The episode kicks off with Kid A.G. and Hat Trick yapping about her fucking eyebrows like it's the goddamn end-all of human existence, but then she drops the bomb about not wanting some dude's cock slapping her in the face. "In my fucking mouth, not my fucking face" is the quote of the fucking century, and it's pure fucking gold. Then they dive into the Super Bowl, or rather, how Kid couldn't give two shits about watching that crap. He's out here questioning the relevance of rap beef like it's some kindergarten pussy fight, with a special shoutout to Trump looking like a fucking sore thumb in the crowd. Moving on to music festivals, Kid's all about the "hot bitches" at Faster Horses, not the fucking music. He'd rather sneak in for free than pay for that country shit, because let's be real, his motivation is pussy, not fucking tunes. Time blindness? That's the new excuse for being a lazy-ass fuck, and Kid's calling it out like it's his fucking life's mission. "Alarms are for pussies" is his mantra, teaching responsibility with the subtlety of a fucking sledgehammer to the face. Kid shares his night out, where he thinks he got fucking roofied, turning this story into a fucking cautionary tale or a comedy of errors, depending on if you're laughing or crying into your fucking beer. Polyamory? Kid dissects that shit like it's fucking biology class for perverts, wondering how the fuck anyone manages to get along with so many dicks and snatches in one goddamn place. And then there's the talk about vagina tattoos, because why the fuck not? He throws in some vulgar-ass science about menopause and labia minora like it's sex ed gone fucking wild. They wrap up with the absurd idea of getting your cock tattooed, turning it into a visual comedy that's both fucking hilarious and terrifying as fuck. "Stay hard for the tattoo" is advice Kid gives out like it's a survival tip in the jungle of fucking debauchery. Listen in, Go Deep.

Wormhole techno from a DJ you need to know. KYRUH is a high-impact specialist forced in the crucible of modern NYC's notable spaces, including WIRE, Dweller and Bossa Nova Civic Club. Their sound is that of a DJ skilled at applying waves of pressure without requiring shortcuts through obvious terrain, adept at hammering it without defaulting to speed alone. After years burning a hole through the American underground, 2024 is proving to be a tipping point. KYRUH's appearance on Kelela remix compilation RAVE:N in early spring lit the touchpaper for a run of gritty productions and increasingly prominent slots across North America and Europe. The tracklist for their RA Podcast goes deep, accommodating contemporary producers like x3butterfly and Faster Horses alongside veterans Lady Starlight, Femanyst, House of God resident Paul Damage Bailey and underrated Swedish ripper Tobias Von Hoftsen. To those still wondering where to find 'proper techno' in 2024: look no further. @kyruhx Read more at ra.co/podcast/945

