Political editor Joe Murphy's back on the podcast as it's revealed the more contagious ‘South Africa' variant of coronavirus has been found in parts of London and Sussex. More than 100 cases have been discovered so far and surge testing is underway in eight postcodes, with everyone over the age of 16 being encouraged to get one whether they're showing symptoms or not. It comes as the government announces its secured 40 million doses of a vaccine from French firm Valneva. Joe says the Prime Minister's confident the UK will be the first country in the world to stockpile jabs for use next year. Also, our home affairs editor Martin Bentham discusses his interview with the Met's deputy commissioner Stephen House, who says officers will continue “disproportionate” stop and searches of young black Londoners in an attempt to save lives. The robust defence of the Met's approach came during a chat in which he also disclosed that around 300 knives a month were being seized during searches. This week, we speak to two teenagers, Orlaith and Brendan (not real names) about their experience of stop and search in a town in Donegal. Stop and search, while often a short, minor encounter, can have huge consequences and we see that in how these young people feel about the police. We know so little about stop and search in Ireland but Orlaith and Brendan tell us what it's like for them. Dr John Topping and Professor Alex Vitale explain some of the issues that arise. This week's episode was recorded a day earlier than usual but there's certainly no shortage of news. Siobhan and Oliver talk about the latest Covid situation, the suspension of Jeremy Corbyn and what this might mean for Labour, predictions for the US election and, following yet another critical report on stop and search, they discuss why this failing policy is a clear indication of the ugent need for police reform. It sounds heavy, but there's the usual fun thrown in too - and more appreciation of the marvellous Marcus Rashford.

Jason Reed is the presenter on two fantastic podcasts! He presents SO I START A REVOLUTION FROM MY BED which has a strong focus on wellbeing and how to be happy. Jason also presents the STOP AND SEARCH podcast, which talks about the law in relation to drugs and the whole debate around this important subject. Jason is a successful writer too and has been published widely in the press, magazines and the Podbible. Jasons story is very interesting as he suffers from ME and this has had a significant impact upon him physically and mentally, as such he has many really useful coping strategies that he shares in this episode. We also talk about drug use and Jason shares some alarming stats around this. This episode is very informative but also very honest and heartfelt. In the year to March 2019, police forces in England and Wales recorded more than 47,000 offences involving knives: an 8% increase year on year and the highest total since records began. One way of trying to tackle this increase in violent crime is by the use of stop and search. Why is stop and search so controversial? What does the College of Policing Guidance define as appropriate use of stop and search powers? The Government has recently authorised enhanced stop and search powers as part of the efforts to crack down on knife crime. What are these enhanced powers? What are Knife Crime Prevention Orders and how will they be used in practice? In this podcast, Solicitor Deborah Britstone and Barrister James Berry discuss the powers available to police officers to stop and search and the circumstances in which these powers should be used.

It’s episode 77! Returning guests Jason and Tiernan (from the award-winning Stop and Search and Partly Political podcast respectively) are back for Jason’s choice, Stir Crazy starring Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder. A childhood favourite (and as old as Kobi) of Jason’s that he decided to revisit and bring to the Flixwatcher team. I say team as Tiernan neglected to watch it! It’s surprisingly not racist, risky, misogynistic or homophobic as you might predict for its era, one of the other things it isn’t is funny. From the promise of Pryor, Wilder and Sidney Poitier you expect much, much more. Scores [supsystic-tables id='79'] At 1 hour AND 51 minutes is very, very long for an unfunny, ridiculous caper and this is reflected in its very low scores. It’s Episode 67! Tiernan (Partly Political Broadcast) and Jason (Stop and Search) join Kobi and Helen for Tiernan’s choice the 2017 Irish comedy The Young Offenders. Jock and Connor are two best buddies on a mission to find a bale of washed up cocaine on the West Cork coast, on stolen bikes. Their paths cross with an over zealous police officer and genuinely terrifying psychopaths whilst also being a journey of friendship and sort of maturity. It’s easy to compare this with the likes of Twin Town, but The Young Offenders has lots of heart and resists the urge to go full on gross out and it makes it all the more relatable and enjoyable. Scores [supsystic-tables id='69'] The Young Offenders scores an amazing 4.85 on engagement and overall a very strong 4.25. Highly recommended! What do you guys think? WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME to the fourth and final quarter of the Xmas DrunkCast! But first and foremost, the Distraction Pieces Podcast consortium would like to formally wish you the very best for 2018 and hope that it's been a tremendous start for you. We will be here for you for the duration and we would like to thank you properly for the listening time, downloads, shares, Speech Development Records and all round support. Team 3W is the BEST - never forget. Thank you.And so we continue, and as we do so things get decidedly rowdier, almost like turning the volume up from like 5 or so to 10 (or if you wanna Spinal Tap it, 11). So be prepared for a nice gradual increase in bellowing. As with all previous episodes of this current session, Scroobius Pip is joined by Hardcore Listing homies and DrunkCast OGs Stu and Chris, the host of the Say Why To Drugs podcast Dr Suzi Gage (on breathalising and cognition test duties), John of The Dream Factory podcast on fact checking and note taking, Jim Smallman of the Tuesday Night Jaw podcast (straight edge, on the flashy imported salted caramel Monster beverages), wrestler Jimmy Havoc (drinking on behalf of Jim Smallman, the kind and giving soul he is) and Jason ‘Tron’ Reed of the Stop And Search podcast. A savage and fearless display of drunken podcasters right here, and a perfect one to end the four pieces. Xmas movies, alcoholism and addiction, gambling, Frank Bruno on the Hardcore Listing podcast, more breathalyser business and some underwear nobbling. No explanation needed. ENJOY!!! You shall!