Musa and Ryan begin with a quick shout for LA Galaxy's first MLS Cups in 10 years, after their 2-1 win over New York Red Bulls on the weekend, before heading to Europe, where there are title races aplenty. They begin in Italy (4:14), where Atalanta's 2-1 win over Milan took them top of the table, thanks also to Lazio's win in Naples—and wonder whether this could be the year for Gian Piero Gasperini's side to win their first Scudetto. Next up, Atleti are tiptoeing their way to the top (11:30), as they and Real Madrid closed the gap with Barcelona in La Liga, plus a quick shout for the Bundesliga (15:43). Finally, they chat about the Premier League's stop-start weekend (18:10), when Liverpool sat back and watched a number of their rivals drop points. Chelsea were the only challengers not to do so, winning another chaotic game against Spurs (26:52), this time 4-3. There is also a shout-out for another huge Nottingham Forest result and some chat about the departure of Dan Ashworth as Manchester United sporting director (35:15), after just five months in the role. Eddie Robinson was a Major League Soccer "one club loyalist" having spent his entire career with the same team, in two locations. He began play with the San Jose Earthquakes in 2001 and only changed locations and team names, when the Quakes relocated to Houston and became the Dynamo. Robinson remained with the team through 2011. Along the way, he won four MLS Cups and established himself as one of the league's top defenders. He had the unique situation of playing with Landon Donovan in San Jose, then against him in Houston, when Donovan moved on to the LA Galaxy. Robinson joined Founding Futbol to share his memories of playing with Donovan, then what it was like to face off against him. He shared memories of Donovan's maturity, reflects on how Donovan "saved" MLS before David Beckham did and so much more. Founding Futbol is a year-long exploration of the critical moments that have led to soccer's emerging popularity in America. Founding Futbol is a year-long exploration of the critical moments that have led to soccer's emerging popularity in America. Before there was Beckham or Messi coming to America to play for Major League Soccer Franchises, there was Pelé and his stint with the New York Cosmos. From 1975-1977 the world's most recognized footballer spent the twilight of his career helping this country fall in love with the beautiful game.  His time playing in the North American Soccer League (NASL) provided a blueprint for what success could look like for the sport in this country. It boosted the NASL to previously unseen heights. Unfortunately, Pelé's (second) retirement also showed the continued vulnerability of America's top flight professional league. This episode explores the many layers of his time in New York and it's long-term impact on the game in the US. Our guest on this episode is Front Row Soccer editor Michael Lewis; he has covered 13 World Cups (eight men, five women), seven Olympics and 25 MLS Cups. He has written about New York City FC, New York Cosmos, the New York Red Bulls and both U.S. national teams for Newsday and has penned a soccer history column for the Guardian.com. He also was the soccer columnist for the New York Daily News for 22 years. Lewis, who has been honored by the Press Club of Long Island, New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists and United Soccer Coaches (formerly National Soccer Coaches Association of America), is the former editor of BigAppleSoccer.com. He has written nine books about the beautiful game and has published ALIVE AND KICKING The incredible but true story of the Rochester Lancers. He is also a member of four Halls of Fame, including the Eastern New York Soccer Hall and Long Island Soccer Football League Soccer Hall. First, the guys will bring you the latest in the training moratorium and tell you what their thoughts are on a round-robin, World Cup-type group setting for a shortened MLS season. And they once again approach the subject of moving all the teams to one place to play games behind-closed-doors. Would a game without fans seem weird? Or would anything at this point be better than nothing? The guys will also get you updated on voting for the Best LA Galaxy team ever, and how you can help settle the debate. But the real important part of this show comes from a true Galaxy favorite. So when Sean Franklin calls in from his house, it's an entertaining reunion and a chance to reminisce about the old days, talk about what made some very successful Galaxy team successful, and to hear from a man who was a star at his position. It's another packed show coming to you from the spare bedrooms and quiet rooms of all of our hosts and their guests! Won't you join us?!

On today's show, your hosts Josh Guesman and Eric Vieira are getting you updated on what little MLS news there is. And while the only thing that changed was just a more extended break on training, it's still some important news that you shouldn't be missing. The guys will talk about the first case of the coronavirus in the professional soccer pyramid in the United States, and why it's only a matter of time before MLS is announcing its first case. But the majority of the show is spent talking about magnetic schedules, flip-flops, and some of the greatest Galaxy games we've ever witnessed. Josh and Eric will discuss their most memorable Galaxy games - some are definitely MLS Cups - and what it was like in the locker room after the 2012 victory. There is a lot of storytelling in this episode, and we think that will help you make some decisions on which Galaxy team is the best. And if you haven't already voted in our bracket, make sure you do that. We've got another packed show, even when there's no new news to talk about. But it's about 45-minutes of distraction to get you through another day at home (or at work. Maybe you're essential. I mean, you're all essential listeners to us!). Stay Home, Stay Safe, Wash Your Hands, and Don't Hurt Your Pelvis!

