How to feel energized? It's about changing your mindset and focusing on the things you feel passionately about. Hear insights about: Why external forces and circumstances like the pandemic can make us feel paralyzed or drained of energy, and why mindset is the key to how to feel energized once again How pressures can add up and drain us of positive energy, and how the book “The Answer” by John Assaraf and Murray Smith offers helpful strategies for avoiding burnout Why we can rewire our own belief systems to transform our results, and why it is important to take time to reflect on who we are and what matters to us Erin shares a powerful quote from “The Answer” about strengths, weaknesses, and comparing yourself to others and their successes Why you should go back and listen to episode 59 of the Pursuing Freedom podcast with guest Long Doan and hear his inspiring mindset How Long Doan offered his “seven different styles of success”, and how each of those differs from the others Why leaning into your unique gifts and focusing your energy into your unique style of success is the key to how to feel energized rather than drained by your work How to align your efforts to what excites and motivates you, and how doing so can help you move out of the feeling of being overwhelmed by the chaos Why “just because you can doesn't mean you should”, and why taking stock and reflecting on where you are and where you want to be is crucial for setting priorities How to Feel Energized Let's face it, this past year has been exhausting for all of us. We've never experienced anything like this in our lifetimes, and you might be feeling drained, battered and worn down. Knowing that the busy season is coming probably isn't helping either! In this week's episode of the Pursuing Freedom podcast, I want to share some important tips and strategies for helping you break through the feelings of doubt, fear and exhaustion you might be feeling and get to a place where you feel energized and motivated again. You don't have to feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders! How to Feel Energized Instead of Drained The simple fact is that it's all about mindset. The good news is that you can reprogram your brain to see the world differently! I highly recommend you read the book “The Answer: Grow Any Business, Achieve Financial Freedom, and Live an Extraordinary Life” by John Assaraf and Murray Smith. In it, the authors talk about the neuroscience of mindset and how it can have a dramatic effect on our happiness and success. One key thing you should avoid doing is comparing yourself and your level of success to others. We all have unique strengths and talents that we can tap into to create outstanding results… but your strengths may be different from someone else's, and so comparing your successes to theirs doesn't really tell the full story. Leaning Into YOUR Strengths Something we should all do is take the time to reflect on what makes us us. What are you uniquely good at, and how can you leverage those skills and talents? How can you focus your energy on those things, while minimizing the amount of grinding you have to do in areas you aren't as strong in? There's an art to prioritizing what really matters. And here's a really important lesson — sometimes it's okay to say no! Finding the right focus is critically important for transforming your life and progressing toward your goals. You don't have to do everything right now, either… you can choose to put that great idea on a shelf and look at it again later when you have the time and energy to pursue it. What can you be doing right now that will move the needle forward? Focus on those things, and you'll be able to achieve more by doing less! In the coming weeks, I'll be exploring this topic on the podcast and sharing more tips and strategies to help you scale up your business… without taking on more work than you can handle! Stay tuned! Real Estate Business: What You Will Learn: Long’s journey in the real estate business How the victim vs. victor mindset ties into the current real estate market How to overcome uncertainty and fear of the unknown Long’s approach to actively managing your mindset The importance of routines and habits in your pursuit of success The three different ways that we learn How to work your database and establish who you are in the face of adversity How new agents vs. established agents are responding to the crisis Why we need to be more focused on our relationships than the deals that come from them How Long built a team of over 700 agents in five years Why systems and structure is critical to the success of your real estate business Managing Your Mindset in Real Estate Long Doan is back for another episode of the Pursuing Freedom podcast! If you didn’t get a chance to listen to Long’s first interview with us, check out Episode #59, where he talks about the mindset for success in the real estate business. For those of you who weren’t able to meet Long before, he has an amazing journey to share! Long is originally from Vietnam, and when he moved to the U.S., he spent fifteen years on