David Mazzei may well have the best-sounding turbocharged rotary on the planet, but how he chased down that elusive F1 V10 sound with this masterpiece of an engine is somewhat unexpected.Rotary engines are often labelled as temperamental and unreliable, but David Mazzei of Formula Mazzei believes the opposite. In his view, rotaries can be among the most reliable engines when properly understood.

In a recent episode our own Nick Wisdom spoke his mind during a "Rotor Rage" segment where he advocated for Mikado to lower their prices to fall more in line with other manufacturers. Texas area pilot Doug Darby posted a public rotor rage of his own speaking out against that segment. We decided it would be way more fun to have Doug on the show for a fun good spirited debate on the subject. So grab a drink, get comfy, and listen to a few guys "at the field" sharing their points of view on the subject. There's also all the updates on Mikados 8.2 software updates, news on the Goosky Ultra, and all the goings on in our hobby lives. As always... thanks for listening!Website:www.rotorrevolution.liveFacebook:www.facebook.com/rotorrevolutionrcpodcastEmail:questions@rotorrevolution.liveSwag Store:www.zazzle.com/rotorrevolution

In Part 2, Ian Wookey takes us inside daily flying with 450 Tactical Helicopter Squadron, sharing what it's like to operate the CH-147F Chinook in challenging environments. He talks about crew coordination, tactical missions, mountain flying, and the training and experience required to upgrade from First Officer to Aircraft Commander in Canada's heavy-lift helicopter community.
In Part 1, pilot Ian Wookey walks us through the formative years that made him a Chinook aviator - from varsity life at RMC and initial flight training on the Grob, to the intensity of the Harvard II course in Moose Jaw and the humbling challenge of helicopter phase training. Ian reflects on early on-the-job roles, an unexpected deployment to Afghanistan with a special operations aviation detachment, and how those experiences shaped his choice to fly rotary-wing aircraft. He closes by describing the nerve-wracking moment of selection for the CH-147F Chinook and what it felt like to join 450 Tactical Helicopter Squadron.

In this podcast, Thomas Domville demonstrates a new iOS feature that lets you reset VoiceOver settings back to factory defaults—useful when settings have become confusing or inconsistent. He walks through where the option lives, how to activate it, and the consequences (you'll lose all customizations).Key Points & TakeawaysPurpose: Quickly restore VoiceOver to a clean, default state when troubleshooting is too time-consuming.Where to find it: Inside Settings → Accessibility → VoiceOver.Irreversible action: Resetting wipes all VoiceOver customizations (voices, rotor options, verbosity, speech settings, etc.). There's no “undo.”When to use: After lots of experimentation or when helping someone whose device has settings “buried” or misconfigured. After the reset: You'll need to reconfigure your preferred voice and options.Step-by-Step: Reset VoiceOver Settings (iPhone)Open Settings.Navigate to Accessibility.Select VoiceOver.(If using VoiceOver: one-finger double-tap to open items, swipe right/left to move focus.)Scroll to the bottom of the VoiceOver screen.(Tip: A four-finger tap near the bottom half of the screen jumps focus near the bottom.)Choose Reset VoiceOver Settings.Confirm the reset. You'll return to factory defaults for VoiceOver. What Resets?Voices & speech (e.g., your selected voice like Samantha)Rotor configurationVerbosity & audio settingsOther VoiceOver-specific preferencesTranscriptDisclaimer: This transcript was generated by AI Note Taker – VoicePen, an AI-powered transcription app. It is not edited or formatted, and it may not accurately capture the speakers' names, voices, or content.Thomas: Hello and welcome. My name is Thomas Domville, also known as AnonyMouse. Now, this is kind of a cool new feature that I would like to introduce to you, and that is being able to reset your voiceover settings. Yes. In the previous past iOS, you were not able to specifically reset the voiceover settings. I mean, you probably have known and tried to reset different types of settings. And all they give you is just like all or nothing. It's just like, wow, I don't want to reset all my settings.I just want to reset the voiceover settings. And this might occur for one reason or another. Now, in my case, I will visit some of my clients from time to time. And I noticed that it's just really, really messed up. Or I should say, sometimes it's just easier to reset the voiceover settings than to try to figure out what they have done and what needs to be changed. So there could be a number of things. And you know as well as I do, everything is buried, right? And there could be multiple things.I need to go find, turn this off, turn this on, put this back in…

