Gaby Iori returns as we revisit Leslye Headland's delightful comedy that has only grown stronger since its release within the extinction of romantic comedies. We get to talk about if this qualifies as the modern When Harry Met Sally, the whiteness of the romance genre, and how Alison Brie and Jason Sudeikis broke away from TV

Who is absolutely loving HULU's Only Murders in the Building? I am! On this episode of Dear Multi-Hyphenate, we have the loveable Michael Cyril Creighton who plays Howard Morris on Only Murders in the Building on HULU. We discuss how Michael was compelled to create his own work and how it created a domino effect of constant work in the industry. It's all about writing what you know, and Michael certainly proves that theory. How did he end up from working the box office to working on some of the most successful tv shows and films of all time? TELEVISION: Hulu's “Only Murders in the Building” (Series Regular), Amazon's “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (recurring) Showtime's “Dexter: New Blood” (recurring), Netflix's “Dash & Lily” (recurring), HBO's "High Maintenance" (recurring), EPIX's "Graves" (recurring), Amazon's “A League of Their Own”, Netflix's “AJ & the Queen”, FOX's "Bob's Burgers," Showtime's "Billions," "Horace and Pete," FOX's “Bob's Burgers,” CBS's "The Good Fight," Adult Swim's "Neon Joe Werewolf Hunter," Showtime's "Nurse Jackie," Netflix's “Orange is the New Black,” NBC's “30 Rock,” FX's “Louie,” CBS's "2 Broke Girls," CBS's “Person of Interest," FX's "Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll," LOGO's “Jeffery & Cole Casserole.” FILM: Cord Jeffereson's “American Fiction,” Steven Spielberg's "The Post," "Game Night," "Spotlight," "Can You Ever Forgive Me?," “Seneca,” "Home Again," "Coin Heist," "Sleeping With Other People," "Fits and Starts," "3rd Street Blackout," “Towheads,” “How To Follow Strangers,” “Paper Spiders” and “The Outside Story.” THEATRE: Jordan Harrison's The Amateurs (Vineyard Theatre), Sarah Ruhl's Stage Kiss (Playwrights Horizons), Blood Play, Buddy Cop 2, You're Welcome and Cape Disappointment (all with The Debate Society), Joshua Conkel's MilkMilkLemonade and more. I was a founding member of the New York Neo-Futurists and performed weekly in “Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind.” WEB: Michael created a web series called “Jack in a Box,” which he starred in, produced, wrote and co-directed. The series ran from 2009-2012 and consisted of 31 episodes, dozens of cupcakes and a fair amount of funny-sad humor. It was written about in several publications and on several websites, including The New York Times, The Huffington Post, Time Out New York, Le Monde Paris, The New York Daily News, The AV Club and Michael was named a “Digital All Star” by Backstage. The series won Best Web Pilot at the 2010 New York Television Festival and was nominated for a Writers Guild of America Award for Outstanding Achievement in Original New Media two consecutive years in a row (2012 & won in 2013). This week we are once again fumbling our way to the end of a mystery as we're joined by our noir-comedy correspondent, as the great "Wild Eyes" Travis Woloshyn (Boom Pro Wrestling, Percy Jackson & The Olympians) returns to the program to talk a movie that is thematically linked to the last movie he was here to discuss. It's 2014's Inherent Vice, written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson from the novel by Thomas Pynchon, and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Katherine Waterston, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio Del Toro, Jena Malone, Hong Chau, Martin Short and Joanna Newsom. If it's not Anderson's funniest film it's certainly right up there, with two heavyweight comedy performances from Phoenix and Brolin, who are just as adept at character comedy as they are at broad slapstick. If you'd like to watch the movie before listening to our conversation, you may be out of luck! Inherent Vice is not currently streaming in Canada at the time of publication. You may however be able to find it in stock at your local library. Other works discussed on this episode include The Long Goodbye, Trap, The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, Wrath of Man, The Usual Suspects, Fight Club, Don't Breathe, Gremlins, Batman ('89), Jurassic Park, Melvin and Howard, Aquaman & The Lost Kingdom, Twister, Twisters, Riverdale, The Big Lebowski, Mandy, Her, C'mon C'mon, You Were Never Really Here, Joker, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Sleeping With Other People, Alien: Covenant, Tenet, The Candidate, A Talking Cat?!, and other entries in the PTA ouevre like Phantom Thread, Punch-Drunk Love, Licorice Pizza, Magnolia, and Hard Eight. We'll be back next week to close out P.T.August with our monthly canon selection, as 1998's Boogie Nights is up for consideration this time. You can find that movie streaming in Canada on Crave, Starz and Hollywood Suite, so good luck to ya. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!
