It's a celebration of 100 episodes of HearSej and the tables are turned to face Seja, as three of her favourite people interview her about her life. Bernard Fanning (Powderfinger), Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint) and Spod ask Seja about the important issues such as who has the best stage banter in Australia, why do we like fart noises only if a synthesizer is making them, and which famous people have you seen naked. Seja also tells her friends about how she makes the podcast, which guests she has connected with the most, and her experiences moving to Australia from Germany. Seja tells three strange show stories, one of which she has illustrated. All illustrations can be seen on instagram @hearsejpodcast, or on the HearSej Facebook page.
This week marks the first anniversary of the Skies & Currents podcast!I'm astounded that an entire year has passed, and I am profoundly and sincerely grateful for the personal growth and opportunity this podcast has brought into my life. Sincerest thank you to every one of you who has listened and supported us along the way. Theresa and I never imagined we could grow and sustain this audience and community as quickly as we have, and we feel blessed to share our work with you.In a beautiful moment of synchronicity, it just so happens that our one-year anniversary coincides with the release of a gorgeous new introduction to the podcast. We are incredibly grateful to Warpaint for allowing us to use their music in the show. Extra special thanks to Emily Kokal and Theresa Wayman for their friendship and long-time support of my astrology practice. They are among an early group of supporters whose encouragement and enthusiasm for my gifts gave me the courage to pursue astrology as a vocation, and it's incredibly meaningful that we have the opportunity to thread their art into the fabric of our show. Thank you also to Jennylee Lindberg, Stella Mozgawa, Mia Kirby, and Cedric Lemoyne for making this happen. Thank you also to our dear friend and editor extraordinaire, Kevin Klauber, for editing it together for us.In the episode, we chat about the new eclipse series that opens with the lunar eclipse in Pisces this Tuesday, September 17th. We talk about what might be opening up for us in the Pisces-Virgo axis of our charts over the next 18 months, as well as tips for taking extra care of yourself through the double whammy of eclipse season conspiring with Mars in Cancer at the beginning of his retrograde cycle.with love, Christina & Theresa Skies of Grace Astrology Inner Currents Get full access to Skies and Currents at skiesofgrace.substack.com/subscribe

Stella Mozgawa is one of those artists who orbits many worlds. She's the drummer with Warpaint, but on stage she'll often join Kurt Vile and Cate Le Bon on tour, and while in the studio she's working with The xx and co-producing Courtney Barnett albums. Her skills and curiosity brought her here, but so did her passion for all forms of music. And after hearing this Take 5 you'll understand why. Stella is one of those people you want to bail up at a house party, finding out what they've been listening to or just hearing why that song or that artist cuts so deep. And it's why I asked her to Take 5, and share her labyrinth across five songs. The musical map of Stella Mozgawa is beautiful to hear, and hearing her speak about each choice opened up a whole labyrinth of sound for me. From Bjork to Kraftwerk to Aaliyah, this is the DNA of one of music's most interesting minds. Harvey Sutherland, Yu Su, Paul Woolford and Stella Mozgawa discuss treating yourself (psychologically), the power of non-verbal connection, the thrill of being in a room together, producing new and experimental music in China, and nature's ability to inspire. Harvey Sutherland is a 'neurotic funk' producer and synth player from Australia. Yu Su is a composer, DJ, producer, instrumentalist and prominent member of Vancouver's underground dance scene. Born in the Henan province of China, she creates elegant downtempo electronic music, which has been described as “organically groovy jazz-bient expeditions”. Paul Woolford is one of British dance music's most important and most respected producers and DJs, with a career now pushing 20 years. Stella Mozgawa is an Australian drummer and producer, probably best known for being in the indie rock band Warpaint. She's also played with the likes of the xx, Kurt Vile, Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon, and Tom Jones, and produced artists including Australian rock royalty Courtney Barnett.
