They're just "oh, great. We can do Twitter. We can do Facebook and we can do LinkedIn and we can do Snap and we can do all these things. So let's just throw content out there and see what happens." What are you doing to make real human connection? Making Conversations about human connection Count! "Digital connection is the junk food version of real connection. So you must have boundaries within yourself that your digital following is not the same as your friends and family.." Simone Heng, Making Conversations Count - (September 2022) Psst! Low on data? Here's a lower bandwidth version for you. Avoid digital junk food and make REAL human connections! How much are you doing to proactively maintain the connections in your life? Are you hiding behind your device's screen all day, every day, or are you actually making appointments to take your conversations out into the real world. Doing so is far more important than you might think. For one thing, it helps you to avoid loneliness. Simone Heng is an expert in human connection and has written a book called The Secret Pandemic. She's also delivered a talk at Google. It's a book that's all about keeping real connections in the lonely era of an internet first community. Wendy and Simone discuss the importance of human connection in a very internet-centric 2022.   You'll learn.... Human connection with social beginnings Keeping your head down and staying safe Loneliness is always seeking the engagement Challenges of having a purpose Simone's conversation that counts   A poignant moment from the episode: "In the book, I give this connection challenge to go through your most used messaging app in your phone, whatever that's WhatsApp. Maybe use SMS or Facebook and just go through the DMs and scroll back and think, who have I not heard from in the last six months to a year on this? And the names will pop up jog your memory. And the second source think about who tends to self isolate. So we all have friends who are introverts to extroverts on a spectrum and your introverts will tend to have made the pandemic an excuse to go deeper within themselves." But the opposite is also true, is if I'm feeling down, my wife can say, how many of your friends have no job and the freedom that you have. Right. In that comparison, you can regulate your happiness, but for your results, it is best to compare you to you. Right. Let's just better your best. And for me, this definition of success is kind of you moving towards your goal, whatever that is. So it's very personal, whatever that personal goal is. And if you find yourself in this situation, you can begin to move out of that situation and celebrate just maybe those first steps out of that situation. Right, so you're comparing yourself to you." You cannot say, oh, just because I'm running this out of my house or my basement or the back of my storefront, that it's not a real business. You need to register your business, you need to set up good bookkeeping, you need to have a tax accountant, you need to set up that, if that's relevant, where you are located. You have to do all of the right things because the pitfall a lot of newer sellers fall into is that they will not know their numbers, so they won't find out if they have made or lost money until they close the books at the end of the year. They don't close their books monthly, they don't track their expenses well...." Click here for the full transcript What IS Making Conversations Count?
