This week we transit the Spring Equinox, the official beginning of spring and a good time to check in on the ambient space guitar. Acoustic or electric, live or sampled, looped or direct, straight up or processed, folk, jazz, or classical — even in the electronic age, the venerable six string guitar continues to make itself indispensable almost everywhere music happens. Guitarists of the Ambient persuasion take it slow, quiet, and spatially expanded, leaving the virtuosic fireworks to their rock brothers and sisters. Occasionally...a heroic rock guitarist like JEFF BECK or BUCKETHEAD will journey to the contemplative side of the instrument just to do something completely different. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, a spacey, twangy, laid-back, subtle, turn-of-the-season journey for ambient guitar — on a program called SIX STRING SPRING. Music is by CHRIS HAUGEN, LISA BELLA DONNA, CLAES NILSSON, CARL WEINGARTEN, BLUE STAR, and TONY GERBER, with PHIL KEAGGY and DREAMHUB. Welcome to The Yellowstone Podcast! Join Stef and Paul each week as they discuss Paramount Network's hit series, Yellowstone and this latest episode, "Desire is All You Need"! L-R: Kelsey Asbille as Monica Long,, Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton on episode 510 of Paramount Network's Yellowstone In this week's edition of The Yellowstone Podcast, Paul and Stef tackle one of Yellowstone's character-driven episodes, diving deep into themes of legacy, modernization, and the ever-present undercurrent of betrayal. As always, spoilers abound, so make sure you're caught up before listening! Key Questions and Highlights The Fate of the Dutton Legacy: Is the herd's move to Texas a sign that the Dutton legacy is no longer bound to Montana? We explore Beth's observations about Texas ranching culture and Rip's surprising willingness to adapt to change. Rip Wheeler's Evolution: From a lone cowboy to a father figure, Rip's growth shines this episode. But what does his talk with Lloyd about fighting really mean, and how far is he willing to go to protect the ranch? Beth's Warpath: With her sharp instincts and unchecked rage, Beth confronts Jamie about John's death and crosses paths with Sarah Atwood. Can Sarah's calculated strategy hold up against Beth's fury? Jamie's Descent: Manipulated or in control? We dissect Jamie's actions, his alliance with Market Equities, and his potential run for governor. What does this mean for the future of the ranch? Kayce's Mission: Kayce's quiet strength emerges as he seeks answers about John's death. What will his investigation uncover, and what will it cost him and his family? Big Themes of the Episode This episode paints a stark picture of modernization versus tradition. Rip speaks of adapting, while Beth remains entrenched in the fight against change, honoring her father's legacy. The juxtaposition between Montana's struggles and Texas's cattle-friendly culture is a fascinating exploration of what the Duttons might become. Text a Message to the ShowToday's guest is Jimmy Graham. Jimmy was a US Navy SEAL and worked for the CIA but one of the most interesting jobs he had, and one that overlaps with law enforcement, is that in both the SEALs and the CIA he trained people in CQB, i.e. Close Quarters Battle, room-clearing, hostage rescue, and room-to-room combat. Jimmy still trains people but now he includes teaching on family relationships, the meaning of manliness, and his Christian faith. These are all lessons that were learned and confirmed in the shoot house. Chris is a great interview because he's got a lifetime of experience wrestling with the ups and downs of first responder behavioral health, both firsthand and as a child of a cop. Text a Message to the ShowThere are two conflicting truisms in law enforcement: one is old and one is new. First, it's stereotypical that cops, when you ask them, don't want their kids to go into the same line of work. Second, it's becoming more and more true that law enforcement families are some of the only reliable places to find applicants for the job. Police work, like firefighting and the military, is becoming a family business and we're seeing more multi-generational law enforcement families. Today we're talking to Kevin Steele, who is part of three generation, 63 year legacy at the Kansas City Kansas Police Department.Music is by Chris Haugen and by Winking Fox MusicHey Chaplain Podcast Episode 088Tags:Police, Career, Cars, Children, Family, Fatherhood, History, Legacy, Lessons, Parenting, Teaching, Kansas City, KansasSupport the Show. Thanks for Listening! Today we're talking to Gregg Dorsett; he has been a guest several times before mostly on compilation episodes, but his first appearance was all the way back in Episode 004. Today he's a captain at KCKPD and part of his job now is getting the patrol officers better equipment than what they've had in the past. He's had a hand in changing things from reports and records to body worn cameras to how the department buys and equips patrol cars. This isn't as glamorous or as hands-on as most of Gregg's career, but that's exactly why I wanted to talk to him. I believe he has successfully made one of the toughest career transitions a hard-charging, hands-on, take action guy can make -- the transition to support and administration.Gregg's Previous interview was in Episode 004.Music is by Chris Haugen and by Winking FoxHey Chaplain Podcast Episode 083Tags:Police, Career, Gear, IT, Leadership, Management, Motor Units, Promotions, Retirement, Supervisors, Kansas