In this episode, we sit down with Dr. Kullervo Hynynen, a key figure in biomedical ultrasound and image-guided therapeutics. Starting from his academic roots at the University of Aberdeen to his current roles at the Sunnybrook Research Institute and the University of Toronto, Dr. Hynynen has played an instrumental role in advancing medical imaging. He has been at the forefront of investigating the use of focused ultrasound for various medical procedures such as non-invasive surgery, vascular surgery, targeted drug delivery, and gene therapy. Without his groundbreaking contributions, the medical field might not possess the capability to execute MR-guided focused ultrasound surgeries today. For those curious about the specifics of his contributions, the Focused Ultrasound Society has a comprehensive website detailing milestones in the therapy's development, where Dr. Hynynen's name frequently appears. Dr. Hynynen leads an extensive group at Sunnybrook, comprising approximately 50 to 100 members. These professionals span across the vast spectrum of focused ultrasound applications in both animals and humans.

Mitä tanssiteosten pukujen suunnittelussa tulee ottaa huomioon? Entä, mitä tanssi merkitsee pukusuunnittelijalle? Näihin muihin kysymyksiin vastausta tämän päivän jaksossa, tervetuloa mukaan! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The Story of Kullervo provides an interesting look at Tolkien's creative process and some of his source material for the Silmarillion.

Synopsis For the 1965-1966 season of the New York Philharmonic, Leonard Bernstein planned a series of concerts titled “Symphonic Forms in the 20th Century,” programming works by Mahler, Sibelius and other great European masters. Bernstein also included American symphonies, including, on today’s date in 1966, the belated premiere performance of David Diamond’s Symphony No. 5. Diamond began work on his Fifth Symphony in 1947, and its original inspiration was two-fold: Diamond wanted to compose a symphony for Bernstein to premiere and to translate into music the vivid emotions he experienced after attending a performance of Sophocles’ tragedy, Oedipus the King. But Diamond found recreating the Oedipus story harder than he thought. He ended up putting his Fifth aside, and finished and premiered his Sixth, Seventh, and Eight Symphonies before coming to the realization that, “Program symphonies were just not for me.” Years later, when Bernstein asked him “What ever happened to that symphony you were going to write for me,” Diamond explained all this to Bernstein, who replied, “Well, it’s about time you did something about it—it’s silly to have one symphony that just isn’t there!” And so, Diamond set to work completing a non-programmatic Fifth, dedicated to Leonard Bernstein. LINKS FROM MARILYN "It was the skalds, or bards, in the community who would memorize entire poems and recite them in the halls of Anglo-Saxon lords. The alliteration and repeated phrases (usually a sign that the poem in question started off as an oral rather than a written work) helped the bard remember the text. They'd chant the verses rather than singing them, but there have been several versions of bits of Beowulf set to classical music. Here's a link to Howard Hanson's Lament for Beowulf, with the text translated into contemporary English (and some pretty neat artwork and images!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-RqfMlHm04 The Finnish tale of Kullervo (inspiration for Túrin) from The Kalevala was also intended to be chanted. Here's a part of the Kullervo Symphony by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius which has a male chorus chanting some of the text: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0nWHCeus9E The chanting starts at around 1:40.

Toksinen maskuliinisuus mainittu! Toimittaja, käsikirjoittaja Emma Taulo, äänisuunnittelu Mikko Lohenoja, tuottaja Pertti Ylikojola.
