Verder vaste prik in G&G: Historische Erfgoed! Even luisteren.

The NTSB held a press conference to provide preliminary findings from the flight data recorder (FDR) and cockpit voice recorder (CVR) related to the January 29 midair collision near Reagan National Airport between a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter and a PSA Airlines CRJ regional jet. The Black Hawk was conducting a checkride with night vision goggles and was following FAA-designated helicopter routes. The CRJ was cleared for a visual approach to Runway 33. The investigation revealed discrepancies in altitude readings from the Black Hawk's instruments, raising concerns about possible erroneous altimeter data. At 8:47:40 PM, the CRJ received an automated traffic advisory, and the tower instructed the Black Hawk to pass behind the CRJ. However, due to a transmission overlap, the Black Hawk may not have received the full instruction. Seconds later, the aircraft collided at approximately 313 feet altitude. The NTSB is conducting a visibility study, examining night vision goggle effects, air traffic control communications, and ADS-B transmission issues. The agency commended the FAA's temporary helicopter flight restrictions but has not determined if permanent changes are necessary. The full investigation is ongoing, with additional findings expected in the final report. If you're getting value from this show, please support the show via PayPal, Venmo, Zelle or Patreon. Military Black Hawk Was Above Max Altitude in Reagan Airport Disaster

(AURN News) — In a significant development concerning last month's devastating aviation disaster, federal investigators revealed this week that a military helicopter was operating well above the maximum altitude recommended when it collided with a commercial airliner landing at Reagan Washington National Airport, resulting in 67 people losing their lives. According to National Transportation Safety Board officials, preliminary air traffic control data from DCA indicates the U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter was flying at an altitude of 300 feet when it struck American Airlines Flight 5342 on January 30. This height was substantially above the maximum permitted altitude of 200 feet established for helicopters operating in that airspace. The catastrophic collision occurred between the American Airlines passenger jet which had departed from Wichita, Kansas, and the military helicopter conducting routine training exercises from Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The crash claimed the lives of all 64 individuals aboard the commercial aircraft, including 60 passengers and four crew members, along with three U.S. Army personnel in the helicopter. As part of their ongoing investigation, NTSB teams have been systematically recovering wreckage from the accident site. Key components of the CRJ 700 commercial jet, including its right wing and substantial portions of the cockpit, have already been retrieved. Investigators are also focused on recovering the Black Hawk helicopter's wreckage from the Potomac River, which they expect to accomplish this week.  The investigation continues as families and communities across the country mourn what stands as one of the deadliest aviation accidents in recent U.S. history. The Secret Teachings

Many things come in threes, from the concept of body-mind-spirit to birth-life-death, and thus the various trinities found around the world from the dominant Christian conception to the Indian Trimurti. There is a universality to this truth, which can be found in everything from mass shootings to plane crashes. The spiritual side of these things is the human side, too, because when horrible things happen we see ourselves and loved ones in the dead; we pray, donate, hold candles, and think about life and death. The long-standing conspiratorial element to this fact has also just been reinforced by former FBI agent Jonathan Gilliam, who was on Fox News over the weekend to say that the recent plane-helicopter crashes “will often happen in threes or more,” and so we should expect to possibly see another one in the coming weeks. This belief that things happen in threes is rooted in psychological patterns, pop culture, and cultural superstitions, where people perceive a connection between events due to our tendency to recognize these patterns. This idea is reinforced by the significance of the number three in various aspects of life, such as religion and folklore, which adds to its mystery. Despite plane crashes becoming less common, the more attention we place on them the more even minor incidents, like a small plane in Palo Alto running off the runway over the weekend, become proof of the triplicity mystique. If another larger incident occurs, the Palo Alto story may be forgotten. The pattern in societal and psychological terms comes in threes before the cycle restarts: shock, curiosity, and digging for answers that never come (outside personal bias) leads to disinterest from short attention spans so that we forget, or think we have all the answers, and so move on to the next shocking episode be it a storm, assassination, shooting, or plane crash. When analyzing these types of stories, context matters too, along with numbers and names which become like reading the green code of the Matrix. This was certainly the case with #286 and Luigi Mangione. The American Airlines flight 5342, which took off from Kansas's Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport for