The pandemic didn't just disrupt - it created unexpected opportunities for neurodivergent youth to forge meaningful connections in new ways. They dive deep into how digital spaces have become vital lifelines, while challenging the traditional playbook for "successful" socializing. One powerful revelation? A single genuine connection can transform a child's entire social world. Takeaways: The surprising advantages of post-pandemic social changes for neurodivergent kids Why online communities are becoming crucial safe havens How parents can ditch outdated social expectations and support their kids' unique paths The hidden impact of discovering your own neurodivergence while parenting Breaking free from comparing neurodivergent kids to neurotypical peers Sam Young's organization, the Young Scholars Academy, is a virtual village that helps twice-exceptional & differently-wired students feel seen, nurtured, and happy through strength-based courses, camps, and community. It's a tale of a Paralympian fighting to compete and successfully medaling in the 2022 Olympic Beijing Games. For Brenna Huckaby, a 3x Olympic gold medalist, world champion, and cancer survivor, the bronze medal won in 2022 is perhaps the most meaningful. Accordingly to Brenna, the medal represents and encourages those who continue to fight an uphill battle of accessibility and inclusion to keep pushing the glass ceiling. Brenna hopes that her message of strength and resilience inspires those like herself who have fought and are still battling cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Forever an athlete, Brenna's love for gymnastics translated post-cancer to snowboarding, as she felt that the balance beam's feel was replicated in her new sport. Visualizing her goals by looking to the next mountain to shred, Brenna continued to build upon her skills into what is today a champion status. Brenna's self-proclaimed “Step Out of Line” moment was when she realized that her own self-worth was not based on winning medals and that she alone was enough. Hosted on Acast. Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: How are you keeping it together?, published by rando2022 on March 6, 2022 on The Effective Altruism Forum. Not sure this is the best place to post this, but I think it's a problem a lot of us are having now: Given the recent news, I've been struggling a lot with hopelessness about the possibility of a catastrophic nuclear war. It's become a major impediment to both my mental health and my ability to care about EA causes. I've been thinking of things my family could realistically do in the event that things appear to be moving southward (packing bags and having a plan to getting out of the area if we have enough warning, and planning on ways to end things quickly if we don't). But I'm still pretty horrified at it all and finding it hard to function. Any advice? How do you keep enough hope to keep at it? Thanks for listening. You've worked so hard and for so long to get a deal. Now comes the fun part of ensuring that the deal is able to cross the finish line. That's where bulletproofing the transaction comes into play. We have to ensure that we've set up our transactions in a way that will increase the likeliness of actually getting to a closing. Afterall, we don't get paid for a transaction until it closes. Many agents "sell"ebrate the second they get the contract signed. Getting the contract signed isn't the last step. We have to hold this contract together all the way to the finish line. Let's talk about how we can give our agreements a fighting chance to get to the closing table. Share some of your thoughts on how you've been able to bulletproof your deals or maybe even how you've been able to save a deal from falling apart. We'd love to hear what works for you and what hasn't.

Mental health in the workplace is often ignored or sidelined. Not to mention that it is difficult to talk about it in the first place. And yet, pressures in our work environment has been rising, not least because of the pandemic. How  we can look out for ourselves and others is a question I'll be discussing with Graham McCartney and Dave Horsfall. Dave and Graham are leading the UK charity Jonathan's Voice, which was born under tragic circumstances. As Graham says in the podcast: if you have difficulties in coping, don't struggle alone. Reach out! Your employer may provide services such as mental health aiders or services provided by your HR department. In addition to that most if not all countries provide helplines and advice on mental health. In the UK e.g. there are the Samaritans https://www.samaritans.org Mind https://www.mind.org.uk Here are a few links you might find usefulhttps://jonathansvoice.org.uk  Jonathan's Voice Charity - speaking out for mental healthhttps://mhfaengland.org Mental Health First Aiders Englandhttps://www.gov.uk/government/publications/thriving-at-work-a-review-of-mental-health-and-employers Thriving at Work: UK government's Stevenson Farmer report from 2017 on Mental Health https://medium.com/newcastle-university-research-software-engineering/mental-health-for-research-software-engineers-in-academia-2a5f0274f16e Dave's article on mental health in Academia in Mediumhttps://www.mentimeter.com MentiMeter a tool to gauge how your audience, team etc are doingSupport the Show.Thank you for listening and your ongoing support. Things may seem like they're falling apart all around us. When that happens, it's difficult to keep it together. Maybe we're not supposed to keep it together by ourselves. Instead, we are to focus on the one who holds all things together. Find encouragement from Colossians 1 today.