Dan Smalley may just now be making a name for himself, but he sings with the voice of experience. The Alaska born military brat who came of age in Shreveport, Louisiana, has a way of making you believe what he's singing. Smalley expresses a fresh take on Country music that knows tradition, inspired by the greats of the genre and infused with the swampy sounds of his roots, the Gospel of hardwood church pews and the impassioned delivery of Soul music. Artists like Merle Haggard, Ray Charles, Waylon Jennings, Al Green, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and other legends provided inspiration, while the against-the-grain success of Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson drew him to Nashville. There, he worked with producer Keith Stegall on his Debut EP IF I'M BEING HONEST which came out in 2020 in the midst of a global pandemic. From there Smalley navigated in and out of Major Record deals and honed his direction after producing his first Full-Length Record THE STATE OF COUNTRY MUSIC, set to release Independently(Smallside Records) through Onerpm May 10, 2024. As a songwriter, artists like Ashley McBryde(Grammy Nominated album “Never Will”) Trace Adkins, Randall King, Jerrod Nieman, Makayla Lynn, Dillon Carmichael and others have included Smalley co-writes on their recent releases. Dan's delivery on stage has landed him on bills alongside Willie Nelson, Allison Kraus, Turnpike Troubadours, Ashley McBryde, Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood, Eli Young Band, Justin Moore, Dwight Yoakam, Randy Rogers Band, Ryan Bingham and a list of notable others both in the US and abroad. Smalley has played some of the greatest festivals in the world(Faster Horses, Country Fest, Frank Brown Songwriter, Nashville Nights International Songwriter Festival)and is making his “Buckle and Boots”(Manchester) Debut in May 2024 as well as his Heartland Fest(Denmark) Debut in June of 2024 after his most recent UK/DK Spring Tour through Glasgow, Belfast, England and Denmark. Faster Horses | A podcast about UI design, user experience, UX design, product and technology
It seems that people are very often confusing a Design System with a component library. The differences are nuanced, drawing the line between those two will be hard, and there's no right or wrong — but maybe this story might help us understand those differences a little bit better, and maybe it will help us understand the effort it takes to build and maintain a Design System. It is more than just a UI Library. The whole purpose of a Design System is to define the design principles, style guide, patterns, content tone, and the rules and specifications of the “reusable” components. These rules are very specific to the product and can differ from company to company. When does a UI library turn into a design system? For a design system to thrive and survive, it needs a sufficient level of management:Who's making the decisions? Modern design systems have a product manager who's driving decisions, assertively aligning with partners, and serving as the go-to person.Who's doing the work? Sustaining a design system can involve a significant amount of design, development, writing, and other work done by people committed (at least partially, > 4hr/week) to the endeavour.Who's paying for it? It's near impossible for a system to survive long-term without a sponsor deliberately providing a budget in the form of properly allocated time. What are each of you working on right now, and where do you record and prioritise things you might work on later? Yup, time for task management, which many high-performing teams increasingly formalise into a backlog over sprints using tools like Trello and Jira. What can your customers (products using the system) expect over the next 6–12 months? Don't discount the power of an effective, concisely communicated system roadmap. It generates awareness, discussion, faith that you've got your act together, and trust that what you do provides for what they need. A Design System isn't a Project. It's a Product, Serving Products. Discuss! All this and more are answered in this episode of Faster Horses.

Design systems have become a key part of user experience, design and development, but what should it consist of? We have a good old poke around, question atomic design, figure out audiences and how to effectively communicate what the core concept of design systems are, why we use them and is Brad Frost right.Should print and digital guidelines fit into a single system? We chuck in the patterns and chuck out the chintz, with topical tangents, wrapped in the UX of a squidgy scotch egg.All this and more are answered in this episode of Faster Horses.

So what's the difference between design language and tone of voice? Where are the boundaries between the tone of voice and design language, and who leads the strategy of these? Are they interchangeable? In literature, the Tone of Voice refers to the author's feelings towards the subject, as expressed through the writing itself. Writing for the web is obviously different from writing prose (or at least it should be since web users read very little.) Still, every scrap of writing on a page (from body copy to button labels and other UX copywriting) contributes to the tone of voice we're using to speak to our users (https://www.nngroup.com/articles/tone-of-voice-dimensions/).Visual communication is exceptionally complicated. It's diverse, boundless, and relentless. To induce a sense of clarity and coherence to it, we need to establish a series of constraints that will help us communicate with our end-users. This is where Design Language comes into play (https://www.uxpin.com/studio/blog/design-language/)Why are these important, and how can navigate those tricky workplace politics? All this and more are answered in this episode of Faster Horses.