City, KansasSupport the Show. Thanks for Listening! Matt Landfair is a cop from a small department in Utah who didn't have the all the training opportunities and networking opportunities available in a larger agency. So he deliberately created his own network. After Matt's name kept popping up on my radar, I just had to ask: How is it that you know everybody and how have you managed to stay in the loop on all the latest trends in law enforcement training? Officers are asked to go investigate all kinds of things that go bump in the night. Spooky houses, hospitals, funeral homes, churches, and cemeteries are all have to be checked out. But at the department that I serve, there are multiple people who believe our headquarters is haunted. It's a old building where you feel the history, with lots of long dark hallways and questionable lighting. I'll be joking around about ghost stories and the smiles will drop from the faces of professional men and women, who suddenly get very serious and say, "No, I've seen things in that building."I asked for a volunteer to give me an example and multiple people nominated Shawn Magee. He's a former SWAT sergeant turned captain in the Investigative Bureau, who now works overnights in one of the spookiest buildings in our city.Music is by Chris Haugen, by Brian Bolger, and by TrackTribeHey Chaplain Podcast Episode 069Tags:Halloween, Career, Detectives, Ghosts, Haunted House, Humor, Paranormal, Police, Police Station, Spooky, Kansas City, KansasSupport the showThanks for Listening! Marriage in law enforcement seems like a doomed subject sometimes. It's difficult so people talk about it as if it's impossible. But I know several long time married, wise and successful couples where one or both have been cops and they prove that it absolutely is possible to survive an LEO career and keep your marriage. So today we're talking to Erica Davis. Erica married a cop… and lived to tell the tale! If fact, I found her teaching classes at a conference about how to provide meaningful help to LEO wives and that inspired me to get an interview with her.Music is by Chris Haugen, by Brian Bolger, and by FSM TeamHey Chaplain Podcast Episode 068Tags:Marriage, Communication, Culture, Dispatchers, Family, Law Enforcement, Police, Priorities, Purposefulness, Relationships, Schedules, Stress, Support, Understanding, Colorado, Kansas Support the showThanks for Listening! In today's interview, Chris gives voice to the deep feelings and burning questions of evolving faith. He describes the deep feelings of loneliness, the loss of identity and the wondering, “How did I get here?” Yet by embracing the mess and letting go of certainty, he unearthed a more beautiful vision of God's love. By sharing his story, Chris reminds us that this journey of evolving faith is simply what honest faith looks like - and invites you to join him on that journey.Read Chris's full Facebook post on our blog here!Learn more about Spirituality Groups or sign up today here!Learn more about one-on-one Spiritual Direction here!
Naturally, I think every cop should listen to every episode of Hey Chaplain. But this one… this is really important. It's about leadership and integrity, corruption and gaslighting… it's a about a type of dishonest supervisor who can destroy the culture of a police department and then walk away looking like the only hero. Warren Wilson calls that character a Münchausen Manager and he wrote an article about it for Police1, which is how I found him. Listen to this episode, read Warren's article, and pass this on so that everyone will have the vocabulary to explain the odd behavior we sometimes see.Resources:Warren's Police1 article: https://www.police1.com/chiefs-sheriffs/articles/how-to-identify-and-combat-munchausen-behavior-at-work-dpTsefxI4k2hL1p3/Hanlon's Razor: "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."Heinlein's Razor: "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity… but don't rule out malice."Music is by Chris Haugen and by Alexander NakaradaHey Chaplain Podcast Episode 067Tags:Police, Career, Character, Corruption, Hiring, Integrity, Leadership, Mental Health, Morale, Principles, Psychology, Recruitment, Service, Standards, Supervisors, Kansas, OklahomaSupport the showThanks for Listening! Ward Jenkins is joining us again. I was wanting to do an episode, not specifically on Internal Affairs, but generally about officer integrity. Ward has a good story on that topic and he was also adjacent to the famous Rampart Corruption Scandal in LA over twenty years ago. So Ward can speak specifically about cops throwing away their career, or worse, for short term gain. There is no greater danger to your career than compromise; this is an area you absolutely have to get right.Music is by Chris Haugen and by Alexander NakaradaHey Chaplain Podcast Episode 066Tags:Police, Accusations, Board of Rights, Career, Compromise, Corruption, Drugs, Ethics, Homeless, Integrity, Internal Affairs, Investigation, Scandal, Rampart, Skid Row, Los Angeles, CaliforniaSupport the showThanks for Listening! “I have only one favor to ask of people: to take care of their stories.” When Mary Kawena Puku'i was born, her grandmother named her the PUNA HELE, the one who would carry their Hawaiian tradition and culture into the future. Not an easy task, since she was born in 1895-- the year Hawaii was overthrown and annexed by the United States! But she rose to the task, working tirelessly her entire life to record Hawaiian language and culture...with magnificent and inspiring results!
