After the cursor acquisition, and the integration of all of the parts into SpaceXAI, they have released 2 huge things this weekGrok 4.6 - Ties with GPT 5.6 SOL and half the price and much speed.I've had the pleasure to host Goerge Cameron from Artificial Analysis on the show today, and I asked him, what is the best models. His answer, it's a 3 factor answer, intelligence, speed and cost per task .Well, if you use their nifty “recommend a model“ tool on the homepage, you'll see that Grok 4.6 beats most other models on all of those! But, is it really that good? Models are really hard to evaluate and compare lately. It's definitely a huge step up from Grok 4.5, with 61.3 on Frontier Code (beating Sol and just after Opus 5) and #4 on Apex-agents (+10 points from previous Grok). on Artificial Analysis this model lands at #4 on intelligence, while being #5 on speed all while being half the price of the models that are above itAs far as the tech goes, this model card confirms that it no longer has the Cursor Bench leaked into it's weights and it's #1 on that benchmark! It's the same 1.5T v9 base at the same price, with Elon claiming that 4.7 is going to mog the competition in 3-4 weeks.Everyone has a harness, now everyone has a swarm of bots - My Grok Bot review (x.ai/bot)You guys know all about OpenClaw and Hermes, and Claude CoWork and Codex rebrand, and all of them are trying to nail down the same, always-on, autonomous agents that can do things for you.Hermes and OpenClaw require you to have an always on computer, mess with API keys, Claude Cowork doesn't run on the cloud and ChatGPT work starts a fresh session every time you ask a new thing.Grok Bot (again, awful name) is the first one that seems to nail all of what I want in an always-on agent ... swarm. That's right, this isn't one agent with multiple personalities (like OC, Hermes), there's a bot here for every task, and you dont' have to manage context, queues, API keys (can if you want to) and models.Oh, also ,there's no model picker, it's just Grok 4.6 deciding for ya, and it's really fast!Swarm of bots, working for you, each with their own computerI am not getting paid for this (besides being provided a free account for cursor, but I've had it for 6 months and haven't used), it's really that good, the Cursor folks did some magic there. They picked up the most important parts of personal agents, like the (ios-only) mobile app (app store)You can start a task on your mac, pick it up on your phone, get notified on your phone/mac, and the killer thing is, they are giving your bots their own computer, which can do things (especially if you're ok with logging in there to your accounts!)The kicker for me is the very very well done agent to agent communication there, which is transparent but read only to you. You can ask your bots to spin up other bots, but unlike sub-agents, they are actual bots with their own identity. You can even tag them in other chats and create group chats! There's no context to manage, they do the work for you and so far this wasn't a problem at all.On the model side, Grok 4.6 seems to be doing an excellent job with agentic long running tasks that require coding and computer use, I've just been chatting with the bots and not thinking about any of the things I used for Hermes and OpenClaw.What about Vendor Lock-in? Giving Elon data?Some of these comments our fans raised during the show are very valid, after all, not only is the world divided on Elon Musk (which makes it REALLY hard to judge the models they release just on vibes from X btw, we talk about this constantly) but also, remember that Grok 3 started going off on X and called himself Mechahitler and just recently Grok CLI was caught uploading all of your data to X servers, which was reversed very quickly.Honestly, I think there's a very very good chance that this Grok Bot interface, which is geareed toward the less technical users, folks who don't need the code-diff side pane, and don't know/care what compaction is, and just want agents to do things for them, is goign to win much of this trust back. It just works, truly, for a beta product it's really well executed by whoever worked on this!Security and key managementOne of the best parts for me with this Grok Bot, is that the connectors are the same connectors you use in Cursor! There's a LOT of them (Cursor after all has been one of the first apps to start adding AI agents) and this also means that they take the security very seriously.Every API key that you want to add, is not shown to the bot, each bot lives in an isolated environment, and for stuff like payments and log-ins, it gives you back the control of it's computer for you to complete!I also love this section in settings, which makes auto-approve work for you: you