In What I've Been Watching, I chat about the 2018 Jon Hamm, Catherine Keener release "Nostalgia," which I found available for viewing at the Uintah County Library in Vernal, UT. Great space, and very cool show!   Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman, marking my 101st episode of VideoFuzzy, reporting the progress I've made in cataloging thousands of VHS transfers and digital recordings. First, heading toward my eighth anniversary doing this podcast, I'm trying to build some engagement. I posted an 11th installment of "VideoFuzzy: The Video - Celebrating 100 Episodes!" at https://youtu.be/eWfcCDiOZ2I. Please share as you're able to with anyone you feel might enjoy this production. Also, most of my recent episodes have posted with promos, so those are also available to share freely. And you have to scroll all the way down, but there are more general promos posted at https://videofuzzy.libsyn.com. Enjoy! This set covers discs 1801 to 1825 in my Classic Collection. For my Fuzzy Feature, from Disc 1818 I pulled up the "Parks and Recreation" second season episode "94 Meetings," and traced Cross Connections for Dan Butler, Jane McGregor, Robert Englund, Timothy Olyphant, Zeljko Ivanek, Robert Picardo, Tony Hale, John Barrowman, Diane Farr, Stephen Weber, Larry Widmore, Ted Bagley, Julie Benz, Krinstin Chenowith, Martha Plimpton, Yeardley Smith and Alex Kingston, plus from "Eli Stone" and elsewhere, I celebrate Golden Thread Loretta Devine. In my Classic Collection, I call up my 2010 "TV is the New Reading" podcast commentary on "Happy Town." David Tennant and Patrick Stewart shared the stage in a PBS "Great Performances" production of "Hamlet." This is it! The final episode of 2024. Happy New Years! Goodbye to the title of MOVIEHUMPERS. For 2025 GOING forward we are THE PROJECTORS. We jump into next month's theme as early as tomorrow but we close out a most wonderful time of the year with a New Year's themed flick that we probably liked a little better in our youth. We were certainly the target age range in terms of “pitching coolness” with this ensemble featuring young stars who got their starts in the eighties and nineties. Ensembles can definitely be a challenge. You can't deep dive into everyone but you really got to establish some personality and spin a lot of plates and it can be confusing to know when your character is funny or if they're just annoying. Sure, we can see ourselves in some of the characters in this setting of New Year's Eve in 1981 New York City but sometimes the abyss stares back at you. Risa Bramon Garcia's only feature film is the holiday ensemble “200 CIGARETTES” from 1999 and it stars many such as Paul Rudd, Christina Ricci, Kate Hudson, Ben Affleck, Martha Plimpton, Courtney Love and Dave Chappell among many others. Elvis Costello is also in this and based on some evidence we see at the end of this film we think that Elvis may have done something very very bad. Like Cosby style bad. Maybe he did maybe he didn't but there's some smoke and the implications are there. We should probably detain him and ask some questions at the very least. Goodbye, MOVIEHUMPERS. Brovember concludes with some mid-30s male ennui in the mid-90s, “Beautiful Girls”. Despite the stacked ensemble cast of Oscar winners and nominees, only Rosie O'Donnell gets to steal the show for a couple minutes while Uma Thurman, Mira Sorvino, Annabeth Gish, Lauren Holly and Martha Plimpton get to play girlfriends and love interests and Natalie Portman is the literal girl next door in a very uncomfortable subplot that truly signals our retreat from bro movies next month. Growing up in the town of Reseda -  named for the mignonette a fragrant plant found in the gardens of the San Fernando Valley - her parents moved north to the Bay area where team soccer and volleyball replaced limited theatrical opportunity.Chicago's robust theater community called this aspiring performer to enroll in DePaul's Theater School, formerly The Goodman School, where she studied under legendary thespian mentors Dr. Bella Itkin, and Joe Slovick. After graduation Kathleen catapulted from commercials, created her own theater company, and performed with Steppenwolf, the theater company which launched the careers of Joan Allen, John Malkovich, Laurie Metcalf, and Martha Plimpton. Inspired by love, a move to New York found Kathleen exploring every aspect of her craft from guest starring roles in Murder in the First, Law & Order,  Off Broadway productions, and more commercials. A pivot arrived while finding a natural proclivity for landscape design while working in her garden.  