Send us a message!Welcome back to LNXdance with your Co-Hosts, Marcus & Mari! We are excited to be back and close out our celebration of Hispanic/Latine Heritage Month with the inspiring and beautiful Dr. Rebecca Pizarro! BioSite: https://bio.site/On2PhysicalTherapy Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/on2physicaltherapy/ Website: https://on2physicaltherapy.com/ A NYC native, Dr. Pizarro always danced as part of her culture but her passion for Latin dance exploded when she learned on2 Salsa in high school. From then, Rebecca trained with various NYC instructors which eventually led to her teaching and performing at local and international venues. While working as an engineer by day and teaching, training, and performing by night, Rebecca lived the life of an extreme dancer. This lifestyle, unfortunately, led to multiple injuries.Trying to find a physical therapist with Latin dance experience proved impossible. Rebecca quickly realized that there was no one who understood the movement vocabulary of Latin dancers. Frustrated, Dr. Pizarro decided to study Western dances such as ballet and modern. While useful, this training did not lead to any insights into injury prevention or body maintenance - instead it created new ones.In an effort to better understand the movement mechanics required of Latin dancers that was lacking in the physical therapy world, Rebecca decided to become a doctor of physical therapy. Her background in structural engineering plus extensive years of dancing gave Dr. Pizarro a unique and deeper insight into the biomechanics of Latin dancers. This led her to opening up On2 Physical Therapy - a clinic that understands and serves the unique needs of Latin dancers.Dr. Pizarro holds certifications in:Bachelors of Engineering - The City College of New YorkDoctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) - Hunter CollegeOne80 System Certified PractitionerPilates Certified - Mat Level 1We are so happy to share her story with you.

Crypto-native companies have lacked a stable and secure banking foundation to run their businesses without fear of being shut down by their banking partner. Or even being approved to open a corporate bank account, to begin with. New players have entered the marketplace to close this gap by providing compliant payment services to crypto businesses and crypto services to banks. One super exciting company is Denmark-based Januar. And in this week's episode, we chatted with Januar's Chief Risk & Compliance Officer, Marcus Mølleskov, about why crypto compliance matters and how crypto companies work with AML.Enjoy! Kathryn interviews LMFT Carol Hughes PhD, author of “Home Will Never Be the Same Again: A Guide for Adult Children of Gray Divorce.” Every year in the US, over 600,000 people age 50 years and older file for divorce — and researchers project that by 2030 this number will grow by one third. It has grown so rapidly that sociologists have already coined a term for it — the “gray divorce revolution.” As the divorce rate for older adults soars, so too does the number of adult children who are experiencing parental divorce. Yet, these adult children frequently say that they are the only ones who are aware of what they are going through and that they feel painfully alone. Hughes shares her deep understanding gained during the innumerable hours she's spent with these women and men in her clinical practice. She served for ten years as an Associate Professor of Human Services at Saddleback College and is a two-time Fulbright Scholar. Kathryn also interviews Forbes Columnist & Certified Executive Coach Bonnie Marcus M.Ed, author of “Not Done Yet!: How Women Over 50 Regain Their Confidence and Claim Workplace Power.” Forbes' 50 Over 50 list and Mika Brzezinski's “Know Your Value” initiative are ushering in a much-needed celebration of older women who are shattering age and gender norms. But despite advances made by women in the workplace, pay inequity and underrepresentation in top positions are still a reality. And, unfortunately, the situation looks worse for older women, who face what Marcus calls “the double whammy of gendered ageism.” In her new book, she lays out assumptions and fears about aging that are holding women back, provides tips and exercises to stop staying small and proves to women that they can keep their jobs, advance their careers and do the work they love. Marcus is a certified executive coach, founder of Women's Success Coaching, and has been featured in WSJ, Business Insider, Huff Post, Fortune, Fast Company, Reader's Digest, Psychology Today and Crains NY.

Daniel Tapia is a life-long resident of Uptown New Orleans. When he was 11 he started working to support himself and his family, and like many others in his community, selling drugs was one of the few opportunities he had to make money. In 2005 he was wrongfully convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to life without the possiblity of parole. Prior to his transfer to a state correctional facility he survived Hurricaine Katrina and the subsequent flooding while in the custody of Orleans Parish Prison. As is the case for many people in prison serving life without parole sentences Daniel did not have access to educational programming, but he never gave up. Finally the opportunity presented itself and he began studying business management through independent and long distance studies at Louisiana State University where he maintained a 3.0 grade point average. He also completed a certification program through Penn Foster Career School for automobile repair. After years of appeals, Daniel was finally offered a new trial, and after 12 years in prison was finally relased. When he first came home, he was rejected from numerous jobs and housing opportunities because of his felony record. However, just as he did with his education in prison, and his pursuit of a new trial, he never gave up. In the year after his release Daniel secured gainful employment, a stable place to live, he is a father, and he is Lead Mentor at RisingFoundations - where he is able to pursue his passion of guiding other men and women in changing themselves, their communities, and the circumstances around them. Marcus M. Kondkar joined the Loyola Sociology Department in 2000 and now serves as Chair. His teaching and research interests include criminology, sociology of law, and sociological theory. He has published his work in the American Journal of Public Health, Legal Systems of the World, Social Justice, and The Sociology of Katrina: Perspectives on a Modern Catastrophe. He is currently conducting research on three grant-funded projects: one on prisoner reentry best practices (USDOJ), a second on youth mentoring and gun violence (USDOJ), and a third on prison sentencing patterns in Louisiana (Vital Projects Fund). Other recent projects have included a geospatial study of the relationship between incarceration and neighborhood violence, and a study on sexual coercion and partner violence among college students.Since coming to Loyola Dr. Kondkar has received the University Senate Excellence in Teaching Award and the Marquette Research Fellowship. He has also served as Chair of Women’s Studies. We will be discussing the effect of what Dr. Kondkar calls the “corrections turnstile” - neighborhood turnover due to incarceration and reentry - on homicide patterns in New Orleans neighborhoods. Using geo-coded homicide data and residential addresses for every corrections admission and release from 2000 to 2015, Dr. Kondkar has demonstrated the very strong relationship between correctional turnover and violence, particularly homicide. In addition to the documented destabilizing effects on family bonds and community networks, elevated turnover rates foster continuous, often violent, contests for power at the neighborhood level.