In this debut episode of season 2, host Mike Dawson discusses and demonstrates how the tuning of bottom drumhead of a snare affects sound and response, then he finishes up his interview with Stella Mozgawa and Bryan Hollon of the EDM project Belief, picks the brain of Jefferson Shallenberger at Sugar Percussion about snare beds, and fields a few listener questions. We also have another great jazz drumming essentials lesson with Thomas Wendt, and the show concludes with another great "warehouse pick of the week."
In this debut episode of season 2, host Mike Dawson demos 12", 13", 14", and 15" snare drums at identical tunings, interviews Stella Mozgawa and Bryan Hollon of the EDM project Belief, visits Hawthorne Drum Shop to check out some vintage Ludwigs, and fields a few listener questions. We also have a great lesson on jazz drumming essentials with Thomas Wendt.
Warpaint are back after six years with Radiate Like This, their excellent fourth album after 2016's Heads Up. According to drummer Stella Mozgawa, completing the album while isolated from bandmates Emily Kokal, Theresa Wayman and Jenny Lee Lindberg was challenging. Theirs is a band that have always thrived on the intimacy of being in the same room during the songwriting process, and after finally coming together in between babies, solo albums and cross-country moves, the pandemic forced them to work individually in their separate home studios, isolated from one another. Stella had the added disadvantage of being away from her own home studio, grappling with different time zones. In spite, or perhaps because of all those challenges these four women— who Stella describes as being almost 'married to each other in a four-way polyamorous relationship' — have put out one of their best albums to date. Many thanks for making this possible — Stella for a heartfelt chat. To Virgin Music and Rough Trade for use of all songs. And Ethan Jacobs at Sacks & Co. for support at every turn.Songs Featured: "Hips," "Undertow," "Disco/Very," "New Song," "Send Nudes," "Champion," and "Melting."To share your thoughts on this episode, email: celine.teoblockey@undertheradarmag.com Or leave a voice message here. On this episode of LaunchLeft, Rain sits down with members of the band, Warpaint, Emily Kokal, and Theresa Wayman. Warpaint is an American Indie Rock band formed in 2004, including Jenny Lee Lindbergh and Stella Mozgawa. The band has released four studio albums, including Radiate Like This, which dropped May 6, 2022. Tune in to this episode as Rain, Emily, and Theresa talk about their album-making process, the impact of the pandemic on their tour, how they met as children through music, and what's coming up next for them. ----------------- LAUNCHLEFT OFFICIAL WEBSITE https://www.launchleft.com LAUNCHLEFT PATREON https://www.patreon.com/LaunchLeft TWITTER https://twitter.com/LaunchLeft INSTAGRAM https://www.instagram.com/launchleft/ FACEBOOK https://www.facebook.com/LaunchLeft --------------------- LaunchLeft Podcast hosted by Rain Phoenix is an intentional space for Art and Activism where famed creatives launch new artists. [09:00] How music has evolved in Emily and Theresa's lives as their personal lives have changed and grown. [16:00] How the pandemic impacted Emily and Theresa's lives and music. [23:00] The different experiences and energy Emily and Theresa get performing in certain places vs. others. [32:00] Warpaint's form of activism. KEY TAKEAWAYS: The pandemic gave Emily and Theresa some time to sit back and slow down with their music and helped give them the time they might not otherwise have. As you grow within your personal life, it may affect your music and you should allow it to have new influence as it creates new points of view. Bio: Blending psych-rock, post-punk, dream pop, hip-hop, and more into a smoldering style all their own, Warpaint are one of indie's most acclaimed bands. Their 2008 debut EP, Exquisite Corpse, demonstrated their gifts for hazy sensuality and stripped-down arrangements, qualities they refined on 2010's full-length The Fool (which also marked the debut of powerhouse drummer Stella Mozgawa). From there, the band evolved with each release, whether they polished their sound and added electronics and hints of dub on 2014's self-titled album or gave their music more urgency with 2016's Heads Up. With 2022's Radiate Like This, Warpaint took another leap forward by bringing more clarity to their sound and highlighting their intuitive interplay. Warpaint started work on their fourth album in early 2020, recording the foundations of its songs with engineer turned co-producer Sam Petts-Davies. When the COVID-19 global pandemic hit, the group's members worked on their own, recording