EPISODE 66 SYNOPSIS Straw Bangers & the Art of the Telephonic Poo Welcome to Episode 58 of The Hate Napkin! Um, excuse me, this is actually Episode 66. No, it's not. It's a recovery episode. We lost 58, so we're redoing it. Um, Episode 58 is already posted actually. It's titled “Slim Jims for Everyone!” Well, I'll be damned. Anyway, special guest, Carla from Burnt Korn, Alabama, leads off the show: “I can't stand it when people call me when they're taking a crap.” The THN Boys are all about the art of the telephonic poo. As co-host Arik explains, the real secret is finding a subject that the person on the other line will gab endlessly about. They'll be so fixated on their own words that they won't even notice the kerplunk sounds on the other end of the line. “The problem is when you accidentally emit a cacophonous fart—which normally would be okay, but the bathroom echo effect is a dead giveaway you're on the pot.” Sound engineer Pauly from Bali establishes basic Crapper Phone Etiquette. Text messages on the john are fine. Voice calls are a no, however. FaceTime calls should lead to capital punishment. Arik shares a brilliant hate solution via his Uber Eats driver friend, Harold: Yeah, we all can't stand it when the McDonald's shake machine breaks down. In fact, we've come to expect it. But what's really the pits is that fast food places haven't created a system to communicate this fact to you in advance: “Do we really need to wait in line in our car for a half-hour simply to be told that you're out of shakes or fries or buns of whatever. All of these places have flagpoles—how about running ‘we're out of this item' flags up the pole to notify customers in advance?” Genius! On a related note, Carla recently ordered a meal from Arby's via DoorDash. The delivery driver warned her not to drink the shake due to the condition of the lid—which, she noticed, had been crushed somehow. The driver shared that the fast food worker even admitted he had stepped on the lid, but refused to replace it with a new one. Arby's: R.B.: “Real Bad” service. Keeping the service industry ball a bouncin', Arik recently encountered a waiter who was relieved to get his biggest restaurant pet peeve off his chest: “I can't stand it when customers bang straws on the table to take them out of the paper wrapper! Just rip the paper! Stop banging straws! It makes me want to kill babies!” Pauly concludes our foody hate with a Southeast Asia spiel on Minute Maid Teppy, Coca-Cola's latest attempt to ruin a cottage industry. All across Vietnam, one can find kiosks with affordable fresh-squeezed orange juice. Yet who needs a fresh, affordable drink when one can have expensive, godawful high fructose corn syrup dribbled atop orange pulp! And, not hard to believe, Coca-Cola sets up their own stands of tepid Teppy right next to the old ladies trying eke out a fresh-squeezed living. Finally, Carla's pussy matches the drapes! Plus, what does she keep in her drawers! Tune in to find out more! This is more a satirical essay than an actual short story, but it makes me smile. The first telephone was demonstrated at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition in 1876. By 1880, many wealthier families were using the new communication device regularly and one of the 19th century’s best known authors and satirists observed some anecdotal differences in the way men and women communicate.Samuel Clemens better known as Mark Twain is one of the most famous American authors of all time. This story was penned 4 years after his success with Tom Sawyer and about 5 years before he completed Huckleberry Finn. In 1884 he formed his own publishing company which went on to posthumously publish the best-selling memoirs of President Ulysses S. Grant.

Though adult mental health patients, substance abusers and children and adolescents may face different behavioral health issues, there's a common reason behind their frequent hospital and ER visits, explains Jay Hale, LPC, CEAP, director of quality improvement and clinical operations at Carolina Behavioral Health Alliance. Hale's organization uses a set of telephonic case management protocols to reduce avoidable inpatient and ER use by these populations. He describes some of the barriers telephonic case managers might face during member outreach, red flags that indicate a physician visit is warranted, and the role of primary care providers in the member's care continuum. Hale will present during a March 7, 2012 webinar, Telephonic Case Management: Protocols for Behavioral Healthcare Patients, during which he will share the case management protocol developed by his organization, including using scripts and surveys to assess patients' engagement in the treatment process and identify patients at-risk.