DC's Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport was carrying 64 people, while the UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter, from the 12th Air Battalion, that slammed into its side was carrying 3 - (67 overall = 13). ATC attempted to contact the helicopter prior to collision, but after a short response and silence, “13 seconds later” disaster struck. The runway cleared for landing was 33, which was shut down after. The plane type was a CRJ-700.The Learjet 55 that crashed in Philadelphia was carrying 6 crew and a child, for a total of 7 deaths, although other outlets have reported the child's mother died in the crash too. 19 others were injured. Others reported seven died in total, including a person on the ground. The FAA initially reported two people onboard, but corrected the report. The little girl had received medical care at a Shriners Hospital for Children 12 miles from the airport. The plane was headed to Tijuana, after a layover in Missouri at the Springfield-Branson National Airport. It seems slightly more than coincidence that the two major aviation incidents this past week have a connection to Super Bowl 59 next week. The Philadelphia Eagles will play the Kansas City Chiefs, who are actually located in Kansas City Missouri, a city split between two states. Some of the skaters onboard the AA flight were from Missoula, Montana. One of the major game storylines of the big game is that Patrick Mahomes has passed Joe Montana for second most playoff wins behind Tom Brady at 35 with his 7 Super Bowls. As already discussed on a previous show: “If we can pull a mythological narrative together… it could be between the Secret Chiefs, i.e., Deep State, and the symbolic bird of America, i.e., the eagle. The big game is being played at Caesars super dome, named after the entertainment casino company that uses a golden caesar for their logo. As this relates to politics we find Trump pushing the golden age of America narrative just weeks before the game, and we find the orange-yellow man fulfilling the promise of restoring order and even expanding America's territories, pricelessly what the first Augustus promised Rome. And funny enough, this Roman period was called Pax Romana, the golden age.” It is also odd that around Super Bowl time these types of aviation incidents, and some would argue sacrifices, are common in recent years. In January 2024, a Boeing 737-9 MAX made an emergency landing after the door plug blew out mid-flight, causing a cascade of criticism and public awareness. Just after the game there was a massacre at the winning celebration. As reported on a previous show: “NBC News reported at 9:44am Thursday 15th, 2024, 23 were injured and 2 were taken into custody = 25. At 10:17am Yahoo reported 22 injured and 3 taken into custody = 25. The numbers 25-22 was the final score of the game. The 3 arrested were out of a group of 10 questioned = 13, and 10-3 was the Halftime score of the Super Bowl.”During the week of the big game in 2023 a series of UFOs were tracked, shot down, and reported on in a national hysteria. Going back to 2020, January 26, the Sikorsky S-76B helicopter carrying Kobe Bryant and his 13-year old daughter crashed, killing 9 in total. It's odd enough Kobe was previously in a commercial for Nike where there was a helicopter crash via a bomb, or that Legends of Chamberlain Heights seemingly predicted the same incident just a few years before, but consider the following: the Sikorsky S-76B (SB 7+6=13) that killed Kobe was also meant to transport VIPs like himself, in likeness to the Black Hawk in Washington which was designed to carry VIPs. Both incidents occurred just prior to the Super Bowl. Sikorsky is also the same company that has MATRIX(tm) autonomy systems for Black Hawk helicopters, something DARPA was planning to test in 2025. In other words, remote controlled systems, which, coupled with the lack of response from the helicopter to ATC, formulates a conspiracy that either the technology failed or it has been used to create an incident and sacrifice the pilots in the process; the helicopter was officially on a “proficiency training flight.” Considering the recent drone hysteria, too, it is likely these objects were authorized by the FAA as an experiment to test AI-autonomy and situational awareness as part of a project called Convergence. On the other hand, viral conspiracy suggests there was no plane in Philadelphia because there was limited to no debris, essentially meaning it was a missile instead. The plane, however, was tipped at 45 degrees traveling at over 460mph and depending at 5-10 thousand feet per 60 seconds. For a small plane, with explosive medical equipment, it makes sense the entire thing was incinerated, or that the limited debris was exploded outward, not inward, far away from the crater. “I think the most important bit of evidence that we've seen so far is the doorbell video showing the aircraft descending at an incredible angle,” Arthur Wolk, an aviation expert, told NBC10. “Almost 45 degrees, which means that the airplane was out of control. No pilot would voluntarily descend any airplane at that angle. That probably resulted in the airplane striking the ground at over 400 knots and probably 5 or even 10,000 feet a minute going down that fast. So, something overtook this flight crew.”-FREE ARCHIVE (w. ads)SUBSCRIPTION ARCHIVEX / TWITTER FACEBOOKWEBSITEPAYPALCashApp: $rdgable EMAIL: rdgable@yahoo.com / TSTRadio@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/tst-radio--5328407/support.