Send me a messageShipping moves 90% of global trade – and yet it's one of the hardest sectors to decarbonise. In this episode of Climate Confident, I sit down with Heikki Pöntynen, CEO of Finnish cleantech pioneer Norsepower, to explore a solution that's both elegantly simple and radically effective: modern rotor sails.Heikki explains how Norsepower has revived and re-engineered the century-old Flettner rotor to deliver real-world fuel savings of 5–25%, with some transatlantic routes targeting a staggering 50% reduction. We dig into the physics of the Magnus effect, why side winds are a ship's best friend, and how AI-driven automation ensures crews get maximum performance with minimal effort. We also discuss why retrofits dominate current adoption, the growing trend of building “rotor sail ready” vessels, and how stricter IMO regulations are shortening payback times to as little as one year. Heikki shares insights on compatibility with biofuels and electric ships, and why wind propulsion will be a common sight by 2040.This isn't about prototypes or pilot projects – these sails are already cutting CO₂ at scale, with 26,000 tonnes saved to date. If you want to understand a proven, scalable technology that can help shipping hit net zero by 2050, this conversation will change how you see the horizon.Listen now to learn how wind, engineering, and smart regulation could reshape maritime decarbonisation.Support the showPodcast supportersI'd like to sincerely thank this podcast's amazing supporters: Jerry Sweeney Andreas Werner Stephen Carroll Roger Arnold And remember you too can Support the Podcast - it is really easy and hugely important as it will enable me to continue to create more excellent Climate Confident episodes like this one.ContactIf you have any comments/suggestions or questions for the podcast - get in touch via direct message on Twitter/LinkedIn. Emma Unson Rotor took leave from her job as a math teacher in the Philippines to study physics at Johns Hopkins University in 1941. Her plans were disrupted when the Imperial Japanese Army invaded and occupied the Philippines. Unable to access her Philippine government scholarship to attend Johns Hopkins, she joined the Ordnance Development Division at the National Bureau of Standards. It was here that she did groundbreaking research on the proximity fuze, the “world's first ‘smart' weapon,” in the words of physicist Frank Belknap Baldwin, who also helped develop the technology. Exploring the Evolution of Lyric Licensing and Music Tech: Insights from DarylIn an interview with Daryl, an industry leader in lyric licensing and music tech, we dive into how the landscape of music rights and royalties is changing, and how innovative technologies like AI and video creation tools are shaping the future for artists, labels, and fans alike.Lyric licensing has evolved over the years, with companies like LyricFind paving the way for new revenue streams through services like Lyric Merch. This on-demand merchandising service allowed publishers to license song lyrics for custom merchandise. However, the challenge of enforcing rights in an increasingly fragmented marketplace of platforms like Etsy and Redbubble led to the transition of Lyric Merch into a licensing model that works with businesses like Lithographs, which makes merchandise based on literature and lyrics. As Daryl points out, while lyric merchandising faces challenges in enforcement, the broader music industry continues to grow, fuelled by streaming services and direct-to-consumer access. Today, more people are spending on music than ever before, thanks to affordable streaming subscriptions, which have replaced traditional physical formats. This shift has made it easier for independent artists to break into the market without needing a major label. The rise of AI-driven technologies, such as stem separation tools, also opens up new opportunities for karaoke and lyric synchronisation. While karaoke companies historically used re-recorded tracks to avoid paying for the original master's licensing, advancements now allow for the use of actual masters. This makes it easier to integrate lyrics into digital karaoke services. However, the publishing rights for karaoke remain a different sector, with publishers avoiding cannibalising existing revenue streams from traditional karaoke.Looking to the future, Daryl foresees continued growth for lyric licensing, particularly through the synchronisation of lyrics with video content. With more artists focusing on video as a key promotional tool, LyricFind is investing in products like Rotor to help artists create dynamic visual content and leverage the power of lyrics in videos. The advent of autonomous driving will also create more opportunities for in-car entertainment and music engagement. For independent artists and labels, the key takeaway is that while the business model has changed, the opportunities for growth are abundant. Technology and streaming services have made music more accessible, and platforms like LyricFind continue to evolve to meet the needs of modern music creators. To explore more, independent artists can visit lyricfind.com for licensing information and tools like Lyric IQ, which analyses song lyrics for trends, moods, and themes. For video creation, RotorVideos.com offers tools for generating promotional content with synchronised lyrics. The evolving role of lyric licensing shows that while the industry is changing, the possibilities for innovation and revenue growth are still vast.

In this episode, Thomas Domville demonstrates how to use Writing Tools in iOS 18.1. Writing Tools, released as part of the first set of Apple Intelligence features in iOS 18.1 is an impressive feature that allows users to rewrite text in different tones, such as friendly, professional, and concise, with an added proofread option. To use this feature, open the text you want to edit and highlight it. Within the Edit section of your Rotor, you'll find the Writing Tools option. Different tone options will appear for you to choose from. Select the desired tone, and iOS will automatically adjust the text accordingly. If you opt for the proofread option, it will check for grammatical and stylistic errors, providing suggestions for improvement. This feature makes it easier to tailor your writing for different contexts and ensure it's polished and effective.TranscriptDisclaimer: This transcript was generated by Aiko, an AI-powered transcription app. It is not edited or formatted, and it may not accurately capture the speakers' names, voices, or content.Hello and welcome. My name is Thomas Domville, also known as AnonyMouse.I'm going to be talking to you about an Apple Intelligent feature called the writing tools. Now this is one of my most favorite feature of the Apple Intelligent that Apple has to offer. Now in order to be able to use the Apple Intelligent, you must need the following iPhone criteria, which is iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or newer devices. If you have those devices, then you will earn luck. The first thing we need to do is make sure that Apple Intelligent is turned on.Simple enough to turn it on, you'll have to head over to your settings. So let's head over to settings, and let's do one finger double tap and open this. And now what we're looking for, we're looking for Apple Intelligent in Siri, so swipe to the right until you find that button. One finger double tap, open that. Now you may have heard the word beta.Well, at this time of the podcast that's being recorded, it is in beta.So Apple Intelligent is in beta at this moment. Now if you don't hear the beta, don't worry. That might mean that the beta is no longer in beta.So to make sure we are in the same place in this right area, let's go to the very top left hand corner where you have the back button. To get to there, you can either tap at the top left or use a forefinger tap on the top half of your device until you hear the back button. Now if you swipe to the right, that's where you heard the beta. Now in your case, if you don't hear the beta, have no worries, let's keep going to the right. Now we're into the Apple Intelligent section. Now if you go to the right here, a personal intelligence system integrated deeply into your iPhone apps and Siri, learn more link, use the rotor to access links. You can do that if you wish.If you want to find more information about the Apple Intelligent and all the features that has to offer, double tap that and I'll take you to the web page at Apple to talk to you about more about Apple Intelligent. But what we're looking for is the option to turn the Apple Intelligent on and that should be the next item up.If you go to the…
