On this week's episode of Stories Behind the Songs, I had the pleasure of sitting down with none other than Dylan Altman. With a blues and rock-heavy background, Dylan tells us all about his instant draw to the industry after watching the music video for “Jump” by Van Halen. From that moment on, Dylan knew that music was what he needed to do, so he started a band and has been playing and writing ever since.  Dylan has written many songs throughout the course of his career with number ones for Tim McGraw, Jake Owen, and Jason Aldean. He has even more cuts in the bag for Eli Young Band, Trace Adkins, JT Hodges, Eric Paslay, Jonathan Jackson, and more. You'll hear the full story behind his number one, “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” with Jake Owen, his journey in the music industry and struggles with sobriety, and how he is now 4 years sober and doing better than ever.  Dylan is now booking and playing shows with his blues band and is about to release his very own show with his daughter where they cook with songwriters and special guests and play music afterwards. We are very excited for that show to come out and will let you know when it does – as a songwriter and foodie myself, I can't wait to see it.   We loved having Dylan on this week. Give him a follow to stay up to date with what is next for him and catch his new show when that releases as well! Please help us by spreading the word of this podcast. Kicking the year off on a high note, Virginia's alt country powerhouse - The Jared Stout Band - is ready to introduce an emotive storyline about the working man's desire for love out of his league. Paired with a high powered music video directed and produced by Jamie Neighbors of Boss Motion Pictures, they follow a night in the life of a blue collar worker who meets the girl of his dreams at a bar. The only problem? She might be way out of his league. His inner monologue pleads for the price of her love as he questions whether or not he is enough for her. A song about love, lust and leaving, the music video portrays a woman from a higher class as she ventures into a small town bar; out of place with her surroundings, she finds her attention fixed on the band that is playing, while the band's lead singer finds his full attention fixed on her.   “There's price tags on your lovin, Like your heart is made of gold / Or is it something quick your wantin, Just a night to hold” ~ “Cost”   Latching eyes from across the room, the singer builds up the courage to ask the girl to dance and the two find a connection stronger than anyone could have expected. Now wondering, “What's the cost of your kiss?”, the unsuspecting couple dances in the bar as everything fades away. Caught up in the moment, they kiss and everything fades to black. Transparent about the fact that they come from two different classes, we witness curiosity, courage and the pursuit of a genuine connection despite any societal limitations.   Set to play Virginia's nationally-renowned Floyd Fest in 2023, The Jared Stout Band is well-positioned for the festival circuit. Delivering a dynamically unforgettable LIVE performance, their show has been coined as something that you definitely don't want to miss. Having previously opened for notable artists like Blues Traveler, Phil Vassar, 38 Special, Cassadee Pope and Eric Paslay, their talents are praised by some of the biggest artists in Country music. Their work has received high praises from notable outlets like Celebmix, Broadway World and Hometown Country Music. Born and raised in Tennessee, songwriter Will Hoge made his name honing a blend of soulful Americana and heartland rock & roll. After spending his childhood in the Nashville suburb of Franklin, he left Tennessee to study history at Western Kentucky University. Music drew him back home, however, and he relocated to Nashville to assemble a band that included former Georgia Satellites guitarist Dan Baird. Hoge then cut his teeth on the Southern bar circuit and issued a live release, 1999's All Night Long, before inking a deal with Atlantic Records.     *******SUBSCRIBE/RATE/REVIEW!!! www.richredmond.com/listen   The Rich Remond Show is sponsored by: Big Dot Lighting - Commercial LED Lighting Specialists   -and-   Bruce Cline Home Loans & Mortgage Refinance | Movement Mortgage www.musiciansmortgage.com       With the label's support, he entered Memphis' famed Ardent Studios to record his official debut, Carousel, with engineer John Hampton (the Replacements, Gin Blossoms). The album was released in 2000, and Blackbird on a Lonely Wire followed in 2003 (albeit without Baird, who'd left due to the band's demanding tour schedule). Record sales were slim, though, and Hoge found himself receiving minimal attention from his label. Requesting release from his contract, Hoge was made a free agent.   Following his departure from the Atlantic roster, Hoge combined a relentless tour schedule with a string of independent releases, from live albums and brief EPs to a full-fledged studio effort (2006's The Man Who Killed Love). Rykodisc took note of Hoge's work, particularly his 200-plus shows per year, and signed the artist. Draw the Curtains, Hoge's fourth studio album and first effort for Rykodisc, was released in October 2007, followed by -- what else? -- an aggressive fall tour. Recording sessions for another record began in 2008, but work was temporarily postponed on August 20th, when a scooter accident left Hoge severely injured. Months of physical therapy followed. Hoge focused on his recovery for the remainder of 2008, eventually returning to the studio project in 2009 and releasing The Wreckage later that year. Hoge put out his seventh studio album, the appropriately titled Number Seven, in September 2011. He and co-writer Eric Paslay received 2012 Academy of Country Music (ACM), Country Music Association (CMA), and Grammy nominations for Best Country Song for "Even If It Breaks Your Heart," the opening track on the Eli Young Band's album Life at Best. In December of 2012, Hoge released the digital-only EP Modern American Protest Music, which included the songs "Folded Flag" and "Ballad of Trayvon Martin." In October of 2013, Never Give In, his eighth full-length, was released by Cumberland Recordings. The album's first single, "Strong," was tapped by Chevy for its 2014 Silverado pickup truck ad campaign. He followed it in 2015 with the album Small Town Dreams, which landed at number 15 on the country charts.   While touring in support of the record, Hoge hit a career wall. He enjoyed writing songs for others and playing live, but he had fallen out of love with being in a band. What followed was a period of introspection. He let his working group go and took off on a cross-country jaunt playing solo. Reclaiming the joy that inspired him to make music a vocation in the first place, he began writing while traveling. He reentered the studio with an ace cast of studio players and completed Anchors. The self-produced 11-track set was previewed in June 2017 by the single "Little Bit of Rust" (a duet with Sheryl Crow), and followed two weeks later by "Baby's Eyes." The album proper appeared in August from Eldo/Thirty Tigers. Hoge quickly followed Anchors with My American Dream, which appeared in October 2018. 2020's Tiny Little Movies was a thematically and musically diverse LP, including personal numbers about failing romances and broadsides against political and spiritual dishonesty.     A few things that came up:   -How Nashville has changed -Will is a Nashville native -"Even if it Breaks your Heart" is his favorite song that he's written -Zooming co-writing sessions -Will's series, "How did we end up here?" -Missing the "hang" -Marvel or Star Wars? -Haters -Played with Aldean early on and they helped him save their show   Contact:  www.willhoge.com IG: @willhoge       _____________________________   The Rich Redmond Show is about all things music, motivation and success. Josh Gallagher writes songs destined to root themselves inside your brain and bring you back to the first moment you heard them, every time you listen; he’s not just making music, he’s crafting memories. Doggedly likable and unashamedly himself, the Pennsylvania native has a ‘no-bullshit’ kind of charm, earning praise from the likes of Rolling Stone and CMT, along with some of country music’s greatest heroes. “This kid,” Garth Brooks said of Gallagher, “as soon as he opens his mouth — you believe him.” In 2016, Josh Gallagher forced the world to rear its head on season 11 of NBC’s The Voice, making history as the first country artist coach Adam Levine has ever led to the show’s finale. Since then, Josh Gallagher has proved he can hold his own on stage with Randy Houser, Eric Paslay, Lee Ann Womack, Cole Swindell and more. Gallagher’s video “How ‘Bout You” held the No. 