It's NCAA Tournament time and D-Fly & Dixie are here to get you informed and pumped up for all the games. This week we're joined by Matt Kinnear, the Editor-in-Chief at Inside Lacrosse, to recap the Wednesday Opening Round action and preview all eight First Round games this weekend. It's a fantastic lineup with four games each on Saturday and Sunday. The white smoke you saw was not from the Conclave, but it's the smoke coming out of the overheated PA system at Cornell's Schoellkopf Field as it plays “Freebird” for the 247th time. By Sunday it will be repaired and is ready to blare more Skynyrd. In addition to the games, the guys discuss the Tewaaraton finalists, the new Pope, Capital Area lacrosse, Caleb Fyock, beef jerky, Michigan's cookies and much, much more. Do you have your tickets yet for Gillette Stadium?! This year, Inside Lacrosse is proud to partner with the NCAA to offer you, our loyal listeners, $5 off all single-day ticket options (men and women) by using the code ILPOD at checkout. Is Notre Dame in? Is Army out? What is going on?! With the Fighting Irish's loss to Syracuse and the Black Knights' loss to Colgate in their respective conference semifinals on Friday, the NCAA Tournament bracket forecast was shaken like a snow globe. To help sort it out, IL's Terry Foy brings on Mark Hart, better known as @fieldystick on X and a self-described "aspiring bracketologist" to discuss the data. Other questions they consider: Is Syracuse a lock? Does Maryland have the best résumé ever? Does the No. 2 seed go to the winner of Princeton-Cornell? Kap and Caleb are back with that, plus a ton of big-time results: Salisbury's victory over CNU, Tufts' OT thriller with Wesleyan, and a Roanoke vs. Lynchburg game that immediately was tagged as a classic.  There has been goal controversy with a pair of games involving the Jumbos that the guys touch on, too. Whether it was Rutgers' upset of Maryland, Syracuse's win over Notre Dame in front of a record crowd in the Dome or Penn State's comeback at Michigan, IL's Terry Foy, Larken Kemp and Nick Ossello (who was brave enough to show up for a portion of the episode despite the Irish's loss) unpack Week 9 of the college lacrosse season. As we head into the month of April, Inside Lacrosse has released its first Bracketology presented by Get Reps. Based upon RPI and Strength of Schedule, I wasn't surprised at the top four (Princeton, Maryland, Notre Dame and North Carolina), but it was something to see the nation's No. 1 team, Cornell, as IL's seventh best resume and the current third-ranked team, Ohio State, on the outside of the bubble. But hey, that's why we play the games! This week there are five Top 20 matchups and one delicious Top 10 matchup for your viewing enjoyment. D-Fly & Dixie are here to get you ready. And as teams battle the week-to-week storms of April conference play, don't forget that famous old expression, “April showers bring May prowess.” Ok, maybe I just made that up, but the teams that weather and grow from conference battles always set themselves up best for the postseason.  This year, Inside Lacrosse is proud to partner with the NCAA to offer you, our loyal listeners, $5 off all single-day ticket options (men and women) by using the code ILPOD at checkout. On top of that, they examine whether it was a better for Michigan or a worse loss for Hopkins, then parse through the Ivy League, highlighted by Larken's appearance at the Brown tailgate. This weekend should provide a scintillating slate of action. We'll get to see at long last the much-awaited 2024 debuts for many of our favorite teams. Additionally, last week's surprising results set up critical games for a few teams with high aspirations in 2024. The D-Fly and Dixie Podcast, presented by Simplicity Group, is here to get you ready to enjoy it all. Let's get it! The guys start by commenting on Hopkins bounce back win over Towson, on which Mark teamed with fellow Blue Jay Quint Kessenich on the broadcast. They recap last week's stunners, including Loyola's easy win over Georgetown and the pre-game tailgate delicacies. Dix also gives his remarks on Denver's theft on Homewood, as well as an appreciation for the success of the newly-adopted use of instant replays in college lacrosse. For a deep dive into Name, Image and Likeness this week, D-Fly and Dixie interview Mark Koesterer, the author of NIL for ALL: A 30-Minute Guide to NIL and the founder of The Players NIL. It's a fascinating conversation. They discuss the legislation and timeline that led to today's current NIL landscape, who's benefiting, who's paying, collectives, the lack of governance and guidance, how coaches and administrators are dealing with it and so much more. Bottom line – there is significant opportunity available for college lacrosse players. THIS WEEK's BEST GAMES No. 5 Johns Hopkins (1-1) at No. 12 Georgetown (0-1), noon Loyola (1-0) at No. 6 Maryland (1-0), noon No. 11 Michigan at No. 3 Virginia, noon Villanova at No. 4 Penn State (0-1), noon No. 8 Army vs. UMass, Atlanta, Ga., 12:30 p.m. In a “The Greatest Night in Pop”-inspired Give & Go, the guys draft their choices for the Top 3 musical artists they would call if they were in charge of creating a modern day version of “We are the World.” Dixie's choices are….. It's not gold; it's platinum. I've been blessed with a vote in Inside Lacrosse's D1 Media Poll for the 2023 season and in this episode I want to rip through and talk about my "first team out" as well as my picks for #20 through #18. I won't waste any more of your time and will let you dive right into my first team out... #21 Syracuse: My first team out because they were terrible last season and despite an improved offense in 2023, they still have a ton of question marks on defense. #20 Army: Army lost a ton of offensive firepower with the graduation of Brendan Nichtern (101 points in 2022) but we all know that no teams in NCAA lacrosse epitomize the "next man up" mentality more than the military academies, so I think Army has earned my #20 spot. #19 Richmond: What I like about Richmond is they've proven they can hang year in and year out despite roster turnover. What I don't like about Richmond is some of those roster losses will be tough to overcome without some guys seriously stepping up. #18 Jacksonville: Jacksonville is a tough read because offensively they look like they could actually be better in 2023 than they were in 2022. But they lost some high end long poles to graduation. I still think they'll be able to "outscore" their opponents in 2023 and think they deserve to remain in the top 20 despite losing to Richmond in the SoCon finals in 2022 nixing their chance of an NCAA Tournament bid. *The Full Blog Post* https://www.laxfactor.com/2023/01/laxfactors-college-lacrosse-division-i-pre-season-top-20-17-through-20-laxfactor-podcast-228/ Support the channel, buy some swag... https://www.laxfactor.com/ Watch the show w/ video on YouTube... https://www.youtube.com/laxfactor/ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/laxfactor/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/laxfactor/support
