Happy Wine Wednesday!  Award winning journalist Abbey White is back this week to bid a fond farewell to the FX series Pose.  We kick things off with our thoughts on the unexpected announcement that the series was coming to an end.  We then share our overall impressions of the final season.  We loved ALL things Elektra, but did not love some of the pacing issues created by the reduction of episodes.Series co-creator Steven Canals said that in mapping the final season out, the writers looked back to the dreams of the main characters identified in season 1 and essentially set out to make those dreams come true in the final season.  With that in mind, we walk through the final chapter in each character's arc and share our thoughts on where they ultimately landed.Next, we discuss our favorite episodes and musical cues.  We also share our MVPs of the series.  No discussion of Pose would be complete without discussing our thoughts on Pose's chances for long overdue awards season recognition and why the few nominations the show gets seem to all go to Billy Porter. The episode closes with our thoughts on Pose's legacy and the actors who made us thirsty. Follow us on Twitter and Instagram at @MoreWinePod! This week we are discussing three progressive shows on Netflix and Hulu that showcase inclusivity, LGBTQ issues, women’s empowerment, sex positivity and representation. If you are one of those people who say, “there’s nothing to watch,” this episode is for you! We start off with Ryan Murphy’s Netflix original drama, Pose, which spotlights the legends, icons, and fierce house mothers of New York City’s African-American and Latino underground LGBTQ and gender-nonconforming ballroom culture scene in the 1980s and early 90s. The show features the largest cast of transgender actors in series regular roles, including MJ Rodriguez, Dominique Jackson, Indya Moore, Hailie Sahar and Angelica Ross. The show premiered on FX and received critical acclaim and numerous award nominations for the Golden Globes, and Emmys. Many of the characters either battle with HIV/AIDS or know someone dying of the disease. Pose exposes the terrible conditions of these patients and the stigma surrounding their diagnosis. We became obsessed with this show for its portrayal of such heavy matter, done in a beautiful and moving production style. Next we discuss She’s Gotta Have It, a daring story of a sex-positive woman, Nola Darling (played by DeWanda Wise) and her three lovers based on the film by Spike Lee. The series displays her struggle to stay true to herself and fulfill her dreams while juggling her personal life. She fights misogyny and uses her artistic gifts to create anti-catcalling posters. The show openly supports the Black Lives Matter movement, and features a mostly Black cast. We loved the show’s racial and sexual message, along with its unique directional approach. Lastly, we talk about The Bold Type, a must-watch for women’s empowerment. The show is based on real-life former Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Joanna Coles, and she serves as executive producer for the show. Although the show fictionalizes the magazine name as and highlights fictional characters, the empowering environment is based on reality. The series chronicles the lives of three millennial women, Jane Sloan (Katie Stevens), Kat Edison (Aisha Dee), and Sutton Brady (Meghann Fahy) who are employed at the fictional global publication called Scarlet in NYC under Jacqueline Carlyle (Melora Hardin). We hope you enjoy this episode and check out the Pose, She’s Gotta Have it, and The Bold Type. Leading trans thinkers and creatives, including Laverne Cox, Lilly Wachowski, Yance Ford, Mj Rodriguez, Jamie Clayton, and Chaz Bono, share their reactions and resistance to some of Hollywood's most beloved moments. Grappling with films like A Florida Enchantment (1914), Dog Day Afternoon, The Crying Game, and Boys Don't Cry, and with shows like The Jeffersons, The L-Word, and Pose, they trace a history that is at once dehumanizing, yet also evolving, complex, and sometimes humorous. What emerges is a fascinating story of dynamic interplay between trans representation on screen, society's beliefs, and the reality of trans lives. Reframing familiar scenes and iconic characters in a new light, director Sam Feder invites viewers to confront unexamined assumptions, and shows how what once captured the American imagination now elicit new feelings. DISCLOSURE (formerly titled Disclosure: Trans Lives on Screen) is an unprecedented, eye-opening look at transgender depictions in film and television, revealing how Hollywood simultaneously reflects and manufactures our deepest anxieties about gender. Leading trans thinkers and creatives, including Laverne Cox, Lilly Wachowski, Yance Ford, Jen Richards, Mj Rodriguez, Jamie Clayton, and Chaz Bono, share their reactions and resistance to some of Hollywood’s most beloved moments. Grappling with films like A Florida Enchantment (1914), Dog Day Afternoon, The Crying Game, and Boys Don’t Cry, and with shows like The Jeffersons, The L-Word, and Pose, they trace a history that is at once dehumanizing, yet also evolving, complex, and