1 spot on CMT’s 12-Pack Countdown for 5 consecutive weeks, where he was also spotlighted as a rising star through the network’s Artist Discovery initiative. In a genre with blurred lines and pandering hits running on borrowed time, Josh Gallagher has established his own distinct voice, showing no sign of fading away quietly. Following the May 2019 release of his debut project Josh Gallagher (EP), JG brought the country music community to its knees with the fall single and music video “Boots Like Mine”. The video ultimately led to Gallagher breaking his own record, spending 8 weeks at #1 on CMT Music’s 12-Pack Countdown. Following the enormous success of “Boots Like Mine”, Josh Gallagher announced the release of his sophomore EP Turn Around Town. Billboard premiered the single “Long Week Longneck”, giving fans a first glimpse at Gallagher’s sophomore EP. Turn Around Town debuted at #10 on iTunes’ Country Chart on Friday, March 27. MoxieTalk with Kirt Jacobs #312: Clare Dunn

MoxieTalk with Kirt Jacobs

A tractor cab might not seem like the ideal place for an aspiring artist to nurture her musical dreams, but it sure did the trick for Clare Dunn. Growing up in tiny Two Buttes, Colorado (population: 43), she spent days at a time helping plow and plant the family farm, sharpening her ears with uninterrupted music-listening in the driver’s seat, even as she strengthened her work ethic. “That’s where a lot of my creativity came from and where a lot of my vision was forged, was just having nothing else to do other than listen to music and dream all day long in the vast wide open of those plains,” she reflects. By the time the genial, grounded Great Plains native got the chance to record for MCA Nashville, she had fine-tuned her creative vision and was ready to do what it would take to make it a reality, which landed her in a truly unique position: she is the only female country artist in recent memory to have a hand in all of the writing, arranging and producing for her debut release, the Clare Dunn EP. “I remember feeling like, ‘I know that I’m asking my label to take this tremendous leap of faith on me. I will be in the studio day and night. I will go until it’s right,’” says the guitar-slinging singer and songwriter. “I feel so grateful that I’ve had a team around me that’s allowed me to do that and supported me every step of the way.” True to her word, Dunn spent virtually every waking moment holed up in The Cave at Nashville’s House of Blues studios, crafting her standout sound beneath the watchful eye of a Chuck Berry portrait with such A-list collaborators as Terry McBride, Jesse Frasure, and Ben West. And it definitely paid off. The hooks have irresistible pop-rock punch, the sentiments are shot through with heartland rock grit, the vocals show R&B-schooled rhythmic daring and the arrangements are both towering and dynamic. Every lick of guitar on there, from agile melodic figures to aggressive shredding, is hers. “I think there’s, like, one song where I didn’t play a mandolin part or something like that,” she says. “But other than that, every lead part is my playing—acoustic, electric, everything.” That goes for all of the vocal parts, too—except for a solitary Eric Paslay guest harmony. Dunn doesn’t sound quite like any other singer in any genre, but her sumptuous lower range and the attitude and lustiness she summons whenever it suits the song recalls such world-class pop performers as Pink or Annie Lennox. In her teens, Dunn geeked out over a VH1 “Behind the Music” documentary that showed Fleetwood Mac working out their meticulous vocal arrangements, and in the studio, she might devote as many as a dozen tracks to doubling the melody in a different octave or layering precision harmonies, which adds to the sheer size of her sound. Dunn began paying her dues back in southeast Colorado, where she grew up the second of two daughters born into a long line of farmers and ranchers. “We didn’t have any brothers,” she says. “We did basically everything that boys would normally do, driving 18-wheelers, combines, tractors. I was very grateful that my parents raised us with the mentality that we didn’t even think about it; it was just normal for us to do all that stuff. We were a small family operation, and it’s all hands on deck, all the time.” In her early years, Dunn soaked up her parents’ favorite classic rock and country records—lots of Bob Seger titles among