Biden drops out, we have questions (lots of them). NM's special session was a dud. On the bright side the ABQ Journal's John Trever had a great cartoon about it. The Salt Fire and several smaller fires around Ruidoso earlier this summer were arson. According to a Learner.com report that includes higher education, NM spends more than all but 3 other states on education. Paul argues that we should make firing government workers common again. Paul's opinion piece discusses his recent opinion piece on the Kids Count results and why we can no longer blame a lack of money for them. California EV sales drop. We want to believe that all children in America, from birth through high school, are  equally positioned to learn, dream, and thrive. The reality, which is well-documented through unassailable data collected by Kids Count, a national initiative funded by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, is starkly different. As Kimberly Perry, executive director of DC Action says on this episode of Power Station, the input into our children isn't equal so the outcome isn't going to be equal. A failure to invest in quality childcare, public schools and out-of-school resources in Black and Brown communities is a direct result of public policies rooted in racism, leaving a legacy of discrimination that is embedded in our public systems. DC Action is dissecting these systems to better understand what is working and where change is needed. It works with parents and young people to create policy solutions and push for their passage into law by the DC Council and Mayor. DC Action is both a resource to lawmakers and a formidable advocate for policies and programs that uplift young people. And Kim Perry is a powerful leader who leads with love and optimism.

Back in 2020, Lake Charles, Louisiana suffered from back to back hurricanes, and while some areas of the city have since recovered, others look like the storms just blew through yesterday. Now, money from the Biden administration could help the area become more resilient, but some worry the investments won't get to the neighborhoods and people that need it most. WWNO's coastal reporter Halle Parker recently visited Lake Charles and spoke with residents. She joins us for more on her reporting. According to a new report, Louisiana ranked 50th in children's economic well-being and 49th in children's health. The report found that the state lacks options when it comes to affordable child-care, and often affordable options cause parents to miss work or even quit their jobs.  We hear more from Teresa Falgoust, director of data and research for Agenda for Children, Louisiana's member of the KIDS COUNT network, which authored the report. Wednesday, June 29, 2022 - North Dakota is seeing more diversity within its youth population, but researchers say they face a tougher road in securing a brighter future. According to Kids Count, nearly one in four children in North Dakota is a person of color. However, because of discriminatory policies in place their families are less likely to achieve economic security. We visit with North Dakota Kids Count Dir. Xanna Burg. ~~~ Bison were hunted to near extinction at the same time as the European cow was brought to the Americas. Cattle quickly became the most dominant meat eaten here. Who are our vulnerable neighbors? How can we get to know them? And how does the gospel compel us to act on their behalf? In today's episode, Autumn and Jill Anschutz answer these questions in light of the impact of our state and local educational systems on vulnerable children. Schools that perform consistently bring stability to the lives of children which links directly to outcomes they experience later in life. Jill is a Board Member of the Charter School Institute, an organization that authorizes charter schools for the state of Colorado, and Rocky Mountain Prep, a local Pre-K through 5th Grade charter school. Autumn and Jill conclude that church's active involvement in local educational institutions can be a means to bring about good for our neighbors and discuss the various ways that involvement may take shape.