It's Thursday, January 30th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Adam McManus Pastor in India and wife face five years in prison for evangelizing Last Wednesday, officials in India convicted a Christian couple for evangelizing the Dalit community. Members of the community are known as the “untouchables,” representing the lowest stratum of the country's caste system. Officials charged Pastor Jose Pappachan and his wife, Sheeja, with violating the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act. They now face five years in prison and the equivalent of hundreds of dollars in fines.  International Christian Concern notes, “Dalits are socially, economically, and historically marginalized communities predominantly in India. Traditionally, the Dalits have easily embraced Christianity to escape the repressive caste system.” Chilean lawmakers commit to oppose abortion Last Tuesday, lawmakers in Chile signed a Commitment for Life document, reports Evangelical Focus.  Members of several different parties signed the document in response to the government considering a law to legalize abortion. Parliamentarian Mauro González said, “We are a large majority that defends life, and we will continue to advocate for the ethical, moral and Christian principles that are part of our essence and culture.” Blackhawk helicopter collides with American Airlines jet over Potomac River In the United States, on Wednesday evening around 9:00pm ET, an American Airlines Eagle passenger jet, and an Army Blackhawk helicopter collided and crashed into the Potomac River near Reagan National Airport, reports NBC News.  Flight 5342 from Wichita, Kansas had 64 people aboard and the helicopter carried three soldiers. One eyewitness made reference to the American Airlines flight, calling it a CRJ, which means Canadian Regional Jet. Listen. EYEWITNESS: “The accident happened in the river. Both the helicopter and the plane crashed in the river east of the end of runway 33. It was probably out in the middle of the river. I just saw a fireball, and then it was just gone. So, I haven't seen anything since they hit the river. But it was a CRJ [Canadian Regional Jet] and a helicopter that hit, I would say, maybe a half mile off the approach end of [runway] 33.” At least four people have been recovered and were rushed to hospitals. A frantic search to find crash victims in the river was underway within minutes. Last night, the temperature of the Potomac River was 35 degrees Fahrenheit. At 35 degrees, the human body core temperature quickly drops and exhaustion, hypothermia, and unconsciousness can occur in as little as 15 to 30 minutes. At 9:15pm, Reagan Airport announced, “All takeoffs and landings have been halted.” Trump ensures gov't won't fund transgender surgeries for kids In the United States, President Donald Trump issued an executive order on Tuesday entitled, “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation.”  The order keeps the federal government from funding transgender drugs and surgeries for people under the age of 19.  The order states, “Across the country today, medical professionals are maiming and sterilizing a growing number of impressionable children under the radical and false claim that adults can change a child's sex through a series of irreversible medical interventions. This dangerous trend will be a stain on our Nation's history, and it must end.” In Mark 10:6, Jesus said, “But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.'" Trump confronts Bank of America CEO over debanking conservatives President Trump addressed the World Economic Forum being held in Davos, Switzerland last week. And he didn't pull any punches. Trump made comments via remote video from Washington, D.C. In one comment, he rebuked major financial institutions for “debanking” conservatives and faith groups. Trump specifically called out Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan and JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon. TRUMP: “I hope you start opening your bank to conservatives because many conservatives complain that the banks are not allowing them to do business within the bank, and that included a place called Bank of America. They don't take conservative business. I don't know if the regulators mandated that because of Biden or what. But you and Jamie and everybody, I hope you're going to open your banks to conservatives, because what you're doing is wrong.” After several awkward seconds, Brian Moynihan, the CEO of Bank of America, offered the king of all non sequiturs, failing to address Trump's direct concern at all. MOYNIHAN: “Mr. President, I'll