#812 | Ed and Wayne celebrate Manchester United's 3-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League. We expected a tough night but instead, led by the irrepressible Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire's sublime dribbling skills and Casimiro's renaissance, United secured a memorable victory. What a night! The hosts also talk about the implications of victory, which leaves United on the verge of another Europa League final - tp be played in the same San Mames stadium.
Billi (@SGPSoccer) breaks both Europa League semifinal 1st Legs, as Tottenham host Bodo Glimt, while Manchester United travel to Bilbao. It all comes down to the Europa League for Manchester United in what has been an abject season, and Ruben Amorim's side could easily be put in their place by Athletic Bilbao at the San Mames tonight. The Red Devils have not even been able to push for the top half in the Premier League this season, embarrassingly occupying 14th spot with four matches left to play. Mark celebrates a genuine golazo in Real's gutsy win over foul-happy Getafe that lifts the capital club just one point behind league leaders Barcelona (3:25), before Payton attempts to parse Flick's myriad midfield options in a suddenly must-win game for Barcelona at Mallorca (19:20). Plus, Mark previews one of Real Madrid's toughest away tests of the season, as the merengues head to the legendary San Mames stadium in Bilbao to take on Athletic Club (34:20).
In this episode, I review the first game week of the 2024/25 season and how Nigerian players across Europe fared in the weekend fixtures. I touched on impressive performances in the Premier League by Joe Aribo & Wilfred Ndidi respectively I also spoke on Ademola Lookman's transfer link to PSG & Fisayo Dele-Bashiru's impressive debut for Lazio in Serie A as the league continues to be a good omen for Super Eagles players Osimhen's next club continues to be a point of discussion while Victor Boniface & Nathan Tella picked up from where they left off last season by winning the German Super Cup on penalties against Stuttgart after Boniface opened the scoring. Discovery of the week has to be new star Chrisantus Uche for Getafe who scored on his La Liga debut in a 1-1 draw at San Mames against Athletico Bilbao & he looks like one hell of a talent! Tolu Arokodare & Cyriel Dessers both had impressive weekends for their respective club sides in Belgium & Scotland respectively I then round up the podcast by touching on the Ones to Watch for this week including UCL qualifiers for Slavia Prague's Igoh Ogbu against Lille & Sparta Prague's Victor Olatunji against Malmo Check out our YouTube channel where you can also watch the episode: https://bit.ly/NigeriaFootballWeekly Linktree - https://linktr.ee/nigeriafootballweekly Twitter - https://twitter.com/NFWPod Host: @GoonerTwin Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/nigeriafootballweekly/ TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@nigeriafootballweekly Facebook page Link - https://www.facebook.com/NigeriaFootballWeekly Email - nigeriafootballweekly@gmail.com Anchor Link: https://anchor.fm/nigeriafootballweekly Podfollow: https://podfollow.com/nigeria-football-weekly
Join the boys for week 2 La Liga action as Barcelona and Real Madrid both comeback and salvage draws, scoring some brilliant goals in the process. Payton discusses Barcelona's dreary performance against a ravenous Athletic Bilbao side in the San Mames (6:20), and Mark relives an absolutely bananas six-goal Battle with the Bats as Real Madrid somehow manage a point in what will surely end up as one of the games of the season (35:05).

It's also coming up to the end of the transfer window so plenty to talk about there.Running order: --Athletic's suffocating high press--Memphis delivers--Eric Garcia's tough day--Rik's ratings--Competition winner!--Umtiti and Pjanic--Can Barça sign anyone else? The BarcaBreakdown discusses the second game of the 2021-22 La Liga Season which resulted in a 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao. Ronald Koeman went with the same line-up as he did against La Real. The first half of the game had blunders from the likes of Eric Garcia and Neto. This allowed Inaki Williams to threaten us multiple times which finally resulted in a goal from Martinez. Braithwaite (who had an early chance on goal) and Greizmann were hardly seen on the ball for any time of forward play. To add to the dismay, Pique came off early in the game due to injury and was replaced by Araujo, who played wonderfully, even attempting a bicycle kick goal that was overturned. Positive highlights of the game came in the form of some beautiful offensive and defensive work rate from Frenkie De Jong, a stalwart in the midfield. Unfortunately, Pedri looked a little tied but still played well. He will be receiving a 2 week vacation to give him some rest time. Finally in the 75' Depay scored a well controlled rocket of a shot past the goal to equalize. Near the end of the game Depay went just wide to miss the net to take the lead. The result, a 1-1 draw at San Mames, leaves Barca with 4 points for the season. Koeman has his work ahead of him leading into next week's game at the Camp Nou against Getafe. This is an audio version of our YouTube show. Every game on Matchday 37 in the Spanish Primera Division will kick off at the same time this week. All action in Spain's top-flight will begin at 5:30pm to ensure all match results are fairly registered and without influence from other sides, with news trickling through to certain teams. So let's start our preview with a hugely important clash in