There was a lot to unpack from a wild weekend in the racing world as Cj and Chris did their best to hammer out every detail that they could. The boys start the episode breaking down their weekends and what all happened in their crazy lives that lead to a late recording and even later release to this week's episode. From the fast thoughts of Cj's round the clock and round the region job. To Chris heading to the Irish Hills of Michigan to do some Country A$$ $#!t at Faster Horses where the music wasn't the only thing that was fast. But the fast thoughts didn't end there. As Formula One was over in France, this lead to what the boys thought of the F1 circus visiting the track made of 167 configurations and the land of Lavender fields. For one driver it was anything but fields of flowers and where rubber met the road a little too much and a lot too little. Back in the state Indycar was taking on their final oval race of the season with a double header weekend in Iowa. Where the race winning car on Saturday didn't quite make it to the end of the race on Sunday in a very sad and dangerous way. This leads many to speculate the idea of what if that racer can't race this coming weekend for the Harvest Grand Prix at Indianapolis. Lastly, Nascar headed to the mountains of Pennsylvania where the Tricky Triangle of Pocono took one competitor from racing on Sunday leaving the door open for a very early intro to the Cup Series for a very young, up and coming driver that now after recording we know will race again this weekend at Indy. There's many talking points this weekend and we try to crack down on all of them. Be ready to sit back and relax as we talk all things motorsports here at On the Chip. Aj and Wang come into episode 66 fresh off of moving from one residence to another (and ditching loads of STUFF they don't need along the way). And while Aj's knees crack... and Wang's groin hurts... we're reminded of some of the beauties of moving and what makes a neighborhood (and a fresh start) great. On this show, we talk over our latest unfortunate (yet hilarious) moving stories before Aj relives some of his finest memories from the biggest country music festival in Michigan. A short podcast about hackathons and my personal experiences, attending, organising and judging them.Hackathons are generally techno-creative events where delegates form teams in a physical location (Richterich, 2017) to solve a problem statement or brief defined by the organisers. Hackathons are generally competitive, with teams competing under the confines of limited time pressures for incentives such as prizes (Richterich, 2017).The conventional aim of a hackathon is for teams, or individuals, to practice collaborative software development. The first time the term 'hackathon' was used to describe an event gathering volunteers software developers working together on an open-source operating system, OpenBSD, in 1999 (Richterich, 2017).This episodes resources:https://www.hackathon.io/events (not hack.io – sorry).https://angelhack.comSpecial guest Niomi Wilshaw.Music by James Medd and artwork by Nick Tomlinson. For careers at Blue Prism, https://www.blueprism.com/who-we-are/culture-and-careers/Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/FasterHorses)

Things have been a little, strange lately. Everywhere. Design students say that a new culture will be born out of this period and will have its spill-over effects on for not just months but on several years to come. Popular opinion also suggests this forced upon change to New World Order was much needed for a lot of those who were betting and building technologies and solutions that were “too far advanced” to be adopted. A lot of us wouldn’t be relevant (economy value-add point of view) after the storm settles unless they seriously up-skill themselves to keep up. Value creation is the only way out and would probably be the only survivor. Hyper Cycle Map by Gartner Inc graphically represents maturity and adoption for technologies and applications. This assists an organization to understand where a product/technology is on the maturity curve and in turn help assess the risk profile of pursuing it. As a Founder or CEO of Product, there are pressing questions like “Do the rewards outweigh the risk?” I am no expert but these factors came out consistent whether in IT or Engineering from my personal experience. The following items act as a North Star to almost any business. Commercial Advantage Increased Productivity Cost Reduction Improved Efficiency Automation Digitization More the items your technology is able to tick off, the better are the chances of you staying afloat. Why? because as a consumer, you are always striving to achieve most of these. In short, build what your consumer wants. Yes, Henry Ford also said, “If I asked them what they want, they would have said Faster Horses”. But I am no Henry Ford. Also, the 3 Ts that I saw mattered were Team Traction Technology Everything else is noise.
Jason Aldean is headlining Faster Horses this summer - as long as he survives touring across the frozen Midwest. He called up WYCD’s Chuck, Rachael and Grunwald from Iowa to talk family, Faster Horses and producing up-and-comer Tyler Farr. “We’re going to North Dakota and all these places,” Aldean says, “and I’m like… I’ve got a sweatshirt… I’ve got a hoody.” But the cold can’t keep a good man down. Aldean goes on to talk about how much he’s enjoyed producing Tyler Farr, an up-and-comer who swung by WYCD’s MusicTown studio back in January. As busy as he gets on the road and coaching country’s new artists, Aldean’s family remains his highest priority. He loves experiencing his daughter Navy’s many firsts – including a first birthday and some very impressive first steps on dad’s tour bus. “It’s only fitting that she would take her first steps on a tour bus,” Aldean says. That tour bus will be coming to Brooklyn, Michigan for Faster Horses, July 17th – 19th, and Aldean couldn’t be more excited. “When the summer rolls around, and everybody’s ready to get outside and hit some of these festivals… it’s fun for us to get out there in that atmosphere.” Finally, Chuck tries to get some behind-the-scenes info on what Aldean’s next single will be off his November release 9. Aldean expertly evades Chuck's question - and his infamous parting words: "I love you, Man."
Live Nation's President of Country Touring, Brian O' Connell, called into the studio Wednesday (1/24) morning to give Chuck, Rachael and Grunwald the whos and whats of this year's Faster Horses Festival. "Obviously, we listen to the fans, and we pay attention to what they want," O'Connell says from his home base in Nashville, "And I think that, top-to-bottom, we have the best lineup we've ever had." Luke Combs, Thomas Rhett and Jason Aldean are headlining, supported by a long list of country's finest - including Kelsea Ballerini, Jon Pardi, and Terry Lawrence. In addition to a spectacular lineup, O'Connell also clued Chuck, Rachael and Grunwald into the latest upgrades to the Faster Horses experience. "We have three brand new camping areas," O'Connell tells them, all of which are powered and incredibly close to the festival entrances. The VIP experience has been "re-imagined" with new luxury features including "thick seats, two levels, cabanas on top" and more! "Chuck told me last year we had VIP..." Grunwald groans. Long story short, maybe he shouldn't have trusted Chuck. Faster Horses takes place at Michigan International Speedway. It was named the 2019 ACM Festival of the Year.