say that your friend Gianni [Infantino] said hello, told me to tell you hello, and we look forward to sponsoring the World Cup when it comes both this summer for the club and next year. So, thank you for getting that for the United States.” A prominent example of such “debanking” was Chase Bank's decision to close the account of The National Committee for Religious Freedom in 2022. Trump looks to cut $100 billion through federal workforce The Trump administration is offering buyouts to federal workers to shrink the size of the government. Ahead of planned downsizing, the administration is offering federal employees to voluntarily resign by February 6. They would still receive pay through September. The administration expects 5-10% of the federal workforce to quit. This would save around $100 billion.  American kids less competent in reading The National Center for Education Statistics released their latest report card for the U.S. American kids are still growing less competent in their reading skills and have made little progress in math. This continues the decline of academic results since school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic.  The report also highlights a growing divide between higher- and lower-performing students with the gap being wider than ever. Nondenominational churches increasing and growing And finally, most U.S. denominations are experiencing decline, but nondenominational Protestant churches are on the rise. Nearly 35% of American Protestants identified as nondenominational in 2022, up from less than 3% in the early 1970s. Also, the number of nondenominational churches increased by nearly 9,000 over the last decade. This growth comes despite the number of practicing Christians being on the decline in the U.S. Professor Ed Stetzer, the former head of Lifeway Research group told The Washington Times, “The percentage of practicing Christians is declining, but those who remain tend to create a more serious expression of their faith. . . . Millennials and Gen Z Christians, in particular, are showing signs of greater commitment, even as they navigate a cultural landscape where being religious sometimes comes with a price.” In Matthew 16:24, Jesus said, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, January 30th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Subscribe by Amazon Music or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.

An aviator's journey from a former commercial airline transport pilot, flight instructor, flight examiner, and author. In the news, the SpaceX Starship first-stage booster returns to the launch pad, the NTSB reports on two B737s that were cleared for the same runway at the same time and the incident where an A350 clipped the tail of a CRJ-900. Also, navigating airline dress codes, an airport executive director resigns, and an air museum plans to expand. Guest Lola Reid Allin is the author of Highway to the Sky: An Aviator's Journey. She's a former commercial airline transport pilot, flight instructor, flight examiner, and SCUBA divemaster. Lola's work has appeared in national newspapers and publications, and in juried national and international shows. Her professional aviation affiliations include Women in Aviation International, The 99s: International Organization of Women Pilots, and the Northern Lights Aero Foundation. In her book, and with us, Lola shares personal aspects of her flying experiences and aviation career. She describes things she has learned from her student pilots, her relationships with others, the Cessna 150 she owned, and some particularly interesting flights she has piloted. Lola's story is about how learning to fly gave her wisdom and taught her to live her life. She had to defy the societal norms of the era, such as the notion that “women belong in the kitchen and the bedroom” and "they shouldn't take jobs from men who need to support their families.” An adventurer who lived with the Maya in Mexico and Belize for three years, Lola has explored more than sixty-five countries in depth. When she isn't backpacking Baffin Island, trekking the Andes or the Himalayas, forging deep into the Guatemalan jungle, summiting Kilimanjaro, or guiding a dogsled team in the Yukon, she lives with her husband of twenty-six years in a small community east of Toronto, Canada. She is a professional speaker and co-lead of the First Canadian 99s Education & Outreach Committee and for the Northern Lights Aero Foundation. Find Lola on her website, X, and Facebook. Aviation News Two planes cleared to use same runway in Nashville near-collision, NTSB says In September, Alaska Airlines Flight 369, a Boeing 737 MAX 9, was cleared for takeoff at Nashville International Airport. At the same time, Southwest Airlines Flight 2029 was cleared to cross the same runway. The Alaska Jet aborted the takeoff, which blew out the plane's tires.  