The guys go deep and dark into vampiric lore, to discover...The Penanggalan!!!
On this week's episode, it's Rosemary's Baby and Nure-onna's baby! First, Felicia explores the infamous curse of the iconic 1968 cinematic masterpiece, Rosemary's Baby. It is of course considered one of the greatest horror films of all time…but have you heard about the scary stuff behind-the-scenes?! From crazy coincidences to eerie occurrences to multiples deaths and even the Manson murders, the devil may have possessed Rosemary's baby both on and off screen. Next, following up the Penanggalan from January, Lauren discusses another fearsome folklore from the Japanese yōkai - the Nure-onna! This vampiric sea she-serpent (also knows a ”wet woman”) is a bloodthirsty creature resembling a reptilian with the head of a woman and the body of a snake who eats humans, sometimes by luring them with a baby she's holding. If you were afraid of snakes before…If you have requests for future episodes or just want to hang out, follow us on Instagram @sinistersisterspodcast
This week, it's two tales of creepy creatures! Grotesque Ghost Heads and Goblins galore! First up, Lauren covers the Penanggalan - a nocturnal vampiric creature originating in Malaysian folklore that's unlike anything you've ever seen or heard of! This hideous entity appears as a floating, disembodied female head with its trailing organs and tail-like intestines still attached. It's like if Medusa and a slimy snake made a Black Magic baby that bursts into a ball of flames! But are they ghosts? Or is it a witch? Or something even more? Listen to hear how these decapitated undead creatures are created and what they could possibly want from the living… Next, Felicia discusses a more commonly seen creepy creature - Goblins! Of course we've all seen Goblins in their many forms, in everything from myths to movies and just as a general term for a creature, but Felicia talks about several unique kinds. Some of these little monsters might be relatively harmless, but others are just looking to dip their cap in your blood...
There are tales throughout Asia of a woman who — whether from black magic whiplash, or a nasty curse — transforms into a gruesome creature that smells like vinegar and wants babies' blood. Cute! Loey and Eleanor freak themselves out with the story of the tentacled, vampiric, TERRIFYING Penanggalan, and detail the *highly specific* ways of warding it off. Learn more about your ad choices. At 288,000 square miles (which is about 20,000 miles bigger than Texas, for reference) and with elevation from sea level to peaks upwards of 13,000 feet, Borneo is a vast landscape with amazing spectacles to witness. This tropical wonder is largely covered in a variety of diverse rainforests. Its plant life varies from oaks, teak, and conifers to amazing creatures like elephants, orangutans, and the clouded leopard. It's even home to the Corpse Flower, the largest and most putrid-smelling flower in the world. But if the legends are true, this giant flower isn't the only corpse you might find in this Asian island oasis. ------- All links

Thank you again to JP for sharing his knowledge and experiences with Southeast Asian Folklore. I've long had an interest in linking the different folklore and beliefs around the world in the hopes of finding a connection between the different practices and appearances to see if my theory that Elementals are present all around the world and not just in the Philippines, they just take different forms or evolve according to the location they are in.As mentioned in the extro of the episode, if you want to re-watch or re-listen to this episode, I would suggest you do it on YouTube as I have added images and text support to some of the items discussed by JP. "Just then on the opposite side of my room, I watched this dark, smoky, human-like form crawl up my wall, each step it took made a tsssss (like water on a frying pan sound) and smoke was coming from each hand and foot connection with my wall." This week Dan takes from England to Malaysia, such a fun show! To kick off the show, Dan shares an old but interesting tale from Raynham Hall. Did a pair of photographers catch The Brown Lady (it's a reference to her dress!) ascending the stairs? Can it really be proven? What happens when its been centuries of people seeing a ghost; does it make it more possible. Lynze really buys into the idea that this ghost is real. From there, we pop over to Malaysia to learn the folkloric tale of the penanggalan- a bodyless woman whose insides trail behind her as she attacks her victims. Is she real? Listen as two very logical people have a strange and frightening encounter with what they believe to be a penanggalan. In the back half of the show, Lynze has one heck of a creepy story about something haunting a child. While the story has a slow start make sure you stay tuned for the MAJOR plot twist! After that, let's head over to the forests of Michigan. (This is where all people from Ohio groan. Not the "M" word...) What would you do if you saw an old man in the woods? Would you offer him help or would you GTFO? ALSO! In honor of Veteran’s Day we are making a Bad Magic Productions donation of $10,000 to https://veteransfoodpantry.org/ this month. Today we are taking a break from the ongoing narrative. Several podcasts tell spooky stories for their late October episodes, so this episode will look at myths and legends from Southeast Asia, especially those about monsters. You may not want to listen to this alone! Among the monsters Southeast Asians believe in, one of the most hideous appears as a woman's head with an assortment of internal organs hanging underneath. She goes by many names; Cambodians calls her the Ap, Laotians calls her the Kasu, Thais calls her the Krasue, and Malaysians calls her the Penanggalan, while the Philippines has a similar monster called the Manananggal.
