MELISA® Diagnostics is one of the worldwide leaders in Blood LTT or Lymphocyte Transformation Testing for metal allergies. In Part One of this special 2 part episode, Linda Nelson, CEO for MELISA, shares how the MELISA test was developed, patented and clinically validated. Linda Nelson is the daughter of Vera Stejskal, the developer of the test. Vera was an immunologist, specializing in immunotoxicology and worked for Astra Pharmaceuticals, also known as AstraZeneca, and initially developed the MELISA LTT test to screen workers. It wasn't long before Vera's colleague, dermatologist Margaret Forsburg, proposed using the test to detect metal reactivity in patients who believed they were being poisoned by their amalgam fillings. Vera was granted the right to patent the test and dedicated her life to raising awareness about metal's effects on human health and developing scientific tools to measure metal reactivity. The test became clinically validated after an independent lab in Germany conducted a 2003 study using 250 patients and various lymphocyte concentrations. In 2006 a follow-up study treated patients based on the MELISA test results and observed improvements in health. The clinically relevant test involves confirming metal reactivity through the test, removing metals indicated by the test and further monitoring the patient's health symptoms. A second study at Charles University in Prague selected 42 patients. 32 patients made lifestyle changes following MELISA testing. 94% reported significant health improvements. When asked how useful the MELISA test would be for patients prior to an implantation surgery, it was reiterated that testing only grabs a snapshot of what is happening in the body at the moment. It cannot predict the future sensitivities, as immune activity can start a week, month or years after exposure. Linda was asked if lab technicians noticed the delayed-reactivity of the cells during the testing period and Linda responded in the affirmative, stating that is why they have to wait at least five days before reading the test results. Both the Stimulation Index and the Morphology methodologies were explained. The morphology confirms or discards the allergy, when the cells are observed under a microscope. This is one of the techniques that sets the MELISA tests apart from other LTT methodologies. Linda discusses the importance of studying metal hypersensitivity and the need for hard evidence to support the removal of metals from the body. They also discuss the need for proper studies and research to understand the effects of metals on the body. They discuss the MELISA labs in Germany, Switzerland and Israel and Linda shares about future plans to extend into North America to satisfy an ever-increasing demand for testing. In this episode, you will learn: ● How the MELISA test was developed. ● How the MELISA test was clinically validated ● The delayed reactivity nature of a Type-IV metal allergy. . ● The options and pros/cons for testing pre and post surgery. ~Links and Resources~ To see images that accompany this episode click HERE. ~ To learn more visit HeavilyMetalled.com. ~ Check out the “Heavily Metalled” resource page: https://www.heavilymetalled.com/p/patient-resources/ ~ Follow Heavily Metalled on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/HeavilyMetalled ~ Follow Heavily Metalled on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/heavilymetalled/ ~ Subscribe to Heavily Metalled on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@HeavilyMetalled ~ Check out our sponsor MELISA.org ***Many WONDERFUL, supportive special-interest communities exist for metal allergies and diet, hardware issues, medical devices, etc., online and on social media. Nestled within an archipelago in Penobscot Bay, Stonington Harbor is a bustling working waterfront at the southern end of the island of Deer Isle. The towns of Stonington and Deer Isle share an island and a public school system, deep family ties, a culture rooted in commercial fishing and art, and, like much of the nation, a dire housing crisis. In these towns there are simply not enough places for working people to live. Over twenty years ago, a small group of passionate Islanders began brainstorming and researching one solution to the housing problem. In 2020 that group, Island Workforce Housing, broke ground on the construction of five homes, each containing two year-round rentals. This is just one solution to a monumental issue facing this island and other communities in Maine and around the country. In this episode, we'll learn about some of the history behind this community's housing crisis and what, specifically, is at risk if there are no long-lasting solutions for year-round housing. And we'll learn about two solutions that these communities are exploring: building year-round rental homes, and potentially regulating short-term rentals. This episode was written and produced Galen Koch and assistant producer Olivia Jolley for the Island Institute. Nicole Wolf takes the photographs that accompany this episode. From the Sea Up's Senior Editor is Isaac Kestenbaum. Thanks to Kathleen Billings, Linda Nelson, and the town of Stonington for participation in this episode. Thanks to Island Workforce Housing, specifically Henry Teverow, Maggie Kirsch, and Megan Dewey Wood. Special thanks to Anna and Ryan Woosley and their family for welcoming us into their home. This podcast is made possible by the Fund for Maine Islands and a partnership between the Island Institute, College of the Atlantic, Maine Sea Grant, and The First Coast. For more information about ongoing work in the Town of Stonington to address the housing crisis, visit: https://www.stoningtonmaine.org/gov/economic-development.php

Catherine Lough Haqqguist recently joined host Elias in the cave! You can see Catherine as Petra Bellweather on the final season of "Motherland: Fort Salem" For Haggquist, her return as Petra Bellweather brings her to over 140 professional acting credits in television and film over the course of her career. Haggquist has been a fixture across genres and mediums appearing on staples like "Supernatural", "Stargate: SG1", "Fringe", "Bates Motel", "Van Helsing", "Once Upon a Time", "The Good Doctor", "Superman and Lois", and "Another Life" to go along with roles in films like "Godzilla", "Elysium", "Fifty Shades Freed", and the horror festival favorite, "Puppet Killer". Prior to "Motherland: Fort Salem", where she plays mother and mentor to Abigail (Ashley Nicole Williams), Haggquist was perhaps best-known for playing Inspector Nora Harris on the long- running sci-fi-drama series "Continuum", Terry Sternholz in Hallmark's "Aurora Teagarden Mystery" movies, and Linda Nelson on "Chesapeake Shores". Motherland: Fort Salem follows Raelle Collar, Abigail Bellweather, and Tally Craven, three witches who are conscripted into the U.S. Army. They train in combat magic and use their vocal cords to enact "seeds" or "seed sounds", layering vocal sounds to create powerful spells. The series takes place in a women-dominated world in which the U.S. ended persecution of witches 300 years ago during the Salem witch trials after an agreement known as the Salem Accord.[5] The world finds itself at odds with a terrorist organization known as the Spree, a witch resistance group fighting against the conscription of witches. My film is done, now what? Many filmmakers are so concerned with the making of their film they forget to come up with a distribution launch strategy. If you want to learn what it takes to have success in the world of distribution, this is the podcast for you my friend. Linda Nelson of Indie Rights walks us through her strategies for the successful launch of a film.Linda's strategy follows a simple timeline. You start with Film Festivals to get the word out. Then a short theatrical release in order to get reviews from key critics. Launch on itunes where you can take advantage of being new and noteworthy. And distribution onto platforms that pay per movie. Later, after things slow down, you can look into platforms like Netflix.Proud Member of the IFH Podcast Network! For more great filmmaking and screenwriting podcasts:

Think about it - what could you learn from a distributor, really? For me it was a stretch. if you're like me and you assume distributors are gatekeepers then it's difficult to get over the mind talk running in your head that a distributor is out to get you in some way. Or at best just someone you have to pay along the way. Clearly this isn't the case but then there are those horror stories we've all heard over the years. Has this changed with the growing video on demand (VOD) marketplace evolving so quickly? You might be surprised what you learn from Linda Nelson of IndieRights.com during this 60 minutes of non-stop high-intensity flow of ideas to help you be more successful with your film.