––––– ––––– –––––This episode's links:• STOP AND SEARCH PODCAST!• SAY WHY TO DRUGS PODCAST!• HARDCORE LISTING PODCAST!• TUESDAY NIGHT JAW PODCAST!• DREAM FACTORY PODCAST!• SUBFRANTIC STUDIO!• SCROOBIUS PIP on TWITTER!• SCROOBIUS PIP on INSTAGRAM!• SPEECH DEVELOPMENT RECORDS • DISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on FACEBOOK• DISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on INSTAGRAM• NEW LISTENERS TAKE NOTE!!! WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME to your THIRD instalment of the surely notorious and definitely infamous DrunkCast for Xmas 2017! Y'all ready...? C'mon now, it's been almost a week - of course you're ready... Let's get it in shall we...?Same again, same number, same hood – Hardcore Listing homies and DrunkCast OGs Stu and Chris, the host of the Say Why To Drugs podcast Dr Suzi Gage (on breathalising and cognition test duties), John of The Dream Factory podcast on fact checking and note taking, Jim Smallman of the Tuesday Night Jaw podcast (straight edge, on the flashy imported salted caramel Monster beverages), wrestler Jimmy Havoc (drinking on behalf of Jim Smallman, the kind and giving soul he is) and Jason Reed of the Stop And Search podcast. The gang are getting deep on this one - a bunch of movie talk, the all consuming humour power of Viz, kids joke and the subtleties therein, but most importantly how to make your VERY OWN wrestling name, which leads to an exciting revelation... No spoilers here yo, just get in and listen. But most importantly - ENJOY!––––– ––––– –––––This episode's links:• STOP AND SEARCH PODCAST!• SAY WHY TO DRUGS PODCAST!• HARDCORE LISTING PODCAST!• TUESDAY NIGHT JAW PODCAST!• DREAM FACTORY PODCAST!• SCROOBIUS PIP on TWITTER!• SCROOBIUS PIP on INSTAGRAM!• SPEECH DEVELOPMENT RECORDS • DISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on FACEBOOK• DISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on INSTAGRAM• NEW LISTENERS TAKE NOTE!!! WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME to your second serving of the 9th Distraction Pieces DrunkCast! How'd you get on with that first part, mmm? All good? No double vision? How many fingers am I holding up? Okay well you seem fine - obviously looks can be deceiving so I'll take your word for it this time, but we'll see how things look after this one...SO - all is the same, same guests – Hardcore Listing homies and DrunkCast OGs Stu and Chris, the host of the Say Why To Drugs podcast Dr Suzi Gage (on breathalising and cognition test duties), John of The Dream Factory podcast on fact checking and note taking, Jim Smallman of the Tuesday Night Jaw podcast (straight edge, on the flashy imported salted caramel Monster beverages), wrestler Jimmy Havoc (drinking on behalf of Jim Smallman, the kind and giving soul he is) and Jason Reed of the Stop And Search podcast. But while the terrain is the same, the convos are very different, as we witness the birth of a new beverage (you'll find out, be patient), get through a good amount of wrestling gossip and pain tolerance threshold goodness, and a healthy amount of meandering tangents and conversational off-roads throughout. Highly enjoyable - as always, pour yourself a Scroobius Pip and get into this one, it's mad fun.––––– ––––– –––––This episode's links:• STOP AND SEARCH PODCAST!• SAY WHY TO DRUGS PODCAST!• HARDCORE LISTING PODCAST!• TUESDAY NIGHT JAW PODCAST!• DREAM FACTORY PODCAST!• SCROOBIUS PIP on TWITTER!• SCROOBIUS PIP on INSTAGRAM!• SPEECH DEVELOPMENT RECORDS • DISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on FACEBOOK• DISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on INSTAGRAM• NEW LISTENERS TAKE NOTE!!! WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME to that ever so special time of year, the time when the Distraction Pieces Podcast gets buckwild crazy and lets its hair down and acts crazy inappropriately, only to completely forget what happened the previous night... Yes indeed - it's the Distraction Pieces Xmas DrunkCast 2017! You KNOW it's gonna be a heavy one... And if you weren't around for last year's debacle - well let this be your initiation...Ladies and gentlemen, Team 3W, please get yourselves good and comfy for the drunkest of the drunk roundtables as your regular host Scroobius Pip is joined by Hardcore Listing homies and DrunkCast stallions Stu and Chris, the host of the wonderful Say Why To Drugs podcast Dr Suzi Gage (who will also be breathalising and cognitively testing the crew through the proceedings), John of The Dream Factory podcast on fact checking and note taking duties, Jim Smallman of the best wrestling podcast on the planet Tuesday Night Jaw (who is straight edge and will not be drinking), wrestler Jimmy Havoc (who will be drinking FOR Jim Smallman, bless him) and Jason Reed of the Stop And Search podcast to round out the powerful extended DrunkCast family! Oh you KNOW it's gonna go off... Let Pip's stern warning at the beginning set the tone, as you delve into the first of a handful of increasingly inebriated yammer-fests... They're doing it just for you, people. Please enjoy!––––– ––––– –––––This episode's links:• STOP AND SEARCH PODCAST!• SAY WHY TO DRUGS PODCAST!• HARDCORE LISTING PODCAST!• TUESDAY NIGHT JAW PODCAST!• DREAM FACTORY PODCAST!• SCROOBIUS PIP on TWITTER!• SCROOBIUS PIP on INSTAGRAM!• SPEECH DEVELOPMENT RECORDS • DISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on FACEBOOK• DISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on INSTAGRAM• NEW LISTENERS TAKE NOTE!!!
