It's official. Beer festival season is in full swing. We're seeing new beers and new collaborations at every turn. What's even better is that we're seeing new breweries come to life, too. And in London last week, the capital's latest brewing business sprung into life. So say hello to South London's Palindrome Brew Co. Founded by Paul McTernan and Alin Sas, they're on a mission to make their mark with a community-focused brewery that puts hazy, hop-forward beers at the fore. But that's not to say you shouldn't expect other styles, too. Combining Paul's wealth of sales experience working for companies such as Verdant with Alin's deep knowledge of the industry, they've also enlisted Shawn Vail. Shawn is a graduate of the Siebel Institute of Technology. Moving over from the USA, he has previously worked for Stone Brewing Co among others, too.And last Saturday the team made their festival debut at Drop Project's excellent Friend's Fest, pouring their maiden IPA and DIPA releases. So what better time to catch up with one of the UK's most exciting new outfits. In this episode we speak with Paul to learn about how Palindrome came to be. Why leaving his dream job at Verdant was a step he needed to take and the brewery's focus on kegged output. We also discuss how Shawn's brewing prowess is already paying dividends and why figures such as Elusive Brewing's Andy Parker played a key role in setting Paul on his own path in beer. Umaasa lang ako sa mga landmarks. Sa paggamit ng mapa, mahalagang malaman mo muna kung nasaan ka (orienting yourself) bago mo malaman kung saan ka pupunta. When you think about Transylvania the name Dracula comes to mind. But did you know that Transylvania was originally part of Hungry and only incorporated into Romania after World War one. More importantly Romania is home to the Via Transilvanica long distance hiking trail which was officially launched on the 8th of October 2022. At that time the trail was 1400km but at the time of this interview covers just on 1600km in distance. The aim of this trail was to give travellers the chance to discover various parts of Romania in quite a unique way - different regions with their history, people, culture, landmarks, and stories. On launching it was designed to be the trail that unites. He's the best-selling author of the book Meaningful Marketing, he spent 5 years as direct of marketing at one of the fastest growing churches in the US, and 3 years as the VP of growth at a Christian marketing agency. So Alin, could you give us a quick tour of what you do? 2. I'm very interested in your S-L-O framework that you use to write all your emails. Could you walk us through that? 3. So as I understand it, your funnel works something like this: - you make youtube videos that promote your lead magnets - when people get the lead magnets, of course they opt-into your list - every day you send one, and I quote, “very entertaining story” while also plugging one of your products - and you get sales every day. I was wondering if we could go through one of those stories and you could break it down for us–like, say, the “I spent $613 on coffee” story? And talk about what makes a great story? 4. You are in a very email-list-dependent business. How do you deal with the issues that come with that, like trolls, unsubscribes, and delivering content every day? 5. You need to come up with a new idea every day. How do you do that without running up against burnout? 6. OK, you do something a lot of people are afraid to do. What sparks the experience? If it happens by chance, how should someone respond? There are few simple answers.Sravana Borkataky-Varma and Anya Foxen are co-authors of The Serpent's Tale, subtitled “Kuṇḍalinī, Yoga and the History of an Experience.” Both are scholars as well as practitioners – of Tantra (Sravana) and yoga (Anya) – and their research combines historical analysis with people's experiences.Together, we explore why it can be hard to differentiate the physical from the psychological and the spiritual. We also ask if there are limits to what Kuṇḍalinī stands for and reflect on the challenges involved in defining them. In the process, we consider why reports of Kuṇḍalinī awakenings are increasingly common.Although The Serpent's Tale is an academic book, it's an engaging guide to some fascinating characters – along with cultural overlaps between East and West that explain the evolution of Kuṇḍalinī narratives over the centuries.