define rules with natural language that you always want the bot to ask you before... sending an email or posting on your behalf or what not.Chief of staff pattern to get startedIn case you're convinced enough to give it a try (it's free trial for 1 month, and the cheaper way to get it is via Cursor's 149$ plan and not via the Grok Ultra plan which is 249), here's a recommended pattern that works very well.Create a chief of staff bot, have it interview you about everything you are doing in your day to day, work and personal, then decide how much permissions you wanna give it, start little.Then ask your chief of staff to create bots for some of the work it can try and help you with, focus on “reduce cognitive load”.And then see the magic come to life. If you have skills or memory from other bots, you can just ... import it in.Then try setting up an automated email checker bot, and have your chief of staff surface only the most important emails you have to actually respond to.Another great pattern is setting up a bot with the last30days research skill (we covered it with Matt Van Horn) and have a research bot for every topic you want to deep dive into.Schrodinger's GrokI haven't quite named it like that, but we've covered all Grok released on the show (tracking 24 on https://thursdai.news/companies/xai excluding this week) and ... it's always very hard to judge Grok model released based on X feed vibes. It's either AI influencers who want Elon to retweet them, glazing the models, or folks who hate Elon for his political views or whatever, ignoring their (truly insane progress).This time, both the model and Grok Bot are getting very very good reviews, from folks like our own Ryan Carson, Lenny Rachitsky, Rubben Hassid and Roberto P Nickson. Not folks who are swayed lightly, but also, yours truly. I really do think there's something great here, worth trying out, especially if you've struggled to maintain your OC/Hermes and want agents to work for you 24/7. He bought his first house -- a 1901-era fixer-upper -- and has spent the past several months dealing with cat smells in a crawl space, a squirrel that chewed through wiring, a dead possum under the floorboards, and the humbling experience of learning to cut in a straight line for the first time. Good news on move-in day: the electrical had already been updated, which mattered a lot to an electrician who knew exactly what that job would have cost him. The first thing visible when you walked through the door was a dining room painted in the brightest Barbie pink either of them had ever seen. Online listing photos had made it look like a warm sunset. In person it looked like Pepto-Bismol. That was the cosmetic problem. The real problem was the smell.Cat Smells and the Crawl Space [03:04]Three confirmed cats, possibly four, had been using the dirt crawl space as a litter box for three or four years. The crawl space starts at about two feet of clearance and drops to six to eight inches near the outer walls -- full belly-crawl territory. Caleb suited up with a respirator, goggles, a painter's suit, and a child's garden rake with four metal prongs that he says will remain in a place of honor in the basement indefinitely. It goes with him before the fishing poles if there's ever a fire.He went through the crawl space with enzymatic cleaner -- but the first jug he bought was formulated for outdoor use, and it didn't make a dent on the smell. He went back to the store, found a cat-specific enzymatic formula, and ended up buying about eight small spray bottles to fill a pressurized sprayer. That worked. A dehumidifier finished the job on the residual musty smell -- now when you open the basement door, it just smells like a normal old stone basement.On enzymatic cleaners: Use a formula specifically designed for the type of odor you're dealing with. Outdoor or general-purpose formulas may not be strong enough for concentrated pet waste. Cat-specific formulas are made for exactly this situation.On crawl space odors: Garden lime thrown down on a dirt crawl space can help neutralize pH and absorb lingering smells after the source is removed.Sealing Odor Hotspots [07:02]There was a small alcove near the stairs where foam gym flooring had soaked up years of cat urine. Caleb pulled it up and needed to seal the subfloor underneath before putting anything new down.The right product for this kind of situation is a shellac-based primer like BIN -- it seals odors and dries fast. Dan didn't have any shellac on hand, but he did have an old can of oil-based polyurethane that tested out fine, and for a clear coat application it worked well. The key advantage of a clear coat over a pigmented primer in odor situations: pigment can leave microscopic paths for odor to work through. A