Today is a round up episode from our visit to the 2024 Emergency Services ShowIn todays episode i speak with John Lord & Robbie Burns about snowmed codes. All NHS healthcare providers in England must now use SNOMED CT for capturing clinical terms within electronic patient record systems. Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales also have programmes of work underway. After thoroughly reviewing the available scientific literature, the World Health Organisation's International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified occupational exposure as a firefighter as carcinogenic to humans (Group 1), on the basis of sufficient evidence for cancer in humans. This is supported by an ever-increasing raft of research, including the biomonitoring research study of UK firefighters, conducted by Professor Anna Stec and her team at the University of Central Lancashire and Lancashire Teaching Hospital. This work was commissioned by the Fire Brigades Union. It has been identified that regular health monitoring and early detection can play a vital role in protecting the health and lives of firefighters. Tactical Firefighting UK is an informal group recently set up hoping to link every UK FRS together and allow for collaboration and knowledge sharing through individuals responsible for BA training delivery. One example of this is the BE-SAHF model, an internationally recognised method of 'reading the fire' adopted by some fire services which Lewis White and Dave Berry will discuss. This conversation delves into the evolution and importance of tactical firefighting in the UK, focusing on the collaborative efforts among firefighters to enhance training and situational awareness. Pete, Dave & Lewis discuss the B-SAHF model, which serves as a mnemonic for situational awareness, and explore various aspects of firefighting, including the significance of networking, the role of breathing apparatus, and the dynamics of heat and flame. The discussion emphasizes the need for continuous learning and adaptation in firefighting practices to improve safety and effectiveness.Key Takeaways-Tactical firefighting in the UK is a collaborative effort.-Networking is crucial for sharing knowledge and best practices.-The B-SAHF model enhances situational awareness for firefighters.-Understanding environmental factors is key to effective firefighting.-Smoke serves as a precursor to fire and should be treated with caution.-Controlling the flow path is essential for firefighter safety.-Thermal imaging is a valuable tool for assessing fire conditions.-Heat release rate is a critical factor in fire dynamics.-Firefighters must adapt to changing materials and their combustion properties.-Continuous learning is vital for improving firefighting techniques.Find out more about BE-SAHF HEREWe only feature the latest 200 episodes of the podcast on public platforms so to access our podcast LIBRARY, every Debrief & document CLICK HEREPODCAST GIFT - Get your FREE subscription to essential Firefighting publications HEREA big thanks to our partners for supporting this episode.GORE-TEX Professional ClothingMSA The Safety CompanyPATROL STORE UKIDEXHAIX FootwearGRENADERIP INTO Podcast ApparelLyfe Linez - Get Functional Hydration FUEL for FIREFIGHTERS, Clean no sugar for daily hydration. 80% of people live dehydrated and for firefighters this costHibern8 - a plant based sleep aid specially designed to promote a restful night's sleep and awaken you feeling refreshed and energisedPlease support the podcast and its future by clicking HERE and joining our Patreon Crew
Today's podcast with Thomas Dedering revolves around the topic of firefighters' exposure to toxic fire effluents and the need for protective clothing. We discuss common misconceptions, the gap in the market for protective solutions, and the role of organizations like the Swedish Firefighters Cancer Foundation. We also delve into the testing and technology behind the CPP undergarment, which uses activated carbon to absorb hazardous fire gases. We explore the application of this protective clothing in the fire and rescue service and the importance of protecting vulnerable groups. We also discuss the effectiveness of a protective undergarment for firefighters that can reduce exposure to toxic fire effluents. The undergarment is made with activated carbon and is designed to capture and retain harmful substances. We also touch on the challenges of purchasing and distributing the undergarment, particularly for UK services. The potential for collaboration with turnout gear manufacturers, as well as the importance of proper washing and decontamination processes. You can find out more information HEREWe only feature the latest 200 episodes of the podcast on public platforms so to access our podcast LIBRARY, every Debrief & document CLICK HEREPODCAST GIFT - Get your FREE subscription to essential Firefighting publications HEREA big thanks to our partners for supporting this episode.GORE-TEX Professional ClothingMSA The Safety CompanyPATROL STORE UKIDEXHAIX FootwearGRENADERIP INTO Podcast ApparelLyfe Linez - Get Functional Hydration FUEL for FIREFIGHTERS, Clean no sugar for daily hydration. 80% of people live dehydrated and for firefighters this costHibern8 - a plant based sleep aid specially designed to promote a restful night's sleep and awaken you feeling refreshed and energisedPlease support the podcast and its future by clicking HERE and joining our Patreon Crew

Visiting New York today to chat with author Holly George-Warren, to talk about her latest book 'Dolly Parton Behind the Seams - My Life in Rhinestones', the backstory about Parton's iconic wardrobe. The two time Grammy nominated writer and former book editor for Rolling Stone Magazine, has written other biographies including "Janis: Her Life and Music' (2019); 'A Man Called Destruction: The Life and Music of Alex Chilton, from Box Tops to Big Star to Backdoor Man' (2014), describes her recent journey of writing and working alongside Dolly, focusing on the iconic country singer's humble beginnings in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where her early fashion sense and unique wardrobe style began. We also catch up on two books she's working on - one about writer Jack Kerouac and the other about country singer Jerry Jeff Walker. This self proclaimed "research nerd" with a true love of music, also describes her special college reunion in Chapel Hill, NC over the summer, at a place she appropriately calls "The Hippie House".
