Amazon frappe un grand coup dans la course à l'informatique quantique. Le 27 février 2025, le géant américain a dévoilé Ocelot, une nouvelle puce développée par son centre AWS de calcul quantique en collaboration avec le California Institute of Technology. Son atout majeur ? Une architecture révolutionnaire intégrant des « qubits de chats », une technologie qui pourrait bien marquer une avancée décisive dans la correction d'erreurs quantiques, principal obstacle au développement des ordinateurs quantiques. Dans l'univers quantique, les qubits sont ultra-sensibles aux perturbations extérieures, rendant leur stabilité difficile à maintenir. Jusqu'à présent, les techniques de correction d'erreurs nécessitaient d'énormes ressources, freinant l'industrialisation de l'informatique quantique. Avec Ocelot, AWS adopte une approche radicalement différente : intégrer la correction d'erreurs directement au cœur de la conception des qubits.Les qubits de chats, inspirés de la célèbre expérience de Schrödinger, permettent de réduire naturellement certaines erreurs, limitant ainsi les besoins en correction supplémentaire. NBFCs Get a Boost from RBI Policy Shift India's non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) are set to benefit from RBI's decision to lower risk-weights on bank lending to NBFCs from 125% to 100% starting April 1. This makes funding cheaper and more accessible, easing liquidity constraints that had slowed bank lending to NBFCs to 6.7% in Dec 2024 (half the previous year's rate). Key beneficiaries include M&M Financial and Cholamandalam Investment, which rely on banks for nearly 50% of their borrowings. Meanwhile, Bajaj Finance and Shriram Finance (less dependent on banks) may see a smaller impact. However, asset quality remains a concern. M&M Financial's bad loans rose to 2% in Q3FY25, pushing its stock down 3% over the past year, while Cholamandalam, with stronger financials (21.6% RoE), saw its stock rise 30%. Investors remain cautious—Cholamandalam trades at 3.9x FY26 book value, while M&M Financial lags at 1.6x. The big question: Will NBFCs pass on the cost benefits to customers, and will this policy shift be enough to revive growth? UltraTech Cement's C&W Entry Rattles the Market UltraTech Cement's ₹1,800 crore foray into the cables & wires (C&W) industry has triggered sharp stock declines in Polycab, KEI, Havells, RR Kabel, and Finolex Cables (5-20%). The move draws parallels with Grasim's entry into paints, which eroded valuations of incumbents. Unlike paints (an oligopoly), C&W is fragmented, making market share gains difficult. UltraTech lacks a strong distribution network, adding to execution challenges. With existing players already expanding capacity, overcapacity risks loom. If UltraTech pursues aggressive pricing, margins could suffer. Analysts estimate UltraTech could capture 5-7% of the market by FY29 (projected industry size: ₹1.3 trillion). Interestingly, UltraTech's own stock fell 5%, as investors question its capital allocation strategy—cement or diversification? Amazon Unveils First Quantum Computing Chip, Ocelot Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched Ocelot, its first quantum computing chip, aimed at reducing error rates by 90%. This marks a key step toward practical quantum computing, a field dominated by Google, Microsoft, and Amazon. Microsoft recently claimed a breakthrough in quantum matter, while Google's Willow chip tackled error correction in December. Amazon's approach mirrors Google's focus on superconducting quantum circuits, while Microsoft takes a different route. Ocelot is still a prototype, not a full system. While quantum computers promise massive computational power for applications like drug discovery and cybersecurity, commercial viability remains years—if not a decade—away. Analysts call this an advancement, not a breakthrough, but note that Amazon's new method for error correction could help it catch up. Beyond hardware, Amazon is also expanding its quantum services, including its Braket cloud platform and business advisory programs. The road to quantum supremacy remains long, but Amazon is moving closer. Lodha Family Feud Intensifies Over Brand Name Manju Lodha, matriarch of the Lodha real estate empire, has intervened in the legal battle between brothers Abhishek and Abhinandan Lodha, stating that neither can claim rights over the other's business. The dispute stems from a 2017 family agreement that split the empire. Abhishek leads Macrotech Developers (₹1.19 trillion market cap), while Abhinandan launched The House of Abhinandan Lodha after exiting the family business in 2015. Macrotech took legal action in January to prevent Abhinandan from using the Lodha name, citing brand confusion. Today, we are joined by our friend Max Derrat to analyze the ending of Metal Gear Solid 2! If you haven't heard of him, check out his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@maxderrat/featured After escaping from Arsenal Gear, the fortress falls out of the sky and crashes into Manhattan Island. Raiden is contacted by a different AI impersonating the Colonel and Rose. It states that GW was the only AI destroyed and that the S3 Plan's real purpose is to stop society's regression in the digital era from trivial information drowning knowledge and truth. The AI believes that humanity is too immature to handle the flow of information responsibly, citing Raiden's lack of individuality and reliance on others for direction as an example when he protests the plan. The AI orders Raiden to eliminate Solidus—telling him that refusal will result in the deaths of Rose and Olga's child. After Raiden defeats Solidus, Snake appears after tracking Liquid. Snake and Otacon plan to rescue Olga's child and locate the Patriots, whose details were hidden in the GW virus disc. Raiden is then reunited with the real Rose. In the epilogue, Otacon and Snake decode Ocelot's disk, which contains data on all twelve members of the Patriots' highest council, the Wiseman's Committee. However, the members have allegedly been dead for 100 years.

Raiden awakens on Arsenal Gear, where Solidus reveals he had killed Raiden's parents and raised him as a child soldier during the Liberian Civil War. After this, Olga frees Raiden, explaining she is a Patriot double agent forced to help him in exchange for her child's safety. After the Colonel begins acting erratically, it is revealed that he is a construct of GW, damaged by the virus. Rose tells Raiden the Patriots had ordered her to become his lover and spy on him and that she is pregnant with his child. Raiden finds Snake, and together, they gain entry to Arsenal. Fortune then battles Snake, while Raiden is forced into combat with AI-controlled Metal Gear RAYs. The virus soon causes them to malfunction, and Olga sacrifices herself to save Raiden from Solidus. Snake and Raiden are captured and taken to the top of Arsenal Gear by Solidus, Fortune, and Ocelot. Ocelot reveals himself as a Patriot agent and that the entire affair was orchestrated by the Patriots to artificially replicate a soldier (Raiden) on par with Solid Snake, titled the S3 Plan. Ocelot kills Fortune before being possessed again by Liquid Snake. Liquid explains that Ocelot's severed right arm was replaced with his own and plans to hunt down the Patriots using his host's knowledge and the stolen RAY. Snake pursues Liquid as Arsenal loses control.

It was a thrill for two main reasons: First, I knew I was talking with a real fan about a genuinely exciting show, because he drove over 6 hours to get to the venue, and crossed the border, since Michael lived in Canada at the time. But also, today's conversation selfishly granted me a wish that I didn't even know I had. Michael comes to us today from Stockholm, Sweden. I've had Canadian guests before, so Michael isn't the first international guest, but I've never had a European guest! We are everywhere!But a little more close to home: this show was the first night of a 3-night run at the beloved upstate New York venue during a peak year of Phish music. It's a common thread of this podcast to wonder when Phish was actually “back” after they returned in 2009, and 2012 seems to be as good a year to suggest, for a number of reasons that Mike and I discuss in just a few minutes.   So let's join Mike to talk about touring costs, whether or not Ocelot is a bathroom songs, and when the band will return to Toronto as we discuss July 7, 2012 at SPAC.