The NTSB said one ground controller cleared the Southwest jet, just 23 seconds before another controller cleared the Alaska plane. Pilot of larger plane was looking away from smaller plane in Atlanta airport mishap, report says A Bombardier CRJ-900 operated by Endeavor Air, a Delta regional subsidiary, was waiting on a taxiway. A taxiing Delta Air Lines Airbus 350 clipped the tail of the CRJ with it's wingtip, knocking the tail off the smaller plane. The NTSB preliminary report finds the CRJ stopped 56 feet (17 meters) short of the hold line painted on the taxiway. As the A350's right wing extends 106 feet (32.3 meters) from the center of the jet to tip, that 56-foot distance may have been the margin between a hit and a miss. Do Airlines Really Have Dress Codes? What to Know Every airline has a contract of carriage and these typically include a cause addressing attire. These leave a lot of discretion to the airline staff and each airline is different: Southwest Airlines: Wearing clothes that are lewd, obscene, or patently offensive. American Airlines: Dress appropriately; bare feet or offensive clothing aren't allowed. Delta Air Lines: When the passenger's conduct, attire, hygiene or odor creates an unreasonable risk of offense or annoyance to other passengers. United Airlines: Passengers who are barefoot, not properly clothed, or whose clothing is lewd, obscene or offensive. Spirit Airlines: Barefoot or inadequately clothed,

Welcome to the daily304 – your window into Wonderful, Almost Heaven, West Virginia.   Today is Tuesday, June 4, 2024. A donation from the Wing 2 Wing Foundation will put musical instruments in all middle schools throughout West Virginia…Longstanding companies in #YesWV evolve with the times to produce innovative products…and ALL ABOARD to the New River Gorge via Amtrak…on today's daily304. #1 – From METRO NEWS – The West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History has accepted a $280,000 contribution from the Wing 2 Wing Foundation in its partnership with the Save The Music Foundation to enhance musical education in West Virginia. Secretary Randall Reid-Smith said the money will give more students an opportunity to learn how to play a musical instrument by providing instruments to every middle school in all 55 counties. The Wing 2 Wing Foundation, founded by Marshall University President Brad Smith and wife Alys Smith, focuses on investments in education, entrepreneurship and the environment. The state has implemented the program in 156 schools with $40,000 worth of free instruments in each school. Read more: https://wvmetronews.com/2024/05/27/brad-smiths-wing-2-wing-foundation-to-help-fund-musical-education-in-west-virginia/   #2 – From WV EXECUTIVE – Many companies in West Virginia have been around for decades and thus have long provided the Mountain State and beyond with essential products and services. Despite their already impressive strategies, there are always opportunities for businesses to excel and innovate.  Warwood Tool, Amsted Graphite Materials, Star Plastics and MHI RJ Aviation Inc. are four examples of innovation taking place in long standing companies, all of which have made great strides by implementing new ideas. Warwood Tool opened as a blacksmith shop in 1854. Now, the Wheeling company continues to manufacture a wide array of industrial grade tools that can be used for any purpose. Amsted Graphite Materials in Anmoore was built by the National Carbon Company in 1904 and has been a notable contributor to the carbon and graphite industries.  Star Plastics, formed from its parent company SDR Plastics in 1988. The Ravenswood recycling company now specializes in custom formulated engineering grade resins and continues turning used plastic into quality products. MHI RJ in Bridgeport has been around for 33 years, the result of a merger between Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and the Canadair Regional Jet Series Program. It is the largest maintenance, repair and overhaul provider for CRJ and has one of the world's largest regional aircraft bases. Read more: https://wvexecutive.com/innovation-in-industry/   #3 – From THE TRAVEL – For those who want to visit the newest national park in the nation, Amtrak would like to help take the burden off of road-tripping to the New River Gorge and trying to find parking by dropping off and picking up passengers