Star Wars Celebration Japan has come and gone and since there's no new Star Wars comics this week, we break down the key comics news that was made the semiannual event celebrating all thing Star Wars. One thing that was notable was convention-exclusive Star Wars: Beyond Victory #1 by Ethan Sacks, Steven Cummings, Will Sliney and Shogo Aoki, with a cover by Phil Noto. The one-shot was only available at the ILM/Meta booth at Star Wars Celebration in Japan. It serves as prequel story to the Meta Quest experience "Star Wars: Beyond Victory -- A Mixed Reality Playset." So far (as of April 23), four copies are on eBay, with one at $305. We don't have a copy -- it's unclear if it'll ever be released outside of SWCJ -- but when we get one, we'll offer up a review. One thing that drew our attention? Marvel editor in chief C.B. Joe practices his best Lars Mikkelson impression, while Mike has a million questions about the Empire and its inner workings, just like Thrawn! Join us for a closer look at this fascinating character!

On this Taste Test, Jezzie samples "Star Wars--Thrawn", Book one of the Thrawn Trilogy. Find out why he would compare this to a nice bottle of chianti, a layered wine with many notes. These deep dark layers of strategy, mystery, and political intrigue are revealed as the origin story of Thrawn's meteoric rise to Grand Admiral unfolds. Listen in as Jezzie shares more Star Wars lore in setting the tale of this Machiavellian strategist and how it adheres and feeds into the magnificent Star Wars Universe.

Justina Ireland's book DREAD NATION has been called “Gone With the Wind with Zombies,” a description that we think does Ireland's work a great disservice. It is a book about zombies, but it is so much more than that. We thought we'd let Justina Ireland herself describe the book and its sequel, Deathless Divide. The following quote is the author describing her inspiration, found in an interview that can be found online at Blackgirlnerds.com. Ireland says: “The original idea for Dread Nation and Deathless Divide came about in response to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I was reading that book and thinking: How could women who didn't even dress themselves suddenly become zombie fighting machines? If anything, I thought, they would've had ladies' maids to do the zombie-killing for them. And as I considered what that would look like in the United States, the first draft of Dread Nation was born. It featured Negro girls who went to special combat schools to better themselves, similar to the Indian boarding schools of the late nineteenth century. Soon, I had a book about zombies and pretty girls fighting the dead in fancy dresses with lovely blades. Cute boys showed up to complicate things and voila! It seemed like a great young adult novel. One part intrigue, one part survival, a dash of romance, shake until blended and serve chilled.” Recommend in this episode: Grady Hendrix's The Final Girl Support Group, Timothy Zahn's original Star Wars Thrawn series (early 90s) Heir to the Empire and Dark Force Rising, and Netflix's Sweet Tooth Next Episode: "Especially Heinous" by Carmen Maria Machado Please rate and review us, or better yet, tell a friend. Zgodnie z zapowiedziami sprzed niespełna miesiąca, Mando i Jerry postanowili szybko domknąć nową trylogię Thrawna i już dziś zapraszają na omówienie tomu trzeciego, czyli „Thrawn. Zdrada”. Grand Admiral Thrawn made his Star Wars debut in 1991. But it wasn't until his appearance in Star Wars Rebels that the character was made canon. And now, the name Thrawn has been mentioned in The Mandalorian. Will we see a live-action version of the blue-skinned Chiss? In preparation for what's to come, David and Hannah discuss his origins in Star Wars: Thrawn, the 2017 novel written by his creator Timothy Zahn. For more Star Wars content visit insidetheforce.com. And why is this new novel, Star Wars: Thrawn Ascendency (Book I: Chaos Rising), not just the start of a new trilogy, but also a spiritual sibling with one of its predecessors, Thrawn: Alliances?