clear film seals more completely. Caleb put new subfloor down over the top and sealed that too.Squirrel in the Ceiling [09:26]The home inspection had flagged a squirrel living above the breezeway entry. The smell coming out of that space was serious enough that Dan wasn't sure it would ever clear up. Caleb got the squirrel out, sealed the entry point, and eventually pulled down the ceiling to assess the damage -- and found something more significant than anyone expected.The squirrel had chewed through the outer jacket on two sets of wires, exposing bare copper hot, neutral, and ground conductors. There was visible charring around the wiring. The breaker had tripped on one of Dan's early walkthroughs; at the time nobody knew why. The wiring had apparently been in this condition long enough that it's surprising no fire resulted.Caleb rewired the affected circuits and closed everything up properly. Point worth keeping: if animals get into a wall or ceiling space and stay there, wiring damage is a real possibility. It's not just a smell and mess problem. If you know or suspect animals have been living in a structural space, the wiring in that area is worth checking before you close it back up.Dead Possum Under the Floor [12:54]After the squirrel situation was resolved, the entry still smelled. As the weather warmed up, it got worse. Caleb pulled up a damaged section of subfloor near the breezeway door, expecting to find the water damage he'd spotted -- and found a dead, decomposing possum that had apparently gotten in through the same entry point as the squirrel and not gotten back out.He called his best friend, who arrived with a square shovel and leather gloves. The possum got a burial in the backyard. The subfloor was treated with enzymatic cleaner, the entry point sealed, and the floor rebuilt.Dan's contribution to the discovery call: asking whether Caleb was sure it was dead, and suggesting he try touching its eye to confirm. Caleb reported there was no eye. Dan agreed that was probably a reliable indicator.First Time Painting [15:22]Caleb had essentially never painted before -- Dan had handed him a brush with no paint on it as a kid and sent him into another room. This house was his real introduction.The biggest struggle was cutting in at the ceiling line without tape. He and his brother Andrew started by eye on the first room and the difference in their speed was immediate and obvious -- Andrew was moving at several times Caleb's pace, and Caleb's edges were rough. The key things Caleb took away from the experience:A good brush matters more than most people realize going in. People often reach for tiny brushes thinking more control, but a quality full-size brush is easier to work with, not harder. Practice builds speed and confidence faster than expected -- Andrew went from nervous to confident within a month of his first exterior painting summer. And the work itself is harder than it looks when someone skilled does it in front of you.Andrew ended up painting most of the house -- the kitchen, dining room, living room, and upstairs. Caleb handled a fair amount of the cutting in and ceiling work.Color Choices and Coverage [19:27]Caleb's fiancée Melanie handled all the interior color selections, which Caleb describes as a great decision. Dan had expected conservative colors based on Caleb's personality and was surprised to get a list of deep, saturated choices -- a near-teal green, dark forest tones, rich colors throughout. His instinct was that deep colors would require multiple coats to cover the lighter existing walls.They used RepcoLite Optima, and the coverage surprised Dan enough that he brought it up on air. Deep colors don't naturally hide better just because they have more pigment -- the colorant system and the base paint matter. Optima's combination of formula and colorant system delivered coverage close to what you'd hope for after one coat, and two coats finished the job cleanly.The favorite room is the living room, painted in Yorktown Green -- a deep blue-green Benjamin Moore color that reads almost like a rich teal. They had originally planned a different color and switched at the last minute. It turned out to be everyone's favorite.One Coat vs. Two [23:06]Even when one coat coverage looks surprisingly good -- and in this case it did -- two coats is always the right call. The second coat evens out color uniformity, improves sheen consistency, eliminates lap marks and differences between brushed and rolled areas, and builds the film thickness the paint was designed to have. Durability depends on having enough coating on the surface.Ceiling Paint Lesson [23:47]Caleb chose a creamy, slightly warm off-white for the ceilings rather than straight white. Dan went with bright white on his own ceiling