Following a new passion, she studied landscape design and horticulture at Columbia University, where she earned her master's degree.  Kathleen follows sister passions of acting, producing, landscape design integrating native plants, beneficial insects, soil regeneration, restorative permaculture, and land stewardship. Fiction writer and editor A.A. de Levine joins to discuss Mary Harron's debut feature, 'I Shot Andy Warhol', featuring a seismic performace from Lili Taylor as the infamous feminist writer Valerie Solanas as well as Jared Harris as the late pop artist, and a moving turn from Stephen Dorff as trans icon Candy Darling. The film is a fascinating, frightening view into the life and experiences of Solanas that led her to an increased state of anger, paranoia, and aggression which eventually resulted in the film's titular act of violence. We take a look at the real life Solanas and her most enduring work, The SCUM Manifesto; its aims, its limitations, and its intentions as a furious feminist screed, a work of biting satire, or something in the middle. Then, we discuss the film's portrayal of New York's art scene in the 1960s and its nuanced examination of the ways Warhol and his Factory cohort offer a contradiction of the avant-garde as filtered through highly palatable standards of beauty and taste. Finally, we talk about the career of Mary Harron, who would go on to achieve her greatest acclaim with her sophomore feature, the teriffic 'American Psycho', before having her films relegated to a place of relative obscurity for the next two decades. We have a veritable hootenanny of guests on this week's show with both Brett Goldstein and Nick Mohammed on to talk Ted Lasso Season 3, and Martha Plimpton joining us to chat Bermondsey gangsters in A Town Called Malice on Sky. But that's not all, because we also take a look at the near future with star-studded environmental drama Extrapolations on Apple, and head over to Dublin for ITV crime drama Redemption. Plus James apologises for Kay's egregious failure to spot the Robert Kirkman/Brian K Vaughn mix up on last week's show. For shame, Kay.

Take your seats for Act II of Jonny's chat with Martha and hear how she feels about the first day of rehearsal, what noise the first stagger through of a play elicits in her and the effect it has on her bowels. We hear how The Coast of Utopia changed her life, what was special about the curtain call on the days when they did all three plays in that trilogy consecutively, why she still has beef with Ethan Hawke and what happened when a beloved cast mate had a heart attack in front of them onstage. We hear what to do if you behave badly at the technical rehearsal, plus the unedifying story of Jonny being told to cover his nudity at Lincoln Centre, the search for a great play about reproductive rights and how playing Jaques in London may be the first step in a line of traditionally male roles for Martha. Ladies and gentlemen, Martha Plimpton. Martha was all but born in the theatre - literally. She was onstage in the original Broadway production of Hair in her mum's tum, then held by her as a tiny baby and a host of impromptu babysitters night after night as they sang “Let the Sunshine In”. The theatre was her formative play-space and so it remains. In the first part of their chat she and Jonny discuss trying to learn lines for another gig when you're doing a play, the perils of falling in love with a cast mate, how our brains sometimes don't get the memo that this is a fiction and her extraordinary childhood, Hosted on Acast. "Any movie you haven't seen before is a Mystery." With that qoute in mind, Host & Comic Steve Mazan asks the club to watch 2021's "Mass" without watching a trailer, or reading a synopsis. Just go in blind. So they watch writer /director Fran Kranz's debut film and share thoughts, and he interviews Comic Kevin Brigman. What IS this about? Was it a play first? Did anyone's acting stand out? What do the lights at the end mean? All these questions and more get answered on this week's Mazan Movie Club Podcast.  "Mass" on IMDb Home of the Mazan Movie Club Steve Mazan on Instagram Home of Corporate Comedian Steve Mazan