them—and stocked up on Top 40 singles when the family made the trek to a store in a neighboring town that actually had a record bin. She also absorbed all manner of rhythmic pop and R&B during marathon dance classes, so devoted to her hip-hop dance team that she won a scholarship to study with Janet Jackson’s backup dancers in California. Says Dunn, “My mom wore out an engine in a Suburban hauling me back and forth to dance. I couldn’t go every day like the other kids, because I lived an hour away. So I would do makeup days, and spend all day from 10 in the morning to 10 o’clock at night just learning dances so that I could be in the recitals and competitions. Dance, for me, is such a form of expression. When I’m making music, I’m thinking about it from a dance perspective—beats and musicality and phrasing.” For all of her sonic smarts, the aspiring musician lived in a town with zero places to play live shows, and she had no clue how to pursue her dream after high school until she heard about the music business program at Nashville’s Belmont University. The private school was out of her family’s price range, but she didn’t let that stop her, raising a big chunk of her tuition by driving a silage truck. “Anytime that there wasn’t school going on,” she recalls, “I was on that truck. Spring break, summer break, fall break. If you could’ve grown silage in December, I would’ve been on it over Christmas break. Whenever I couldn’t be home to drive the truck, my family kept the wheels rolling. My mom, dad and sister all drove it for me when I couldn’t be there due to classes or internships.” It wasn’t until Dunn got to college that she learned how to play guitar. Unlike a lot of dorm room dabblers, she wasn’t content to just reach the point where she could accompany herself by strumming basic chords. “Whenever I’d try to talk to a guitar player and explain how I heard things, I could never explain it,” she says. “So I thought, ‘If I can’t explain it to them, I’d better see if I can learn how to do it myself, so I can get it the way that I hear it in my head.’ Lead guitar, for me, was where it was at. I had no interest in learning G, C, and D and stopping. I wanted to be able to sing on guitar.” After college, Dunn signed a deal that went sour and turned her attention to building a grassroots following through decidedly unglamorous touring. “I loaded up me and three guys in a four-door F-150 pickup and a trailer and we took off,” she laughs. “We put 100,000 miles on it in just a little over a year. We played bars—teeny, tiny bars—and honky-tonks and festivals. It was very bleak to start out with, pinching pennies, trying to magically make a dollar turn into three dollars, trying to keep morale up. Like, ‘I know we played for two people tonight, guys, but it’s fine. We’re gonna get beyond it!’ My family helped me then too. They believed in me so much that they were willing to sacrifice in order to help me build that following to get a record deal.” The audience quickly multiplied when SiriusXM’s The Highway channel put Dunn’s flirtatious number “Cowboy Side of You” in rotation, and the fans who came out to the shows found a vital, confident band leader stomping around, swapping fearsome solos and singing likes she meant it. Universal Music Group Nashville soon snatched her up, and she attracted in-demand co-writers like Paslay, West, Frasure, McBride, Tom Douglas, Liz Rose, Hillary Lindsey, Troy Verges, Chris Lindsey, Brett James, and Ryan Beaver, and hit the road with many of her musical heroes including Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan, and Seger, who hand-picked Dunn as direct support on his Ride Out Tour. Now, that her with-it, down-home vision is captured on record and her sensuous single “Tuxedo” is impacting the country radio, Dunn is in the position to bring her music back to the people and places that taught her what determination was in the first place. “I can confidently say I would not be in this chair had it not been for that work ethic my parents and community instilled in me,” says the forward-thinking, farm-bred artist. “It’s been a tough road getting here and it’s taken longer than I would’ve liked, but I’ve always felt confident in setting and pursuing my goals. That work ethic is what drove me to learn how to play, and to go back out and play another show for ten people. Where I’m from, that’s just what you do—you work.”

