So they are willing to step up and have a go and try different things, and it's completely different style of educationhow the world of #sustainability and #climatechange and #climateaction is really becoming at the forefront of people's mindswhy people need to work out what they can do to help make our planet a better place for everyoneSDGs' Sustainable Development goals in #smallbusinesshow #businessowners can become a part of this more easily - starting with something they think is interesting and resonatesthe wwwglobalgoals.org website and the many ideas and resources out there for businesses, for schools, for corporationsthe "start small and build on" approach to avoid being overwhelmedthe major projects Annie is involved with at wwwtake3.org where she is designing and facilitating aa young leaders programs and #ProjectBlue involving a couple of hundred students (10 to 12-year-olds) on what makes a leader all through the lens of #plasticpollution and #oceanconservation. This episode is all about the Sustainable Development Goals, with some specific questions surrounding their implementation. If you're not familiar, the Sustainable Development Goals were adopted in 2015 and consist of 17 major problems the world aims to solve by 2030. Countries are working in partnership to solve issues such as ending world hunger, establishing gender equality, taking climate action, and reducing inequality. Each of these goals has many organizations working with the indicators - or specific tasks - within each goal.During our panel discussion, we talk about motivating students to reach the SDGs in spite of their gigantic nature, as well as how to implement these ideas in our ever politicized world.GUESTSDr. Jennifer Williams, co-founder and executive director of Take Action Global, co-founder of TeachSDGs, professor at Saint Leo University in the College of Education and Graduate Education, and author of Teach Boldly.Julia Fliss, a language arts educator at Evergreen Middle School in Evergreen, CO and TeachSDGs ambassador.Nick Covington, a social studies educator at Ankeny High School in Ankeny, IO (and Creative Director at Human Restoration Project.)RESOURCESOverview of the SDGsTeachSDGsWorld’s Largest LessonTeach Boldly: Using EdTech for Social Good by Dr. Jennifer WilliamsFURTHER LISTENINGS3: E14: Listen to Students (feat. Dr. Jennifer Williams is a member of the United Nations’ Global Goals Educator Task Force, #TeachSDGs. Our students today need to be engaged in authentic experiences that connect them to real people and real problems of our world. Through the sharing of stories and with unified efforts to tackle global issues, students can begin to discover the power they each have in making a difference at local and global levels. The Climate Action Project, connecting students from 64 countries and 250 schools, provides a unique opportunity for classrooms to take ACTION on climate change and to find their role in the United Nations’ Agenda for Sustainable Development. Climate change is an ideal topic for concentration as this issue is not one that sees borders of countries or is focused on any one geographic location---this is a problem for all---which means every single person can be part of a solution. Together as teachers, through experiences such as The Climate Action Project, we can #TeachSDGs and mobilize as world educators to reach the global goals by 2030.
