A Friends reunion special is streaming on HBO Max. Since 1994, this TV sitcom has been popular thanks to its cast, screenwriting, and theme song: "I'll Be There For You". I discuss all 3 elements in this episode, and how "I'll Be There For You" was released as a successful extended single. Theme Song: "Dance Track", composed by Jessica Ann CatenaSongs mentioned that influenced writing "I'll Be There For You": https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2D8iFdSHES7lfqHFixoFtK?si=23b03924990d43b7"I'll Be There For You" - The Rembrandts (1994-1996)"Shiny Happy People" (1991), "It's The End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" (1987) - R.E.M."I Feel Fine" - The Beatles (1964)"Pleasant Valley Sunday" - The Monkees (1967)"Take The Money and Run" - Steve Miller Band (1976)

Steve Cooper talks with musician Phil Solem. Phil is best known as one half of The Rembrandts. In 1990, Phil and Danny Wilde got together to record some demos in Danny's Southern California garage/studio. The demo was released 'as is', as The Rembrandts. The album landed in the Billboard hot 100, thanks in part to the Top 20 hit Just The Way It Is, Baby. The follow up single Someone, with Phil on lead vocals, also ended up on the Billboard Top 100. In 1992, The Rembrandts received more critical acclaim for their follow up album, Untitled. In 1995, The Rembrandts became most famous for a song that was never intended to be on an album. Although the duo had recorded the 42 second theme I'll Be There For You for the show Friends, it was never intended to be a full length song. But the label insisted the duo record a full length version and include it at the end of the already finished album, LP.

IBTFY is back and this week's guest lights up our world like nobody else. Chicago comedian, storyteller and occasional clown Hannah Bollman discusses how a certain British boy band helped her get through some turbulent years. Also, why certain angsty nü-metal bands from our youth still hold up. Topics include: The rise of One Direction, Directioners vs. Directionators, the other Top 3 from that season of X-Factor, mental health coochie cutters, the Larry conspiracy, Nickelback and Papa Roach apologia and more. She also performs as one half of the alt comedy duo “Little Psychos.” You can find her at @hannahbomana on Twitter or @hannahbeabomana on Instagram.
