Neil Medley is one of the very first guys I met when I moved to Nashville about 20 years ago. Originally from Louisville, KY, he started his career in marketing but about 13 years ago he decided to go full time into songwriting. In this episode you're going to hear about that transition and how that move led him quickly to his first album cut with Luke Bryan. You'll hear about the songs he wrote after that like "Wasn't That Drunk" for the Josh Abbott Band that featured Carly Pearce as her first radio release. You'll hear about other songs he wrote for Kid Rock, Lindsay Ell, Jason Aldean and Tyler Farr along with his first #1 "Made For You" that he wrote with Benjy Davis and Joey Hyde for Jake Owen. Other than his songwriting success, I remember sitting in his back music room when I first moved to town and we would pass the guitar around. His voice was always really unique and special to me and I'm so excited about a new project he has coming up! He sent me a sneak peak of a new album he has written for himself, with him on vocals, just before we recorded this episode. It's so good and it's such a special album to Neil. Be looking for that album, called "South End Kid" coming out on September 29, 2023. Neil says he doesn't want to be blown away by the speakers, he wants to be pulled into them and that's exactly what this record was like for me. By the way, if you're around the Nashville, TN area at the end of September, Neil will be playing and promoting that record at The Listening Room on September 28. You'll hear more about the making of that project, his take on male/female ratio on radio and more in this episode. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did capturing a little bit of his story for you all. Let us know! Country-rocker Adam Rutledge is soaring to new heights with the release of his EP, Runway, which stands out with its “distinctive hybrid of country and rock, catchy guitar intros and lyrical depth” (Sports & Entertainment Nashville/Bob Paxman). The Roanoke, Va. native's first-class songwriting, referred to as “storytelling that features clever turns of phrase (Taste of Country/Sterling Whitaker), caught the attention of country music hitmaker Phil Vassar through a connection with longtime Vassar collaborator, Jeff Smith. This resulted in Vassar taking the fellow Virginian under his wing as a management client and opening act. “When I heard Phil Vassar was managing newcomer Adam Rutledge, I immediately had high expectations and when I heard him, he exceeded them. His songs are slices of life everyone can relate to brought to life with his warm, evocative voice and searing guitar. As a fellow Virginia native, I've got to say this guy is going to make the home folks proud!” said Billboard and Sounds Like Nashville contributor Deborah Evans Price. Adam is known for putting on high-energy live shows, so it's no surprise when he draws large crowds on the road. He has shared the stage with artists such as Chris Janson, Old Dominion, Lee Brice, Brothers Osborne, Drake White, Russell Dickerson, Lauren Alaina, Chase Rice, Phil Vassar, Tyler Farr and many more. His edgy, powerful sound doesn't blend in but does indeed fit in today's country sound. Adam's most recent music video for his single “Love Kickin' In” recently premiered on CMT.com and reached the #1 spot for most viewed video.
This week we welcome Mary Lou Turner and Jason Pritchett! Born in Hazard, Kentucky, Mary Lou Turner began her career as a regular on the famous Wheeling Jamboree radio show on WWVA in Wheeling, West Virginia. She began turning heads in 1974 with her first popular song, “All That Keeps Me Going”. She followed that success with several other songs that reached the top 50 on the U.S. Country Charts, including “It's Different With You”, “Love It Away”, and “Cheatin' Overtime”. Though a star in her own right, she may be best known for the duets she sang with Bill Anderson. The duo teamed up to produce hits in the top 25 on the U.S. Country Charts, including “I'm Way Ahead of You” and “Where Are You Going, Billy Boy”. The pair released “Sometimes” in 1976 which reached Number 1 on the Country Charts. That same year, she and Bill also released “That's What Made Me Love You” reaching number 7 with that hit. Mary Lou has performed in the theaters of Branson, Missouri for many years. She starred with both Boxcar Willie and Buck Trent, before joining the Grand Ladies of Country Music Show. She has a new album “A Sentimental Music Journey” recorded with the Heart Of Texas label. The album has 13 of Mary Lou's favorite songs including a duet with radio host, Dallas Wayne, of Sirius XM fame. Mary Lou commented, “ I've been singing since I was 12. I thought that a sentimental music journey was a good theme with some songs that are my favorites through the years. I also want to thank Tracy and Charla Pitcox for making this CD possible for the Heart Of Texas label. They are true friends to me and all of Country Music.” Mary Lou was awarded the “Living Legend” award during 2021 Branson Terry Awards Show. She and her husband, David, call the Ozarks home. For more information, visit her Facebook page. While growing up in Independence, Missouri, Jason Pritchett's whole life revolved around playing sports - football, basketball and baseball. His musical career didn't start until shortly after college. In 2002 Jason made the move to Branson where he got his first job in the “Echo Hollow Jubilee” at Silver Dollar City. Following Silver Dollar City he performed in several shows including “Lost In The 50's”, “Stuck On The 70's”, “50's At The Hop” and “Magnificent Country”. He joined the Grand Country family in 2007 and was the baritone singer for New South for several years. The high seas came calling for Jason and he spent some time performing on Carnival Cruise Lines. During that time he became a finalist on “America's Got Talent” (second season, 2007). After returning to Branson he became the music director for country recording artist Billy Dean. It was his musical relationship with Dean he got the opportunity to fulfill his lifelong dream and perform on the stage of the world-famous Grand Ole' Opry. After spending seven years with Dean, Pritchett got the opportunity to step out and front the band “Steel Horses,” and sign with Dean's label BDMG in 2015. The first week his song “Good Show,” which he co-wrote with Billy Dean, was released it topped out on the music