Tony Gerard was into cryptozoology before it was cool. He voraciously read everything he could about the Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot as a kid. He listened attentively as local old-timers told of black panthers roaming the hills and swamps of western Kentucky and southern Illinois where he grew up.His interest in the natural world led him to pursue a degree in biology and later an advanced degree in zoology. For a number of years, he was an investigator with the Bigfoot Field Researcher's Organization (before being kicked out by Matt Moneymaker).In addition to natural history, Gerard has an avid interest in the North American frontier of the 18th and 19th centuries. He began 18th-century historical re-enactment as a hobby in the early 1980s, which led to his being selected as a core extra for the motion picture "Last of the Mohicans." This, in turn, led to working on many other historical films and documentaries.Later, he worked in front and behind the camera on all seasons of The History Channel's series "Monsterquest." The producer of "Monster from the Big Muddy" recently described Gerard as "one of the most open-minded skeptics I've ever met." Traveling extensively, Gerard is always interested to learn of lesser-known cryptids such as Hulikurka, the mystery cat of the western Ghats mountains of India, or Belbeliknek, the flipping snake of the highlands of Luzon, Philippines.Currently, Gerard teaches biology and earth science courses at Shawnee College in southern Illinois.

It's time for Paranormal Tuesday!

This episode I speak with Eric Altman about The Mounain Devils, strange bigfoot encounters, and his research in Cryptozoology and the paranormal. In 1997, after attending a Bigfoot Conference in Ohio, Eric decided to begin investigating claims and reports of Bigfoot sightings in Pennsylvania.  He formed the Southwestern Pennsylvania Bigfoot Study Group and became a volunteer field researcher for the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization- the BFRO. He was soon appointed to be the point of contact for Pennsylvania by Matt Moneymaker. In early 1999 he became a member of the Pennsylvania Bigfoot Society. Then in 2000, Eric was appointed the Director of the PA Bigfoot Society. In May 2016, he founded and became the director of the Pennsylvania Cryptozoology Society, a new group of volunteers investigating strange animal and cryptid cases in Pennsylvania and surrounding states.   Aside from Pennsylvania, Eric has traveled to other states around the country investigating claims of Bigfoot sightings and activity.  Those states include Ohio, New York, Maryland, West Virginia, Texas, California, Oregon and Washington State.  Erics Links Website

Andrea Perron is the author of "House of Darkness House of Light", a supernatural trilogy which is the true story behind the 2013 feature film "The Conjuring". In her frequent travels, she lectures about spirituality, metaphysics and all phenomena considered paranormal, concentrating her research in Ufology, a lifelong curiosity and fascination.Our family lived among the dead for nearly a decade. There we all came to understand that we are not alone, and there is something beyond our mortal existence. Returning to Rhode Island, we were there only a few weeks before relocating to Georgia, long enough to pack and say goodbye. It was over.

At 9:00 pm, Eric and Marie welcome Musician Walter Shrum and local TV Personality and star of Fright Night Theatre, Harry A. Metz. Walt the Music Man is a Uniontown singer/songwriter's who's inspiration to sing a song about Bigfoot has inspired an entire album dedicated to those who hunt the legendary beast of debatable mythology. Walter Shrum has been writing and singing songs for 20 years and even turned his attic into a makeshift recording studio, but a bit of inspiration took him down an unusual songwriting path. It was something about Bigfoot — a.k.a Sasquatch, Yeti, Hairy Stinka Boo, Skunk Ape, Momo and Windego — that Shrum was looking into that caused him to come up with a song and contact his friend and local television personality Harry Metz to shoot a music video to the song “Searching For Bigfoot.” The song's music video, which can be found on YouTube under “Searching for Bigfoot Music Video,” features areas like the Brownsville Drive-In and the Route 40 Diner. The video scored more than 8,000 hits on YouTube, but one of those hits came from Rick Dyer, a Bigfoot hunter who has gained national attention over the years and who shared the music video on his website. The 21-song CD titled “Tribute to the Stars of Bigfoot” not only mentions up to 25 of those Bigfoot hunters who have gained national press and have their own shows, but also includes autographs from them on the CD case, including Rick Dyer, Derek Randles, Biff Burke, Dallas Gilbert, Justin Smeja, Stacy Brown, Tammy Murray, Michael Merchant. Others cited include Matt Moneymaker, Cliff Barackman, James “Bobo” Fay and Ranae Holland from the television show “Finding Bigfoot,” and Beyond The Edge Radio Host and Bigfoot Hunter Eric Altman. Shrum said he plans on shopping his songs to local radio stations and is trying to get the album in mom and pop stores in the area. The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Matt Moneymaker of Animal Planet's Finding Bigfoot. In the season premiere, Bigfoot Field Research Organization (BFRO) president Matt Moneymaker, researchers James “Bobo” Fay and Cliff Barackman and skeptical scientist Ranae Holland are called to North Carolina by an Appalachian family that reports generations of sightings on their property. A packed town hall exposes an abundance of stories along the notoriously squatchy Appalachian Trail. With too much ground to cover, the team calls for backup. Bolstered by the support of the team's family and friends including Ranae's cousin, Cliff's brother, Matt's son and Bobo's bestie, the group deploys to four hotspots in an effort to find proof of their elusive adversaries. With the possibility of a sasquatch in their midst, the group of eight descends on one final location, hoping to lay eyes on an Appalachian Sasquatch. This season the team pushes further then they ever have before, when they return to America's Four Corners to re-investigate Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico after extreme weather thwarted their first attempt. Besides America's southwest they also journey to Arkansas, California, Wisconsin, Iowa and Tennessee for deeper explorations into these squatchy states. Plus, a small 400-person town in Minnesota declares itself “home of Bigfoot” and claim that proves true when several night investigations turns up multiple forms of evidence and a packed town hall, which surfaces the best lead of all: a two day old sighting and a footprint cast. The team leaves the mainland to take a break from sasquatching to look for the Menehune or little foot that is said to roam the Hawaiian Islands.

