In February 2026, the last remaining nuclear arms control treaty bilateral between Russia and the United States is set to expire. The aim of the New START agreement was to reduce and limit the number of strategic nuclear warheads, but once this treaty comes to an end it means there will no longer be rules on the cap of these nuclear weapons. The legal provisions in the treaty for a one-time five-year extension, were used in 2021. The multilateral Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) is still in place, to which 190 countries are signatories. The general idea behind the NPT was for nuclear countries to reduce their stockpiles of nuclear weapons, with the goal of complete disarmament. Whilst those countries without nuclear weapons would commit to not pursuing them. In 1995 the members agreed to extend the treaty indefinitely, but it is not without its challenges. Four nuclear powers sit outside the NPT and there are rifts between the non-nuclear and nuclear states. So, on The Inquiry this week we're asking, ‘Is nuclear disarmament set to self-destruct?'Contributors: Hermann Wentker, Professor of Modern History, University of Potsdam and Head of Berlin Research Department, The Leibniz Institute for Contemporary History, Germany Alexandra Bell, President and CEO, Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, USA Mike Albertson, arms-control expert, former negotiator on New START arms reduction treaty, USA Nathalie Tocci, Professor of Practice, Johns Hopkins SAIS (School of Advanced International Studies), ItalyPresenter: Charmaine Cozier Producer: Jill Collins Researcher: Evie Yabsley Production Management Assistant: Liam Morrey Technical Producer: Richard Hannaford Editor: Tom Bigwood(Photo: Deck of the nuclear submarine Saphir. Nottingham Forest were beaten 3-1 at Aston Villa in the Premier League's first game of 2026. It was a case of hitting the self destruct button as Forest played incredibly defensively before conceding on the stroke of half time. Villa scored again at the start of the second after losing the ball cheaply before John Victor gifted them a third after Morgan Gibbs-White had pulled a goal back. Matt Davies is joined by Mark Sutherns, Michael Temple and, fresh from commentating on the game for Sky Sports, Seb Hutchinson. #nffc #nottinghamforest

In our podcast, Rachel Myrick, the Douglas & Ellen Lowey Associate Professor of Political Science at Duke University, discusses with us how extreme partisan polarization threatens not only domestic governance but also global stability. Drawing on her new book, Polarization and International Politics: How Extreme Partisanship Threatens Global Stability (Princeton University Press, 2025), Myrick argues that polarization in democracies affects foreign policymaking. The conversation begins with a striking example:each year, the political risk consultancy Eurasia Group publishes a list of the world's top geopolitical risks. The 2024 report placed as the highest risk not the Russian aggression, Middle Eastern conflict, but ‘the United States versus itself'. This diagnosis, Myrick suggests, encapsulates the central claim of her book: extreme party polarization erodes the institutional foundations that once made democracies stable and credible actors abroad. Throughout the podcast, the author unfolds how polarization affects the three pillars that democracies used to have in international relations: the ability to keep foreign policystable over time, to credibly signal information to adversaries and the reliability with partners in international politics. Then, the discussion moves to the ways in which polarization affects foreign policies. In a healthy democracy, leaders are incentivized to provide public goods and act in the national interest.Instead, in extremely polarized environments, politicians do not „target messaging at the median voter and instead work to mobilize their political base”. Voters increasingly view politics as a contest between moral enemies rather than legitimate rivals, caring more about their side's victorythan about performance or accountability. While the United States provides her primary example, Myrick points to similar patterns across Europe. In younger democracies such as Hungary or Poland, polarisation fuels “executive aggrandizement,” as ruling parties rewrite rules to secure permanent advantage. In established democracies, it simply makes governments less predictable partners internationally. Rachel Myrick ends the conversation with a warning: the greatest threat to international order may no longer come from authoritarian powers, but from democracies unable to govern themselves and to be effective partners.
CINCINNATI -- The Bengals defense allowed 502 yards of total offense to Justin Fields and the Jets and blew fourth quarter leads of 31-16 and 38-24 to lose to the previously winless New York Jets at Paycor Stadium. The loss was as inexplicable as it was inexcusable. The Bengals are now 3-5 and left to wonder how to fix a defense that can't rush the quarterback or stop the run. Will a loss like this finally shine a light on the deficiencies of the front office? Richard Skinner of Local 12 joins Trags to discuss. The Bengals again were throttled on defense due to poor tackling and blown assignments. The loss overshadowed a terrific game from running back Chase Brown who had a touchdown run and a touchdown catch. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Alex Sloley: When Toxic Leadership Creates Teams That Self-Destruct Read the full Show Notes and search through the world's largest audio library on Agile and Scrum directly on the Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast website: http://bit.ly/SMTP_ShowNotes. "They would take notes at every team meeting, so that later on they could argue with team members about what they committed to, and what they said in meetings." - Alex Sloley Alex recounts working with a small team where a project manager created such a toxic environment that one new hire quit after just eight hours on the job. This PM would belittle team members publicly, take detailed notes to use as weapons in contract negotiations, and dominate the team through intimidation. The situation became so severe that one team member sent an email that sounded like a suicide note. When the PM criticized Alex's "slide deck velocity," comparing four slides per 15 minutes to Alex's one, he realized the environment was beyond salvaging. Despite coaching the team and attempting to introduce Scrum values, Alex ultimately concluded that management was encouraging this behavior as a control mechanism. The organization lacked trust in the team, creating learned helplessness where team members became submissive and unable to resist. Sometimes, the most important lesson for a Scrum Master is recognizing when a system is too toxic to change and having the courage to walk away. Alex emphasizes that respect—one of the core Scrum values—was completely absent, making any meaningful transformation impossible. In this segment, we talk about “learned helplessness”. Self-reflection Question: How do you recognize when a toxic environment is being actively encouraged by the system rather than caused by individual behavior? What are the signs that it's time to exit rather than continue fighting? Featured Book of the Week: The Goal by Eliyahu M. Goldratt Alex describes his complex relationship with The Goal by Goldratt—it both inspires and worries him. He struggles with the text because the concepts are so deep and meaningful that he's never quite sure he's fully understood everything Goldratt was trying to convey. The book was difficult to read, taking him four times longer than other agile-related books, and he had to reread entire sections multiple times. Despite the challenge, the concepts around Theory of Constraints and systems thinking have stayed with him for years. Alex worries late at night that he might have missed something important in the book. He also mentions reading The Scrum Guide at least once a week, finding new tidbits each time and reflecting on why specific segments say what they say. Both books share a common thread—the text that isn't in the text—requiring readers to dig deeper into the underlying principles and meanings rather than just the surface content. Bernard Agrest: Avoiding Hard Conversations—When High-Performing Agile Teams Self-Destruct Read the full Show Notes and search through the world's largest audio library on Agile and Scrum directly on the Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast website: http://bit.ly/SMTP_ShowNotes. Bernard describes how a high-performing, fun-loving team began to unravel when a new member joined who wasn't delivering on their commitments. Instead of addressing the performance issue directly, team members started picking up the slack, avoiding the difficult conversation that needed to happen. As morale dropped and people checked out, Bernard realized the team was paralyzed by fear of confrontation and assumptions that raising the issue would be ignored. This experience taught him that individual performance problems quickly become whole-team problems when left unaddressed, and that strong relationships require the courage to have honest, supportive conversations. Self-reflection Question: What difficult conversation are you avoiding on your team, and what assumptions might be preventing you from addressing it? Featured Book of the Week: The 6 Types of Working Genius by Patrick Lencioni Bernard recommends The 6 Types of Working Genius by Patrick Lencioni because it helps leaders understand that everyone has specific "genius" areas in different phases of work. When people work outside their natural genius zones, they feel unfulfilled and frustrated. This framework has been invaluable for Bernard in understanding team dynamics—why some teams click naturally while others struggle. By recognizing each person's working genius, leaders can better position team members for success and create more effective, satisfied teams. [The Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast Recommends]