their parts in their respective home studios. While the band created the album, Wayman released her second solo album, 2020's TT, and Warpaint performed a streaming acoustic concert in December 2020. They also released the April 2021 single "Lilys," which appeared in the HBO series Made for Love. Released in May 2022, Radiate Like This' tightly crafted songs reflected the time Warpaint spent honing the album. Around the time of its release, Lindberg issued her second solo album, Heart Tax, while Mozgawa and Boom Bip's project Belief debuted with the Versions EP. This week's guest is Stella Mozgawa…drummer for the band Warpaint. In addition to her band, she's also collaborated with Courtney Barnett, Kurt Vile, Flea, Adam Green, Regina Spektor, The xx, Sharon Von Eaten and many, many more. It's basically a list of all the cool kids…but like that actual cool kids. I'm truly a fan of Stella, so having watched and read many of her interviews before this chat, I knew she has incredible taste in music and I was so stoked to hear what she had to say. Her style was most-recently dissected in my episode with Martina Barakoska (being that Stella was on her big fat five list) so go check that out pleeaseee. Basically, Stella's the shit. She's rad on and off the drums and this was a really joyful conversation. I hope you enjoy my chat with Stella about the 5 records thats made her into the drummer she is today. Cheers! In this episode, John links up with Courtney Barnett and producer Stella Mozgawa to talk about how they wrote, recorded and produced Courtney's album ‘Things Take Time, Take Time'. Ready with the keys to Courtney's archive of sofa voice notes and Garageband demos, the pair talk us through the entire album process, from their most valuable moments within pre-production, to the hours in the studio where they had to check if they were losing their minds. Sharing the secrets of the sonics, we hear stories of creating cavernous brass sounds using only a guitar and making fake shakers out of drums, all of which are set alongside the eternal loops sourced from the depths of Stella's drum machine collection. Listen to find out how to trick yourself into doing the perfect vocal take, what the best state of mind is to help get ideas flowing, and why producing is far from being a dark art. "Courtney Barnett" is a singer, songwriter, and musician from Melbourne Australia, known for her often deadpan singing style and witty lyrics.Courtney grew up in a musical household, with both her brothers playing guitar around her. When she was just 10 years old she asked her brothers to show her some chords and eventually begged her parents to buy her a guitar and lessons. As a left-handed guitar player Courtney actually started out learning on a regular right-handed guitar with conventional stringing, this basically meant she learnt how to play guitar chords backwards, which she can still do to this day. In her early career she played with a couple of indie bands around Australia, before writing her own songs and putting out her debut EP in 2012.As usual, there is a lot more to know about this fascinating artist. Join musicians Jay Purcell and Jesse Quigley as they discuss Courtney's work, life, career and spin some of their favorite tracks. To listen to the full episode, including the featured music, visit... signlradio.com"Roots to Grooves" is a production of SIGNL.https://www.signlradio.comhttps://www.instagram.com/signlradiohttps://www.twitter.com/signlradiohttps://www.facebook.com/signlradiohttps://www.mixcloud.com/signlhttps://open.spotify.com/user/96mhz6qfjoztxbl2dpm0uj903?si=aAZpsoEnRAKdx85kr1QWhg
Courtney Barnett - "Rae Street" from the 2021 album Things Take Time, Take Time on Mom+Pop/Marathon Records. Long-time KEXP fave Courtney Barnett has announced her third album, titled Things Take Time, Take Time, out November 12th on Mom+Pop Music / Marathon Artists. Today's Song of the Day features the opening track, the languid rocker "Rae Street." Things Take Time, Take Time was written over a two-year period, marking what's called "a particularly joyful time in her life." It was recorded towards the end of 2020 and early 2021 with producer / drummer Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint, and the comfort can be heard in the resulting intimate songs. Courtney will be stopping by Seattle on Tuesday, December 14th with Bartees Strange at the Paramount. Normally on this show we venerate musicians, today we’re mocking them as we present a little compilation of music jokes guests have told me this year, never before heard until now. Listen to gags from Georgia Mooney, Fred Armisen, Stella Mozgawa, Edith Bowman, Seja Vogel, Dan Wilson and even your host.
Multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer and one of the best drummers of her generation Stella Mozgawa joins me for a look at the legendary Brian Eno’s final 70s pop masterpiece (before his turn into ambient music) Before and After Science. We delve into the most interesting man in rock’s creative process, how he used the studio as his instrument and enlisted collaborators from Robert Fripp to Phil Collins (and we defend Phil’s legacy), why it’s a good thing that Eno has kept his archival vaults locked, how Warpaint have used Eno’s Oblique Strategies cards in the studio, and why you should always turn down dinner invitations from an EGOT.
Sometimes the most fun interviews are the ones you didn't expect to happen. I was scheduled to interview Theresa Wayman from the American indie rock band Warpaint at the Best Kept Secret festival in the Netherlands. So I prepared accordingly, but at the last second she was no longer available so I got to talk with Stella and Jenny Lee instead. With my preparation mostly out the window I decided to just try to have as genuine a conversation with them as I could. Plus, I had spoken to Jenny Lee on a couple of occasions so I knew it would be excellent anyway. Both Stella and Jenny Lee were great fun and I really loved the laid back attitude we all had in this interview. We spoke about Stella joining the band, recording The Fool, developing in other musical areas, dealing with egos, trying to avoid pressure, growing as a band and a lot more! Rock Neto. Interview With Stella Mozgawa from WarpaintRecorded live on Thursday October 17th of 2019 for KXSF 102.5 FM San Francisco.rockneto.comkxsf.fm
Stella Mozgawa has the magic feel. It’s something certain musicians possess, when they are behind their instrument you are captivated as a listener and their touch is so natural you never question what they are playing, it’s just right. Stella has been the drummer in Warpaint for over 10 years and in that time has delivered that magic to their critically acclaimed albums as well as playing on albums by Kurt Vile, Kim Gordon and Sir Tom Jones to name just a few. We sat down to discuss Alanis Morissette, LA rock pigs (or LARPS for short..), how to make a band work in the longterm and why she never needs to hear Sultans Of Swing by Dire Straights ever again. All music on the podcast by Joshua Moriarty & All The Colours. Stella’s BBC radio show- https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0006n0b My fave Warpaint song ‘Drive’ live from a few years back- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x25BdQSSEgs
Warpaint has always been hard to pin down, with their music sometimes leaning post-punk and other times leaning heavily in the direction of dream pop. Part of that may be due to the band's structure, which they call a "democracy of dictators."
In anticipation of next week's Phil Collins episode, Joe is joined by Trap Set co-producer Chris to discuss why the Phil episode is a watershed moment for the show and why Phil is a singularly fascinating genius. This episode also features musings on Phil from Clem Burke, Fred Armisen, Stella Mozgawa, Seb Thompson, Butch Vig, and more.
In this episode, Mike and Mike discuss February 2017Modern Drummer cover artist Stella Mozgawa of the indie-rock band Warpaint. They also dig into the topic of transcribing drum parts from recordings and how to get the most from them. Joe welcomes back three of your favorite guests for a live panel discussion about life, fandom and existential crises. All three guests were fans of each other and were excited to interview each other, as well as take questions from Joe and the audience. Warpaint’s Stella Mozgawa interviews Portlandia’s Fred Armisen—who began his career as a drummer. Fred interviews his favorite drummer of all time—Blondie’s Clem Burke. This episode was recorded live at The Steve Allen Theater in Los Angeles.
Joe talks to Stella Mozgawa about her Polish heritage, her musican parents, how a benign lie became the truth, how she evolved beyond her competitive nature, and her creative collaboration in Warpaint.
