Our Great Coach on this episode is Lisa Alexander. Lisa was the coach of the Australian Netball team, known as the Diamonds, from 2011 to 2020. During that time She oversaw gold medal successes at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and 2015 Netball World Cup, as well as silver medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2019 Netball World Cup.We first interviewed Lisa in June 2020, soon after she had finished with the Diamonds. And since then, she has been a great supported of the podcast, encouraging us, offering feedback and introducing us to some other great coaches along the way. Recently however she started worked with Code sports interviewing some of the top netball countries in Australia as well as a recent deep dive with Eddie Jones. The interviews go a lot further and deeper than what you often get when coaches are interviewed about their teams and so we asked her to come back on to the podcast to talk about what she has learnt through that series of intervies. You can follow Lisa here:XInstagramLinkedInIf you would like to send us any feedback or if you know a great coach, who has a unique story to share, then we would love to hear from you, please contact us at paul@thegreatcoachespodcast.com or contact us through our website thegreatcoachespodcast.com Hosted on Acast. I am honoured to be joined again by high-performance consultant, Lisa Alexander, in this episode. Lisa works with coaches, teams and organisations to create winning and success-driven environments. Lisa is one of the most successful coaches in Australian sport. As the Head Coach of the Australian Diamonds, the Australian National Netball Team, Lisa lead the team to multiple wins including a Commonwealth Gold Medal. In 2021 Lisa received the Order of Australia, the highest recognition for outstanding achievement and service in the Australian honours system, for her significant service to netball at the elite level. We speak about Lisa's long career as Head Coach of the Diamonds. How she went about establishing a true person-centred environment; the parallels between teaching and coaching; getting to know your team and directive vs non-directive coaching.
To many of us steeped in grind culture, just the idea of rest is heretical. In this excellent manifesto, Tricia Hersey shares the deeply revolutionary practice of rest as something we all deserve because we are humans. It is not something we must steal or hide or something granted to us so we can be more productive. Join Lisa Alexander and me as we discuss what it means to engage in rest as an act of resistance. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/booksapplied/support

I wanted to start this mini-series with this amazing and funny share about how FEAR LIES. Lisa Alexander has been in the film industry for years but recently faced many fears as she embarked on writing her own made-for-film movie called 'My Father the Queen'. She captures the essence of this mini-series when she shared, 'with my knees knocking together I went for it'. You will laugh while being inspired as you listen to her share how her 'Daddy' issues held her back until she came to the clear realization that 'Fear Lies' and that she is truly worthy of success. I hope you enjoy her story and I hope it inspires you to face your fears to create the life you desire. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mia-jerritt/message
This week we delight in the glory of our Queen Liz Ellis, who stole the win (and everyone's hearts!) on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! We hear from former Australian Diamonds head coach, Lisa Alexander, on the recently announced Diamonds squad and she gives us her thoughts the inclusion of Adelaide Thunderbirds defender, Matilda Garrett. Round seven served up some tight matches where we saw the come-back-queens of 2023, the Swifts come from behind (again!) to steal the Sydney Derby from the Giants. The Firebirds, Lightning and Magpies were again unable to put in a 60-minute performance this week; and we wonder if the bottom four teams on the ladder are even a slight chance of making finals as we reach the halfway point of the season.
Lisa Alexander AM coached the Australia national netball team from 2011 to 2020. Alexander coached the Diamonds for 102 test matches, becoming the most capped Australian coach of all time. She oversaw gold medal successes at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and 2015 Netball World Cup. As Australian coach Alexander won 83 of her 102 test matches, an impressive 81% winning record. In this episode just sit back and listen to one of the best Australian coaches in any sport talk knowledgeably about mental health, success, player development, what she learned from Basketball and the deepest response to the "Ask the Coach" question we have ever had.

