Star Wars Celebration Japan has come and gone and since there's no new Star Wars comics this week, we break down the key comics news that was made the semiannual event celebrating all thing Star Wars. One thing that was notable was convention-exclusive Star Wars: Beyond Victory #1 by Ethan Sacks, Steven Cummings, Will Sliney and Shogo Aoki, with a cover by Phil Noto. The one-shot was only available at the ILM/Meta booth at Star Wars Celebration in Japan. It serves as prequel story to the Meta Quest experience "Star Wars: Beyond Victory -- A Mixed Reality Playset." So far (as of April 23), four copies are on eBay, with one at $305. We don't have a copy -- it's unclear if it'll ever be released outside of SWCJ -- but when we get one, we'll offer up a review. One thing that drew our attention? Marvel editor in chief C.B. Cebulski, at Star Wars Celebration's Lucasfilm Publishing panel, said the company is doing a Millennium Falcon-focused comic later this year.Comics Discussed This Week:Star Wars: Beyond VIctory #1 Star Wars Comics New to Marvel Unlimited This Week:Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku -- Last Stand #3 (of 4)News: Star Wars Celebration Japan concluded. Skywalking Through Neverland: A Star Wars / Disney Fan Podcast
This D23: Ultimate Fan Event 2024 celebrated The Sherman Brothers in a big way. They have contributed so much to Disney's legacy, so we wanted to take this episode to pay our own special tribute to them. Walt Disney hired Richard and Robert Sherman in 1960 to be the Walt Disney Studios ONLY in-house composers, and they worked on such classics like Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, The Parent Trap, “The Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room”, “it's a small world after all”, and hundreds more. Richard and Sarah give a brief history of the Sherman Brothers and share our personal stories meeting Richard Sherman. Then, sit back and listen to the entire “Road To Cherry Tree Lane: Walt Disney's Mary Poppins” panel, recorded at D23 2024. Disney music historian Randy Thornton hosted this panel in which he shares how Walt's daughters Diane and Sharon, Davy Crockett, Disneyland/Vista Records, and Annette Funicello were all crucial intersections on “The Road to Cherry Tree Lane ” and Walt Disney's Mary Poppins. You'll hear some great history, and also audio excerpts from the story meetings between the Sherman Brothers and P.L. Travers - writer of Mary Poppins books. If you watch this episode on YouTube, you'll see a slideshow of images to go along with the panel. Prepare yourself, because the tributes continue! During the D23 Disney Parks Showcase panel at The Honda Center on 8/10/24, Meghan Trainor stepped onstage to sing "Feed The Birds", and we've included an excerpt here. Today in Star Wars History - 8/19/1973 Happy Birthday Ahmed Best! For the Star Wars Prequels, Ahmed Best provided the motion capture and voice for Jar Jar Binks who was the first fully-computer-generated supporting character in a feature film. He also provided the voice for Jar Jar in Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series and has a cameo as Achk Med-Beq in Attack of the Clones. Ahmed returned to the Star Wars saga in a flashback to Order 66 in The Mandalorian episode, “Chapter 20: The Foundling,” He is the Jedi Kelleran Beq who saves Grogu. Best had previously appeared as Kelleran Beq when he hosted the children's game show, Jedi Temple Challenge. SPONSORS Small World Vacations is an official sponsor of Skywalking Through Neverland. Just last week Ahmed Best took Kelleran Beq from internet game show to Star Wars canon. This week, Garazeb Orellios went from animated in an animated series to...well, okay, computer generated and animated in live action. It was still great to see a Rebels character come to life! Okay, we saw Ahsoka do that last season. Hey, you get my point! Did you ever think we'd see the Armorer tell someone to take it off? The helmet I mean. I mean, this isn't the way, is it? I guess it is now, since she's hear the true tale of the Mythosaur on Mandalore. Ooh, that's a good title. There's blaster battles, dogfights in ships, Rodians running interference, SNL cast members annoyed with droids, and the Armorer handing off hammers and smacking them in alien faces. Good stuff! Mandalorians get a piece of the promised land in the lava flats of Nevarro and that's great timing since R5-D4 can't keep secrets. Sorry, Capitan Azul, you gots ta go. Here's hoping Carson Teva gets an action figure soon. We haven't bought one in a while, but if I was a cosplayer, I might have found my wheelhouse. Welcome to Challenge Accepted, the podcast where we review the latest episodes of our favorite shows. I'm Frank and I'm joined by my co-host Thomas. Today, we'll be discussing Chapter 20 of The Mandalorian, titled "The Foundling." Right off the bat, we were conflicted by this episode. On one hand, it did everything we love about the show: our heroes embark on an epic adventure while expanding the franchise's mythology. However, it left us wondering what the big plan is for the season, especially coming after an episode that seemed to take the show in another direction. What exactly is "The Way"? But, there was one reveal in this episode that was simply magnificent and almost saved everything else around it. We're talking about the flashback that shows how Grogu was saved during Order 66 by none other than Kelleran Beq, played by Ahmed Best, who previously portrayed Jar Jar Binks. Best has had a tough time in the public eye due to the reception of his character, but it's great to see him back in the Star Wars universe, and even better to see his character's redemption in the form of saving Grogu. In this episode, we also see Grogu start training with the other foundlings and using his Jedi skills to beat another Mandalorian in a game of darts. We get some great scenes of the Mandalorians in training, but we can't help but feel like the episode was dragging at certain points. The Armorer continues Grogu's training and explains the importance of the beskar forge to Mandalorian culture. Grogu watches the machinery and is transported back to his Order 66 memory, where we see Beq come to his rescue. It's a satisfying turn of events to finally get some answers about Grogu's past, and we hope to see more of Beq in the future. Overall, this episode of The Mandalorian had its ups and downs, but the flashback with Beq was a standout moment that we won't forget anytime soon. We'll be eagerly awaiting the next episode to see what the show has in store for us next. Thanks for tuning in to Challenge Accepted!
