Sheryl Sandberg is one of the most accomplished executives in the tech industry. After attending Harvard University for undergrad and for an MBA, Sheryl's early career included stints at the World Bank and the U.S. Treasury Department in the Clinton Administration, where she served with then-Treasury Secretary Larry Summers. She then joined Google as VP of online sales and operations in 2001, before joining META as COO, where she worked from 2008 to 2022. Today both companies are among the top 10 market cap companies. Sheryl is also an accomplished author: she co-authored "Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead (2013)"; and "Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy" (with Adam Grant, 2017). But since 10/07, Sheryl has been focused on one cause – Israel and the Jewish people. Sheryl has been confronting: Rape Denialism. The last thing she ever said to him was “I'm falling asleep.” In vacationing with friends, Sheryl Sandberg and her husband, Dave, were relaxing on a beach in Mexico. When Sheryl woke up an hour later, Dave was gone. They found Dave collapsed in the hotel workout room. Dave died a short while later at the hospital.

Last week, Sheryl Sandberg announced she is stepping down as chief operating officer at Facebook's parent company Meta. Sandberg oversaw Facebook's spectacular rise to a company that generated $100 billion in revenue each year, but she also had to answer for several scandals involving Facebook. In that sense, it seems that the best way to develop resilience is to go through hardship. However, in the same way that too much muscle mass can put a strain on the heart, I think one can have too much resilience for their own sake. Today, I discuss the idea of the “resilient trauma survivor.” I explain why I think people can have too much resilience. I share how I “do” resilience through overconfidence and unbound optimism. Today I have with me Teresa Gallegos and Dustin Dierenfeldt, the vice-president and president (respectively) of the Kansas chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors. Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) is an organization that provides both short term and long term support to the surviving family members of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. This episode will not be a detailed account of any line of duty deaths, but rather the focus will be on the survivors: the family members and co-workers and their stories of loss. Sheryl Sandberg, Chief Operating Officer of Facebook, is Kirsty Young's castaway. She worked for Google at the beginning of the tech boom before joining Facebook in 2008. Raised in Miami Beach, Florida, she studied economics at Harvard.