the mortgage side of our industry. He started Realty Group back in 2009, and it has quickly become the fastest-growing real estate company in Minnesota with over 700 agents in five years. In this episode of Pursuing Freedom, Long teaches us how to actively manage our mindset so we can overcome fear and uncertainty. Overcoming Fear and Uncertainty Anyone in the real estate business today would agree that these are unprecedented times. Uncertainty causes fear, and fear has a massive impact on your mindset! Our mindset controls everything we do, say, or think, so fear can be debilitating, especially in a leadership role. But you have more control than you might think. Anyone can lead when things are going well, but the real leaders shine when they are faced with extreme adversity. Mindset is the key factor in your ability to rise to the occasion, and you have the power to control it. Fear of the unknown is completely normal—it is okay to have fear. But the way you react to fear is what separates you from the pack. Routine and Habits Whether you are in the real estate business or a different line of work, you need to actively manage your mindset in order to hit your goals. We don’t show up and flip a “work mode” switch! We should be the same person at work as we are anywhere else; the ideal version of ourselves that we created. Your routines and habits mold the way you show up in the world, and determination enables you to keep those routines, no matter how many times you fail. By practicing consistency, you can sustain a positive mindset regardless of the challenges you encounter. That is extremely important in times like these, because your network will remember who you are in the face of adversity when this all clears up. Mindset is the key to success in real estate, and Long’s approach to managing it works at any experience level! The further up we go in the tiers of business, the more important the recruiting piece becomes. If we want to keep growing, recruiting has to be a priority. As we grow and scale, recruiting needs to become part of our lead generation system.  A successful recruiting system doesn’t happen overnight, it’s a process that we need to be consistent and focused on so we can weave it into every aspect of our business.  Why is recruiting a paramount skill we need to have over the next few years? What retention mistakes are we making and how can we solve them? In this episode, coaches and business owners Grant Wortman and Long Doan talk about recruiting and how to make it a priority in our businesses.  You have to be unbelievably crystal clear about what you have to offer, where you’re going and where an agent can fit in. -Grant Wortman  Three Things You’ll Learn In This Episode  The Power of a Unique Recruiting Proposition (URP)People need to be aware of where they fit into what we’re doing and what we’re building. If not, whatever offer we give them just won’t be compelling and attractive enough.  How to attract recruits through what matters to themWhen you provide enough value to your recruits, and care about helping them find their purpose and achieve their big why, details like splits and money become secondary.   Why we shouldn’t take people leaving our teams personally Don’t look for people to stay with your team forever, but also be open for them to leave and even come back. Are you a VICTOR? Or a VICTIM? No matter where you came from or what your story may be, anything is possible with the right mindset. When Long Doan was 13 years old, he was smuggled out of Vietnam on a fishing boat. His chances of making it to the US alive were less than 50%. But he made the decision to take responsibility for his life, make the most of the opportunity he was given, and do everything in his power to help others. Today, Long serves as the Founder and CEO of Realty Group, the #1 brokerage in the state of Minnesota. With more than 25 years in the real estate industry, he has grown Realty Group from zero to 450-plus agents. Long and his business partner, Mike Bernier, treat every agent as the CEO of their own business, reinventing the brokerage model as an education, development and operations center for realtors. On this episode of Founders Club, Long joins Oliver to share his harrowing journey from Vietnam to the US and explain what that experience taught him about the power of mindset. During Episode 87 of The HyperFast Agent Podcast, host Keri Shull speaks with Mike Bernier about shifting your mindset to start treating your business like a business. He shares the critical changes he made to get past burnout and to start thinking like a real CEO. This episode will help you think about operating at a higher level to achieve higher-level growth.   