at home and regrets it -- it reads as plasticky and a little harsh compared to a softer white. The warmer ceiling tone makes the rooms feel finished rather than clinical. Dan says he's living with it but won't make that choice again.Painting angled ceilings with a hip roof is harder than flat ceilings. The angles create back strain and make it difficult to track where you've been. On flat ceilings, working in a consistent grid pattern and watching for the shine of wet paint to see where you've covered is the practical method.Vanity Project and Ebonizing [25:50]Caleb is in the store today to pick up primer for a bathroom vanity he's painting. Dr Tarantino is a breast medical oncologist and advanced fellow at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts.In our exclusive interview, Dr Tarantino discussed practice-informing data regarding antibody-drug conjugates in breast cancer that were presented at the 2026 ASCO Annual Meeting, including the use of fam-trastuzumab deruxtecan-nxki (T-DXd; Enhertu) plus pertuzumab (Perjeta) for first-line treatment of HER2-positive breast cancer based on findings from the phase 3 DESTINY-Breast09 trial (NCT04784715); updated safety data from the phase 3 DESTINY-Breast05 trial (NCT04622319) that indicated that T-DXd–associated interstitial lung disease is reversible with steroids, although radiation pneumonitis is non-reversible; and the phase 3 OPTIMA trial (ISRCTN42400492) results, which suggested that the PAM50 signature can identify patients who may not need chemotherapy, potentially sparing them from unnecessary treatment.

Results from the OPTIMA trial suggest that people with early-stage hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer that seems to have a high risk of recurrence based on clinical features — like a high number of positive lymph nodes — may be able to safely skip chemotherapy if they have a low Prosigna risk of recurrence score. The findings were presented at the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting. Iain MacPherson, professor of breast oncology at the University of Glasgow, was chief investigator of the study. There's a view businesses have been taken by surprise by surging gas prices. Energy management company Optima and Business NZ's joint survey reveals gas prices have risen by more than 100% on average in the past five years. Nearly half report it's led to them reducing operations, increased prices, or cutting staff. Business NZ Energy Council Executive Director Tina Schirr told Mike Hosking they didn't know how quickly supply would dwindle. She says they knew there'd be moderate reduction over the next few years, but didn't think it'd be this steep over the last two years. If there ever was an episode that epitomizes the concept of the "first and only open source film and digital photography podcast" it is this episode!  We started off with the idea of devoting a large part of it to AGFA, makers of Rodinal, Karat film, and a large number of really cool cameras from the mid 20th century.  From the moment we got started, we immediately got off topic and wouldn't come back to AGA until an hour into the recording.  Never fret, but in the shortened time we covered Germany's version of Kodak, we covered a lot of ground. Joining Anthony, Paul, Stephen, Theo, and Mike are returning callers A.J. Gentile, Fernando Villava from Germany, Mike Litwin, Pat Casey, Will Pinkham, and first time callers David Palumbo and Zack Lothamer. From the moment the show got started, we feel down the Kodak Instamatic (type 126) wormhole, discussing a large number of Instamatic cameras, what kinds of films can be used in 126 cameras today, the Fakmatic 3D printed adapter, and other oddball cameras.  We meander around, somehow winding up on the Ricoh GXR Interchangeable module digital camera, and Anthony's love for Kodak 5220XT Film. When we finally get into the world of AGFA, we discuss some of the group's favorite films like AGFA Professional Pan 25, APX25, HDC 100, Scala, and AGFA's original AGFAColor film from the 1930s.  Eventually, we get into AGFA GAS with some really cool cameras like the Parat and Optima Parat half frame cameras, the cool twin lens Flexilette and Optima Reflex, the large orange button AGFAs like the Optima 1035 and 1535, the Optima Electronic Flash, Ambi Silette, and the Selectaflex SLR.  By far, the most time is dedicated to the postwar AGFA Karat rangefinder with the split image viewfinder, which Mike says is the best rangefinder camera for people with terrible vision. Sprinkled throughout the show we answer questions about how long expired film can be used when refrigerated, what is a recommendation for a good entry into 6x9 cameras, and some warnings about not trying to repair the Zeiss-Ikon Contaflex SLR.