He is touring right now I caught up with him, tpaslay his is several weeks ago actually but there's nothing dated here. I wanted to talk to him again. He was first on the show back in 2017. Because in addition to being diagnosed with type one at age 10. He is now a podcast host. He started Level With Me this year. I'm not sure if he's coming back with that or if it was a one season thing when we talked to him quite worked it out. It's a branded podcast with Dexcom. But we had fun talking about the technical side of podcasting, and what he got out of meeting so many people living with type one. So here is my talk with Eric Paslay.   Eric, welcome back to the show. I'm excited to talk to you again. Thanks for joining me.   Eric Paslay  7:29 Thank you, Stacey. Good to be back.   Stacey Simms  7:31 Alright, so put your podcaster hat on. And I wanted to talk to you about that. Because truly, you know, doing a show like that is such an incredible experience. I'm not sure people realize how much fun it is to be on this side of the microphone, you know, talking to other people going through experiences with type one. What was it like for you to do that?   Eric Paslay  7:54 It's just it was it was a lot of fun. I mean, you know, it's fun to get to talk to people. There's so many awesome podcasts. out there about juvenile diabetes, and you're a rock star with Diabetes Connections. And I think it was just fun doing Level With Me we get to go visit people, at their houses where they're at. And kind of you kind of hear what life's like with diabetes. I think a lot of times it's either you have diabetes, the world's ending or I'm overcoming and that's on everything, you know, I can do anything and a lot of times you don't talk about the in between and and I think that's what these podcasts are great for is just talking about these things happening. And with level with me, we just got to talk about real life of, of how spouses and parents like you know, you have a 14 year old son with diabetes, being a parent and just kind of all the day to day activities and things that you did to deal with having diabetes and it was just it was a lot of fun. As you know, there's just incredible people all around the world and it's fun meeting up with type one diabetics that really live life to the fullest.   Stacey Simms  8:57 As I said, though, it's a different hat for you to wear well. What made you want to do something like this?   Eric Paslay  9:03 I'm not just talking about, talking helps people get used to talking about stuff. You know, I mean, I think there's a lot of type one diabetics who hide it from the world. And it's like, how you go to work and no knows you're diabetic? What if you actually do have a crazy low sugar level happen? What are they going to do? They're just going to not know you're diabetic. You know, I think a lot of people are afraid to talk about it because they're either ashamed or they think they're not tough enough and it's like, you should be excited. We're like living in a time where we're we're getting to survive as diabetics.   But you know, I'm not afraid of a microphone on and when we thought, hey, let's let's do a cool little podcast. I was like, sign me up. That sounds like a good idea. And, and it sounds like a great way to get to meet great people and, and just spread the news that you really can't do anything. With me traveling around on the road all the time. It's crazy, crazy, crazy life. of just traveling all the time. Not a lot of people, Lot early flights, late shows that it's cool. Just getting to talk about all the devices I know y'all talk about with the CGM Dexcom and insulin pumps and just all these cool things that really help you live life and not let diabetes get in the way too much.   Stacey Simms  10:15 Yeah, let's talk about that. Because you know, you've been on the show before and shared a lot about how you do it on the road. But tell us a little bit about your routine these days with those early flights. As you mentioned, it's kind of a crazy schedule. Anything you've learned that you can pass along.   Eric Paslay  10:27 I don't know protein bars don't have tons of carbs but they let me cruise for a good time. I've learned that, you know, I think it's it really is finally getting a CGM. It's like truly life changing. It's you hear the beats that beep beep bepp and you go Okay, I need some sugar or the beep and go Wow, my insulin is not working. You know, Everyone does that sound you know, in the middle of the night they're like, Oh, no. What do you think? Protein bar time.   When did you start wearing a CGM?   About a few years, and it's truly life changing, it's it really is mind blowing thinking 100 years ago, they figured out these proteins make a thing called insulin and keeps us alive. And to think that there's we're holding a small TV in our hand that tells our blood sugar level. Yeah, I mean, that we can share with friends on a phone is crazy. It's it's truly amazing to see how science and just it's just amazing science and technologies coming together. And it's exciting to see in the next even 10 20, 30 years, what happens with taking care of diabetes and just all kinds of sicknesses, just all the information coming together and people figuring it out. And you talk about on your show. There's just so many cool things happening. I got to do an amazing tour at Vanderbilt here in Nashville a couple weeks back with Dr. Powers. He's my doctor here and it's just exciting to see people doing such amazing research, trying to figure out the immune system And everything with beta cells. Everything that a type 1 diabetic is made out of, trying to reset all those things. It's cool to just just hear how many people really are out there trying to figure out a cure. And until we get a cure, figure out amazingly just easy ways to treat yourself.   