at one of three stations located around the park. The Cardinal, which is best known for its Chicago to New York route, makes three stops per week at each of the three stops around the park in Hinton, Thurmond, and Prince. The stops occur on Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday. While The Cardinal picks up and drops off passengers, the train ride also takes passengers through New River Gorge National Park. As a result of the glass-domed passenger car, those riding the train can get unparalleled views riding through the park, the likes of which would not be seen if you drove to the park instead. The conversation covers various topics related to the aviation industry, including the shortage of maintenance technicians, the future of regional aircraft, and the longevity of the CRJ-700. Ross Mitchell, from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Regional Jet (MHIRJ), discusses the challenges of recruiting maintenance technicians and the need to promote the career to younger generations. The conversation highlights the importance of maintaining smaller markets and the impact of aircraft retirements on those communities. We explore the importance of regional aircraft in the aviation industry and the challenges they face. It highlights the misconception that regional aircraft have shorter lifespans compared to larger aircraft and emphasizes their role in connecting passengers to long-haul flights. The discussion also touches on the difficulty of breaking up the narrow-body duopoly and the importance of aftermarket support in the success of new aircraft. The conversation concludes with insights into the business aircraft market and the differences in selling luxury aircraft compared to commercial aircraft.

First up this week is FedEx and UPS, who both seem to have too many pilots.  FedEx and UPS have advised pilots to take severance offers and move to American Airlines subsidiary PSA.  PSA is offering existing FedEx and USP pilots a $250,000 bonus and a left seat job in Embraer and CRJ regional jets.  While $250,000 sounds like a ton of money, it's less than a year's pay for senior captains at UPS and FedEx. FedEx went as far as saying they don't have enough business to keep all their pilots fully employed.  Fedex VP of flight operations said  “While I understand this is not something that will appeal to every pilot, for those of you who are frustrated with current flight hours, career progression, or have just been on the fence about available options, you may consider this unique opportunity enough of an incentive to make a move,” Some speculations say FedEx may have 700 extra pilots or more as shipping volumes have turned down.  We'll keep you updated if we see anything else about this!  Next up this week is a man in Omaha who pointed a green laser at a helicopter.  34 Year Old Richard Detty was on a smoke break when he shined the laser at buildings to see how far it would go before turning the laser on a helicopter. The helicopter turned out to be a police helicopter who found the location of the laser using a camera array. Getty was arrested and pled guilty stating “I was not aware it was a crime,” and “I regret my actions.”. Getty was sentenced to 15 months in prison and two years of supervised release. Don't point lasers at aircraft.  The third story this week is a scale B29, which collided with a golf cart injuring a bystander. The incident occurred at Glendale Airport near Kokomo, Indiana.  The replica B29 has a 50 foot wingspan, is 35 feet long, and is driven by four Honda Fit car engines.  The 35% replica of the B29 Superfortress was on landing when it drifted and struck a golf card causing the cart to rollover and knock a women filming the landing unconscious.  The pilot of the scale replica was apparently uninjured. Crazy story!  Last up this week is a lucky pilot in Florida who survived a night time crash in the Everglades. A pilot in a C172 crashed into alligator infested waters around 4AM from an altitude of 2000 feet.  The aircraft, owned by a flight school wasn't reported missing until 10:30 the following morning.  Miami-Dade fire Rescue located the down Skyhawk with the Pilot sitting on the wing of the sunken airplane.  The pilot of the 172 was then winched into the Fire Rescue helicopter with a non-life threatening leg injury.  Another crazy story with a happy outcome! Alright, that's it!  Have a great weekend, and we'll see you next week!  https://www.avweb.com/aviation-news/florida-pilot-survives-crash-landing-and-several-hours-in-the-everglades/ https://nebraskaexaminer.com/briefs/omaha-man-gets-15-months-in-prison-for-aiming-laser-pointer-at-police-helicopter/ https://www.avweb.com/aviation-news/fedex-pilots-advised-to-work-for-regional-airline/ https://www.avweb.com/aviation-news/193-ups-pilots-take-buyouts-regional-offers-soft-landing https://www.avweb.com/aviation-news/woman-hurt-in-collision-with-scaled-piloted-b-29-replica/