Episode Title: "Thunderbolts: The Marvel Misfits Assemble (and Self-Destruct?)"In this explosive episode of Popcorn Paparazzi, we dive headfirst into Marvel's latest team-up of lovable antiheroes, The Thunderbolts! From Florence Pugh's dry wit to David Harbour's dad-bod brawls, we're breaking down the chaotic charm (and questionable choices) of this misfit mission to save the world—and themselves. What worked? What flopped harder than a CGI fight scene at midnight? And how many popcorn buckets did it earn? Tune in as we spill the kernels, call out the clichés, and (politely) debate whether Marvel's bad kids club deserves detention… or a sequel.Spoiler Alert & Listener Discretion Advised: We talk all about the movie, twists, turns. You've been warned!
Is humanity inherently wired for self-destruction? This topic explores the complex interplay of psychological, biological, and societal factors that contribute to self-destructive behaviors at individual and collective levels. It delves into the potential evolutionary roots of such tendencies, examining phenomena like risk-taking, addiction, and self-sabotage. Furthermore, it considers how societal structures, cultural norms, and technological advancements might exacerbate or mitigate these self-destructive inclinations, ultimately questioning whether our inherent nature poses an existential threat. . https://pentoprint.org/product/see-write-on-issue-24-here/#write-on-24/1/

Paine—one of the sharpest minds on grand strategy and on how great powers rise and fall. We talk about why Russia, China, and even the U.S. often misunderstand their own strengths, repeat the same strategic mistakes, and ultimately sabotage themselves from within. If you want to understand why grand strategy fails, and what that means for the next decade of global competition, this one's worth your time.

[EP 25-139] I'm old enough to remember when the national catchphrase wasn't “Build Back Better,” but BUY AMERICAN. It wasn't a marketing slogan—it was a wake-up call. People started noticing that the “Made in the USA” label was disappearing faster than Joe Biden memory at a press conference. Entire industries were being shipped overseas like suitcases with broken wheels. And instead of fighting for American jobs, we built a system that punished companies for making things here, and rewarded them for setting up shop in places where labor costs less than a vending machine soda. [X]SB – Stephen Miller on taxes Overall economic vision. Political class allowed it to happen. NAFTA, WTO, entry of China into the WTO Now, I get it. Unions played their part. Many of them became bullies with lunch breaks, demanding so much that they drove companies to throw up their hands and say, “We'll show you!” But let's not forget who egged them on: Democrats. They coddled that selfishness, turned blind eyes to its consequences, and called it “worker advocacy.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-kevin-jackson-show--2896352/support.

The Dems could hardly resist to make themselves look like total fools at President Trump's first address to a joint session of Congress. Trump's guests consisted of victims of illegal immigrants, D.E.I, and overall crime in this country that has been allowed to flourish under the leadership of Joe Biden and his Marxist lackeys. Trump has called the bluff of Zelensky and Trudeau — tariffs are going into effect and Zelensky is begging for forgiveness and a ceasefire just days after snubbing America. They dive into 4 prevalent idols for men and the 4-step process that often leads to shame and public downfall. Through showcasing high-profile cases like Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein, Heath Ledger, Whitney Houston, and Fr. John Corapi, the hosts explain striking similarities in their paths to ruin.
