President Trump has just started his second term, and a lot of things have been changing – but sadly, not for the better. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is one of the most adversely impacted subjects, making discrimination, stereotyping, and inequality much more rampant. In this episode, Corinna Bellizzi is joined by DEI coach and consultant Rachel Siegel to discuss how to overcome the United States' current crisis with systemic racism, classicism, and authoritarianism. They explain why DEI should never lead to social division but bring people together in peace and harmony. Rachel also explains how to be more critical when consuming different kinds of media and how to cultivate the right mindset to stop yourself from following leaders blindly.About Guest:Rachel Siegel is a white, queer, Jewish mother, artist, organizer, and educator on Abenaki land in Vermont. She was ED of Peace & Justice Center and a City Councilor before founding Toward Liberation. She cofounded Vermont Access to Reproductive Freedom and ONE Mutual Aid, serves on the grant committee for Haymarket People's Fund, and volunteers for Center City Little League. We're back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, Vancouver Rise, and Canadian Premier League chat. The offseason keeps rolling on apace in the North American soccer leagues. MLS held a somewhat farcical untelevised SuperDraft on Friday. The Whitecaps added two players and we chat with one of them, University of North Carolina Freshman Tate Johnson who was picked by the 'Caps in the first round. We also chat with Whitecaps CEO Axel Schuster about the team's two draft picks and we get a tantalising little tease about the search for a new manager. It looks like it's done and it's not a Canadian! It's been a busy week for the new club in town, NSL side Vancouver Rise, who announced their first five signings. We look back at who has been revealed so far, hear from the club's first signing, Canadian defender Shannon Woeller, and talk with club President Sinead King about a couple of off the pitch aspects of the new team. Turning our attention to the CPL, we look at the offseason so far for the two BC teams, Pacific and Vancouver, as roster decisions are made and rebuilding begins. Plus music-wise we continue our 2024 Festive 15 with the songs that came in at the numbers 4 to 6 positions. Here's the rundown for the main segments from the episode: 01.27: Intro 03.50: Whitecaps add two in farcical MLS SuperDraft 15.18: Axel Schuster on draft picks and manager search 30.05: AFTN's 2024 Festive 15 - #6 Fontaines D.C. - Romance 34.00: Vancouver Rise add first five players 68.41: AFTN's 2024 Festive 15 - #5 Soft Play - Everything and Nothing 75.55: Pacific FC's offseason so far 94.19: AFTN's 2024 Festive 15 - #4 Idles - Gift Horse 100.10: Vancouver FC's offseason so far 123.30: Wavelength - Cha Cha 2000 - Tired Legs At The End Of The Game

How is God's generosity meant to change us? In the Bible, God's gifts are intended to bring about transformation in our lives. This generosity challenges our natural tendencies toward selfishness, calling us to live in a community that freely shares and truly loves one another. In this re-released episode from 2019, Tim and Jon explore the teachings of Jesus and the apostles on generosity and ponder the centrality of generosity to the Gospel itself.View more resources on our website →Timestamps Chapter 1: Indiscriminate Gifting (0:00-16:32)Chapter 2: Give to Your Enemies (16:32-33:35)Chapter 3: Grace and Gifts (33:35-45:01)Chapter 4: A Blank Checkbook from Jesus (45:01-56:21)Referenced ResourcesPaul and the Gift by John M. "Moors have always been mysterious places to me. Maybe it is because of its role in Arthur Conan Doyle's The Hound of the Baskervilles, or because of my interest in railways, that made me discover the most remote station in Great Britain, in the middle of Rannoch Moor, Scotland. "Starlings murmurations are a mystery about collective behaviour. Their shapes always catch us by surprise. Their how, why and what are always fascinating. "For this piece I have processed the original murmurations recorded in Otmoor (Oxfordshire), by means of different transformative pipelines. I wanted to create something slightly mysterious, maybe menacing but not so much, as some murmurations and moors can be at times. "May the music help listeners see and feel how those flocks become like a single massive entity, not only because they make a shape in the air but because, in this track, they are affected by a kind of transmogrification that turns them into otherworldly creatures. They then move the air, the whole sky fabric, in mysterious ways. Something in the way they move... " Otmoor starlings reimagined by fectoper.

