Episode 316: Sean McConnell was born to do this. His parents were working songwriters who helped him get started as a teen in Atlanta. He landed a long-term song publishing deal while still in school at MTSU and earned cuts by Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, Brett Young, and the TV show Nashville. Over 15 recordings - his latest is the lovely and agonizingly honest Skin - McConnell has become a beloved troubadour on the indie folk circuit and an honorary red dirt Texas poet through extensive touring there. Now he's grown as a producer working out of his unique studio in Nolensville. I made a trip down there to interview Sean in his cozy working habitat.
On this episode of The Fred Minnick Show presented by BAXUS, Fred's guest is pitmaster icon Pat Martin. Martin founded Martin's Bar-B-Que Joint in Nolensville, Tennessee, in 2006, focusing on West Tennessee-style whole hog barbecue. During the episode, Fred and Pat pair whiskey with all sorts of barbecue, from wings to brisket, while talking about how Martin got into barbecuing, hogs, the art of making brisket, Marines, candy and more. Along the way, they pair the protein up with Hard Truth Sweet Mash Rye, Jack Daniel's Twice Barreled Rye, Michter's 10 Year Rye, Russell's Reserve 9 Year Barrel Pick, Buffalo Trace Prohibition Collection Spiritus Frumenti and a 28-Year-Old, 162-proof Obtanium Canadian Whiskey. Many paper towels fell victim during the feast. This week on "Sermon Notes," Brian Ball was joined by Campus and Teaching Pastor at The Church at Nolensville, Wade Owens. Picking up right where we left off two weeks ago, the pair continued in our church-wide study of the Chronological Bible with Song of Solomon and Proverbs. Drawing from passages in Song of Solomon, they explore the relationship between marital love as well as the bond between the Christ and His church, highlighting the importance of intimacy, sacrifice, and God's design within marriage. Their discussion of Proverbs brought us the reminder that we must daily choose to pick up our own cross and follow God, choosing to put our trust in him daily. Throughout today's podcast, Brian and Wade provided a deeper look at how wisdom from God can and should impact us on a daily basis. Want to dive even deeper?
