Joan Hoyt is a business professional and family woman from Santa Cruz, California. Although she has proudly served her county as a juror before, a 2024 jury duty assignment opened her eyes to the harsh realities of a criminal justice process she would have never thought was real prior. Her assignment included listening to the heartbreaking facts of Madyson Middleton's gruesome 2015 murder, then deeming whether Madyson's murderer should be released from juvenile incarceration in February of 2025, only ten years later. And when the jurors learned this process will occur every two years in perpetuity because of laws placed in effect after Madyson's murder, Joan and her fellow jurors began using all they witnessed as fuel towards making legal change. The Broken Cycle Media team is so deeply grateful Joan was willing to share her unique perspective with us today, and that she continues to fight for justice for Madyson and so many others. This episode is dedicated in loving memory of Madyson Middleton. Sources: California Supreme Court Upholds Law Protecting 14–15-Year-Olds from Transfer to Adult Court. (2022, July 27). October 8, 2009. Latimer County, Oklahoma. 44-year old Bobby Jamison, his 40-year old wife, Sherilynn Jamison, and their six-year old daughter, Madyson Jamison, leave their home to go look at a plot of land in a remote mountainous area, but never return. Eight days later, their abandoned pick-up truck is discovered on a dirt road located thirty miles from their residence, but even though the family's dog and many of their personal items are locked inside the truck and a bag containing $32,000 is hidden under the driver's seat, the Jamisons are missing. In November 2013, the skeletal remains of Bobby, Sherilynn and Madyson are discovered in a wooded area less than three miles from where their truck had been parked, but since the authorities are unable to determine an exact cause of death, no one knows what actually happened to them. Were the Jamisons killed by an outside party? Could have they have orchestrated a murder-suicide? Did they simply wander off and succumb to the elements? This week's episode of “The Path Went Chilly” explores a truly baffling case involving the disappearance and death of a family which has yet to find a conclusive resolution. The Jamison family, comprised of Bobby Jamison (44), his wife Sherilynn Jamison (40), and their daughter Madyson (6), mysteriously disappeared on or after October 8, 2009. Their remains were discovered four years later in November 2013, raising unanswered questions. No cause of death was determined, and the circumstances surrounding their disappearance remain a mystery. The family, hailing from Eufaula, Oklahoma, was considering the purchase of a 40-acre plot near Red Oak at the time of their vanishing. The investigation revealed perplexing details: 1. Their locked truck was found abandoned with their malnourished dog, Maisie, inside, along with ID cards, wallets, mobile phones, a GPS system, and $32,000 in cash. Notably, the family was not known for carrying large amounts of cash.2. A search effort led to the discovery of the Jamisons' skeletal remains, lying face-down in the mountains, less than three miles from the truck. 3. Surveillance footage from their home revealed the couple's unusual, "trancelike" behavior as they prepared to leave. Reports suggested that Bobby and Sherilyn, both thin and emaciated, may have been involved with crystal meth, though no evidence was found. 4. Leading up to their deaths the couple were paranoid and claiming to witness ghostly visions, the couple spoke of hauntings in their home. In this episode you'll meet your gaylor host, Madyson (they/she), learn how they became a gaylor, what it means to be a part of this community, and why taylor swift being queer matters to them. They break down what it was like to create gaylor content on tik tok, the hate that gaylors get from homophobic swifties, and how connecting and sharing theories with gaylor friends online taught them about their own queerness. Madyson explains how Taylor Swift using historical queer flags, like hairpin drop, in her music has taught mainstream audiences about flagging; One example being how lesbian Youtuber Shannon Beveridge posted a promo for Friend of Dorothy merch explaining what a queer flag is and why we use them, using Dorothea by Taylor Swift as the song playing on the radio. They end the episode by shouting out one of their favorite gaylor creators/theorists/minds, Alice, the creator of Midnights in Wonderland (linked above)! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/iictisat/message

So, I'm back after a bit of a surprise break again. My bad! Anyway, we're back with another true crime case this week, and it's the mystery surrounding the Jamison Family and their strange disappearance. It happened back in 2009 when the family, Bobby, Sherilynn, and daughter Madyson, packed everything up and went in search of some land to build a home upon. Only they never found the land, and they never returned. It wasn't overly surprising to friends that they vanished as the parents, Bobby and Sherilynn, had issues with substance abuse and drugs. They were also into the occult, which, of course is the actual reason for their vanishing. I hope you picked up the sarcasm there... Anywhoo, the theories about their disappearance are vast and varied. And I'll go over all that in the episode! In October 2009, the Jamison family left home to look at a property for sale in a remote area of Red Oak, Oklahoma. They were never seen alive again. Their bodies weren't found until four years later, and the medical examiner could not determine a cause of death for any of them. Theories on what happened to the Jamisons range from murder-suicide, starvation, or drug-related activity to a murder committed by a cult. Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss the disappearance and deaths of 44-year-old Bobby, 40-year-old Sherrilyn, and 6-year-old Madyson Jamison. Their truck was found and what was inside, including Madyson's dog, has perplexed investigators and fueled speculation for years. Madyson loved her dog and would have never left it behind. It looked to investigators as though the Jamisons were forced out of their truck in a hurry. But who was behind it and exactly what happened remains a mystery.
