The Lakers are in a unique situation when it comes to Thursday's NBA Draft.First, they have a first round pick, and seem inclined to actually use it, rather than automatically defaulting to sending the selection away in favor of a more established player. And given the amount of turnover teams face now across the league, sentiment around picking the best player available tends to trump picking for need. Then again, for the Lakers, who are on an accelerated timeline thanks to the arc's of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, they need a guy who can fit in with that core, and ideally could do it quickly. So are there any players who could step into a rotation next season that will be waiting at the back end of the draft? What exactly goes into that type of selection? What skills translate quickly to fill a niche at the NBA level, when a player isn't going to step into a starring or big scoring role?We ask those questions and more to NBA Draft expert Mike Garcia (@canyondriver) who specializes in the Lakers on his Substack.Who does Mike like at #17? Could Jett Howard be a good choice? What about Trayce Jackson-Davis? Why is he so high on Sidy Cissoko? Who does he want in the second round? We discuss why the Lakers tend to find good players later in the Draft, whether it makes more sense, given their timeline, to try and trade down, stay where they are or just trade the pick for a veteran altogether. He believes there will be plenty of talent available to the Lakers, with potential first round talent reaching well into the second.Get prepared for everything the Lakers might do!HOSTS: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: The Draft is Thursday. In the 2nd episode of the 2023 Sac Kings Therapy Draft scouting reports, we bring to you Maxwell Lewis from Pepperdine, Noah Clownley from Alambama and Sidy Cissoko from the G-League Ignite. All 3 players are in the mold of versatile wings/forwards that have a lot of potential and can be big contributors for the Kings down the line. Owen and Fong go through them and give their thoughts. We then talk about Sasha Vezenkov and the Olympiacos losing to Real Madrid in the final seconds of the Euroleague Finals. Sasha played well but their late game execution and going away from Sasha in crunch time came to bite them. We also talk about Jordi Fernandez moving the final round of interviews for the vacant Phoenix Suns Head Coach position, and end with the talk about the conference finals. Lebron left it all out on the floor but he was unable to overcome the juggernaut that was the Nuggets. On the other coast, the Celtics have won the last 2 on the back of their revitalized 3-point shooting and have now put the series in a very interesting spot where it can really go either way. And we officially end on some wrestling as well as some gaming talks.

IntroThe NBA trade deadline brought absolute chaos, and we're here to break it all down. Superstars are on the move, blockbuster deals shocked the league, and somehow, the Lakers pulled off a trade that just doesn't sit right. Plus, the Red Sox have the perfect opportunity to land Nolan Arenado, but they continue to drag their feet. Dr. Big Mac and Chief Bobby break it all down in this week's episode.NBA Trade Deadline - Stars on the MoveThe NBA trade deadline delivered as always, and big names found new homes. We start with the Boston Celtics, who made a minor move by trading Jaden Springer and a 2030 second-round pick to the Rockets for heavily protected future second-round picks. This was purely a salary dump, saving the Celtics $20 million.Rich, in our text exchange, you said you wanted young blood—what moves did you want to see from the Celtics instead?Key Takeaway:The Celtics avoided a luxury tax disaster, but did they do enough to stay ahead of the pack? There's Something Fishy About the Lakers' Luka TradeThe biggest move of the deadline came when the Lakers landed Luka Dončić, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris, sending Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick to Dallas. The Jazz also got involved, receiving Jalen Hood-Schifino and two second-round picks.LeBron had no idea this trade was happening. Could this be owners trying to reclaim power in a league where players have dictated their own moves for years? And did the Lakers really fleece the Mavericks, or is the media just pushing that narrative?Key Takeaway:The Lakers just got Luka, but at what cost? The power dynamics in the NBA may be shifting back to ownership.Warriors Reload – Is Golden State a Threat Again?Golden State made waves by trading for Jimmy Butler, who immediately signed a two-year extension. In exchange, Miami received Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, P.J. Tucker, and a protected first-round pick. Other teams got involved, including the Jazz (who acquired Dennis Schroder) and the Pistons (who received Lindy Waters III and Josh Richardson). The Celtics' kryptonite is now across the country, but does this move put the Warriors back in contention? Meanwhile, Miami now relies on a core of Wiggins, Bam Adebayo, and… Wiggins?Key Takeaway:The Warriors are back in the mix, but did Miami just take a step backward? The Sneakiest Trade of the DeadlineThe Spurs landed De'Aaron Fox and Jordan McLaughlin in a blockbuster move with Sacramento. The Kings received Zach LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, and a massive haul of draft picks. The Bulls, meanwhile, acquired Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, and their own first-round pick back from San Antonio. With Fox joining Victor Wembanyama, could this be the new Tony Parker-Tim Duncan duo? Can the Spurs be good again sooner than expected?Key Takeaway:The Spurs are positioning themselves for a quick rebuild, and Fox-Wemby could be a scary duo for years to come.Red Sox Full Count: Nolan Arenado and the St. Louis CardinalsNolan Arenado wants to be in Boston, and he's willing to waive his no-trade clause to make it happen. The reported trade would send Arenado and cash to the Red Sox in exchange for pitching prospect Richard Fitts. This is a no-brainer deal—Arenado is an 8-time All-Star who would solidify the infield, allowing Devers to move to first base. So why hasn't this happened yet?If the Cardinals cover part of his salary, the Red Sox still wouldn't have made a blockbuster signing this offseason. Once again, the front office has misled the fanbase.Key Takeaways:The Red Sox have a chance to land a star for minimal cost, yet they hesitate.Even with Arenado, has Boston done enough this offseason? Will they make another move, or are we waiting for the trade deadline?ClosingSubscribe to the podcast on YouTube and your favorite podcast platforms.
