''Then was fulfilled what had been spoken by the prophet Jeremiah, saying, "And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him on whom a price had been set by some of the sons of Israel, and they gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord directed me." (Matthew 27:9-10)'' The chief priests' purchase of the potter's field fulfills one more Messianic prophecy. Even the purchase price was known to the prophet Jeremiah six hundred years before. The purchase price is "the price of Him on whom a price had been set by some of the sons of Israel." We must remember this when we talk to our Jewish neighbors. Or talk about Jews in general. Not all of the sons of Israel turned their back on Jesus. Just some. But all of the sons of Israel needed a Savior. All the sons of Adam need a Savior. All the daughters of Eve need a Savior. This Savior had a price of His head. This Savior paid that price. Not with the thirty pieces of silver for the potter's field. With His holy, innocent, precious suffering and death. The potter's field that was bought with the money is a symbol of the grave that you and I share with all sinners. The grave that Jesus overcame with His death and resurrection. Amen.

Dr. Erin Kimmerle digs up bodies. She's carefully picked through mass graves in Kosovo and Croatia to identify victims of war crimes. She did the same thing in Peru, where men, women, and children were executed by the military forty years ago. She dug up the bones of young boys murdered at a Florida reform school. And this summer, she came to Philadelphia, to dig up bodies. This is a special edition of Gone Cold: Philadelphia Unsolved Murders. It originally appeared on our sister podcast, Scroll Down. (There are bodies beneath the foundation. SORRY!) Whatever. Lincoln Park. (Cccceeemetery!) *** Whooooo, Boooo-- GAG-- SHOTS! SHOTS! SHOTS! *** This story contains: 1. In 1837, the state of Illinois gave Chicago a piece of land outside the city limits to use as a burial ground. (Interesting?) 2. In July of 1854 – in a six day period - more than 200 cholera victims were buried in the Potter's Field. (Near all the bars bros love!) 3. This includes the nearly 4,000 Confederate soldiers who died at Camp Douglas and were buried in Potter's Field. (Those tingles are more than sweet Phish riffs!) 4. A researcher estimates more than 35,000 people were buried in the area. (That’s like if the entire U of I was dead and buried beneath you!) 5. 145 of the bodies lie clustered together at the north end of the baseball field, 130 by 200 feet in dimensions. (That’s why your Indiana University intramural softball team is cursed!) Sweet Dreams XOXOZzzz.

“Potter’s Field: Voices From a Creative Community.” Within Potter's Field a spirited group of writers share their stories and challenge notions of the ordinary, of the conventional, and of the norm. Here lies murder, tragedy, horror, humor, sadness, and adventure with a spoonful of self-reflection. The Potter's Field theme was brought to light at a Lost Word Writer's meeting long ago. Whatever Potter's field meant to the writer, this was criteria for the "Potter's Field" anthology. The result? A completed anthology from writers of a wide range of writing styles and genres. The Iron Gates, Unmarked Graves, Ghosts, Humor in the Boneyard (one of my favorites), Tortured Souls, Wrongful Deaths, and Eulogies. A Word From the Lost Word Writers Group and author Biographies sum up this intriguing collection of works. It also boasts wonderful photographs from two of the authors.  Learn more at www.lostwordwriters.com