The Third Part in our Sex Pact Trilogy The only climax one could expect from our trilogy on a sex pact among friends would have to involve two former sitcom stars in Alison Brie and Jason Sudeikis who are... SLEEPING WITH OTHER PEOPLE. But mainly we want them to sleep with each other (if not us, of course) in this lovely romcom from Leslye Headland. One host falls for the first time while the other perhaps has aged into a world where he can accept a platonic relationship with Ms. Brie and/or Mr. Sudeikis. But mainly Alison Brie. And then Amanda Peet enters the picture! Catchup on last year's Movie Book Club from Quentin Tarantino's CINEMA SPECULATION! This week we're wrapping up February Is For Lovers with another potential entry to the podcast canon, as we dip our toes into rom-com waters for the first time this month with a movie that very much aspires to be a modern take on classic Nora Ephron material: it's 2015's Sleeping With Other People, written and directed by Leslye Headland, and starring Alison Brie, Jason Sudeikis, Adam Scott, Amanda Peet, Jason Mantzoukas, Andrea Savage, Natasha Lyonne, Katherine Waterston, and Adam Brody. Does it succeed in its ambition to sit alongside When Harry Met Sally... in the ADHD-DVD pod pantheon? Plus: We continue to fixate on cults and dad fashion, while J Mo is back from the drive-in having seen Madame Web and Anyone But You, so you know we've devoted a huge chunk of the episode to the Adam Scott movie currently in theatres. After all... her web connects them all. If you'd like to watch the movie before listening along to our discussion, it is currently streaming in Canada on Amazon Prime and is also available for free on Tubi and Plex (at the time of publication). If you'd like to see Madame Web, you can sit alone in an empty theatre anywhere in the world. Other works discussed in this episode include When Harry Met Sally…, 10 Things I Hate About You, Morbius, The Terminator, Defending Your Life, Defending My Life, I Want You Back, Out of Sight, Ocean's Eleven, Jennifer Lopez: This Is Me... Now, Drive, Justified, Jackie Brown, The Vow, The Thing, The Birdcage, Rocko's Modern Life, Drinking Buddies, Kid Detective, Long Shot, Palm Springs, Trainwreck, Fire Island, Star Wars: The Acolyte, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Dune: Parts I & II. We'll be back next week to kick off our first free-form themeless month in what feels like quite a long time, as we rapidly approach the show's one-year anniversary and celebrate with a long-time fave of Hayley's and a recently thrifted pick-up Justin has never seen: the 2001 medieval action romance / anachronistic pseudo-musical A Knight's Tale, which is currently streaming in Canada on Netflix. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!
A romantic comedy that all of BVK can enjoy?!? Sounds too good to be true, but since it's heavy on the sexy side of romance, there's a chance! You'll have to listen this week to find out how BVK and pals feel about the 2015 sex-com, SLEEPING WITH OTHER PEOPLE. BVK IPA 3: DRAFT DAY IS AVAILABLE AT LAST CALL BREWING IN OAKDALE, CA! BVK IS PART OF THE DELUXE EDITION NETWORK AS WELL AS THEIR PODCAST OF THE YEAR!
This week, it's trouble in paradise as we conclude the Before trilogy and keep it on brand with a big blow-up argument. Yes, February Is For Lovers continues with 2013's Before Midnight, once again directed by Richard Linklater, starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, and written by all three. This final chapter keeps you guessing throughout on exactly what kind of movie it's going to be, and is of course lifted once more by two outstanding lead performances. It even earned Oscar gold for Linklater, Hawke and Delpy, who took home the Best Adapted Screenplay award in 2014. If you'd like to watch the film before listening along to our discussion, it is currently streaming in Canada on Amazon Prime, Tubi and the CTV app at the time of publication. Other works discussed in this episode include Fantastic 4, Dune: Part One, Anyone But You, Reality, Madame Web, Torque, Morbius, Kraven The Hunter, Venom, You Hurt My Feelings, The Last Duel, Nuff Said, Blow Out, and LOST. We'll be back next week to wrap up February Is For Lovers with our next canon consideration, a modern rom-com favourite that puts a new twist on the old When Harry Met Sally... formula: 2015's Sleeping With Other People, written and directed by Leslye Headland. It is currently streaming in Canada on Amazon Prime, Tubi and Plex. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!
