America Will Not Survive as a Nation Unless the People of God Stand Up and Plead for Our Survival - Pray for America MESSAGE SUMMARY: As Americans, we are a privileged people, all of us, to live in a country, relative to the rest of the world, that is privileged. The key element of this privilege” is freedom. However, something has been changing -- we are seeing many of the freedoms and blessings of America changing into curses. For example, our obsession with materialism has put most Americans into the bondage of debt; and our drive to feel happy has led many into the addiction of drugs and alcohol. We must all realize that our freedoms and liberties must be used for Godly purposes, or we will lose our freedoms. As we are told in Psalms 33:12: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!". Today, through our actions, laws, and the cultural revisions of our founding Christian principles, we have told God that we do not want Him around. While God is love, He is, also, justice. Therefore, God has obliged us; and He has done what He said He would do -- God is withdrawing His presence and His protection and holding back His divine wisdom, which has guided us for so many years. God is leaving us to reap the consequences of our focus away from Him and to lives without Him. The signers of the Declaration of Independence began a revolution which started the United States of America. The American Revolution was rooted in the belief that all people, even the King and governmental leaders, are subject to the rule of God and not above the law; and everyone is endowed by God, our Creator, with certain inalienable rights. Many people have tried to deny that America's founders created a country which wove together the idea of self-governance with Christian principles. With God's Ten Commandments as the cornerstone of our Democracy, most Americans and those others living in our country cannot name even three of the Ten Commandments. If a Christian religious context was assumed, by the founders of America and the government based on the Constitution, it seems we have a significant problem in our culture today. Now, it appears, America's focus is to get rid of all things relating America to Christianity, the Bible, or anything that smacks of God – and, pretty much, these efforts to remove God's influence from the public square appear to be succeeding. Today, we must all Pray for America – to carve out a time each day when we, each and every one of us, prays for America. In our prayers, we must confess our sins as individuals and collectively as a country. Additionally, we must pray for our President, Members of Congress, the Supreme Court, and our other leaders and those others in authority. Our Prayers for America should pray for the moral issues of today; blessings and protection for our leaders that are walking the walk of their Christian faith; and for a Spiritual Revival and Awakening in America. We will not survive as a nation unless the people of God stand up before God and plead for the survival of America. Spiritual laws are like the laws of physics – they are absolute unless another force intervenes. Therefore, as America increases its violation of God's laws at an increasing rate, we will face both the implicit and explicit consequences of violating God's laws unless He intervenes – we must pray for God's intervention! Paul instructs us for our prayers in 1 Timothy 2:1-6: “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.". We must make Praying for America and, personally, for its leaders a priority in our lives. If we are praying, then God will show us what to do. Only the intervention of God will change the downward direction of America, and we must ask through our prayers. God has intervened before, and He will do it again. America was built on prayer, as we learn from the writings of Benjamin Franklin, and upon the Christian faith of our founders. Will You pray for America and take responsibility for the survival America and its blessings and freedoms for our country today and for our children and grandchildren in the future?   TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM A CHILD OF GOD. Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God-- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. (Note: During the worship service this last Sunday, we ran into several challenges affecting the quality of both the audio and video recordings. I've done my best to clean things up, but there are still many glitches remaining. Please bear with them as you are able and, Lord willing, we will have things back on track next week. PT) Join Pastor Stuart for the ninth and final lesson in our series, Living on a Prayer. We return one last time to the Gospel According to Matthew 6:7-13 as we examine the idea of . . . "A Fitting End to Our Prayers". In this lesson, we will answer the question, "Why is the phrase 'For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.' in some Bibles, but not in others?" While the issue is somewhat complicated, it can generally be reduced to different views on how to understand the manuscript evidence. Regardless of what view we may take, the phrase in question has definite biblical support and is therefore an appropriate way to end any prayer. Remember, the Lord's Prayer was meant to be a pattern for our prayers . . . not a slavish recitation. The good news of Jesus tells us that God allows us to share in his power, kingdom, and glory. Therefore, we ought to honor God by praying according to the Scriptures.. You can learn more about Westminster Presbyterian Church at https://www.westminsterpca.net. Psalm 119:145-152 - The Word and Prayer

