I’m guessing as someone who listens to a podcast called Motivation For Moms, you want more than just to survive in this life. You want to thrive. You want to feel fulfilled. This show is about all things personal development. It’s about adopting a leadership mindset so that we can show up fully in all of our roles, positively impact the next generation, AND create a life we LOVE, where we feel fulfilled, and many of you know, if you’ve been a listener for a while, that I gave up alcohol, which was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, because, like a lot of moms today, I LOVED my wine. Loved it. But it has been a big part of my personal development journey, and so from time to time on the show, I talk about THAT part of my story, my complicated relationships with alcohol, my struggle giving it up, how it’s changed my life, and sometimes I like to bring in other people who can relate to this part of my journey, who are also sober, who are ALSO working on themselves and changing their life, and so today I have an inspiring interview for you with a fellow mama, someone who I personally relate to so much, Bridget Covill. Bridget is a ALSO sober mamma, she has 4 kids, she is a registered nurse, and a certified health and life coach. She was the mom who looked like she had it all together, but secretly she was just surviving. Getting sober and becoming a coach has taught her how to regain self love and acceptance and really discover who she has always been. She now have the honor of helping moms who feel like they are not enough gain back their self-confidence and find purpose in their busy life. In this inspiring episode we talk about mindset, the different ways in which we ALL buffer from pain and try to numb shame, not just drinking, but maybe it’s smoking, overeating, shopping, scrolling, checking out, the ways in which we try to feel normal and try to take control of the outcomes in our life, we talk about the thoughts, that cause us to have certain feelings, which leads to us doing things to manage those feelings, that result in outcomes we don’t want. We talk about how to change the outcomes in our life by changing our thoughts. Given that it's Valentine’s Day on Sunday, a holiday that celebrates love and relationships, I want to ask you to spend some time on your RELATIONSHIP with YOURSELF this week. Your relationship with yourself is arguably one of the most important. If you want to show up fully in your relationships with your partner and your kids, it’s important that you put your oxygen mask on first as the saying goes, and connect with yourself, and love yourself, and value yourself. I think oftentimes we live our life waiting to get love and respect from someone else, all the while neglecting to give it to ourselves, and so if this is you, if you know that you are lacking in self-love, and self-confidence, and self-care, and self-respect, all the things relating to self-esteem and honoring yourself, then this week, it’s time to make YOU a priority. This is going to be a longer episode, and I ask you to give yourself the time this week to listen to the whole thing, even if you need to listen to it in bits and pieces, but I have a really great conversation for you today, between me and a beautiful mama named Christa Bevan, a self-proclaimed Radical Mother. In this episode I want to talk about your self-talk. The things you say out loud and the things you say to yourself in your head. If you want to reach your goals, if you want to have healthy relationships, if you want to manifest positive things in your life, it starts with changing your self-talk, the internal dialogue you have with yourself, and the things you say out loud about yourself. Your self talk will make or break whether you stay stuck, or whether you grow as a person. Whether you just keep getting by, or whether you make progress on your goals and level up. Look we are leaders in our family and in our circles. Leaders don’t talk badly about themselves, even in seemingly harmless passing conversations. We have a commitment to our children. To teach them how to value themselves. To teach them self-love and self-confidence. To teach them how to create anything they want with their lives. I always say this, if you can’t do it for you, then do it for them. The Mama Miracle is about tapping into that love and devotion we have to our kids and using it as fuel to do whatever it takes to become better people, to live better lives. Who are you? What is your purpose? How do you know if you’re fulfilling your purpose? You’re getting older every day that goes by, are you fulfilling your purpose? Are you living up to your potential? Your kids are getting older every day, are you parenting and raising them up the way you intend to? Woooo that question really gets me. Do these questions give you as much FOMO and anxiety as they used to give me, friend? I mean, you may be thinking, how the heck am I supposed to understand my purpose and all this deep philosophical spiritual stuff, when maybe you’re just trying to survive right now and maybe questions about identity and purpose are the last thing on your mind. Between me and you, I used to feel so anxious about the whole idea of finding my purpose, because I used to think that maybe I had only one purpose for being here, and what if I discovered my purpose too late? What if I never found my purpose? I thought that the only way to be truly fulfilled was to discover and live out my purpose, that I had yet to figure out what my one true purpose was. And then I heard something that totally changed my life, and changed how I view my identity and my purpose for being here. This idea has been totally driving the way I live my life now. I no longer feel anxious about fulfilling my purpose. I no longer have FOMO. And it’s about identity and this is what I’m going to talk to you about today. On this show I talk a lot about how we as moms have more power than we give ourselves credit for, how we have the power to create any positive change in our lives and in our family, and I whole heartedly know to the depths of my heart that this is true. I believe in you, whether or not you fully believe in yourself or the other people around you do, I believe in you, because I know some of the struggles that you face as a mom today and I know that you’ve been through stuff in your life that has made you strong and has taught you lessons. You’re where you are today because of what you’ve been through. I believe you are exactly where you need to be. As a mom especially, you have a fierceness about you that allows you to do anything you set your mind to, and I believe we can harness the devotion and ferocity inside of us to create