Violence against Black women is a complex issue that encompasses various forms of violence, including sexual violence, domestic violence, and its impact on mental health. Sexual violence against Black women often goes unrecognized and underreported due to societal stigmas and victim-blaming attitudes. Black women are more likely to experience sexual violence from intimate partners or acquaintances than from strangers. These experiences can lead to feelings of shame, guilt, and trauma, which can affect their mental health and overall well-being. Black women are also disproportionately affected by domestic violence, with rates being more than double those of white women. Domestic violence can have long-lasting effects on their physical and mental health, including depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The impact of violence on the mental health of Black women can be exacerbated by the intersection of racism and sexism. The stigma surrounding mental health in the Black community can make it challenging for Black women to seek help or support. They may also face additional barriers due to their gender, race, and socioeconomic status. In this video, VSC's Violence Prevention Educator, Hannah Jenarine, speaks with Lisa Alexander, Natalee Summers, and Leslie Pender to further the conversation! ----------------------------------- Trigger Warning: In this podcast, we will be discussing sensitive topics such as Sexual Assault. How's your support network?Surrounding ourselves with the right people could mean the difference between feeling affirmed and inspired or feeling like you can't do anything right.Imagine if a sports coach told their team they were trash when they needed to get more goals out of them instead of building them up with positive reinforcement. They probably wouldn't be winning any comps any time soon.A good team brings out the best in everyone and it doesn't only apply to sport. A good team uses everyone's strengths for the common good, and a good leader will recognise this and nurture those strengths.Someone who made this happen in a big way is Lisa Alexander, former Diamonds head coach for Netball Australia. If you're looking for an example of a healthy, supportive, high performance culture, look no further than the era in Australian netball that saw a Commonwealth Games victory, world championship wins and a stack of other victories over Lisa's nine-year coaching stint. The Australian Diamonds were ranked number one in the world at the time she departed as head coach. There's a reason why Lisa was named 2015 coach of the year, and in this episode, Andy and Louise chat with Lisa not only about why it's so important to have good people around you, but what that looks like in the real world.Lisa Alexander is currently head of high performance and assistant coach for the London Pulse. For more resources and show notes please visit www.reframeofmind.com.au Get bonus content on PatreonSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/reframe-of-mind. Our Great Coach on this episode is Lisa Alexander. Lisa Alexander was the coach of the Australian Netball team, known as the Diamonds, from 2011 to 2020. Her coaching journey started in country Victoria, before she progressed to coach the Melbourne Phoenix in the nationalcompetition, taking the team to two title wins in 2002 and 2003. She was appointed head coach of the Australian U21 netball team in 2006. And then in 2011, she was named as the head coach of the Australia national netball team taking over from the legendary Norma Plummer. She then went on to coach the National team for 102 matches; winning 83 of those games. She oversaw gold medal successes at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and 2015 Netball World Cup, as well as silver medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2019 Netball World Cup. Lisa is an articulate and passionate coach; who speaks candidly about the issues propelling elite performance. She has high expectations and standards and you will hear here talk about this in the context of team culture; and the “sisters in arms” trademark that she introduced. Other highlights of the discussion for me included: · Expecting her players to not only become leaders on the court but also aspiring to be a Prime Minister off the court · How google look for employees with coaching experience · And how coaches csocializing with athletes can create problems within the team. It is a great conversation with Lisa, and at the end of it I felt confident that we would be seeing her transition into coaching other sports in the near future. I hope you enjoy it. We're halfway through the 2021 season and former Aussie Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander joins us to discuss all things Super Netball. While some teams are starting to fatigue and struggling with consistency, the West Coast Fever show no signs of slowing down. The team are still undefeated seven rounds in, and are certainly the team to beat right now — despite more rumblings within the netball community about whether their salary cap sanctions were harsh enough.Bold coaching decisions, the psychological effect of interstate players playing at home and league expansion are also on the agenda.

Hey hey! Welcome back. Bear with us this week, Nicolette's away so we had to attempt a Zoom episode. We tried, okay? First off the bat, Ailish dives into a chat about the importance of representation in the arts, after the talented and diverse cast of the Australian Hamilton was announced. She references this Junkee article by Rashna Farrukh that has some great quotes, as well as this opinion piece by Devi Ruia for Pitt News. Bella takes us into the world of sport and females throwing their hats in the ring to be a head coach of a male dominated sport. It stemmed from former national netball coach Lisa Alexander's application for the vacant North Melbourne AFL coaching position. Bella is a gun at all things sports discourse, so she helps the other girls along the way. They reference this great article by Kasey Symons for The Guardian, and here's a few others from ABC News, The Australian and News.com. Nicolette brings a juicy topic to the table — single women using sperm donors to have children. It's a wild ride and a super interesting chat. Have a read of this personal essay Alexandra Collier wrote for The Sydney Morning Herald. Plus we recommend two uplifting podcasts, a serious article from Mamamia and a new album. Thanks for listening, we'll be in your ears again next week! Connect with the podcast on Instagram and follow us on TikTok. You can find Bella, Nicolette and Ailish on Instagram too.
A terrifying experience speaking in front of her first class was the start of Lisa Alexander's RVC journey as an Adjunct Composition Instructor. What it became is a lifetime of fond memories, friendships, and family connections. We learn about the most memorable student paper she's ever read, her favorite forms of writing, and authors she most admires.
Our Great Coach on this episode is Lisa Alexander. Lisa Alexander was the coach of the Australian Netball team, known as the Diamonds, from 2011 to 2020. She finished her tenure with an 81% winning record. Her coaching journey started in country Victoria, before she progressed to coach the Melbourne Phoenix in the national competition, taking the team to two title wins in 2002 and 2003. She was appointed head coach of the Australian U21 netball team in 2006. Lisa coached the Australian National team for 102 matches; winning 83 of those games. Other highlights of the discussion for me included: Expecting her players to not only become leaders on the court but also aspiring to be a Prime Minister off the court How google look for employees with coaching experience And how coaches csocializing with athletes can create problems within the team.
