Our students today need to be engaged in authentic experiences that connect them to real people and real problems of our world. Through the sharing of stories and with unified efforts to tackle global issues, students can begin to discover the power they each have in making a difference at local and global levels. The Climate Action Project, connecting students from 64 countries and 250 schools, provides a unique opportunity for classrooms to take ACTION on climate change and to find their role in the United Nations’ Agenda for Sustainable Development. Climate change is an ideal topic for concentration as this issue is not one that sees borders of countries or is focused on any one geographic location---this is a problem for all---which means every single person can be part of a solution. It was a really interesting chat and relevant both to teachers and employees looking to start speaking at conferences and running their own events. Adam started as PE Teacher in the UK before heading off for some world travels and working in International Schools in Shanghai and Saudi Arabia. Adam's main advice for teachers and others looking to speak at conferences is to build a solid online presence and start sharing content, specifically posting all your presentations on Twitter and your blog. Also all his blog posts have a ‘call to action' where he looks to get an email address, for example buy giving away an eBook or some content. Also we discussed about not being greedy up front :) Adam picked the conferences he wanted to visit as an attendee anyway, then asked to speak. Only later did he ask for expenses or a fee, sometimes on his second or third visit to the conference. I can't emphasise this enough for new speakers…. ‘Don't ask for money until you really deserve it!' Also at the event help out with everything! The organizer will love you and be MUCH more likely to work with you in the future. I hope you enjoyed the podcast and if you did please leave us an iTunes review it means a lot! You can email me at dan@eventsframe.com or get in touch with me via dantaylor.me More info about Adam is below and if you're a school looking to turbo charge the use of technology in your pE department he'd love to her from you Adam is a physical educator originally from England, but has taught in the UK, China and Saudi Arabia across all age groups. He has presented at a number of conferences around the world sharing his love of physical education and meaningful technology to educators from all subjects. When Adam is not teaching he enjoys collaborating on projects with practitioners from across the globe and sharing his knowledge, via his blog or social media. Adam is a Google Certified Educator, Google Innovator, Google Trainer and Apple Teacher. He has a passion to use his knowledge to make life easier, by working smarter, not harder. Research shows that when children and their families have the resources they need to read throughout the summer, fewer students experience a loss of skills while school is out. This week, we're talking with two experts about ways they work to keep books in the hands of their students all summer long, and the incredible results they've seen as a result of their focus on summer reading.  First, we talk with Jennifer Boren, a library media specialist in Collierville, Tennessee. Jennifer talks about her experience with the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge, the importance of representation in children's books, and some of the accomplishments of her summer readers. We also hear from a few of Jennifer's students about why they love to read! Later, we talk with Ansel Sanders, president and CEO of Public Education Partners in Greenville, South Carolina. In 2016 and 2017, PEP collaborated with Scholastic to measure the impact of their award-winning Make Summer Count initiative to eliminate summer reading loss. The results were incredibly positive: 78% of participating students maintained or increased their reading level from spring to fall. In this podcast Kelly interviews authors Rebecca Coda & Rick Jetter about their hot new book Dunk Tank. The official title of their book is: Escaping the School Leader's Dunk Tank: How to Prevail When Others Want to See you Drown. Both Rick & Rebecca are educational disruptors and forward thinkers with a passion to support ALL current & ALL future educational leaders (PK-20). Their mission and vision is simple: We must break the glass ceiling to eliminate the status quo to ensure equity for ALL students. Rebecca and Rick have both faced adversity in their careers and are willing to do whatever it takes to call out ALL the “elephants” in the educational room so that educators, political leaders, and industry innovators can leverage talent and work together to best serve kids. About the book:  Have you ever felt as if a supervisor, coworker, or even your own school board was trying to sabotage you?  No school leader is immune to the effects of discrimination, bad politics, revenge, or ego-driven coworkers. If you've ever worked in such conditions, you know that adversaries can make your job as a school leader miserable. But even if you're lucky enough to be thriving in your current role, you've probably seen leaders whose careers have been tanked by difficult and demanding circumstances. You may even wonder from time to time, "Am I next?"  In Escaping the School Leader's Dunk Tank, Rebecca Coda and Rick Jetter interviewed superintendents, principals, and other educational leaders across the nation who have faced "dunk tank" situations. Through real-life stories and by sharing insightful research, the authors (who are dunk tank survivors themselves) equip school leaders with the practical knowledge and emotional tools necessary to survive and, better yet, avoid getting "dunked."