anything in our lives. When mama decides that things are gonna change, watch out. Think about a time when you had enough of something in your life, and how resolute you felt for things to be different. Maybe since listening to this show, you’ve had those moments of a deep instinctual desire and commitment to change something for the better in your life, maybe it was your habits, maybe it was your relationships at home, maybe it was to take steps towards a personal goal, whatever it was, you can probably remember that moment clearly when you told yourself, “enough is enough,” and if you have had those moments since listening to this show, then this is wonderful and I feel like I’m fulfilling my purpose to help you find that inside yourself. But if you’re feeling fed up and frustrated with any area of your life that you feel stuck in, that you feel like you you’ve been trying to change but you’re not making progress, I want to talk to you today about why that is. I wanted to start off by reminding you of the power that you have inside of yourself to make any change you want to make in your life, to design and create the life you want to live, to overcome any challenge in your life, and to accomplish anything you want because you have to believe and accept that you indeed have that power if you want anything to happen or change in your life. If you’ve been trying to change your life or your family’s life, if you’ve been trying to get out of debt, or lose weight, or grow your business, or whatever it is, and you keep finding yourself back in the same situations over and over again, or you keep having the same arguments over and over again with the people in your life, I want you to know that there’s nothing with you, you’re not broken, or incapable, or lazy, I KNOW you’re not, you are someone who cares a great deal, and you work really hard, and you DO have everything you need inside of you at your disposal to create that change you want, so what gives? Let’s go a little deeper today and take a look. School has started back up for most of us moms with school aged kids, and there’s a good chance that your family might be doing distance learning, which means, you’ve just been dumped with a whole new set of challenges that’s probably testing you mentally, physically, emotionally, all the ways. Today I want to discuss gratitude, because it’s likely that if you’re listening, if you’re someone who is into personal development, I’m guessing that you already practice some kind of gratitude routine, you might have a morning or evening routine where you write out what you’re grateful for, you might incorporate gratitude into prayer, or if you use my daily worksheet, The Mama Miracle, then of course, you’ll find that there’s a section in there where you identify what you’re grateful for and what you welcome more of in your life. Gratitude is a powerful mindset that can help us attract and create the life we want, or that we can move into whenever we’re feeling lack or feeling negatively about the challenges of motherhood or the challenges in our life in general. But, did you know there’s a way that we sometimes sabotage the benefits of being grateful? Alright hear me out. Have you ever noticed when you’re trying to feel grateful about something, that immediately after having a thought of gratitude, the very next thought is one of worry that the things you are trying to be grateful for might be taken away, or that you don’t deserve the thing you’re trying to be grateful for, or, do you ever feel like you shouldn’t have the thing, because you know that there are other people out there who don’t have it as good as you do, who aren’t as blessed as you are? Perhaps you’ve never noticed until now that you do this. Alright so I’ve said enough for now, but that’s what we’re going to talk about today and I’d like to leave you with some thoughts that will hopefully free you from any kind of possible negative side effects from trying to focus on gratitude and allow you to potentially experience true joy that comes from feeling truly grateful and here’s the key world, abundant. Today I want to go a little deeper with you and talk about ways in which you might be able to grow as a person. Are there areas of yourself, your personality, your habits, your skills, would you like to fine-tune in order to grow as a person and get to the next level? See this is what personal development is. It’s about actively seeking out ways to be a better version of you. And this might be very uncomfortable at times. Growing requires us to get uncomfortable. But facing the parts of yourself that are uncomfortable to look at is free-ing, and allows you to expand, to deepen your relationships, to do more things and experience life in a whole new way. And so it’s really important that we’re always working on personal development, this is a process that should never stop, because the good news is, we can get better in any area of our lives, no matter how long we’ve struggled with any particular area of ourselves, because we have unlimited potential as human beings. Your family needs you to keep working on yourself, I always say this, when you work on yourself, you are doing the world around you a favor, you are setting a wonderful example to the next generation, and you are helping to make the world a better place. You’ve probably noticed that the phrase as “self-love” has kind of been popularized on the internet in the past few years or so. I think that we’re definitely moving into a generation that understands that beating yourself up or living with self-guilt or just generally feeling bad about yourself, does not help you better yourself. Because in order to truly become the best version of yourself, and get to the next level, and achieve more, you have to begin with loving yourself first and accepting yourself just where you are. Today I want to talk to you about why you get overwhelmed and what to do about it. I’m going to give you three common mistakes moms make that that lead to them feeling overwhelmed, and three practical strategies to prevent that. It’s really no question why moms get so overwhelmed, you could probably come up with three reasons right now, you could probably come up with at least three solutions right now. So why are you listening to this episode? The reason is likely because you keep finding yourself in the same place over and over again and you’re asking yourself how you keep letting the overwhelm happen. The first thing I want to say is, you’re doing an amazing job, I know you don’t hear that enough, you really are, and you deserve some trophies for real, but, at the end of the day, our mental and emotional health and energy is entirely up to us