Can you imagine going to prison for 23 years for a crime you didn’t commit? Well, that is the real-life story of today’s guest, Mr. Ricky Kidd. Ricky was arrested in 1996 for the shooting deaths of George Bryant and Oscar Bridges in Kansas City, MO. He was arrested and convicted despite the fact he had an alibi at the time of the crime. His public defender never presented his alibi at trial. No physical evidence linked him to the crime. The prosecutor has been accused of misconduct in several other cases and five of the convictions she helped secure have been overturned. Ricky was exonerated on his last appeal with the help of the Missouri Innocence Project. Ricky is now a motivational public speaker, author, and playwright. His sole post-exoneration focus has been to educate and inspire millions of people about resilience in the face of their challenges. Ricky also has advocated for the wrongfully convicted all over the country and has even trained prosecutors on how to avoid wrongful convictions as a criminal justice consultant. Because of this, many around the nation continue to be captivated by Kidd’s story of true Resilience. The intensity of the public’s focus on Kidd’s extraordinarily and compelling story has served as fuel for him to continue to share, educate and inspire. Giving Up for the Kingdom of God, by Kevin Strickland. 4/24/2022 Sunday PM Sermon.
John recounts Jesus' words to religious leaders who are hell-bent on rejecting and condemning him -–despite the evidence. These religious leaders are so motivated to condemn Jesus, they have already decided the verdict in their hearts. If we are honest with ourselves, some of us have made our verdict already, picking and choosing the things we “like” about Jesus. And rejecting anything that gets in the way of our desires or our comforts. We may like what Jesus says about heaven and love. But sexuality? Or money? Or caring for the marginalized? Or loving our enemies. Nah, I'm good. Our heart motivations may be different from the religious leaders in Jesus' day. But the outcome is the same. We too reject Jesus. So the question we have to wrestle with today is this. Whether you consider yourself a Christian or not, When it comes to Jesus–what will your verdict be?Sermon Notes: https://www.bible.com/events/4887074922.04.10

Dnes vám prozradíme, proč nepouštět Santu Clause k sobě domů a přinášíme příběh o dalším omylu americké justice.
Mr. Kevin Strickland left the Western Missouri Correctional Center after staying more than 40 years. He had been 18 years old when he went to prison and his first prosecution stumbled with a hung jury, but a panel convicted him of three murders in 1979 despite no physical evidence tied him to the crime. An eyewitness later recanted her testimony. Strickland, now 62, was convicted in the 1978 shooting deaths of one person 20,one 21, and the third person was 23. They were all killed on April 25, 1978. "It was not just a village, but a movement to bring him home," said Tricia Bushnell, the director of the Midwest Innocence Project. She confirmed that Strickland is back with his love ones after being ripped away from his life and family. Retired Missouri Judge ordered that Strickland be immediately released because his conviction should be overturned because it was not based on physical evidence but only on the since-recanted eyewitness's testimony. He was given $750,000.

A new Wisconsin law is allowing her to make a self-defense claim at her trial, in which she was initially denied the ability to make the defense. Pat and Kyle break down past wrongful convictions. Kevin Strickland spent over four decades in prison after police intimidated a witness into wrongfully identifying him as a murderer. After a long struggle, Strickland was exonerated. However, Missouri will not pay Strickland for his wrongful imprisonment. Pat explains the unfair treatment of people in US prisons, including the massive cost for prisoners to simply call their families. The average cost for a 15-minute prison call is over $5. Joy Reid leads this episode of The ReidOut with why some may see Donald Trump's former chief of staff Mark Meadows as a "degenerate sycophant" who has apparently chosen not to stand up for truth, as he declared on Tuesday that he will no longer cooperate with the Jan. 6 committee. Rep. Madeleine Dean joins us to discuss. Plus, it has been nearly two weeks since the first video was publicly released of Rep. Dezember. This Sunday's show isn't one that has been underreported lately, but that's only because the case involves an extremely egregious injustice here in Missouri. This is the story of Kevin Strickland. Strickland had been incarcerated in Missouri over 40 years--for a crime he did not commit. Due to a recent change in Missouri law, a judge was able to vacate this conviction, since the prime witness realized they picked the wrong man out of a lineup. This witness contacted various officials, but no one would listen. Finally, on November 23rd a hearing was held in Kansas City, Judge James Welsh accepted the testimony, and vacated Strickland's conviction. Strickland was released a few hours later. Meanwhile, the state of Missouri will not have to pay any reparation for this egregious miscarriage of justice. Strickland has no money, no home, nothing. He is living with family right now. Meanwhile the Mo. AG Eric Schmitt has been fighting this release. One last thing, the Mo. AG is white and a Trump ally--and Strickland is black. This IS about systemic racism and the inconvenient truth that this systemic racism has become accepted routine. Come listen. Jeanine

On COI #193 Kyle Anzalone discusses several examples of American police abusing, even killing, citizens and covering up the crimes. Police rarely face criminal charges – or any consequences – for misconduct on the clock. However, with growing scrutiny of the broken criminal justice system, some officers have faced accountability. Kyle breaks down the acquittal of Andrew Coffee IV and how it compares with the Kyle Rittenhouse trial. While other men were acquitted on the grounds of self-defense, the cases are very different. Coffee was charged for murdering his girlfriend, who was actually killed by the cops, and – unlike Rittenhouse – was convicted on a gun charge and still faces 30 years in prison. The corrupt legacy of the criminal justice system has allowed innocent Americans to rot in prison for decades. Kyle talks about the cases of Ju'zema Goldring, Kevin Strickland, and the Groveland 4. Kyle explains how the US economic war against the Taliban is killing Afghans. A Red Cross official warned that 20 million will go hungry this winter because of international sanctions. Kyle updates the US relationship with China. After meeting with Chinese leader Xi, Biden has taken an aggressive stand against the Asian power. The US sailed a destroyer through the Taiwan Strait – a near monthly occurrence under the Biden presidency – and announced new war games in the Philippines Sea with countries from four continents. Kyle looks at the secretary of state's recent trip to Africa, where Antony Blinken took up an anti-China message. To counter China in Africa, Washington is looking to forge stronger ties with the militaries across the continent. Blinken also warned of rising extremism in Africa, failing to realize the likely cause is – in part – the growing US military presence. Kyle discusses the growing conflict in Ethiopia as the Tigray People's Liberation Front presses on toward the country's capital. Ethiopian leader Abiy Ahmed is reported to have gone to the front lines to rally his forces. Kyle breaks down the recent coup in Sudan. The military seized power on October 25 and were met with protests. Though at least 40 demonstrators were gunned down following the putsch, Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok eventually returned to power. However, many protesters are unhappy with the terms he accepted to regain his title. Last, Kyle updates the decade-long conflict in Libya, sparked by Obama's 2011 regime change op and air war. While the country remains fractured, UN-organized elections are set for December. The son of former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, Saif al-Islam, emerged as a popular candidate, but was disqualified to run by the country's electoral commission.
