THE LAST SHOW ON EARTH

Welcome to the theatrical podcast in which we ask a special guest the big, BIG question that nobody ever needed to ask. If there was a huge meteor hurtling toward Earth threatening to destroy life as we know it and you could see one more show before you die, what would it be? It can be anything you want.A show you've seen before, one that you wish you'd seen, or something you've made up entirely. What would be YOUR Last Show on Earth? Our guest this episode is Rob Madge.Rob is an award winning non-binary performer that started their career in theatre at a very young age playing leading child roles in shows like Mary Poppins, Matilda, Oliver, and Les Miserables - most notably playing Gavroche at the Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Concert in 2010 at London's O2 Arena. In fact, Rob had appeared in 4 West End shows before they reached the age of 15!Since then, Rob has created probably their greatest success to date with the critically acclaimed Off West End Show "My Son's a Queer (But What Can You Do)?" The show is a coming of age, autobiographical story that tells the tale of Rob's childhood attempt to stage a full-blown one-person Disney show in their living room, and also explores Madge's uplifting and inspiring discovery that they are non-binary. The show played a hugely successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe and will play a limited run at The Garrick Theatre in London's West End this year. You can get more info and buy tickets for "My Son's a Queer (But What Can You Do)?" here: https://nimaxtheatres.com/shows/my-sons-a-queer/Rob also creates hugely popular and very funny short movies for social media so youshould follow him!You can follow Rob on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/Rob_Madge_02And on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/robmadge02/You can buy the script of My Son's A Queer here: https://www.nickhernbooks.co.uk/rob-madgeYou can buy In Their Shoes by Jamie Windust here: https://www.waterstones.com/book/in-their-shoes/jamie-windust/9781787752429Hosted by John Owen-Jones and Alistair BrammerMusic written by John Owen-Jones and Alistair BrammerMusic performed by John Owen-Jones and John QuirkRecorded and edited by John Owen-Jones and Alistair BrammerArtwork by Martin Ball, John Owen-Jones and Alistair BrammerThis podcast is a 2022 John Owen-Jones Associates Productionwww.johnowenjones.com/podcast Hosted on Acast. Jamie is an invincible voice for change within the fashion and beauty industries, having modelled for Gucci, LOVE Magazine, and DB Berden, alongside their magazine FRUITCAKE winning Graduate Fashion Week in London, in 2018, which has now been sold in countries all over the world. Jamie has written for national publications such as Metro UK, The Independent and Gay Times, and in December, 2019, was asked to speak at the 2nd TEDxLondon Womens' event at The Queen Elizabeth Hall. A very important talk to listen to - the link is below. Excitingly Jamie has recently released their first debut book, In Their Shoes, which on its very first day already shot to the top of the charts. In this episode Jamie touches on how they had to navigate an identity they weren’t given any example of - coming from a small, rural town - alongside a family who had yet to understand the fluidity of gender beyond societies conformities. Luckily, Jamie managed to start blogging their experiences online and found not only a voice, but also a community of like-minded people, and a place and reassurance of their own identity. In this episode our guests will reveal their own experiences, both good and bad, as well as discussing some of the key issues. Which brands are getting it right and what should we be focusing on more? Are women who wear hijab visible enough, what about the representation of non-binary people, or those with disabilities? In this podcast we answer question's sent in by followers around LGBTQ+ dating and relationship issues including: I really want to understand the difference between non-binary and gender neutral and how to refer to non-binary people in language that isn’t genderised. My gay friend doesn’t date bi-sexual people but he was offended when I said that I wouldn’t want to date a bisexual man, can we discuss this? How do you navigate being out and proud with relationships when living in a ghetto area where hate crime is more likely? How can I support my best friend who has transitioned but who has changed their personality so much that I barely recognise their personality and I don’t get them anymore. They are not the person I made friends with but I feel like if I raise it it’ll be seen as being related to their transition? Is it harder for someone who has had gender reassignment surgery to orgasm? Why do LGBTQ relationships move so much faster than cis het relationships? Do you think it’s essential to disclose that you are trans to people who you are dating? My son is in secondary school and he has come out to me as gay, I want to encourage him to live his best proud life but I also don’t want him to become a target for bullying. Is it oppressive if I suggest that he doesn’t tell his school friends yet?