to manage, and that includes maintaining an organizational life structure to ensure we’re getting done what needs to get done and not burning ourselves out, managing our workload, and setting healthy boundaries while managing expectations appropriately. So in this episode I am going to give you the strategies for overcoming overwhelm, while also reminding you, the belief that mom life is just overwhelming by nature does not have to be true, and you have the power to change anything that’s not working for you. In Kris’s own words, “To finally feel a sense of acceptance to slow down, recharge and give back to themselves the way they do to others every single day.” The three key areas that Kris would like to invite you to be flexible in are: Permission to shift your morning routine. According to Kris, “Shifting your morning routine doesn’t make you a failure, it makes you amenable to circumstances.” Permission to repurpose your time. According to Kris, “Not everything has to be go-go-go all the time, it is OKAY to pick up a new hobby that has nothing to do with career success!” Permission to feel the feels. It’s so ironic to me that we, as some of the strongest, capable, resourceful, resilient, figure-it-out people in the universe, and I truly, truly believe that we are, are also the ones who doubt ourselves the most. We constantly beat ourselves up. We constantly second guess ourselves. We worry that we’re never doing it right, we worry that we’re never doing enough, we worry that we’re always getting it wrong. We dismiss our role and the importance and value of our role as “just moms,” especially if we are not financially contributing to the family, or if we don’t make a lot of money, as if that some how has anything to do with our worth (spoiler alert sister, it doesn’t). We get wrapped up in the everyday mom struggles, and lose sight of our ability to have genuine intelligent adult conversations, that we begin to question our value in the adult world, and on top of that, we question whether we’re even doing it right at home, and if our parenting is effective. It’s SO ironic to me, and I wish that, there were just a magic solution for all of us mamas to just be more confident all the time, and trust ourselves, and feel more empowered more often, but the truth is, self-confidence is a process, and it’s an ongoing process. Because motherhood is such a mind-fuck, with so many days where we are left feeling like we didn’t exactly win, it has to be an ongoing job to keep our mind right, to remind ourselves that we’re not doing anything wrong, that we’re worthy of love and acceptance, and that, we are always growing, we have unlimited potential to grow in the ways in which we want to grow. Because self-love, self-acceptance, self-worth, self-confidence, all of the things we want and deserve, doesn’t mean that we turn a blind eye to the areas in which we want to grow. I’m not going to be the person to tell you that you’re perfect just as you are and that you have no growing left to do, I mean, you are perfect just the way you are in terms of being worthy of love and acceptance and everything you want in this life, because you were born that way and there is NOTHING that could increase or decrease that worthiness, but no matter who you are, or how successful you are, or how much money you make, or what your credit score is, we are all equally a work in progress, we’re all constantly evolving, and I believe, we are right where we need to be on our journey on this planet. Just like our kids are growing and learning, we’d never tell them to stop, but, we honor their journey and we nurture the growing process. In this episode, I want to honor you, all that you do, all that you are capable of, and perhaps, NOT capable of on any particular day, and respecting that, and give you some practical tips on how to increase your self confidence and how worthy you feel, and encourage you to step in to your everyday role like a CEO shows up to work. Let’s talk about the mentality that a CEO brings with her to her job every day, and how that can be applied at home. I am so glad you’re here. You inspire me so much. Your’e the reason why I’m here because I believe in you. Because once upon a time I was a girl who didn’t believe in herself, and then I found my power, and that changed my life and change what I felt capable of, and I know that there are some of you who deep down still have belief and worth issues, but you still have incredible power, you just need to find it and tap into it. Well, hey there! I am so excited to share today's episode with you. Believe it or not, at one point I didn't know that burnout wasn't mandatory. I really felt like the harder I worked, the better I was doing in my career and as a mother and a wife and I followed into that goofy myth that says, "You can do it all." And the reality is you CAN'T do it all. And most women don't do it all. Remember that old saying, "It takes a village to raise children"? It really does! So why has motherhood become so isolating in recent years? That's a rhetorical question, because motherhood shouldn't be isolating and we shouldn't have to do it alone.I had a friend come visit from Saint Louis a couple year's back, and we were sitting and having dinner. Her name is Gena, and she had small twin girls at the time and she's also an orthodontist. And I had two little children at the time too. And I was like, "Gena, how do you do it all? You have this successful orthodontic practice, you have these twins, you look like you're thriving. You guys look like you're so happy. I can't barely get dressed or get to work, you know, how do you do it all?" And she looked at me and she said, "I don't, I have help."I said, "What?! I can barely get dinner on the table and grocery shopping is a nightmare. . ." And she looked at me and she goes, you go grocery shopping?" And I was like, "Yeah, I go grocery shopping." And she said, "No, you need to get your groceries delivered."Ya'll, it had never dawned on me that I could ask for help or outsource services that I didn't have time to do myself. It's interesting because she was one of the very first women that really came forward and said, "Look, I'm a career woman, I have children, that's a lot. I'm pulled in a lot of different directions so I don't do it all. I get help. I have my groceries delivered. And I also have someone to help with the kids." So over the last couple of years, I've learned to ask for help. And how to receive help. You don't need to be at a certain level of income to get help. You could ask your partner for more assistance, ask your mom, your sister, or a friend. Do a trade with you neighbor to carpool some days, or do a play date trade.