Episode Highlights:  Mike Bernier's career followed a progression from being a solo agent to a top producer to a team leader to a broker. He spent many years trying to do it all himself and it destroyed his life. It can feel like the more successful you get, the harder it is to have a life. Making that transition from conducting business to owning a business is a place that most of us never really get to because we can't let go. He formed a new business, Realty Group, with partner Long Doan. They started by thinking about how they could help other people in their businesses. Their team now includes 425 agents. He stopped thinking like a revenue generator and started thinking like a CEO. Thinking like a CEO involves thinking about how to duplicate and replicate processes and how to focus on operations instead of transactions. Shifting his mindset did not happen overnight. Running a business like a business means revenue generation is not solely on you. If you look at the profiles of top CEOs, you'll see that the more you scale the less active you have to be.  Ask how you can maximize your revenue generating activities. Ask how you can incorporate vertical integrations. There are five problems you must solve to win at real estate. The first problem is earning a consistent income. The second problem is efficiency. Outsource the things that do not serve you. Time is the ultimate equalizer, so buy back your time. The third problem is scale. The fourth problem is profitability. Many people quit right before they see the return on their investment in people and systems. The fifth problem is creating residual income to replace the business income. Many realtors become stuck on problem two. Successful people approach obstacles from different angles. Mike had to let go of the pursuit of perfection. It's all about the process. In order to grow at a high level, you need to focus on higher level activities. Keep setting goals and pushing past discomfort. Keri describes a moment she had at a Tony Robbins event when she realized she had lost her vision. Part of what will get you re-engaged when you lose your vision is really engaging with your people. 3 Key Points: Mike began thinking like a CEO by focusing on operations instead of transactions. There are five problems you need to solve to be a successful realtor. They are consistent income, efficiency, profitability, scalability, and creating residual income. Let go of the pursuit of perfection and focus on process. He closed 1000 transactions in his first four years a realtor. In 2014 he started Realty Group 2.0, which has 425+ agents. Real estate is a people business. People will work with you because they know and like you. Long shares the story of how he deliberately built his business with a vision. He spent a full year getting to know asset managers in another state. He went from 0-400 properties in six months. He was focused on what he wanted to build, and the foundation he wanted to have. Long has the fastest start in real estate that Keri has ever heard about. Not every path to success is the same. You need to know yourself to know how you will best succeed. Long shares the seven different styles of success. The seven styles are: Hunter, Farmer, Expert, Hyperlocalist, Billboard, Lifestyle, and Tribal.  Maximize your strengths before you work on your weaknesses. He knew he was good at building relationships. He started there knowing he could figure out the rest later. Keri encourages listeners to really assess their strengths. Keri shares how her ability to recognize her strengths and weaknesses has helped her business thrive. She hired to compensate for her weaknesses. Long gives his agents strengths assessments then follows up with a playbook. When you're doing the right activities for your personality, you can double your business. Emotional intelligence can help you fast-track relationships. There are four things you need to know in emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management. Once trust is broken, it is very hard to mend. Long has a system and a process for everything. Long provides advice about hiring and training. If you know someone is weak at something, don't have them do it. Every relationship in your life will benefit when you learn more about EQ. Don't think about commission. Think about helping others. Any time you get the opportunity, ask what you can do for others. 3 Key Points:   Long had an extremely quick start in real estate because he focused on building relationships and trust.   Know your strengths and focus on them.   Cultivate emotional intelligence to improve every relationship in your life. REO offers us amazing opportunities to boost our businesses. What are the benefits of getting involved in REO, and how can we market ourselves in the space? On this episode, experts in short sales and REO, Long Doan, Tim Ray, Jesse Zagorsky and Garrett Pancheri, share why REO is a great option for agents today.    REO gives us an opportunity to put more signs in the ground. The more signs in the ground, the more you’ll be able to scale your business and do it very profitably. -Michael Hellickson   Three Things We Learned From This Episode REO is making a comebackREO today is different from REO in 2008, but it’s still here and still a great place for us to make money. In fact, we’re more likely to get business with REO than with any other type of listing in real estate.  