Hosts Gregg Tilston and Karim Kanji welcome superstar Crystal Shawanda to the studio. Born in Wikwemikong First Nation, on Manitoulin Island, in Northern Ontario, Crystal was introduced to the blues by her eldest brother and to old-time country by her parents. “I was also into other styles of music that led me to the blues,” she says, citing everything from Elvis Presley's “Hound Dog,” written by Big Mama Thornton, to R&B-pop star Monica's “Misty Blue,” by Dorothy Moore. “I was one of those kids who read the liner notes,” Crystal says. “I wanted to know everything, who are the songwriters, the musicians, the producers, the engineers. I'm always wanting to know who are the originators, who are the mothers of invention, who inspired all of us? I'm a purist at heart, so I was always diving back to learn from the masters, like Etta James, as far as vocalists; Muddy Waters, as far as feeling; and Buddy Guy, as far as stylists who have a lot of swagger.” And yet Crystal's first foray as a professional singer was in country music, not blues. She was in her early 20s and had immediate success after signing a U.S. record deal with RCA Nashville. 2008's Dawn of a New Day, featuring the single “You Can Let Go,” reached No. 1 on the Canadian Country Album chart and No. 16 on the Billboard Top Country Albums, the highest charting album by a full-blooded Canadian Indigenous country artist (in the SoundScan-era).

À son micro se succèdent :   Molly Roberts, journaliste à l'éditorial board du Washington Post et auteure de l'article Did Britney Spears grow up or did we ? Extraits Musicaux :   - Love can build a bridge, interprété par Britney Spears, The Judds (album Love can build a bridge, 1990, RCA Nashville, Curb)  - ...Baby one more time, Britney Spears (album …Baby one more time, 1999, Jive Records)  - Cry Me a River, Justin Timberlake (album Justified, 2002, Jive Records)

Tommy “Shane” Steiner was born in Austin, Texas to a family of rodeo champions. His main goal, however, was to become a country music artist. He began touring throughout the state of Texas, playing various clubs throughout the state. RCA Nashville signed Steiner in 2001, and his debut single, "What If She's an Angel", was released that year, followed by the album Then Came the Night. The single was added to the playlists of nearly 100 of the stations on Billboard's panel in one week.[2] "What If She's an Angel" peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard U.S. Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts. Follow-up singles were less successful, however, and Steiner parted ways with RCA Nashville in December of 2002. In 2011, Shane had a pivotal moment in his life and decided to dedicate himself to overall mind and body fitness. His journey led him to a friendship and training partnership with Tim Kennedy, and ultimately to become a martial artists and firearms expert. He is a regular instructor at Sheepdog response, and a board member of the Sheepdog Survival Fund.   Mike Simpson has served over three decades in the military as an Airborne Ranger, a Special Forces Operator, and finally as a Doctor of Emergency Medicine assigned to the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC). Throughout his career, Mike has deployed to 17 different countries, from counter-narcotics operations in the jungles of South America, to the Global War on Terror (GWOT) in Southwest Asia and North Africa. Along the way, Mike has been trained as a demolitions expert, SWAT Sniper, High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) parachutist, civilian paramedic, Special Forces Medic, Operations and intelligence Sergeant, and finally, a board certified Emergency Medicine Physician. Love and Theft has been through a lot of changes in a short amount of time, but celebrating a number one single is a change they sure are enjoying.  "Angel Eyes" is the duo's first bumber one hit, and is the lead single off their self-titled RCA Nashville release.  Co-written by Love and Theft's Eric Gunderson, Jeff Coplan and Eric Paslay, the song hit number one in late August.  We had a chance to catch up with the honorees at a party at ASCAP to celebrate.