the North of the country as Real Madrid. Go to Athletic Bilbao. Zinedine Zidane's must win this game at San Mames in order to keep their title hopes alive. They currently sit two points behind league leaders Atletico Madrid with two games to go. Speaking of Diego Simone's men, Atleti host Osasuna at the Wonda at exactly the same time. They'll know that if they can secure a win at home, the Liga title will be within touching distance for Los Rojiblancos. Game three also includes one of Spains heavyweights as Barcelona host Celta Vigo. The Blaugrana's title hopes are all but over following that draw with Levante last time out. It will take a huge effort and a lot of luck for them to overturn this deficit so late on in the season. Elche are pretty terrible. They're 19th in the division and now three points away from safety. They'll have to get something from their trip to Cadiz to ensure they have any chance of survival entering the final day of the season. Alaves' win last time out gave them a four-point buffer to the relegation zone, and they're looking pretty likely to remain up this season. Getafe just can't stop losing. They've lost 4 out of their last 5 games and they're hoping this season comes to an end as soon as possible. This weekend they take on Levante, another side who simply can't pick up a win. Elsewhere, Real Betis host Huesca, and Real Sociedad welcome Real Valladolid to San Sebastian. The penultimate game in our Primera Division betting preview is Eibar away to Valencia. The bottom side in Spain have had a mini-resurgence in recent weeks and have given themselves a real hope of survival. However, they're going to need to take all 3 points when they travel south in order to give themselves a reality of staying up. The final game of our betting preview is pretty tasty actually, as Villarreal host Sevilla. These two sides have been scrapping at the top-end of the table all season, and whilst Sevilla have fourth place in the bag already, Villarreal could still qualify for the Champions League should they win their Europa League final against Man United. Eduardo Siles is very well supported by the one-and-only Alvaro Romeo, a diligent and brilliant Spanish football expert. They're here to discuss all things Spanish football in this live show.
This is an audio version of our YouTube show. The action, as always, starts on Friday night. This time we begin in Valencia, as Levante host Real Valladolid. The hosts are up to 12th after just 2 defeats in their last 13. Their opponents, meanwhile, have just 1 win in 5 and really need to pick up points against the teams around them if they want to stay out of trouble this season. Saturday starts with bottom of the table Huesca at home to Villarreal. They've earned just 12 points all season and have one win to their name. But that doesn't stop Alvaro thinking they'll pick up points against Unai Emery's side. The visitors are up int 4th and have just 1 defeat from 25 in all competitions. The next game sees Sevilla welcome Cadiz to the Sanchez-Pizjuan. The Andalusians have finally started scoring some goals and they're looking in good form up in 6th. The Yellow Submarine are now down in 9th but they're huge odds this time out. 9.0 to beat Sevilla. Following that fixture, it's Real Sociedad against Real Betis. Sociedad are on a horrible run of form, having picked up just 7 points from a possible 27 since November. Betis can win this one in the San Sebastien, that's for sure. Defending champions Real Madrid play Alaves in the next game. Los Blancos will be expected to win this one quite easily. And they'll have to, if they want to maintain their title challenge against city-rivals Atletico. At the bottom of the table, Osasuna host Granada. The club from Pamplona haven't won in the league since October – that's 15 games. Granada, meanwhile, are odds of 3.23 to win this game. Interesting. Barcelona need wins to hunt down the leading pack above them. They go to 18th placed Elche on Saturday knowing that maximum points is the only result expected of them in this one. But! They'll be without Lionel Messi! The final game on Saturday sees Celta Vigo host Eibar in the north of Spain. Iago Aspas & Co. have hit rocky form at the worst time, with four defeats in a row. Alvaro reckons there's gonna be an upset in this one! Leaders Atletico Madrid are 7 points clear at the summit with a game in hand! That could be 10. Double figures. Wow. This week they're up against Valencia, a side that have kept in pretty close in all their games in recent weeks. Atletico to win to nil looks pretty appealing with odds of 2.20. Is this Diego Simeone's year once again? The final game of Matchday 20 sees Basque side Athletic take on Madrid minnows Getafe. The team from the north are better at San Mames than anywhere else, winning 5 of their last 8 league games there. They're slight favourites, and rightly so. Tom Beck is on presenting duty this week in Eduardo Siles' absence. Tom is extremely apologetic for the inconvenience and heartbreak this causes all our viewers. It's another extremely busy week of continental football across Europe and this time we're starting with Friday action in the north of the country. Athletic Bilbao host strugglers Huesca at San Mames. The visitors actually moved off the bottom of the table last time out with a 1-0 win over Alaves. Into Saturday, Atletico will look to firm up their title challengers when host Elche at the Wanda, then it's time for Barca to take to the field. Ronald Koeman's side play Real Sociedad on Wednesday as we upload this video. Will this game prove to be another dent into their