charts at #16, making him the highest-debuting artist in 2017. It earned him “Red Carpet” status at the CMA Awards in Nashville, TN. These days, Jason is leading the charge for the NEW REVOLUTION of country music. Jason's first 5 radio songs have blazed into the top 40 charts in record time. In Jason's first week on the charts, he was the highest debuting artist with his single "Good Show" topping out at #16, earning him "Red Carpet" status at the CMA awards in Nashville TN. Jason has performed on tour, with performances opening for Randy Houser, Tyler Farr, Lee Brice, Thomas Rhett, Old Dominion, Chris Janson and Kelly Pickler to name a few..... Family has always been the most important aspect of his life. In August of 2009, Jason married the love of his life, Desta. She's a great singer and performer in her own right and you've seen her on some of your favorite Branson stages. Together they have three adorable children. When Jason isn't performing across the country, he and Desta can find you the perfect home or find a buyer for your home with their real estate business, Pritchett Team - Keller Williams Tri Lakes Realty. Growing up in Northeast Ohio, Styles Haury connected with music at a very early age. Styles formed his first band in the 4th grade, playing country music out of his dad's garage. Influenced by his favorite entertainers Kenny Chesney and AC/DC, he channeled that same energy into entertaining crowds of his own. He notes his live show has become a personal journey for him, one where he lets you in on with an infectious energy that leaves you wanting more. His upcoming debut song ‘A Man That Didn't Know Nothin' is the first in a series of autobiographical singles that make up his forthcoming debut album. “When you listen to the full record- starting with my first release, ‘ A Man That Didn't Know Nothin'-it tells the story of my life from front to back: from where I'm at so far, and the journey it took to get here. If you listen to this record from start to finish, you will know me. This record is Styles. And that starts with this first song.” Styles' talent has already earned him opening tour slots for Jake Owen, Brantley Gilbert, Brett Eldredge, Chris Jansen, Dwight Yoakam, Uncle Kracker, Tyler Farr, and most recently, Darius Rucker. An avid fisherman and hunter, Styles is equally committed to family, music and the outdoors, often citing his real-life inspiration in his songs, from marrying his hometown girlfriend, to the ups and downs of adulthood and fatherhood, his friendships and pastimes, to the peace he has found in the life he leads.

Australian-born and Alberta-raised, Gord Bamford stands as one of the most decorated artists in Canadian country music with an impressive 26 Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) awards, multi JUNO nominations and the only two-time winner out of Nashville's Country Music Association (CMA) receiving the 2013 & 2015 CMA Global Country Artist award. But it is his distinctive sound and songwriting ability that defines Gord Bamford as one of country music's best neo-traditional artists and like so many others that have come before him; Bamford is not an overnight success. He has spent the better part of the last 20 years honing his craft, working to get where he is today. Bamford is currently working on his 9th studio album, and recently released it's first single #REDNEK. Bamford's eighth studio album Neon Smoke was released in early 2018 containing the smash #1 chart topper ‘Dive Bar' and follows his Tin Roof album, winner of the 2016 CCMA ‘Album of The Year'. Tin Roof, nominated for the 2016 JUNO Country Album of The Year follows the Juno Nominated Country Junkie album and it's #1 hit song ‘When Your Lips Are So Close'. The 3-time CCMA ‘Male Artist of the Year' once again collaborates with distinguished songwriter/producer Phil O'Donnell (Blake Shelton, Tyler Farr, George Strait). “Phil and I instantly connected in the studio. Working with him really brought a fresh, new sound to this album and I'm really proud of the results,” said Gord. “Phil is truly a genius in the studio. Gord is a man who believes with his whole heart in giving back. The Gord Bamford Charitable Foundation has generated over $3.6 million since its inception in 2008 for children's charities such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, Big Brothers & Big Sisters, numerous children's hospitals across Canada and MUSICOUNTS. “Those organizations have had an impact on my life and that's why we do what we do. It's always great to get out, play music, be on stage and wake up every morning loving what I do. But probably the greatest thing I get to do is interact with a lot of these children and try to make a difference in their lives. It's hard to comprehend but it's an awesome thing to see a kid's face light up who is really sick and all he wants to do is go to Disneyland. It puts it all into perspective as to why I think God put me on earth to do what I do because it's helping other people.” That humble, likable approach is what continues to draw legions of new fans to Gord Bamford. But it's the music that keeps them loyal. Gord Bamford has the amazing ability to evolve, sense where his fans want to go, and take us all along with him
Old Dominion joined us to talk about their new single. The band's five members were are incredible songwriters. They have written hits for Luke Bryan, Cole Swindell, and Tyler Farr. Old Dominion arose during the waning days of bro-country, a genre the band's five members were partially responsible for as authors of hits for Luke Bryan, Cole Swindell, and Tyler Farr. Comprising four Virginians -- Matt Ramsey (lead singer, guitar), Geoff Sprung (bass, vocals), Whit Sellers (drums), Brad Tursi (guitar, vocals) -- and Detroit's Trevor Rosen (guitar, keyboards, vocals), the band formed in Nashville. Boasting top-flight modern country songwriters in Ramsey, Rosen, and Tursi (the Band Perry, Keith Urban, Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley, Chris Young, and Craig Morgan have all tracked Old Dominion songs), the group soon attracted a lot of attention.
This episode is with accomplished songwriter, Phillip Larue, as he takes us through his personal journey, how the music industry is changing and what spurs his creativity day to day. He has co-wrote with too many people to list but his most note able is the #1 country song "Whiskey My Water" with Tyler Farr.