Stacey Simms  12:17 I'm curious with the CGM, you know, because you were diagnosed it 10 right? Yeah. What your mom and dad might think of a CGM. Do you share with them now as an adult?   Eric Paslay  12:28 No, I don't sshare with them now see how they're fine. They (laughs). I share with my wife. Now I share with my wife so she knows where I'm at when I'm on the road, you know, early in the morning, she can check and see if my blood sugar levels cruising. And I share with my band so my tour manager watches my blood sugar level on the road while I'm on stage. And that's insane. It's amazing. He’ll let me know over our in ear monitors were note the crowd doesn't even know what's happening. He'll be like, Hey, you got an arrow down. Orange juice, you know, I'll go over and drink out of Dixie cup. The crowd thinks I'm just partying along and I'm, I am I'm making sure the party keeps going and get some sugar in me. And it really is amazing. It's like a magic trick and I think back to 20 some odd years of finger pricks and and thinking how much picture I really didn't know like really what was the patterns of my blood sugar level and getting to see that on a graph now, but with the CGM it’s is truly amazing and, and I think, hopefully, you know, adding more years to my life with with taking even better control of my blood sugar levels.   Stacey Simms  13:36 Let's talk a little more of the podcast because one of the really nice things about yours is you're able to get out of the studio, you know, if you haven't listened to half the show, he he kind of meets with the people he's talking to or hangs out with the family for a while and then the second half, they're in the studio. So it's a really nice mix. And I'm just I'm always curious from a technical standpoint, how are you doing the stuff on the road? I'm gonna get technical here. Are you wearing a mic? Do you have a crew How's it all work? (commercial break) Right back to Eric in just a moment I'll answer that question. But first diabetes Connections is brought to you by one touch handwriting your blood glucose levels is the ultimate throwback, the one touch Vario flex meter seamlessly syncs with the free onetouch reveal mobile app to create your dynamic electronic log book. And when you choose the onetouch reveal mobile app, you'll be joining thousands of other people living with diabetes. In fact, as of this past October, one touch revealed was the number one downloaded diabetes management app in the US, Canada, France and the UK to upgrade today to the one touch Vario flex meter and onetouch reveal mobile app, visit diabetes dash connections.com and click on the one touch logo. Now back to Eric talking about production of his podcast.   Eric Paslay  14:52 Yeah, there’s a crew, they go out, hang out with the families that we're talking with and just kind of get the sounds of their life where they're at their family. He's running around. I think a lot of times when you're in the studio you can talk about it but you don't really hear the sounds of real life happening sometimes and it shouldn't really is just a just a sweet moment where we get to go and hang out at people's houses or where they're living and hear everyday sounds of being there.  I think it helps people who’ve just been diagnosed or that had been diagnosed for many years to realize you're not alone. And there's a lot of people going through type one diabetes and there's a lot of spouses and kids and family members who have one people they love with Type One Diabetes and just how do you live with that every day. And and it really is, I think it's a really cool thing that we get to do is go hang out with the families for the we saw on the national need to hang out with Blackbird Studios here in Nashville where tons of bands record every year so it's fun for them to come see that and I get to tell him some stories of hair cut my album in here and that is fun. It really is one thing on the podcast I always try to make sure is like you Not just dealing with diabetic, you're a human being like, you're not just to do that back your mother, your father, your brother, your sister, your professional, your student. And I that was one thing I always try to make sure people remember that they don't just wear I'm a diabetic t shirt everywhere they go. It's like no, you said one ingredient of your life, not your whole life, even though it definitely is a big part of how your engine runs. But just making sure people don't just categorize themselves only as diabetic.   Stacey Simms  16:30 Yeah, that's what I say to a lot of parents Remember, you're raising a child, not a number. You know, worry less about that straight line and more about is your kids happy.   