On episode 46, Micah and I get back to talking about flying on United as I had a trip to South Bend, Indiana. But first, Micah and I answer listener email... one of the best parts of the show. This time it wasn't just a listener but it was an email from our previous guest, U2 stalker... I mean Super Fan, Chef Kathy. Apparently, she forgot to promote her business, www.kathyiscooking.com, and wanted to thank me for doing a great job in editing the audio.  Micah then goes into a few corrections and talks about his experience with King Pizza in Ramsey, NJ. Apparently, they are not as good as they used to be. Then we talk about the promotion T-Mobil is offering on their Un-Carry On. We then talk about my trip to South Bend, Indiana... technically Goshen, IN, the RV manufacturing capital of the world. I was a contract Booth Babe at a Makers Fair. My buddy Andy makes a cooling system for 3D printers and I helped him at the event. Everything was fine on the United flights. I got to fly on a 757-300, 2 CRJ-200s, and a 737-800. The United crews took great care of me... including the hours delay I endured at Chicago O'Hare airport. The nice part, I was able to check out the new Club lounge during my layover. Thanks once again to all of our listeners and especially our international (Non-US) listeners.  Please write in and let us know how you found the show and why you listen.  We love hearing from you!!! Opening music is provided by the Madalitso Youth Choir as they sing their Welcome Song, recorded at the lobby of The Royal Livingston Hotel in Zambia. We hope you enjoy the show!

The Emergency Management Network Podcast

A Mother's Day MessageHappy Mother's Day to all the mothers in the world. Our team wants you to know that we appreciate you. So when I was looking for a topic for this week, I felt that it was essential to address how disasters worldwide impact women. Asako Okai, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Director of UNDP Crisis Bureau, stated in her piece, "Women are hit hardest in disasters, so why are responses too often gender-blind?" Women and children are 14 times more likely than men to die in a disaster. As noted In the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, 70 percent of the people that died were women. So How Do Disasters Impact Women Differently? New projections of global poverty by UN Women, UNDP, and the Pardee Center for International Futures estimate that, globally, 388 million women and girls will be living in extreme poverty in 2022 (compared to 372 million men and boys). But the outlook could be far worse. In a "high-damage" scenario, this number could balloon to 446 million (427 million for men and boys). This is a fundamental factor leading to higher mortality rates when compared to men during a disaster. Because women are statistically poorer, they have far limited available financial resources, such as resilient housing. Women typically have limited financial safety nets and often less education to seek employment to rectify their collective situations. These social vulnerabilities explode during and after a disaster, ensuring a cycle of poverty that can become generational. Why Water Matters? In last week's Weekly Round-Up, we shared an article from the Crisis Response Journal on Africa's water security. We chose this piece because of its implications on climate migration. However, in many parts of the world, lack of access to clean water and poverty go hand in hand with women facing hazards. The female populations of developing nations are more likely to be responsible for retrieving water for their family. Water scarcity forces women to walk further from the safety of their homes to collect water, making them increasingly susceptible to sexual assault and rape. In Bangladesh, which is considered the epicenter of climate change, the World Health Organization has estimated that in 8 out of 10 homes, women are exposed to the risk of harassment, sexual assault, and rape when collecting water.   