Our next contestant in the search for a new Co-Host Contest is my nephew Joshua Brinker. Josh joins me in welcoming our good friend Cliff Barackman back to BTE Radio for another rousing discussion on our favorite Cryptid, Bigfoot. We'll be talking with Cliff about his 25 year career as a Sasquatch researcher, the show Finding Bigfoot and we'll find out from Cliff what he's been up to. This Sunday night Cliff Barackman returns to BTE Radio. About Cliff Cliff as a PersonCliff was born and raised in Long Beach, California. Throughout his youth, his interests were drawn towards both the physical and biological sciences, as well as to music. These interests later brought him to dabble in a wide variety of sciences in college before later deciding to pursue his degree in Jazz Guitar. Cliff can be heard performing guitar around the Portland area, when he's not busy in the field. Cliff's interest in the sciences drove him to a teaching career where he could share his love and appreciation of the natural world with young people, and particpate in the occasional sing along. While Cliff was navigating his life, his growing interest in the bigfoot phenomena drove him to travel to other parts of the country to look into the mystery. By extensively travelling the West Coast, he found himself unsatisfied with living in Southern California and wanting to live closer to bigfoot habitat. After living in various parts of California and Washington State, he eventually settled in Portland, OR where he lives today. Cliff has been a dedicated sasquatch field researcher for the past two decades. Known throughout the Sasquatch scientific community for his extended expeditions, he has been known to spend over 200 days a year in the field. Over the years he has managed to gather data supporting the hypothesis that sasquatches are an undiscovered species of great ape that walks bipedally and lives in North America. Though finding and documenting data is a goal of Cliff's research, it is not the primary goal. The process of bigfooting is fun! Cliff has appeared in various media outlets over the years in regards to his bigfoot experience. He has written extensively on the subject with his work being featured not only on his own blog, but on other websites as well. He has also been featured in student reports, newspaper articles, video documentaries, and more. In 2007, Cliff was contacted to be on the History Channel's “Monsterquest.” The episode, entitled “Legend of the Hairy Beast,” featured Cliff and fellow bigfoot researcher, James “Bobo” Fay investigating bigfoot sighting reports on the Klamath River in Northern California. Being the first whites to ever be invited to do bigfoot research on the Yurok Indian Reservation, Cliff and Bobo interviewed Native American elders about their experiences with sasquatches. They hired Indian river guides, and made base camp in a cabin with no access other than by river. They also utilized advanced night vision technology to try to film sasquatches at night from a river jet boat. Being well-respected in the bigfoot community and beyond, Cliff is often called upon for comments about bigfoot evidence and research. He was the featured expert in news items broadcast to the Portland, OR and Seattle, WA media markets in regards to the infamous Georgia Bigfoot Hoax of 2008 where he clearly stated that it was a falsification. He has appeared on many internet radio shows, and was also a featured guest on “Coast to Coast with George Noory.” In Spring, 2010, Cliff was asked to accompany Bob Saget on a bigfoot expedition in Northern Washington State. Bob was filming an episode of his A&E series, Strange Days with Bob Saget, where he would partake in an eccentric subculture's way of life for a weekend. Bob and Cliff were filmed discussing the various types of recorded sasquatch vocalizations on record, and Bob walked away very impressed with the evidence. As a parting gift, Cliff gave Bob a copy of the 1982 Grays Harbor, WA footprint cast. Cliff is currently being featured in Animal Planet's new series, Finding Bigfoot. Once again teaming up with colleagues James “Bobo” Fay, Matt Moneymaker, and Ranae Holland, Cliff is traveling the country investigating bigfoot evidence. His expert opinion, level-headed approach, and analytical mind is essential to the team. When numbers need to be extracted for the sake of data analysis, or when a footprint needs to be permanently recorded, he is there to offer his unique skills. Cliff augments the credibility of Finding Bigfoot with his passion for data collection, and his ability to explain complex ideas in simple fashions. Cliff holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from California State University, Long Beach.