More signs in the ground mean more leads One of the massive benefits of REO is that it allows us to get more signs in the ground. REO is a lead magnet, and the more we can get our names out there on signs, the more business we’ll get.  Market REOs differentlyWhen it comes to REO, detail is everything. We need to go out of our way to market ourselves differently. We need to listen to what people in our markets are saying, and deliver a tailored solution to their problems. Connections are vital in REO, so be sure to connect with as many people as possible, and as deeply as possible.    REO saw a boom in 2008, and it’s unlikely that today’s market will be too similar to what we saw in the wake of the financial crisis. However, REO remains a great place for agents to make a profit, and even if the space is different in today’s market, the opportunities are still endless. REO allows us to get signs in the ground and make more profit than any other space in real estate, so it’s a great idea for agents to get involved. Build connections with other agents in the space, and think outside the box when it comes to marketing. REO offers so many benefits; we need to take advantage of them today.    Guest Bio Long Doan is the Founder of Realty Group, Inc. in Minnesota.  Long Doan has been in the real estate industry for over 25 years. As one of the top 1% of agents in Minnesota and in the country, Long has a proven track record. He is also the Founder and Broker of Realty Group, a full-service real estate brokerage. As one of the fastest-growing real estate companies, Realty Group attracts, promotes, develops, and supports professional real estate agents and brokers.  What You Will Learn: Long’s journey from Vietnam to America on a dangerous fishing boat at age 13 The “victim vs. victor” mentality that Long learned and what led him to discover it The formula Long uses to maximize chances of success Why and how Long got into real estate in the midst of the recession Different kinds of success styles and the mindset Long encourages to help you win more Use of systems and structures to make you the most efficient with your time The “deep” versus “wide” strategy of Long’s company and how he helps other business owners Resources from Long Doan: Website: https://realtygroupmn.com/ Email: long.doan@realtygroupmn.com Phone: 612-719-3731 From Under a Boat to On Top of The Industry Long Doan is a highly successful real estate broker with over 25 years of experience. He is also the founder of Realty Group, the fastest-growing real estate brokerage in Minnesota. By most accounts, he is living the dream. But it wasn’t always this way. Long’s story begins at eight years old when he saw his father taken away to a political prison in their home country of Vietnam. He didn’t see his father again until he was 32 years old. At 13, Long began the long and treacherous journey across the ocean to America.  Long was smuggled out of Vietnam, with a boatload of others, crammed under the deck of a fishing boat with no bathrooms in sight. After 2 unsuccessful attempts, Long was able to get out of the refugee camp known as “Hell Island” and get to the United States, where he found solace in the home of his aunt and uncle. He credits his perseverance to adopting a “victor” mindset, recognizing that despite the obstacles, he had the grit to make it through and was finally being rewarded. Long reminds us all of how to control our own destinies and how important it is to surround ourselves with people who can be there for us during hardship. Realty Groups Long and his partner started their real estate brokerage, Realty Group, in the hopes of helping people, giving back, and being the kind of brokerage they wished they’d had when starting out. Each broker is treated like the CEO of their own company using Realty Group’s “plug and play” partnership model. Realty Group provides coaching and mentorship to its brokers to address problems and help them to achieve a consistent income. They help their agents turn real estate into a career, rather than just a job.  Long emphasizes how important it is to recognize your success style and play to your strengths. Some with the success style of “the hunter” might be exceptional at cold calling, while others might be bad at cold calling but good at cultivating existing relationships. Long recommends systematizing as many things as possible to increase time efficiency, as time is a finite resource that we all have the same amount of. On top of all this, Long stresses his “win or learn” mentality. We will all encounter failures; the important part is using them to learn, grow, and increase your chances of success next time. Thanks to his winning mindset and tactics, Long and his team have turned Realty Group into the fastest-growing brokerage in Minnesota, with plans to expand around the Midwest and eventually nationally. The company’s strategy of going deep in Minnesota versus going wide across several states has helped establish Realty Group’s reputation and client base. The brokerage will continue to grow in leaps and bounds, and I’m certain that Long’s wisdom will help you and your businesses do the same.