Psalm 119:145-152 is the nineteenth stanza of this psalm, and every line or verse begins with the nineteenth letter of the Hebrew alphabet “QOPH”, in the Hebrew Bible. The writer prayed throughout this entire psalm, but in these verses, he concentrated on prayer and cried out to God day and night. From his experience, we can learn several basic instructions about successful Biblical prayer that will “prime” our hearts to prayerfully seek the LORD! I also suggest that you read good books on prayer by authors such as Elmer Towns, Andrew Murray, E.M. Bounds, and Evelyn Christianson. In verses 145-146, we are reminded that we must pray wholeheartedly. Throughout the Scriptures we are taught that we must seek and obey God with our whole heart. John Bunyan said, "In prayer, it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart". (141:1-2; Rev. 8:3-4). The devotion of the heart is what "ignites" our prayers and enables us to present our requests to the Lord. The phrase "and I will keep" may be translated "that I may keep." The psalmist was not bargaining with God, "Answer my prayers and I will obey you", but dedicating himself to God to obey Him no matter how He answers his prayers. Before we can pray as we ought, we must pray for ourselves that God will give us a heart ignited by the fire of the Spirit. We should also pray without ceasing according to the Word (vv. 147-148). Two important elements of successful prayer are involved here. The first is that we constantly cultivate an attitude of prayer and remain in communion with the Lord. At morning and during the watches of the night (sunset to 10 p. m., 10-2, 2 until dawn), the psalmist prayed to the Lord. Jesus called this "abiding" (John 15:1-11). To "pray without ceasing" (1 Thess. 5:17) does not mean to walk around muttering prayers. It means to "keep the receiver off the hook" so that nothing comes between the Father and us. The second element in successful prayer is the Word of God, for apart from God's Word, we cannot know God's will. Each verse in this section mentions the Scriptures and the writer's devotion to God's Word. We must balance the Word and prayer in our devotional life and ministry, for all Bible and no prayer means light without heat, but all prayer and no Bible could result in zeal without knowledge. The spiritual leaders in the early church gave themselves to prayer and the Word (Acts 6:4). When we meditate on the Word, the Father speaks to us, and when we pray, we speak to the Father. We need both instruction and intercession if we are to be balanced children of God. Our Prayers should be an act of our love for the LORD (v. 149). This verse combines both love and law, for if we love the Lord, we will keep His commandments. Too often we think of prayer as an emergency measure, rushing into God's presence and crying for help. Prayer is more than asking; prayer is loving. If we love the Word of God, we must also love the God of the Word and express that love to Him. To tell Him we love Him only because we want to receive something is to practice prayer on a juvenile level. When we share our love with the Lord, we receive new life from Him. Lastly, we should pray with our eyes open (vv. 150-152). As he prayed, the psalmist saw his enemies drawing near, so he asked for God to draw near to help him. Jesus (Matt. 26:41; Mark 13:33), Paul (Col. 4:2), and Peter (1 Peter 4:7) commanded God's people to "watch and pray," to be on guard and pray with intelligence and alertness. We are soldiers in a battle and we dare not go to sleep while on duty. If we are not in the Word like we should be, it won't be long before we will not be praying like we should be. The Word of God and prayer go hand in hand! You really can't enjoy one without the other. God bless!

They discuss what it means to be a peacemaker while living in one of the world's most heavily armed countries and a monumental gun death toll. “Violence is one of those demons that goes back to our very foundations in our country,” Claiborne says. Claiborne says the U.S. has 5% of the world's population, but almost half of the world's guns, and poses the question, “What would Jesus, the Prince of Peace, be saying right now?” Sister Julia and Shane Claiborne also discuss the importance of remaining joyful and hopeful, even when surrounded by the pain of the world. “I like how Karl Barth said we need to read the bible in one hand, but we need to hold the newspaper in the other… so that our faith doesn't just become a ticket into heaven and a license to ignore the world we live in, but our faith should actually fuel us to want to change the world,” Claiborne says. In addition, they discuss the importance of community and the messiness that comes from the Christian veneer of perfection. “A lot of the times we sort of act like the church is a country club for saints, rather than a hospital for sinners.” Claiborne says honesty can help manage the resulting mess. He remembers walking into a church where greeters wore shirts that said, “No perfect people allowed.” “If that was greeting every person coming into every church, it would give you a sense of reality, like this is a home for you even if you don't have it all together… our wounds are not our liabilities, they are our credentials.” He adds, “Honesty can show this Gospel is not for the Righteous, but for the sinner.” FOR MORE INFORMATION: Learn more about the Red Letter Christians movement, headed by Shane Claiborne, by exploring their website. While trusting in God's will for our lives is an essential part of the Christian walk, it's also one of the most difficult things we attempt to do as humans. When God tells us "no" to our prayers, we often struggle with how to respond. For many of us, it can serve as a catalyst to pull further away from God. But what if reframed how we internalize a "no" from God? Author Blake Long explores this topic in his new s book, "Taking No For an Answer: How to Respond When God Says No to Our Prayers." I love this topic, and I think it's one that will always be timely for both Christians and non-believers. For some, this is the very reason they either don't follow God or believe God doesn't exist. After all, how can a gracious and loving God allow for heartache, devastation and tragedy? If these are questions you've wrestled with (trust me, I have — plenty of times) I hope this conversation with Blake is helpful. We dive deep into some heavy stuff and I hope you'll be encouraged and learn some truth about the character and heart of God. In this episode, activist Shane Claiborne echoes Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's framework that the Church is not the master or the servant of the State, but the consciousness of the State. This is a framework that gives us the freedom as Jesus-followers to actively and wholeheartedly engage with politics. It is our job that when the State causes harm to our fellow image-bearers, we critique the State at the ballot box because of our convictions of love and God's desire to see human flourishing.   