recovery? Or will they secure a vital three points against the current leaders? Levante actually face Sociedad at home later the evening, whilst Villarreal – who have drawn four games in a row - go to Liga's bottom club Osasuna. The Pamplona club have won three games this season but find themselves at the foot of the table. Hardly fair! We wrap up Saturday's play as Sevilla host Real Valladolid. After Saturday is Sunday. We start in the north, with Celta at home to Alaves. The Galician club have got their mojo back and they're out the relegation zone and moving up the table with three wins on the bounce. After that, we've got the Andalusian derby to enjoy when Real Betis head to Los Carmenes. Cadiz, who currently sit seventh in the standings after a bright start, play Getafe on Sunday afternoon. The visitors have failed to win any of their previous seven league games, with their last win coming against Barcelona towards the end of October. Matchday 14 of La Liga is wrapped up on Saturday evening when Real Madrid go on their travels to the Basque country to face Eibar. Zinedine Zidane's side have gone on a three-game winning run and have moved themselves into third spot, level on points with the leaders. It's another big week of Spanish football! Eduardo Siles loves his Spanish football as much as he loves presenting this show (loads). This week he is once again joined by his compatriot and friend Alvaro Romeo to discuss all things Spanish football. They're here to analyse, preview and dissect La Liga's Matchday 13 action. This is an audio version of our YouTube video. We begin our Liga preview on Friday night as mid-table Athletic Bibao welcome relegation-threatened Celta Vigo to the San Mames. The Basque Country side have been up and down for the past few weeks, winning two, losing two and drawing one of their previous five games. Celta ended a run of eight games without a win last weekend. On Saturday, another side battling for survival are in action. 19th placed Levante, with one win to their name, play Getafe. Then, at 3.15pm (UK), we've got a superb game to bring you. Sevilla vs Real Madrid at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan! Josep Lopetegui's men have just come suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League, whilst Real Madrid aren't fairing much better in European competition. Later that day, two of La Liga's other big clubs are in action. Atletico Madrid – second in the table – play Real Valladolid, and Barcelona – not having a good time of it – go to surprise package Cadiz. Ronald Koeman's side have breezed through their Champions League qualification with five wins and a 100% record. They have more wins in Europe than La Liga this year. Into Sunday, Granada, a team seriously out of form, will be looking to bounce back when they play bottom club Huesca. The Aragonese are one of very few clubs across Europe's major divisions to still not have recorded a league win. Another club underperforming this campaign is Real Betis. Head coach Manuel Pellegrini is clinging to his position, but all could come tumbling down should they lose to Osasuna. The final two fixtures of the weekend see third-placed Villarreal take on Elche, currently in ninth, before the league leaders wrap up the Matchday 12 action. Real Sociedad have 24 points from their 11 games so far, conceding just five goals in the process. They travel to Alaves, the side that stunned Real Madrid last weekend. Are we in for another humbling? Eduardo Siles loves his Spanish football as much as he loves presenting this show (loads). This week he is once again joined by his compatriot and friend Alvaro Romeo to discuss all things Spanish football. They're getting so competitive with their tips it's like having Cristiano and Messi back together. They're here to analyse, preview and dissect La Liga's Matchday 11 action. Again Bilbao were able to beat FC Barcelona at San Mames as they knocked Barca out of the Copa Del Rey today. We discuss whether the big issue was with Setien's lineup or the Barca players performance. Piling on top of the game, issues between Sporting Director Abidal and Messi as well as issues with Messi and Ter Stegen have added to the stress. Hopefully Setien will prove that he is the man who can help us get through these issues and challenge for a trophy this season.
In the first episode of the podcast, we look at FC Barcelona's 0-3 win against Athletic Club in front of a crowd of 32,000 spectators to start the new year with three important points, increasing their dominance in the Primera Iberdrola.
This week we discuss the 4th Barca loss in their last 6 official regular season games. The downward skid that begin at Anfield continues. Though Valverde chose the same lineup that performed against Napoli, Bilbao at San Mames proved to be more difficult as a 89' goal by Arduriz sunk Barca and started our season with a loss. Thankfully Messi will be back for our first game at the Camp Nou against Betis on Sunday.
This week we discuss FC Barcelona's two preseason games against Napoli in the United States. We are extremely happy with how Dembele, Griezmann, and Frenkie de Jong have been getting up to speed and integrating into the team. We also address how Valverde will start the season at San Mames this Friday in our first La Liga game of the season. Finally, we make our predictions for the first two months of the season and try to figure out how the team will develop as the season starts.

James and Rob discuss Ibai Gomez's departure, the return of Raul Garcia, predict the next players to leave the San Mames, and forget about Jon Aurtenetxe.
