Nicole Maines made history when she joined Season 4 of The CW's Supergirl in 2018 as the first transgender superhero in live-action; Nia Nal, known as Dreamer. Maines has continued her involvement with Dreamer's story since the show ended in 2021, first with stories in the DC Pride anthologies, including penning the introduction for 2022's entry, and further appearances in books such as Superman: Son of Kal-El and Lazarus Planet. Suicide Squad: Dream Team #1 / Maines, Barrows, Ferreira, Lucas, Carey / DC Comics Now, Nicole Maines is back to write more of Dreamer's adventures. Firstly in an ongoing series, Suicide Squad: Dream Team, which sees her joining Task Force X with artist Eddy Barrows. Nia Nal has been searching for an ancient source of Naltorian dream energy. She loses her powers to a hooded robed figure while in a nightmare involving Iris and goes to Central City for help. Iris realizes that her article on the Red Death is the Pulitzer-winning article from the map book, and questions if she's following destiny instead of making her own choices. After Nia and Iris get pulled into a dream, Nia helps Iris realize that destiny is not one choice, but the result of a lifetime of several choices. Iris helps Nia realize that to increase her potential, she needs to give up control. After doing so, Nia meets the spirit of the first Naltorian with dream abilities, who promises to teach her. They wake, and Iris publishes her article. Meanwhile, Mark takes Khione out to do activities that he did with Frost, ignoring all of Khione's ideas. She realizes that Mark still only sees her as Frost and leaves. Later, Mark apologizes to Khione and decides to leave Central City, causing Khione to inadvertently freeze Cecile's banquet out of sadness…BUT THEN...Barry, Iris, and a group of D.O.E. agents inspecting S.T.A.R. Labs get trapped in the speed lab. When Barry notes that a "time magnet" will be stored in the Flash Museum in 2123, the group deduces that one of them must have stolen the magnet from the future without its stabilizer, trapping them in the same moment. As one of the agents is replaced by a statue, the group realizes that exposure to the time magnet will eventually kill them. Barry and Iris realize that Inspector Tao knows nothing about her job and expose her as the thief. She reveals herself as Lady Chronos. Barry charges her belt so she can reunite the magnet with its stabilizer in 2123 and convinces her to let herself be arrested instead of dying. The timeline resets, freeing Barry and Iris and restoring the agents with no memories of the events. Meanwhile, Khione meets with Carla Tannhauser off-screen. After Chester tells Allegra that he loves her, she worries about her future with him. Cecile convinces her that their relationship is not doomed and she later admits her love to Chester.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Nia Nal was born and raised in Parthas. On Parthas humans and aliens live together in peace. She had a happy childhood and loved her hometown but always envisioned herself doing more. She attended college in Washington DC where she wrote speeches for Cat Grant. Nia was going to change people's minds with her words. Ms. Grant sent her to Catco to be mentored by Kara. Nia came to National City at a turbulent time. The Children of Liberty were trying to get aliens out of their town. She is no stranger to the difficulties of being different. She was assigned male at birth but knew with her whole heart and soul that she was meant to be a girl. The universe thought so too. She was bestowed the power to see the future through her dreams. A gift given only to one daughter per generation on Naltor, the planet her mother is from. Nia tragically loses her mother to a spider bite after failing to read the warning signs in her dreams. She has a lot of frustration around losing her mother before learning to harness the full potential of her powers. She is still in the beginning of learning all the abilities bestowed on a Dreamer. Hopefully soon we will see her reach out to her sister. Maeve studied her whole life to become the next Dreamer. Perhaps teaching Nia will help repair the rift in their relationship. This is such a super journey we are on with Nia Nal. Every few episodes we can watch her powers grow and evolve as she becomes more skilled. I have loved watching Kara mentor her and Brainy calm her doubts. When Supergirl leaves us at the end of the season, I hope Dreamer can continue on another show in our universe. I don't want her story to end after only 2 years of making this world a better, more tolerant place. She is a great Superhero and an asset to any team. Making the world better with both words and deeds. She is the transgendered Superhero this community has been dreaming of.

Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with Nicole Maines(@nicoleamaines), actress and transgender rights activist known for playing the first transgender superhero, Nia Nal, on SuperGirl. We chat about where Nicole would be if she was still in welding class, how happy she is to be doing what she loves and the positive fan reaction to her portrayal of Nia Nal. We also discuss more diverse and nuanced representation where LGBTQ characters can be both Gayngels and Demons. From Nicole playing a vampire in Bit to a superhero, she's played both sides of the spectrum and wants to see other characters that explore the gray area in between "good and evil" where people are just people.