Women's Health Care and Disasters One of the significant issues facing women worldwide is they are susceptible to poor health outcomes, violence, and inequalities in all stages of a disaster. In developing countries, women have less access to education, including basic survival skills such as swim safety. The lack of training reduces their ability to flee in rising floodwaters, for example. In these nations, Women traditionally are homebound, caring for their family members. They do not have access to the early warning systems, reducing their disaster preparedness and response times and increasing their chances of death. That is one of the significant factors explaining why 90 percent of the 140,000 people who died during the 1991 Bangladesh cyclone were female. At any disaster, women have a statistically higher instance of forced marriage. They are exposed to sexual violence and can be required to engage in transactional sex for financial coping strategies. For example, after the 2004 tsunami in India, nine out of ten women affected by the disaster had experienced sexual violence within two years of the incident. The impacts of disasters on women are not only in developing nations. After the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes, New Zealand saw a 40% rise in intimate partner violence in rural areas. The Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 proved that the issues facing women have not changed significantly. Although they're no longer blamed for disasters, they're not included in the relief process. During a fact-finding trip to areas affected by the 2011 tsunami, Akiko Domoto, an environmentalist, feminist, and former governor of Tokyo's neighboring Chiba Prefectures, found those "in charge of a shelter in Minamisoma would not let the evacuees put up dividers. This meant there was no place for women to change, for infants to nurse, or for the elderly to change their diapers." In addition to a lack of privacy in shelters, there was also a lack of essential women's goods and an expectation that women would help with reconstruction by spending their days in the shelters cooking.Women-Owned Business and Disasters In the U.S. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) study showed that businesses run by women had been impacted more by disasters. They are more likely to close, experience decreased revenue, and lose customers. NIST surveyed 1,300 businesses. The study showed that women-owned businesses had fewer employees and reported less disaster preparedness than other businesses.  And women-owned businesses are considered less essential to the community's overall economy. This is because most women-owned businesses are in the service industry. Ariela Zycherman (who conducted the study) stated that "research like this demonstrates the ways preexisting social inequities threaten resilience. This information is essential for supporting just climate futures across communities."Critical information might also lie in how businesses think of disaster resilience, what resources they are aware of and how they use them.Moving toward an Antifragile Community As we assess risk to the communities we serve, we must consider the part inequality plays in disaster recovery. A strong community includes personal empowerment of underserved populations, including women-owned businesses.  In our communities, we need to support small businesses in general. However, we need to provide tools and training to help historically underrepresented group-operated (HUGO) businesses thrive before and after a disaster.  References: https://www.undp.org/blog/women-are-hit-hardest-disasters-so-why-are-responses-too-often-gender-blindhttps://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2212096320300279https://nextcity.org/urbanist-news/japans-sexism-in-natural-disastershttps://www.thejournal.ie/women-and-children-more-at-risk-at-times-of-disaster-1124615-Oct2013/https://gh.bmj.com/content/6/4/e004377.abstracthttps://www.nist.gov/news-events/news/2022/02/businesses-run-minorities-women-and-vets-disproportionately-affectedPodcasts The Todd De Voe Show Planning Practitioner ProgramEMI is announcing a new program, the Planning Practitioner Program. In addition, western wildfires have also cost more than $40 billion during the past two years alone. Today, prepare.respond.recover. speaks with StormGeo’s TropicWatch Manager Chris Hebert to discuss how the rising costs of changing weather trends, advances in data-gathering and processing, and access to low Earth orbit (remove comma) have allowed StormGeo to lead the way in keeping critical businesses informed on storms heading their way.If you would like to learn more about the Natural Disaster & Emergency Management (NDEM) Expo please visit us on the web - https://www.ndemevent.comBusiness Continuity TodayDo You Have A Wildfire PlanThe Southwest has moved from fire season to a 365-day threat of wildland fires.
