Meet our friends, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton! If you love Verdict, The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show might also be in your audio wheelhouse. Politics, news analysis, and some pop culture and comedy thrown in too. Here’s a sample episode recapping four Tuesday takeaways. Give the guys a listen and then follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts: Biden Coverup Clay and Buck discuss revelations about President Joe Biden's mental and physical health. The hosts highlight the shift in media narratives, including Jake Tapper's upcoming book and Elizabeth Warren's interview on the Talk Easy podcast, where she defends her previous statements about Biden's acuity. They critique the media's portrayal of Biden during his presidency, comparing it to historical propaganda. Clay and Buck also delve into the broader implications of Biden's presidency, discussing the role of Jill Biden and the political strategies surrounding Biden's re-election campaign. David Zweig Blockbuster (@davidzweig) Interview with investigative journalist David Zweig, who discusses his new book, "An Abundance of Caution: American Schools, the Virus, and a Story of Bad Decisions." Zweig shares insights into the failures of American public policy during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly focusing on the detrimental impact of prolonged school closures. He highlights the lack of scientific evidence supporting these closures and the political pressures that influenced decisions, including the role of teachers' unions. The hosts and Zweig delve into the revisionist history surrounding the pandemic response, emphasizing the importance of demanding evidence-based policies. Zweig recounts his experiences with silent dissent among medical professionals and the challenges he faced in reporting the truth. He hopes his book will serve as a corrective to the narrative and arm readers with the knowledge to recognize and challenge misinformation in future crises. Clay and Buck also discuss the broader implications of the pandemic on public trust in institutions, with Zweig expressing his disillusionment with the legacy media and the left establishment. He shares how his worldview has been fundamentally altered by the events of the pandemic and the dishonesty he encountered. Harvard vs. Trump The legal dispute between Harvard University and the Trump administration over the withholding of billions in taxpayer dollars. The hosts critique the extensive federal funding of universities and question the necessity of such subsidies, especially given the ideological biases and discriminatory practices at institutions like Harvard. The discussion includes the ethical concerns surrounding NPR's government funding and its role as a competitor in the media landscape. Clay and Buck argue for the elimination of taxpayer subsidies to NPR, highlighting the unfair advantage it provides in the marketplace. TX Rep. Chip Roy (@RepChipRoy) Interview with Rep. Chip Roy of Texas on SCOTUS blocking Trump deportations and the Democrats traveling to El Salvador and their defense of Abrego Garcia. He criticizes the Democrats for prioritizing non-citizens over American victims of crime committed by illegal immigrants. Roy emphasizes the need for significant authority for the president to remove individuals who were wrongfully allowed into the United States. He also discusses the broader implications of the Democrats' stance on immigration and their pursuit of political power. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for October 13, 2024 is: ideate • EYE-dee-ayt • verb To ideate is to form an idea or conception of something. // Jocelyn used the education seminar's lunch hour to talk with other teachers and ideate new activities to use in the classroom. See the entry > Examples: “Well, luckily, at the same time that I was working within these industry spaces, I was also building ARRAY. It's over a decade old, it is a distribution company, we distribute films by women and filmmakers of color, we have public programming for free, for the community, all around cinema. We have a four-building campus in Echo Park where we edit and we ideate and we educate and we do all kinds of beautiful things.” — Ava DuVernay, Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso [podcast], 14 Jan. 2024 Did you know? Like idea and ideal, ideate comes from the Greek verb idein, which means “to see.” The sight-thought connection came courtesy of Plato, the Greek philosopher who based his theory of the ideal on the concept of seeing, claiming that a true philosopher can see the essential nature of things and can recognize their ideal form or state. Early uses of idea, ideal, and ideate in English were associated with Platonic philosophy; idea meant “an archetype” or “a standard of perfection,” ideal meant “existing as an archetype,” and ideate referred to forming Platonic ideas. But though ideate is tied to ancient philosophy, the word itself is a modern concoction, relatively speaking. It first appeared in English only about 400 years ago.

Enjoy this episode from another Pushkin Industries podcast, Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso. Upon taking a walk with crypto billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried, writer Michael Lewis had a sense that there might be a story here. In the intervening two years, that story has taken a series of twists and turns, resulting in Lewis' new book Going Infinite: The Rise and Fall of a New Tycoon. At the top, we walk through Bankman-Fried's Manhattan trial, the subject at the center of this winding story, and why Lewis was first interested in observing him. Then, he unpacks Bankman-Fried's belief in effective altruism, his probabilistic approach to trading, and how his Stanford law professor parents shaped his thinking. On the back-half, we discuss the ten-day period of FTX's collapse, the scene in the Bahamas as Bankman-Fried filed for bankruptcy, and why Lewis felt a kinship with Sam's parents in that moment. To close, Michael reflects on his own journalistic tendencies and how he managed to write this book in the aftermath of great personal tragedy. Yes, the writers' and actors' strikes mean a lot of reality on TV and delayed releases for movies this fall. But there are some standouts. Sam talks with Vulture's Jen Chaney and Chris Lee and learns that with shows like Lessons In Chemistry, starring Brie Larson, and films like May December, starring Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman, you could want for nothing. Sam also gets recommendations of things you might have missed this summer from Sam Fragoso, host of the Talk Easy podcast, who explains that Project Greenlight reveals all the problems with Hollywood right now and is worth a hate-watch. Sam came over a few weeks ago and we drank tea and talked about everything from how he began playing music, to how he approaches collaboration, craft, and creativity. He's deeply introspective and after studying Jungian psychology, he began reading tarot for himself and others. We spoke about how he got into typology, Myers-Briggs, and dream work and how that impacts his songwriting. He's candid about how “perfection bubbles” burst, the value of connection, and how constructive feedback given well has shaped his sound. We get into what he's learned recently about sustaining a career in in the music business, touring, maintaining a beginner's mind, processing external validation and criticism, plus his thoughts on love, nature, friendship, the music that shaped him, and more. I especially loved this one, Sam is humble, easy to talk to, and full of wisdom.