Artificial intelligence is changing our lives. Many of us use the voice activated features on our phones to recognise, understand and fairly complex speech. Students use ChatGPT to do their homework. And doctors use AI algorithms to help diagnose many diseases from medical data. But how is AI changing the lives of mathematicians? In this podcast we speak to Yang-Hui He from the London Institute of Mathematical Sciences about his recent work on the evocatively titled murmuration conjecture. This exciting new conjecture came about due to both artificial and human intelligence, and reveals patterns in the prime numbers that look like flocks of birds. A murmuration of starlings. Photo: Walter Baxter, CC BY-SA 2.0. We were speaking to Yang as part of our coverage of the research programme, Black holes: bridges between number theory and holographic quantum information, held at the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Cambridge. The programme brought together a fascinating array of experts in black holes and quantum theory, with mathematicians and computer scientists. You can read more in our coverage of the programme here. This content was produced as part of our collaboration with the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences (INI) – you can find all the content from our collaboration here. The INI is an international research centre and our neighbour here on the University of Cambridge's maths campus. It attracts leading mathematical scientists from all over the world, and is open to all. Visit www.newton.ac.uk to find out more.
“Have the courage to lean into uncertainty, knowing that you can handle whatever you find, and trust it will be joyous on the other side.” Kicking off the first episode of Collective Wisdom, host Lucy Reynolds—founder of The Murmuration Collective and seasoned leadership coach, takes a turn in the spotlight. Joined by special guest Hilary Kupish, founder of MVMNT Brand Strategy Consulting, they embark on a journey to uncover the origins of the podcast, explore its guiding principles, and delve into the essence of collective wisdom. With curiosity, bravery, and playfulness, Lucy and Hillary trace The Murmuration Collective's journey, a story that begins in Amsterdam and Moscow, takes a pit stop in empty-nesting, and ignites into the The Murmuration Collective and today's inaugural podcast episode. Along the way, they redefine leadership, challenge common connotations around uncertainty and fear, and question the true impact of self-reliance (hint: it's time to build your board!).If you're on a journey towards self-discovery, or simply seeking a community where you are not only welcome, but deeply seen and guided, this podcast is your invitation. Photographer Xavi Bou creates incredible images of birds and their movements by combining his love of photography and technology with his love for birds and nature — as seen in his book, Ornithographies. He's especially drawn to European Starlings and their movements as a flock, called a murmuration. The starlings fly in a tight, synchronized group, sometimes to avoid a predator.More info and transcript at BirdNote.org. Want more BirdNote? Subscribe to our weekly newsletter. Return & Rebuild - (Ezra 3:1-2) - Mathew P. John
In conversation with Agatha Nowicki, Hollywood actor, writer and soulful human caught at the very edge of the war for the human soul, playing out in the current battle of the writers' strike, sparked by the motions of the streaming platforms and the power brokers in Hollywood and Silicon Valley as they move to further disenfranchise artists and creatives in their ongoing quest for 'more'.We discuss the strike, Agatha's own calling to vulnerability and expression through art and what the toll the unfolding madness is having not just on her own life, but on humanity. We share our shared and private experiences from our recent walking tour in Ireland where we met as well as the rude return to 'normal' as we both struggled to integrate that powerful and transformative experience. We also discuss the Murmuration project. To Follow Agatha's work:Instagram: @agaloves, @asilentkind Substack: A Silent Kind of Light IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2063520/Credit for the photography goes to Bodi Hallett, pictured at the end of that pier reaching out into Lough Inagh, is Agatha, contemplating the vastness.Sign up to my Substack: eyeswideopenlife.substack.comIf you are interested in a month free trial, go to mymojodojolife.comemail info@eyeswideopenlife.com

Dublin-born, London-based artist Niall Jackson aka Swimmers Jackson releases his second album Now Is All via his own Wonky Karousel Records label this Friday, April 7. Made between March 2020 and March 2022, it's a journey of sorts through the pandemic. He released his debut album Murmuration in May 2020, but with no opportunity to tour, Jackson took to writing as many songs as possible to document the feelings of that time before heading back into a studio in Limerick over Christmas 2021 and St Patrick's Day 2022. Armed with a handful of songs about loss of identity, an uncertain future, concerns with society's direction, and getting older against your will, the resulting album Now Is All is both hard fought and hard won. We talk about life in London, his creative process, getting radio play from Steve Lamacq, and go through some of the tracks on the album. You can buy it at: https://swimmersjackson.bandcamp.com/album/now-is-all Swimmers Jackson tour dates: April 6: Islington Assembly Hall, London (supporting Kila) April 7: Norton's Digbeth, Birmingham (supporting Kila) April 8: Secret Cinema, Crystal Palace April 14: Betsey Trotwood, London April 20: Roisin Dubh, Galway (supporting David Kitt) April 23: Spirit Store, Dundalk (supporting David Kitt) April 28: Pharmacia, Limerick (supporting Jinx Lennon) May 24: Maureen's Bar, Cork City May 26: Prim's Bookshop, Kinsale May 27: Levis' of Ballydehob May 28: Workman's Cellar, Dublin

We're at Ham Wall in Somerset for the great starling murmuration. At first they come in small flocks, barely discernible against the winter sky. But as the light begins to fade, their numbers strengthen; a thousand here, two thousand there. They gather like mercury, then split and bind again, growing ever larger until soon there are half a million of them throwing forms across the sky. A strand suddenly breaks free, plummeting into the reedbeds, and the rest follow. The sound absorbs you. School boards have become political battlegrounds. Culture wars are centering on the classroom and teachers – underpaid and often feeling unsafe and unheard – are increasingly exiting the profession. None of this is improving the reality for students who are struggling with unprecedented learning loss and mental health challenges as a result of the pandemic. In this podcast we talk with a group of people who are working on solutions. Emma Bloomberg, the founder and CEO of Murmuration, is working to get more people involved in school board level. John Della Volpe, Director of polling at the Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics, focuses on how Gen Z can play a role. Adonica Duggan, CEO of Baton Rouge Alliance for Students, is working on student focused reforms. And Romy Drucker of the K-12 Education Program at the Walton Family Foundation looks at innovative practices that can make work more sustainable for teachers, and close learning gaps for students. We learn about their work, ask their take on the politics of distraction around schooling, and take your questions. Most groups of wildlife can be described as a flock or a herd, a swarm or a shoal – but where is the fun in stopping there? From an army of ants to a dazzle of zebras, an exultation of larks to a murder of crows, the English language is brimming with weird and wonderful collective nouns to describe groups of animals and birds. Michael Rosen talks to Matt Sewell, author of 'A Charm of Goldfinches', about some of the more obscure examples that have made their way into common usage as collective nouns for creatures of the land, the sea and the air... Meghadeepa Maity grew up in India on the outskirts of a city that still had pockets of green space here and there, like their family's garden. They started noticing one bird species in particular that flocked to the garden. With their sister, Meghadeepa searched the web and learned the birds were called Oriental Magpie-Robins. This species helped awaken Meghadeepa to the wider world of birds. Now birding in Massachusetts, they've helped create a project called The Murmuration that crowd-sources info about how to access birding spots. Contributors can share how safe they felt in a place so that other people know what to expect.More info and transcript at BirdNote.org. Want more BirdNote? Subscribe to our weekly newsletter.
