Synopsis Today's date marks the 1953 New York premiere of a musical movie that flopped when it debuted but has since become a cult classic – and for two very good reasons.First, the movie's script – written by Dr. Seuss – was about a little boy named Bart who didn't enjoy practicing the piano and who was worried that his widowed mom might marry his dreaded piano teacher. The film, entitled “The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T,” is cast as Bart's dream – or nightmare – with surreal scenarios as only Dr. Seuss could imagine them. Second, the film boasted a score by Frederick Hollander, a composer of droll Berlin cabaret songs who found a welcome home in Hollywood. For “The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T,” Hollander crafted witty songs and an extravagant instrumental sequence for a whacky Seussian ballet.Despite all that, The New York Times reviewer was bored: “a ponderously literate affair,” he wrote. The film did have its fans, however, and one was a little boy who DID like to practice the piano – singer and pianist Michael J. Feinstein, who lovingly gathered together all of Hollander's used and unused music for the movie for a limited edition CD-set released in 2010. Patrick Gilmore, kompozytor pochodzenia irlandzkiego, służąc w armii Unii pisze piosenkę „When Johnny Comes Marching Home” (Kiedy Johnny wraca do domu). 2 najbardziej znane noszą ten sam tytuł: „Johnny fill up the bowl”– Johny napełnij miskę – chodzi zapewne o rodzaj wojskowego kubka, menażki. Prawdopodobnie najpierw powstała wersja jankeska, nawołująca do walki z rebelią. Dla odróżnienia wersja konfederatów dostała podtytuł „For Bales”. Piosenka powstała więc prawdopodobnie przeciw rekrutacji irlandzkich chłopców do armii brytyjskiej. I powstał prawdziwy hymn antywojenny, jeden z najpopularniejszych do dzisiaj. Sail Ho Audycja zawiera utwory: “ When Johnny Comes Marching Home” w wykonaniu zespołu „The 2nd South Carolina String Band”, słowa: Patrick Gilmore, muzyka: tradycyjna “ Johnny fill up the bowl” w wykonaniu Bobby Hortona, słowa i muzyka: tradycyjne “ Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye”” w wykonaniu grupy „Sąsiedzi”, słowa i muzyka: tradycyjne

We talk about what an amazing Step Dad Patrick is and how supportive of Marcella and Gino he has always been. He was extremely supportive and a huge help when Marcella struggled at 18 years old while dating an abusive drug dealer and Meth addict. Patrick talks about when Marcella got kidnapped and how that led to he and Peter - Gabrielle's ex Mafia husband and Marcella's Dad ending up becoming friends through this horrible ordeal. You can hear details about this kidnapping on episode 14 when Marcella bravely shares about it. We then talk about Patrick and Gabrielle's relationship rules. They both say that they made the rules together and decided to honor them from the beginning and that is how their relationship has been such a success for the last 20 years. Patrick passionately explains that everyone wants what they have but nobody is willing to do what it takes.Party with Miss Polly: "Is it safe to bleach your private parts?"Question of the Day: " Your significant other tells you that you won't find someone better than them!!!! ..... Patrick is the reason why the Too Posh Podcast exists and we talk about how it started and he basically forced us to do it. Then he tells us where he grew up and that he was the black sheep of his family. They had no money and he didn't have many opportunities. One afternoon after watching Navy Seals he got off the couch and joined the military. He was in the Army for 3 years. He tells about basic training and of his time being stationed in Hawaii for 3 years. He was very fortunate to not have to experience combat. He does tell us about a crazy story involving a ship with 550 Chinese nationalists where a coast guard got killed. We learn about what he likes and dislikes about having been in the Army.Everyone always ask us how Patrick and Gabrielle met and here is all the insights you could ever want. It is a fun, crazy, interesting story that is not your everyday love story. You will hear all about the first moment meeting at Cool River in Las Colinas, Texas and the days after which involve Gabrielle's Mafia husband, who she was still married to at the time. They were officially separated and technically single, however he did not take it well at all being confronted with the reality of Gabrielle meeting another man. Patrick's and Peter's first encounter the day after Patrick met Gabrielle at their Italian Restaurant, Raneri's in Valley Ranch, Texas is a very interesting one. As Gabrielle kept dating Patrick Peter went completely psycho and threatened to kill them, chop them up, feed them to the sharks - they were followed - it was absolutely insane. We hear Marcella's view on all this and Bernie cannot believe that this story is real. PARTY WITH MISS POLLY: Is it true that having multiple sex partners or having too much sex turns your vagina into roast beef?QUESTION OF THE DAY:Your significant other doesn't text you on nights that they go out - red flag or deal breaker?

https://www.associatesbpl.org/events-and-programs/pierce/ Join us at the Boston Public Library to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Grand National Peace Jubilee held in Copley Square in 1869. The Peace Jubilee was a week-long musical celebration of the Union victory in the Civil War. It was a concert of unprecedented scale, performed before an audience of up to 50,000 in a purpose-built Coliseum in the Back Bay that was one of the largest buildings in the world. People came from far and wide to take in the spectacle, including President Ulysses S Grant and many other dignitaries. The climax of the show was a piece by Verdi called the Anvil Chorus. Jubilee director Patrick Gilmore conducted 10,000 vocalists, who were backed by 1000 instrumentalists, a battery of cannons, a convocation of church bells, a custom made bass drum eight feet in diameter, the world’s largest pipe organ, and a company of 100 Boston firefighters carrying sledgehammers and pounding anvils in unison. To help celebrate the 150th anniversary of this musical spectacular, the Associates of the Boston Public Library are throwing a party at the Copley branch of the BPL on March 29. Nikki and I will be giving a brief talk discussing who Patrick Gilmore was, how he conceived of the enormous Coliseum where the Jubilee was held, and what the concert was like. Boston’s poet laureate Porsha Olayiwola will give a reading, and the keynote address will be delivered by Theodore C. Landsmark. The highlight of the evening will be a musical performance by a brass band from the New England Conservatory of Music, featuring some of the same arrangements that were performed in 1869, complete with firemen hammering anvils. Thanks to a well timed tweet by our listener, Rob, Patrick Gilmore gets comfy in the Mancave with Steve, JJ and Katie for an extended episode of The League Cast. We talk a little Stargate Universe and how Patrick's wrongly worded interview sparked controversy in the SG fan community, Katie and Patrick share the story of how they met on set, she was terrifed at first, but then they bummed around space for a while. Steve's movie collection becomes a distraction and we play another round of "Really..? Brought to you by IMDB". We end off the show with a list of things Patrick hates, all of which are Manchildren staples. Will he return to the Mancave, or will he blame it all on the 'YOLO'?Congratulations! Patrick's CineCoup project, Alien Abduction, made the final 5 in the Cinecoup Accelerator. Check it out on Cinecoup.com