The daily engagement of Medicaid beneficiaries in self-care health monitoring programs can help healthcare organizations avoid many of the challenges inherent in working with this frequently underserved population, explains Pharos Innovations CEO Dr. Randall Williams. Once participants are identified, they are very receptive to the daily contact, which has resulted in extremely high program engagement rates. Dr. Williams, along with Dr. Thomas Kline, medical director, Iowa Medicaid Enterprise, and Katherine Scher, R.N., C.C.M., program manager for the Center for Clinical Care Design at Henry Ford Health System, examined the factors that can impact engagement and explain how to continually strive to improve engagement rates during Improving Patient Engagement in Telephonic and Online Health Improvement Programs for Lasting Behavior Change.
Those of you who can think as far back as the start of Season 3 might remember that we often promised to call people and never ever got around to it, mostly because it took about a dozen episodes for Resonance to get around to installing the phone. We make up for that today by using our Skype phone on no less than four occasions! To varying degrees of success, as you'll find out. What else can we reveal without spoilers? Well, contrary to our hastily penned trailer on Eurogamer there aren't any reviews this week -- blame the fight we had about Riff last week and not wanting to turn Simon's last episode of the season into another row. But to compensate the news section contains actual news, an OLL regular returns to debut new material, Derek's still Derek and Craig 'The Rage' McClelland continues to hurt. The show is presented almost completely unedited* so you'll please forgive the minor errors. Post production could have fixed them all, e.g. by highlighting the whole One Listener Left section and pressing delete, but we're all about honesty. Also laziness. We do forget to call someone as Simon mentions at the end of the show but perhaps we'll remedy that next week.By we I mean Ann and Ste, because Simon's off on holiday now. He'll be back for the OLL wrap party which is tentatively scheduled for the 26th of April in London somewhere (we're seeking a venue, so write in if you can help with that). Ann and Ste will return next Tuesday for the OLL Season 3 Finale with a very special copresenter. Please join us then.Oh, music: It's quite a musical episode. A Lemmings remix by a friend of a listener, a track from ex-OLL-standards Colon Openbracket, a quick blast of a new CFCF remix (vs Sally Shapiro) and a Mega Man II remix by Johan Agebjorn. Hey! We have a last.fm group! That's new. Also, please join our Facebook Group and help us push on to the 500 mark by clicking here, or identify yourself as a fan to others on that same site by clicking here. Our MySpace is here -- clicking around our friends list there is a good way to find out about the bands on the show. The OLL forum is here and if you want to email us with letters or things to play you can do so at the address in the show: team at one life left.com. *Of course it doesn't have the half hour preamble in which we checked the mics, Ann made us drinks and Simon called Simon's sister and talked about celebrity conquests. For that sort of thing you'll have to listen live. Sorry!
Today's podcast is another of my own productions. Today, I give the general public a taste of what we clinicians have to handle when we have are forced to have telephone reviews by managed care company employees.
Both science and human nature played a part in the success of Healthways' telephonic care support for diabetes patients, explains John Harris, senior vice president of the Health Support Division of Healthways. Even though the program is from Healthways' care management side, he believes that the same results would apply to a coaching effort, since any time a human intervenes with another human, the chances of success go up considerably. According to John, an individual's learning style and risk levels are also factors in determining whether a Web-based or telephonic coaching system would be most effective. John also explains how advances in predictive modeling allow healthcare organizations to find candidates earlier and provide more compelling evidence of the need for a coaching intervention. Harris and Sean Slovenski, president and CEO, Hummingbird Coaching Services, described how to effectively capture and integrate multiple data sources to identify potential clients for health coaching and how to effectively use that information to achieve health coaching success during a June 13, 2007 audio conference, Building a Health Management IT Platform for Health Coaching.
Dr. Dennis Richling, medical director, vice president for CorSolutions, a Matria Company, explains why telephonic health coaching is becoming more relevant with the growth of consumer-directed healthcare plans and patient self-management. Colleen Perkins, health strategies consultant with Mayo Clinic Health Management Resources, and Dr. Richling presented at an April 5, 2006 audio conference, Telephonic Health Coaching: How It Can Improve Your Population Health Management Programs.
Overcoming barriers to outreach is a crucial component of Health Management Corporation's telephonic Baby Benefits program says, Tom Smith, the organization's director of medical care management.