Who says midwifery and real estate have nothing in common? For Seattle-based broker Mel Parsons, her background and abilities as a midwife helped her carve out a niche for herself in the real estate industry. She’s now managing an incredible real estate team with a GCI of $865,000 in 2018!  She couldn’t even believe that only six years ago, she experienced collecting food stamps, babysitting other people’s kids during summer, and figuring out other resourceful ways to live out of very little money. When they lost their third baby, her pain and grief made her despise other women who successfully gave birth. But they were also struggling financially, so she evaluated herself and thought about what other things she could do with her capabilities. For someone who didn’t even have any value of homeownership back then and could hardly pay their rent, she tried her luck in real estate and took her licensing exam in 2015. From then on, she jumped in on every opportunity she could get to learn from the geniuses in the industry.  And with her genuine and nurturing personality, she’s continuously growing her business through providing a high-touch service with their clients. Join us as Mel gives a glimpse of her wonderful but also painful journey as a midwife, how she transitioned into real estate, and the great people she looks up to who help her pave the way to success, of which she is really proud of.    Mentions   Parsons Team Seattle - https://www.parsonsteamseattle.com/ Kelly Tadlock - https://kellytadlock.com/  Cheri Benjamin - https://www.linkedin.com/in/cheri-benjamin-945bb8115 Club Wealth - https://clubwealth.com/  Lab Coat Agents - https://www.labcoatagents.com/ Misti Bruton - https://www.rags2richessuccessstories.com/podcasts/astonishing-rags-to-riches-episode-3-misti-bruton Keri Shull - https://kerishull.com/ Mike Cuevas, “Real Estate Marketing Dude” - https://www.realestatemarketingdude.com/mike-cuevas/  Brittiny Howard - https://www.rags2richessuccessstories.com/podcasts/astonishing-rags-to-riches-episode-5-brittiny-howard Ron Anderson - https://www.linkedin.com/in/ronanderson27 Michael Hellickson, Club Wealth - https://clubwealth.com/michael-hellickson/ Ruth Krishnan - https://ruthkrishnan.com/about/  Long Doan - https://realtygroupmn.com/coon-rapids-team/long-doan-licensed-real-estate-agent    Tech Partners;    Ylopo - https://www.ylopo.com/ (Lead Gen, Lead Nurture, Lead Follow Up)   Show Sponsors;    Ylopo -  The Future of Real Estate  Tech - https://www.ylopo.com Lab Coat Agents - The  #1 Facebook Real Estate Group to learn how to grow your real estate business -  https://www.facebook.com/groups/labcoatagents/

Anytime a new model disrupts the real estate industry, agents and business owners feel threatened. The latest model to do this is iBuyers. How does the model work, and how is it solving the pain points of home sellers? Are there any opportunities for real estate agents within this model? What is the long-term strategy of models like iBuyer? On this episode, we are joined by Long Doan to talk about why we shouldn’t feel threatened by the iBuyer business model.     You are the CEO of your own company, and there are only 3 activities you should be doing. Innovation, quantification and orchestration. -Long Doan   Resources:  - Join the Club Wealth Real Estate Agent Mastermind Facebook Group - Get info on the Listing Agent Boot Camp, April 24th - 27th in San Antonio, TX    Three Things We Learned From This Episode How the iBuyer model actually works The iBuyer concept has actually been around forever. It’s just real estate investors going in to offer cash to buy a home but using more technology to do it. An iBuyer is a real estate investor that uses a proprietary model to come up with a value so they can make a cash offer within minutes to buy the home and close quickly. The pain points iBuyers are solvingiBuyer programs are succeeding because they are solving the pain points of sellers. One of the biggest of these is that some real estate agents just aren’t good, and the iBuyers allow sellers to skip the process of working with an agent. The other pain points are the various hassles and stressors that sellers deal with during the transaction. What business owners should be focusing onThere are three things every business owner should be doing. Innovation is learning everything you need to know to grow your business and implementing it. Quantification is tracking and documenting everything. The third thing is orchestration, which is putting people, systems and processes in place to run our businesses well.     As the market shifts and changes, we’re going to see a lot more iBuyer programs. As business leaders we can either feel threatened into inaction, or we can try to find the opportunities. The truth is, iBuyers still need to work with agents in many ways, and that means we can partner up with them to our benefit. If we’re really good at providing value, we’ll always come out on top.   Guest Bio Long Doan is a real estate coach and broker/CEO of the Long Doan team at RG Realty Group. This may be my favorite episode to date! Long's story exemplifies everything about "It's About More than Real Estate". It's not enough that bad things happen, it's how you greet tragedy, and your rise. After his father was taken as a Political Prisoner of War in Vietnam Long Doan escaped from the country and came up with "choice theory" when he was 14 years old on his first night in a refugee camp, alone.  Long became a self made man through banking and eventually got into REO and went on to start a brokerage, and campaign for the release of his father in Washington DC with people like Senator John McCain. Long's story is compelling, beautifully told, and is all told through the lens of a man with an incredible devotion to optimism. We start with Long as a child growing up in Vietnam and transition into Real Estate, Lending, and REO towards the latter half. Welcome to Season 2!