CoG Studios, CA - The LA Galaxy didn't lose to the Philadelphia Union. So in a lot of ways, that's a step in the right direction. But for the Galaxy, a team with five MLS Cups, it can't be anywhere near good enough. On tonight's show, your hosts, CoG's Josh Guesman and LA Times Soccer Writer Kevin Baxter, take a look back and that optically oppressing game and tell you what they learned. Did the formation change work? And did João Pedro show some significant improvement? Was the formation too defensive? Why didn't the offense get going? And where are Giovani dos Santos and Jermaine Jones supposed to be playing? Plus, your hosts will discuss whether or not the Galaxy have already abandoned their "LA Galaxy II is our Future" plan when they went out and signed Jack McInerney. It certainly sent a shot across the bow for some of the younger players. But the big questions will be around Curt Onalfo and whether or not he has survived the storm. Did he do enough against the Union to secure his job for the foreseeable future? Did his formation change show enough initiative to see him around for several more weeks? Did the players' attitudes improve in this game? Has he still lost the team? We'll answer a bunch of these question and a bunch more of your excellent and insightful tweets and emails in a quick 60-minutes of Galaxy talk tonight. Plus, we're answering your CoG Hotline calls as well. And some of you need to cheer up a bit. Finally, the guys will discuss the upcoming four-game road trip that will start as soon as they're done with their three-game homestand against the Chicago Fire. Will Juninho get a warm welcome back in SoCal? We hope you enjoy the show. Tell your friends! Tell your enemies! Tell your parents! And thanks for talk Galaxy soccer with us! The following is an adaptation of 'Twas the night before Christmas. The audio version has been recorded by Josh Guesman. 'Twas the night before Christmas, When all through the house not a kit-man was stirring, not even a mouse. The boots were hung by the locker with care, in hopes that Bruce Arena soon would be there. The players were nestled all snug in their beds while visions of MLS Cups danced in their heads. And Coach Dave in his sweater and Cozmo in his taco had just scarfed their dinner with a good friend named Nacho. When out on the pitch there arose such a clatter I was sure it was Geiger, his red card a tatter. Away to the bench I flew like a flash, tore off my training top into a 40 yard dash. The moon on the lines of newly striped grass gave the illusion of game night to supporters en masse. When, what to my wondering eyes should I see, But a larger than life Coach, he’s way smarter than me. With a little old gaffer so sarcastic and fine, I knew it was Arena and not Noonan nor Klein. More Rapids than Colorado his players they came and he whistled and shouted and cursed them by name: “Now Zardes! Now Gordo! Now, AJ and Leo! On Baggio! On Omar! On Rogers and Gio! To the top of the table! Setup the wall! Keano you’re offside?! You can’t make that call!” As dry mouths before halftime lie When they meet with a defense they run quickly by. So up to the goal mouth the passes they flew, With a counter attack and Coach Arena Too. And then in an announcement, I heard on the speaker the shout of a goal call, the voice it was deeper. “Thank you” he said and was turning around, “You’re welcome” we shouted, no scarf was found down. He was dressed in a suit from his head to his shoes LA Galaxy Colors, 5 stars he would choose. A bundle of balls he had flung on his back, And he yelled out his orders, he’d give you no slack. His rings-how they twinkled! His loafers, how merry! His gait was so Brooklyn, his hand gestures, cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, No beard on his chin, with hair like dirty snow. The stump of a cup he held tight in his hand, Though his constant berating of refs he did land. He had a broad face he wouldn’t blink when he stared at ya. Alone he would pace, inside his technical area. He was sarcastic and plump, a rich jolly old coach And I laughed when I saw him, all your players he’d poach. A wink of his eye and twist of his head Led me to believe if I joked I’d be dead. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, His wind-sprinting youngsters were staying alert. And laying a finger aside of his noes, And giving a shout, up the press box he rose. He sprang to his golf cart, to his team gave a whistle And away they all streaked like a self guided missile. But I heard him exclaim as he cursed out of site, LA Galaxy to all, and we’ve won it 5 times!