LINKS: Download the free Peace & Politics Practice Guide: https://globalimmerse.org/podcast Become an EMBER: https://globalimmerse.org/donate/ Learn about our cohorts: https://globalimmerse.org/leaders/ Conflicted Allegiance: https://globalimmerse.org/public-programs/conflicted-allegiance/ Learn more about Global Immersion: https://globalimmerse.org/ Common Prayer: https://commonprayer.net/ Shane's Website: www.shaneclaiborne.com/ Red Letter Christians: https://www.redletterchristians.org/ Follow Shane on Instagram: @shane.claiborne Follow Shane on Facebook: @ShaneClaiborne Follow Shane on Twitter: @ShaneClaiborne Shane Claiborne Bio: Shane Claiborne is a prominent speaker, activist, and best-selling author.  Shane worked with Mother Teresa in Calcutta, and founded The Simple Way in Philadelphia.  He heads up Red Letter Christians, a movement of folks who are committed to living "as if Jesus meant the things he said." Welcome to the forty-third episode of the Lessons from the Cockpit podcast! I have been asked for several years to tell the story of flying an American Flag for someone who became a very dear friend and my son Jeffrey's fourteen-month battle with cancer. Both my good friend and Jeffrey both succumbed to this terrible cancer disease. My wife and I decided today it was time to tell this story of a military tradition, patriotism and the American Flag, and compassionate service during this dark period of our family's life when Jeff battled Osteosarcoma. To read a very moving tribute to my son Jeffrey go to "Our Prayers for the Hasara Family." This episode is sponsored by the book Tanker Pilot: Lessons from the Cockpit found in all four formats on Amazon. Thirty-two pictures in the book were taken during the actual event described in each chapter. Go to Amazon or any bookseller and order a copy (or several!) of Tanker Pilot for a behind-the-scenes look at daily air refueling operations so Lessons from the Cockpit keeps moving forward. Thanks for downloading and listening to this and previous episodes of the Lessons from the Cockpit podcast! I really do appreciate it as we are growing with each episode. Lessons from the Cockpit is approaching 11,000 downloads in 42 episodes. Share this and other episodes with your family, friends, and loved ones found on my website at markhasara.com. Next week you are going to hear from a B-52 Superfortress Navigator flying missions in the opening nights of the Afghanistan air campaign and learn about some new missions the old Big Ugly Fat Fellow or BUFF is flying with FEMA, DHS, and in Southern Command hunting drug boats from 30,000 feet! Look forward to discussing those extraordinary missions with you next week!

The Outcome of Our Prayers is a Secondary Benefit.  The Goal of Prayer is Relationship With God – Prayer Day 3   God wants to be involved in all aspects of our lives, even the hard ones.  He is big enough to take on your hard emotions.   Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.   Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God's voice or if it's really your own? Do you wonder how you can know the difference? Do you struggle to feel confident in your relationship with God and what He says in his word? Do you sometimes feel stagnant or like you hit a wall in your spiritual life?   Hey, I'm your host, Rachael Groll: missionary, author, pastor, and life coach. And I have been there. I, too, was doubting God's voice in my own life. I, too, felt insecure about the things I thought God might be calling me to do. I wanted to make a difference in the world and be obedient to what God was calling me to do, but I wasn't quite sure how to figure out what exactly that was. I kept telling myself that I was wasting time trying to figure it out or waiting for Him to show me. Or that I wasn't qualified to do the things I thought He might be telling me to do.   The answer for me was found in the pages of the Bible, as I learned how to understand what it was actually saying. If you are ready to grow in your faith and to step confidently into the calling God has for you, then join me as we dig deep into God's word so you can learn to live out your faith in your everyday life.   Friend, you are loved, you are cherished, and you are His.   The Hearing Jesus Podcast will encourage and equip you to step into the calling God has for your life, living out your faith in the everyday. Together we will break down walls that keep us from growing spiritually. We will dig deep into our Bibles to understand and connect the Scriptures to our lives. We will boldly obey what God calls us to do, walking through doors that only He can open.   Join me for your daily dose of faith, honesty, and prayer.   Learn -> https://shehears.org Connect -> rachael@shehears.org Community-> https://www.facebook.com/groups/743928930315696/ Instagram-> https://www.instagram.com/she_hears/ Missions Support-> https://www.cotni.org/campaigns/rachael-groll Want to go a little deeper?   Purchase the She Hears: Learning to Listen to Jesus Bible Study on my Etsy shop here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/SheHearsShop?ref=profile_header   In this six-week study from the Book of John, Rachael Groll takes you on an in-depth exploration into the lives of six women Jesus knew. Women often deal with feelings of insecurity and unworthiness, yet the lives of these women show that Jesus values us, wants a relationship with us, and can use us to further His kingdom. In her warm, conversational style, Rachael ties together her life experience, knowledge of the Scriptures, and her compassion for women to encourage us and enable us to become the women God has called us to be.