Eric Paslay  16:37 Raising child not a number. I love that.   Stacey Simms  16:40 And this is really a dumb question for people who are not  in podcasting or in broadcasting. But I'm always curious, is there different mic technique? You know, when you're talking into the microphone and interviewing these people, and then you're singing or playing instruments, you know, are there different things that you need to do in the studio?   Eric Paslay  16:57 I don't, you know, talking to the mic, and I mean, Singing a lot of times, you know you do the vocal set maybe I'll try the vocal fade while the next podcast be like it's so far away from you. When your blood sugar levels everybody wants to be how do you level with it? I mean, it's just like we were just talking with this podcast right now and it's amazing just the technology we have from, from lapel mics where you can hide a mic on you to just a big old studio mic that you've used in radio for years. It's, there's so many cool ways to do it. It truly is amazing, just, I mean, and there's so many podcasts out now from anything and it's just so easy to really record a podcast these days with a computer and a home studio and, and all that and it's, we always joke in the music business. The coolest thing about a home studio is you have a home studio. The worst thing about studios, you can have a home studio. Is it good for music? Is it bad for music? I don't know. You know, there's a lot of music, but it's it really is amazing To do this right now people getting to hear to their little speakers wherever they're flying in the sky or driving the car, on their smartphone to watch them the device being when you're when you're hopefully cruising on a good good level.   Stacey Simms  18:15 So you know you mentioned making music of course we haven't talked about that at all. Are you still having fun? What's you know anything new? Eric Paslay  18:24 Heck yeah. earlier today I've been talking about going on tour and Europe here soon and get back for a few days in Nashville and then Australia for a week. And just traveling around we've got a live album from live in Glasgow that's coming out we recorded it  last summer in Glasgow, Scotland and have all the hits I've written for myself other people so we'll have the five number one songs on there and it's great and excited for that to come out and people get to hear the whole band and hear us live. Fun show have a great crowd and Glasgow Scotland and and then I've got an album that we just pretty much are mixing and kind of putting the final touches on that'll be out probably early next year. So got a live album in a studio album that are coming out and I'm excited to go tour and and play these songs and, and people get to hear how great the band is when we come to your town here. But a lot of really, really exciting things happening.   Stacey Simms  19:21 Keeping busy man, thank you so much for joining me. I really appreciate you spending some time Welcome to the world of podcasting. I'm so glad you did it.   Eric Paslay  19:29 Thank you, I think yeah, I think the more of us talking about taking care of that it is the more people will be unafraid of asking a question of Hey, I'm having trouble with high blood sugar levels at night or when I eat this. I it doesn't work. You know, I think the more we talk about that, the and more unafraid kids will be to raise their hand and class when they need to go see the nurse. I really was I was always afraid to like disrupt class, something when I'm sitting there and I can feel my blood sugar level crashing. Hopefully a little just people talking about it will help people not be afraid to get up from the meeting and go get take care of their blood sugar level so they can keep rockin and and have a good time doing it.

Erik Dylan has a story to tell. It’s one of the qualities that drew Kip Moore, who discovered Dylan at an open mic night in 2011 to bring him to his publisher Brett James, and attracted artists including Kip himself, Eric Paslay, Justin Moore, Eli Young Band, Thompson Square, Chad Brownlee, Brent Cobb and even Hinder to record his songs. He writes on Music Row with many of Nashville's hitmakers, but Erik will gladly tell anyone that his happiest moments in songwriting occured at his hero Guy Clark's workshop over black coffee. It’s not just his country colleagues that own a room with his sounds. The fifth generation Kansan has shared stages with some of the biggest names in music, from Lynyrd Skynyrd to Reckless Kelly. “If I drive ten hours in one direction to play a show and drive ten hours back that night to get to my family, those forty-five minutes on stage have to count,” he says. Heart of a Flatland Boy is a sonic collection five years in the making. The project was produced by Dylan, Randy Montana and Paul Cossette at Quad Studios in Nashville, TN.  Erik wrote the entire record with a handful of his favorite songwriters including Montana, Driver Williams (Eric Church Band), Douglas Waterman, Westin Davis, Andrew DeRoberts, Jake Mitchell and Adam James. “This album is 100% organic. No fluff. I played guitar and tracked vocals live with the band in the studio and I truly love what happened. It's not perfect—and I didn't want it to be perfect. I wanted it to be me," says Erik.

