THE MOST UNDERRATED STAR WARS NOVEL IN THE CANON? Force Collector is this week's focus; Mike gives his spoiler-free thoughts on the novel and why he thinks few people have heard much about it. He then talks about the era & themes within the book, before giving a spoiler warning where he gives his full thoughts on the book's plot & characters – Mike also provides a plot overview for anyone who may not have time to read this but wants to know what the book is about, although he doesn't reveal all, as he wants as many people to pick it up as possible! For ep 119, Mike delves into 6 issues of Greg Pak's Darth Vade run, set after Crimson Reign, where Vader & Sabé pursue an imperial governor working with Crimson Dawn and along the way Vader meets two people from his childhood on Tatooine. Nick Brokenshire did the artwork & colouring for the framing story, which is set between Empire Strikes Back & Return Of The Jedi. Ghosts Of The Machine's artwork & colours were done by Juan Samu, with the story set during the Clone Wars (22-19BBY), Undead or Alive is set during the High Republic Era (before Light Of The Jedi) and has artwork by Andy Duggan with colours by Roman Stevens, and In The Lair of The Dragon Slug is set just before Empire Strikes ack (3ABY) and has art by Rafael Pérez and colours by DJ Chavis. Mike tackled Cavan Scott's 3 other anthology horror comics; Tales of Vader's Castle, in episodes 76, 103 & 112 of SWCIC. APHRA IMPRISONED IN HER OWN MIND WHILE THE SPARK ETERNAL RUNS RAMPANT! AS THE NIHIL SCHEME ON CORELLIA, A GROUP OF JEDI INVESTIGATE! This week brings the final spoiler-free book review from Phase 1 of the High Republic era; the young adult novel Midnight Horizon by Daniel José Older! As with all of Mike's book reviews, he starts by giving his spoiler-free thoughts, then provides some minor plot details and confirms the book's themes & the characters, then nearer the end he provides a brief description of the whole plot, confirming characters who appear, more detailed arcs, and more spoiler-y information! He also provides his full ranking of all 9 High Republic books. This review is perfect for any fans of The High Republic! This book is even more enjoyable if you know the stories within The High Republic Adventures comics (written by Daniel José Older), which Mike tackled in episodes 86, 90 & 93. Midnight Horizon is the young adult novel of the third wave of the High Republic's first phase along with the junior novel Mission To Disaster and the adult novel The Fallen Star, all set in 230BBY. Mike has reviewed all books from phase 1, which are Light Of The Jedi (reviewed March 2021), A Test Of Courage (August ‘21) & Into The Dark (October ‘21), and The Rising Storm (November ‘21), Race To Crashpoint Tower (February ‘22) & Out Of The Shadows (March '22), as well as The Fallen Star in April 2022 and Mission To Disaster in July 2022. Phase 2 (set 150 years before phase 1) has started with the YA book Path Of Deceit, the junior novel Quest For The Hidden City and the yet-to-be-released adult novel Convergence. NIGHTMARES PLAGUE LINA GRAF & HER CREW WHILE VANÉE PERFORMS A RITUAL TO RESURRECT DARTH VADER! Mike delves into the final 5 “Vader's Castle” horror stories; Ghosts Of Vader's Castle, each story shows familiar faces from the original & prequel eras along with plenty of references, shocks and even a surprise appearance or two! This is a must-listen for any horror fans, or those wanting to hear the finale of Lina Graf's entanglement with the iconic Sith Lord & his Fortress on Mustafar! The continuous story is set just after Return Of The Jedi (around 4-5ABY). The writer for these comics was Cavan Scott and Francesco Francavilla is the artist & colour artist for the continuous story. For issue 1, Megan Levens is the flashback artist and Charlie Kirchoff is the flashback colour artist. Derek Charm, Robert Hack and Chris Fenoglio each did artwork & colours on the flashbacks of issues 2, 3 & 4 respectively. Issues 1-5 were released in September/October 2021, the trade paperback collection was released January 2022. The first batch of Vader's Castle stories was tackled in episode 76 of SWCIC and the second batch was in ep 103. Mike delved into all four volumes of 2017 Vader in ep 62, 66, 70 & 74 of SWCIC.