This week, we're closing out an unsuccessful hunt with a movie about a man with no name, no identity, no family, and no reason to really be too interested in him as the main character of a film. Yes, it's 1997's The Saint, directed once again by Phillip Noyce, and starring Val Kilmer, Elisabeth Shue, Rade Serbedzija, Henry Goodman, Alun Armstrong, Valeri Nikolaev, Charlotte Cornwell and Emily Mortimer. It's a movie that pairs up a man with no inner life and a woman with no self-esteem as our action-thriller romantic leads, and despite everything working against them in this script, Kilmer and Shue still manage to be quite charming. It's a merciful end to Come On Feel The Noyce, as we're finally done with Phil's films, going out on a movie that could very well make podcast history as the first film to be denied entry in its bid to join the ADHD-DVD canonical classics. Plus: we go deep on the annoying discourse that dominated the week, as Barbie is slighted by the Oscars by only being nominated for 8 including Best Picture, while Tenet finally gets granted a theatrical re-release, and previous pod fodder The Accountant has an unlikely sequel on the way. Other works discussed in this episode include I.S.S., Paul Thomas Anderson's filmography (particularly Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Licorice Pizza), and all the movies Oscar actually snubbed, like Past Lives, The Holdovers, Asteroid City, May-December, and The Iron Claw. Oh, and Men. Alex Garland's MEN. Coming up next month on the show, February Is For Lovers, and we will be treating it as such, as the four Fridays in Feb will see us cover Richard Linklater's Before Sunrise, Before Sunset and Before Midnight, before a month full of romance ends with canon consideration of Leslye Headland's modern rom-com classic Sleeping With Other People. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!! #HillaryBarbie

This week we're having what she's having, as we wrap up the month with another entry into the ADHD-DVD canon. Hayley's got the keys to the vault this month and is using the first Fun Friday of the fall to induct an autumnal classic, the rom-com that paved the path for all others after it, 1989's When Harry Met Sally..., directed by Rob Reiner, written by Nora Ephron, and starring Billy Crystal, Meg Ryan, Carrie Fisher and Bruno Kirby. In addition to dissecting the film, we also talk about its slew of imitators and pick out a few more modern examples that we feel are worthy heirs to the throne. Other movies discussed in this episode include No One Will Save You, Sanctuary, First Blood, How To Deal, Batman Returns, Set It Up, Sleeping With Other People, Drinking Buddies, Pride & Prejudice, What If / The F Word, and a late last-minute shoutout for Night of the Hunter. We're hyperfixated this week on F-Zero 99, LOST, cross-stitching, and thrifting white whales. Plus J Mo cuts a deal with The Entity from Dead Reckoning. We'll be back next week to kick off Martin Scorsese Month with Mean Streets, which is currently available on Starz if you'd like to watch it ahead of the episode.

Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie star in this 2015 indie romcom that you know, doesn't have THAT many other people if you really think about it. Next Week: THE APARTMENT
Marni, Chris, and Dr. Emily discuss the four-hour, two-part drama that was this past week's The Bachelor. Clayton wants all the cake and Susie says he can't have his cake and eat it too. Finding common ground about whether Clayton was being a jerk or was justified in his actions is a slippery slope as you will hear in this in-depth Bachelor breakdown. Key takeaways from this episode: Defining gaslighting Setting clear expectations and boundaries Dating with dignity Taking responsibility for your actions Sex & Love [1:31] First, Hey Internet — Gaslighting is not what you think it is! Dr. Emily defines gaslighting as intentionally lying to make someone feel like they are crazy. Clayton was not gaslighting when he reacted to Susie's confrontation, he may have been withholding information but that is not gaslighting. Backstory if you missed the episode, Clayton tells two women he loves them. He also had physical relations with Rachel and Gabby. Susie confronts him saying that if he is having sex with other people then she's out. She obviously doesn't think he shares her values around sex and love. In her mind, why would Clayton have sex with other women if he is in love with her. Chris says Susie was totally justified in what she said. She was direct and that is the communication style men understand. Marni disagrees saying that if you are dating someone IRL you would never know if they were sleeping with other people unless you ask. Dr. Emily says when Clayton said ‘I love you' he made everything more complicated. The women assume those three words mean commitment which is perfectly OK. But, until you have the conversation, you should not assume anything. Marni, Dr. Emily & Chris do not come to a consensus about how much of a red flag Clayton's actions were. He was rude and hurtful on purpose and that means somewhere down deep his little who felt rejected. If you are dating someone and have values around sex it is important to communicate what your expectations are about having sex, being exclusive, being direct about feelings. If He Only Had a Heart [19:41] Clayton has done little to generate audience support. When he speaks it is without feeling. His actions look generated. It could be because his self-worth is low or that the show's producers gave him a Bachelor playbook. He is inauthentic. To his credit, they are trying to date and find love in fabricated environments with scripts written by strangers. Susie speaks her truth and sets a firm boundary. Clayton doesn't want the relationship to be over but that is not Susie's fault. She could have said something sooner but she doesn't owe him anything. When you set boundaries people may not like it but your boundaries are for you, not them. Will Susie be the next Bachelorette? Sleeping with Other People: This weeks guest Sara Taylor introduces Jill Collister to Sleeping with Other People. This 2015 romantic comedy was written and directed by Leslye Headland. After a one-night stand in college, New Yorkers Lainey (Alison Brie) and Jake (Jason Sudeikis) meet by chance 12 years later and discover they each have the same problem: because of their monogamy-challenged ways, neither can maintain a relationship. Determined to stay friends despite their mutual attraction, they make a pact to keep it platonic, a deal that proves easier said than done.