In part two of my conversation with Chuck Marohn we diver deeper into how he and his team are building a movement of one million people who care. We even explore a very interesting concept called temporal discounting, where we highly value things that valuable today, but discount things that are valuable in the future. We are biased to pay attention to things in the short term. The bottom line with the mess that we are today is that we created the mess that we are trying to disrupt. In the first episode, we talk about how change should come from neighborhood disruptors and not bureaucrats. In this conversation, we dive deeper into how we involve the average citizen in the building the world they want to live in. We do not have create or invent many new things. Many of the solutions to our problems are already in the system, but we are blinded by their desire for what we already know. Henry Ford famously said, “if I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.” In this conversation, we build on this by exploring how and why people ask for faster horses. A lot of it, is core to Chucks work. For example, if we slow down traffic, people get to their destinations faster. This counter intuitive notion is part of the faster horse’s metaphor because people’s paradigms and understandings of the world assume that going faster will give us the outcome we desire. For Chuck and his colleagues, their goal is to work them self out of jobs.

In part one of this very deep conversation with Charles (Chuck) Marohn, we explore his the deep insight has had from is media outlet Strong Town. Strong Town’s mission is to support a model of development that allows America’s cities, towns and neighborhoods to become financially strong and resilient. Strong Towns even has a few principles: •Strong cities, towns and neighborhoods cannot happen without strong citizens (people who care).•Local government is a platform for strong citizens to collaboratively build a prosperous place.•Financial solvency is a prerequisite for long term prosperity.•Land is the base resource from which community prosperity is built and sustained. It must not be squandered.•A transportation system is a means of creating prosperity in a community, not an end unto itself.•Job creation and economic growth are the results of a healthy local economy, not substitutes for onIn this conversation with Chuck we explore his journey in building a movement around the concept of Strong Towns. In this episode, he shares many lessons he has learned along the way and it is full of lots of insight. A few major questions stood out for me: •How do you become someone who has less answers and more questions? •How do we acknowledge that everyone has imperfections? •How do we learn to change shared relationship approach to how we build cities? One of the telling changes that stood out for me was that there are things we take as normal, that were once considered to be absurd ideas. Chuck describes how the notion that people living in the city would one day live in corn fields that were only accessible by cars, it would have been thought to be a crazy idea. Yet, that is what America has built. We call it the suburbs and there are body of assumptions that make living in the suburb inaccessible for poor people. This is just one example of how we can rethink the way we build villages and cities that work for more people.