Hey everybody!  I'm Jennifer Vickery… so glad you’ve joined us for another Inside Music Row.  We have lots in store for you today, so let’s get started.  The guys from Florida Georgia Line are giving new meaning to their six time platinum hit song “Cruise.”  Instead of a Chevy with a lift kit, they’re moving on up with their own “This Is How We Cruise” music festival at sea.  Look for Nelly, Thomas Rhett, Colt Ford, and plenty of other special guests to get in on the “Cruise.”  Fans are welcome to join them by signing up at F-G-L Cruise dot com.    Legendary newsman Dan Rather recently spent some time in Music City, and was welcomed by the Grand Ole Opry as a special guest announcer.  After taking the microphone, he recalled growing up as a fan of the Opry and country music in Texas.  The Opry is currently looking ahead to the 90th anniversary celebration next year, so I wouldn’t be too surprised to see him back soon.   Charlie Daniels is celebrating the release of his new “Off The Grid” album with a new national tour.  Look for the music legend to perform about a hundred dates around the country through the end of the year.  Charlie says that ‘having new material to play on the live show is like pouring a little hot sauce on your morning eggs, just adds a little extra zest to the set.’   Cassadee Pope didn’t waste any tears as she was presented with a platinum plaque at the Grand Ole Opry.  She performed her debut hit “Wasting All These Tears” on the hallowed Opry stage as well as her new single “I Wish I Could Break Your Heart” before being surprised backstage with a plaque and special heart-shaped cake.  Look for Cassadee on the road this summer when she joins Tim McGraw’s “Sundown Heaven Town 20-14” tour.   Top wedding website The Knot dot com has posted its “twelve hottest wedding songs for 20-14,” and Lee Brice’s “I Don’t Dance” was the number one pick.  The song was originally written as a wedding gift to Lee’s wife Sara when they were married last April.  Written about a shy groom’s first dance, they say the song is perfect for dancing, despite the title.   Now it's time to go “Inside The Song.”  Rob Crosby co-wrote a cool track with Rose Falcon and Eric Paslay, which Eric took all the way to number one.  Rob told us all about how “Friday Night” got started.

Eric Paslay is no stranger to number one hits.  He’s already earned number ones with hits like “Barefoot Blue Jean Night,” “Even If It Breaks Your Heart,” and “Angel Eyes” as a songwriter, but he recently hit the top spot on the charts for the first time as an artist with “Friday Night.”  Co-written with Rose Falcon and Rob Crosby, “Friday Night” is Eric’s third single released as an artist since signing with EMI in 2011.  Kelly Lynn caught up with the honorees at a party at the Country Music Association to celebrate that song’s success.

Love and Theft has been through a lot of changes in a short amount of time, but celebrating a number one single is a change they sure are enjoying.  "Angel Eyes" is the duo's first bumber one hit, and is the lead single off their self-titled RCA Nashville release.  Co-written by Love and Theft's Eric Gunderson, Jeff Coplan and Eric Paslay, the song hit number one in late August.  We had a chance to catch up with the honorees at a party at ASCAP to celebrate.

We kick off another Inside Music Row with the mention of Kellie Pickler.  Kellie has recently buzzed her hair with best friend Summer Holt Miller when they found out Summer had been diagnosed with breast cancer.  Little Big Town is also in the news as they have partnered up with ConAgra Foods for the "Child Hunger Ends Here" campaign.  The initiative is part of the company's ongoing efforts to end child hunger in the United States, where there are more than 16 million kids impacted by food insecurity.  Also in the news is The Rascal Flatts - they are going into the restaurant business.  The first location in Phoenix will feature a state-of-the-art soundstage, two bars, a retail area and Flatts Lounge.  We also discuss Mark Chesnutt as he is the first country artist to release a blu-ray 3D disc of a live performance.  Scotty McCreery is up next as he is set to release his first holiday collection October 16th, "Christmas with Scotty McCreery."  Finally, we go Inside The Song with co-writers Will Hoge and Eric Paslay as they talk about a song they wrote called "Even If It Breaks Your Heart," which Eli Young Band took all the way to number one.