The group share stories of stolen cars, crack head billionaires, and vacation injuries, then play a fun game of "Turn on or Turn off" where things get weird. How often do we wash our pants? And is a man who allows his girlfriend to sleep with other people considered a cu*k or is it just a relationship/lifestyle?

Your host Manish (@TheManish89) returns with the podcast that is all about falling in love on the big screen! On this episode, he discusses Leslye Headland’s Sleeping with Other People with guest Joel Arnold @joelkarnold. A different take on the standard rom-com story, with a memorable cast, they talk about sleeping with other people and Sleeping with Other People.
At the height of Dakota Fanning's child-stardom and Brittany Murphy's rom-com phase came Uptown Girls, a movie that combined the two elements and had a newly broke socialite take on a nanny job for a child who behaves more grown up than she does. Georgia Shenk comes on to defend it and also repeatedly plugs the movie Sleeping With Other People for some reason! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Adam (@wasteofmind) and KC Canton (@kccanton) discuss unsettling vacations as we review IFC Film's 'The Rental.' The film marks the directorial debut of Dave Franco and boast a great cast. The film stars Alison Brie (“GLOW,” Sleeping With Other People), Dan Stevens (“Downton Abbey,” Beauty and the Beast), Jeremy Allen White (“Shameless”, Movie 43) and Sheila Vand (“Snowpiercer,” A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night). The cast alone made me excited to check out the film and it did not disappoint. Before we get into the review we share a couple of unfortunate vacations of our own and explore the curiosities of The Clown Motel. Kelsey and Haley share their thoughts on the 2015 romance-comedy ‘Sleeping With Other People.’ This week’s conversation gets explicit quickly as they debate having sex with an OBGYN, men and women being close friends, and what they would do if female masturbation was mansplained to them, like it is in this movie.
Hello, friends! GASP! I forgot to record a podcast. I mean... I remembered, but I didn't remember in time for my usual midnight upload time. Oh well. You probably don't care. HEY! I would love to hear your personal mental health success stories big and small. Please send them over to me in the next couple weeks for episode 50! Here are this week's questions: How can I "get over" a sexual assault that happened a couple months ago? Why do I have a hard time sleeping with other people in the room? What is it like having a spouse with a mental illness? As always you can send me your questions (and success stories) to duffthepsych@gmail.com or on twitter at http://twitter.com/duffthepsych

Director Leslye Headland and actors Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie discuss their comedy, Sleeping With Other People, and take questions.
If you're reeling from an explosive summer, you're in luck. There are currently two movies in theaters (and in the VOD-o-sphere as well as iTunes) that are both hilarious and treat relationships with a complexity and realism that you might be missing. The first is Sleeping With Other People, a romantic comedy where Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie use a safe word for when they're feeling sexual tension. We'll talk with writer/director Leslye Headland about finding honesty with a high concept. The second is People Places Things, the story of a graphic novelist/teacher (played brilliantly by Jemaine Clement) who is going through divorce, trying to be a good father and trying to contemplate defining his life now that half of it is over. We'll also speak with its writer/director, James C. Strause. Plus, Geoff and I will answer some of your screenwriting questions, and, since I'm moving across the planet over the next two months, we'll briefly consider the role packing up everything plays in a handful of films.