sometimes humorous. What emerges is a fascinating story of dynamic interplay between trans representation on screen, society’s beliefs, and the reality of trans lives. Reframing familiar scenes and iconic characters in a new light, director Sam Feder (Kate Bornstein is a Queer and Pleasant Danger) invites viewers to confront unexamined assumptions, and shows how what once captured the American imagination now elicit new feelings. DISCLOSURE provokes a startling revolution in how we see and understand trans people. Director Sam Feder joins us for a conversation on the prejudice and crippling stereotypes being pushed out by film and television as well as barrier breaking stories being told by filmmakers, writers and artists For news and updates go to: disclosurethemovie.com Watch: Disclosure premieres June 19 on Netflix

Having women participate in the economy at an identical rate as men would boost the world's economy annually by approximately $28 trillion. Yet, gender equality is still something that needs to be fought for in workplaces around the world. Kweilin Ellingrud, a senior partner at McKinsey where she leads gender equality research, sits with Analisa Balares, CEO and founder of Womensphere and commissioner of the women's refugee commission, to discuss why gender equality is not a zero-sum game, how we can encourage future generations of workers to champion women’s empowerment, and what companies can do to attract and maintain a diverse workforce.Hosted by MJ Rodriguez, Dare I Say is a podcast from HarpersBAZAAR.com and Edit Audio Inc. that sits in on unfiltered conversations between the most influential women of our time. In 2016, Gretchen Carlson made headlines around the world when she was demoted and subsequently fired from Fox News after refusing sexual advances from her boss, Roger Ailes. Her story was the catalyst which prompted numerous women to come forward with similar allegations. Many of whom had been forced into secret arbitration to settle their complaints and as a result got swept under the rug. Both Gretchen and Senator Gillbrand have been champions of The Fair Act, which eliminates forced arbitration clauses in employment, consumer and civil rights cases, and allows consumers and workers to agree to arbitration after a dispute occurs. In this episode, the two women sit down to discuss workplace sexual assault and harassment as a bipartisan issue and how to create safer and fairer workplaces for people across the country.Hosted by MJ Rodriguez, Dare I Say is a podcast from HarpersBAZAAR.com and Edit Audio Inc. that sits in on unfiltered conversations between the most influential women of our time. Evan Rachel Wood still cannot name her attacker to this day for a fear of safety. The two women are demanding change from both the media and lawmakers by pushing legislations such as The Phoenix Act, which was designed to improve rights for domestic abuse survivors, instead of pushing for harsher punishments for perpetrators. Hey Sprinklers! We are back from a bit of a break, with a show chock-full great streaming recommendations as well as a Tasty-Treat-Sensation that will blow your socks off!HBO's BIG LITTLE LIES is just breathtaking! It tackles some very serious and intense issues all the while keeping you in suspense and wanting more! The cast is full of Hollywood powerhouses, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Meryll Streep, Nicole Kidman, and Zoë Kravitz who are all incredible. This is strictly a show for adults as it contains depictions of violence and nudity. (What HBO doesn't have violence and nudity?) It's very powerful and really one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. Then I rave on about FX's Pose! Season 1 is on NETFLIX, season 2 has already aired on FX and will apparently coming to NETFLIX sometime this year. The largest cast of Transgender actresses of any show to date. The cast is spectacular! Billy Porter is a scream and such a talent! India Moore is stunning. MJ Rodriguez will steal your heart! And Dominique Jackson is a modern day Joan Collins! Centered around late 1980s New York in the Ball scene which inspired one of Madonna's most famous songs Vogue. Contestants (many of whom were members of the LGBT community) walked runways to compete for trophies. The various themes were fascinating! The houses which is what they called various teams where often literally a collection of people who would live in one house under a "Mother" who would over see the house. Often these were cast-outs who were abandoned by their families because of them being LGBT. The series is set admit the AIDS epidemic. (See the fabulous and heartbreaking documentary, PARIS IS BURNING on NETFLIX to see what POSE is centered on). Pose will want you coming back for more. I recommended this to all my friends who were all so angry when they finished season 1 and realized season 2 is still not on NETFLIX yet. This is also an adults only show. For our Tasty-Treat-Sensation we have Popeye's New Fried Chicken Sandwich. It is incredible! Ever since I had it I have been craving it more and more! Let me recommend you get the fries and the coleslaw! You will not be mad ;)
